Men at work

Nintendo apparently has some big news planned for today, as well as plenty of maintenance down-time which will impact various services and games.

Online play and rankings will be down today from 21:00 until 02:00 (UK time) tomorrow. During roughly the same window, the online elements of the following games will be impacted:

  • Super Mario Maker (From (approx.) Monday, 7 December 2015 21:00 to Monday, 7 December 2015 22:30)
  • Mario Kart 8 (From (approx.) Monday, 7 December 2015 21:00 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 02:00)
  • Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (From (approx.) Monday, 7 December 2015 22:00 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 02:00)
  • Super Smash Bros. for 3DS (From (approx.) Monday, 7 December 2015 22:00 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 02:00)
  • Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (From (approx.) Monday, 7 December 2015 23:30 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 02:00)
  • Devil's Third (From (approx.) Tuesday, 8 December 2015 00:00 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 03:00)
  • Nintendo Badge Arcade (From (approx.) Tuesday, 8 December 2015 01:00 to Tuesday, 8 December 2015 02:00)

For our US readers, simply subtract 5 hours from those times if you're on the East Coast or 8 if you're on the West Coast.

That's plenty of work happening at once, which could hint at big changes behind the scenes. Could this be related to the new Nintendo Account, which recently opened for registration in Japan? Or is it more likely to simply be routine maintenance related to keeping these games ticking over? Let us know what you think by posting a comment.
