Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Has Generated Nearly $1 Billion In Revenue After Five Years

thinkhector

This is actually terrible news. These games would actually be some of Nintendo's most profitable games. I'm glad it appears that Nintendo has already abandoned the idea of releasing more mobile games. This with the news that PlayStation makes more profit on DLC/microtransactions then from from straight game sales is a disturbing trend. Microtransactions do not make a game more enjoyable. In fact, just the opposite.

Re: This Just-Released Switch Game Might Have Accidentally Predicted The Pandemic

@UglyCasanova There has never been a full investigation into the lab leak theory. Right now, there is just a working set of facts that seem to point in the direction of the virus being man made. However, with science you have to put your theory to the test and find out if it's correct. Who doesn't want this investigation to take place? Oh, I don't know, maybe the companies and people fronting the money to get rich off the scheme.

Re: Metroid Prime Dev Confirms That Nintendo Blocked The Addition Of Super Metroid To The Game

thinkhector

As a person that has worked 100 hour weeks in a different industry. This is only possible if you don't have a day off. All you have to do is pass a law that would require companies to give a person a day. (It's impossible, to work 100 hours in just 6 days.) These programmers might not even be getting paid more because they are on salary most likely.
Here is the dark truth about the gaming world. Most of gamers have large backlogs of unplayed games. If something like Metroid Prime 4 takes an extra 6 months to a year to make so people can have a day off it won't effect gamers. There are actually too many great to good games being released. We can always go back to old games we beat to try and 100% them or spend more time in multiplayer games. One dev even said he was wondering why they add so much stuff to there games when they have stats that show the average gamer (about 80%) only experience 25% of the content. That is not finishing, not completing all challenges, or not taking on side quests or talking DLC content. Plus there are infinite games like Tetris, Splatoon, Pinball, Killer Queen Black, Among Us, and First Person Online Shooters, etc.
You see wonderful games that take 3 to 5 years to make like StarDew Valley and messed up releases like Cyber Punk and Grand Theft Auto Trilogy that were pushed out too quickly. Are issues is not that we have enough games to play, right now it's that we have too many and this industry isn't serving anyone's real world needs right now.
We have gamers that overwhelmed with content to play and programmers that overwhelmed creating content. We need stop this, and respect that the game and, perhaps more important, the programmer are full human beings that also like to spend time away from just gaming. We are losing touch with our humanity in order to push out and consume more products at a pace that is not benefiting anyone involved in the community.

Re: Xbox Studio Rare "Immensely Pleased" About Banjo-Kazooie's Arrival On Switch

thinkhector

@Browny I'm not so sure. I always say that there are now two definitive versions of every game: the original and the best remake. I'll use Sonic as an example. It was remade with 60 frames per second and widescreen support. However, good these changer are there a few things the irk me about it. The first boss fight was changed so you couldn't kill him as quickly. When Sonic use to "look up" the move the camera would pan instantaneously, now it's virtually useless because there is a two second delay. Also, I actually prefer the 4:3 aspect ratio for the game! But I like some of the enhancement of the new one, like the added spin dash, and bonus characters to play with. That's why there really is no "best version" of the game.
One last example, Resident Evil. No matter how many times you remake, some people are going to miss the unintentionally funny dialog and silly voice acting.

Re: The Longing

thinkhector

@1ofUs Your comment is funny because you can speed run this game! Playing the game speeds up the ending significantly. However, you still have to do boring p, tedious tasks to make things faster so not really a great spectator game.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Alternative Game Awards 2021

thinkhector

@nessisonett I have tons of AAA games that I haven't beaten. I played the Longing all the through and was tempted to play it again right away to get a different ending. The game is pretty much "pandemic lock-down" the game. The ending takes 400 days to reach, but if you do things in game you can speed up time significantly. The reason I didn't play it again is because during the ending the developer says it discourageous you from playing again as this was meant to be a one-time experience.

Re: Feature: "The eShop Is Just Way Too Slow" - Deku Deals Creator On Nintendo's Switch Storefront

thinkhector

Pro Tip: he best way to browse the Nintendo eShop is by NOT using the main page. Instead, go to "search" then go all the way down and select "other search filters." This takes you to a secondary home page that is MUCH faster to browse the opening home page.

P.S. Deku Deals still doesn't show Publisher discounts the are the deepest discounts on the eShop. For example, a game might be on sale for 35% off on Deku Deals but on the eShop the Publisher will offer a 90% discount to those who own otherr games by said Publisher. Plus 2-1 for one deals and bundles seemed to get missed by Deku Deals.

Re: Video: Check Out This Side-By-Side Comparison Of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City On Switch And PS Vita

thinkhector

@icomma I didn't even know there were already Android versions of these games. The decision by RockStar not to use these ports for the Switch version is downright baffling then since the Switch has a processor that's easily compatible to Android games in comparison to other home consoles. There are even hacks showing Android directly running on the Switch. The Switch version should have been given a different treatment from the PS5 and Xbox versions and developed by a different team.

Re: The Switch N64 Controller Doesn't Play Nice With Everything, For Now

thinkhector

@marandahir Yeah, that N64 controller was pretty innovative for its time, and the GameCube controller was really different too. These controllers were also very flawed, even during their times. The N64 had an almost useless D-Pad that you needed a third hand to use. The GameCube controller only has 3 should buttons and also an almost useless D-Pad. But I will get as too why they still might be better to use even today.
It comes down to in-game button prompts. And the N64 and GameCube had a lot of them. I often come back to a game and forget what buttons do what. Those GameCube buttons are so easy to remember because they are all shaped differently. In let's say NFL Street I know easily which button to push to hit the right reciever. When I go to the PlayStation version, I'm !Ike "which button is triangle, which button is square." I mean come on now all the buttons are circles. That's kinds why touch screens opened up video games to more people. Wanna throw the ball to to the guy? Ummm...just touch the guy you want to throw it to, easy.

Re: Watch: Modern Vintage Gamer Shares An In-Depth Look At The Pros And Cons Of Nintendo's N64 Emulation

thinkhector

@rosscjr We could have fog? These games weren't ever suppose to have fog in the first place. It was a limitation of the N64 hardware. I get it tonigh, it's jarring to some people because it's not how they remembered the game. It's like Europeans and MegaMan at 50hz instead of 60hz. They remember the games music differently because it was played slowed due to limits on their television standards back then. It wasn't the way the music was suppose to sound though.
I would say this, objectively, the games look way better without the fog. Subjectively some people just want to play the games unaltered as they remembered them. That's why there is never a "definitive version" of any game. There are two: the original and the latest enhanced version.

Re: The Switch N64 Controller Doesn't Play Nice With Everything, For Now

thinkhector

@Jokerwolf I use to disagree with the Roger Ebert that games were not art, now I kinda agree with him. I mean it's right in the title want these things are--these are games. Would you call Chess an art? How about Monopoly or Candy Land? Battleship or Connect Four? They are just games.
I'll go a little further in why games can't be art. For example, it takes no effort to finish viewing a film or to look at sculptures or paintings Most people will get the full experience that the art provides . But what about games? How often do we really finish them? A triple AAA developer once said that their statistics showed that only 20% of gamers experienced the entire amount of content they put into it. You can't say that about any other art.

Re: HBO's '8-Bit Christmas' Is Giving The NES Power Glove Another Shot At Movie Glory

thinkhector

@BAN It's not my opinion that the United States government is under corporate capture. There was a multi-year Harvard study that looked at laws passed by Congress. If a law was supported by a majority of rich people the law passed 85% of the time. If a law was supported by the majority of people making under $50,000 a year, it passed less than 10 percent of the time. The Harvard Study concluded that the United States less resembled a functional Republc but looked exactly like an Oligarchy in practice.

The book "Evil Geniuses," released in 2021 so very recent, details the ways the government was captured by business groups and leaders. It doesn't mention the Harvard Study but the plan to turn the United States into an Oligarchy wasnt actually a secret. It was a plan hatched right in the open. And everyone missed it anyways.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 6700 Third-Party Games

thinkhector

Really? A lot of shovel wear and crap? I don't agree with these sentiments at all! In fact, quite the opposite. I think game development is so mature right now that every game shows some level of moderate understanding of what makes a game fun. Sort of the same way that films nowadays will all have good CGI, a decent score, and decent to great acting.

I'll give you a couple of examples of games that would seem like shovel ware. I bought a game Ding Dong XL on the eShop for 10 cents (not a typo) and I put 50 hours into it. I have a game Mini-Trains that was given away for free, and I played it and was surprised by how good of an action-puzzle game it was. I have Stencil Art game that I would never have ever looked at in a million years. I got it as part of a promotion. I couldn't put it down it was so relaxing and fun to use. Then there was Windmill Kings, a defense game, a genre I hate usually. I played that game for two days straight. Also incidentally, Windmill Kings is probably THEY second hardest game to complete. The difficulty ramps up and up and up as you go. It will give Jump King a run for its money.
The hardest game on the eShop though is probably High Noon Revolver, the game cannot be beaten. I mean that literally. The game suffers from a serious bug that prevents anyone from getting past the third level. It's probably not well known because getting to third level is EXTREMELY HARD LOL. I am not kidding that game is no joke with just two levels to get thru. That's my rant on the subject.

Re: Best Tabletop Mode Games For Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

Is there any game that can't be played in tabletop mode? I think the aspect of having a symbol for Tate, or vertical mode, is of way more importance in the eShop and yet you can't search for games this way. Nintendo is dropping the ball here because this is an easy fix. This is a growing sector of games we are talking about without any recourse to find them easily. You really have to know what you are looking for to find it. Every Hamster produced game can utilize Tate mode. Capcom arcade collection has a large amount of Tate mode games. The FX3 Pinball app all use Tate mode. Then there are obscure titles like Downwell, Gunbarich, Groove Coaster, Disney Tsum Tsum Festival, Word Crush, and Sticky Monsters.

Anyways, as far as table-topp games are concerned, i usually use it with games with unique control schemes. I like Super Mario Galaxy here with aiming controls. Lanota is interesting because it can only be played un-Docked. Bit Trip Beat with its motion controls. Resident Evil Revelations which lets you "pump" a split Joy-Con to reload your shotgun. Chess games are nice this way too.

A second category of games I play in table-top mode are old school games. NES games, Sega Genesis Games and N64 games feel really cool playing in table-top mode but using an 8bit-Do controller instead. That Sin & Punishment cramps your hands playing with Joy-Cons. (Gave me 3DS flashbacks.)

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Has Over 6700 Third-Party Games

thinkhector

@Pat_trick The problem with Deku Deals is that it doesn't show all of the deals, especially the one at the very low end of the spectrum. Some publishers offer discounts on games if you already own one and that doesn't show up on Deku Deals. There are still games below the $1.99 and once in awhile even free. Some of my most played game have been in this range including games like Tharsis, Windmill Kings, Ding Dong XL, and Mini-Trains, and Robonaughts. These are games I would have never even played if not for the deep discount that made the risk almost non-existent.

Re: Switch Online Surpasses 32 Million Subs, Nintendo Says It Will Continue To "Improve And Expand" Expansion Pack Tier

thinkhector

@NinChocolate Yeah I agree. To me it's a no brainer to get the Expansion Pack year one. As long as you already a Nintendo Online subscriber, you will not be paying $50 dollars for the service since it's prorated. For example, my cost was just $35. However, unless we get a free game or two, like Tetris 99, or some other DLC, I won't be getting again next year.

Re: Review: Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cloud Version - A Disastrous Way To Play A Great Game

thinkhector

@Friendly I didn't experience this problem when playing the trial. The only problem was an inconsistent frame rate that improved as I played along, it wasn't great but was fine. I died a lot and respawned quickly. The game is playable and looks good most of the time. For comparison, I also have a subscription to Microsoft Game Pass Cloud version on an Android tablet. That service is atrocious. The lag makes every game unplayable.

Re: Rumour: Switch Online Datamine Uncovers Plans For "At Least" 38 N64 Games And 52 Sega Genesis Titles

thinkhector

@Xiovanni The N64 games look fantastic! Don't buy into all the nitpicking. The removal of the fog and the higher resolution makes 99.99% of the entire game look better. Input lag is a complete non-issue, it's not noticeable and doesn't effect game play AT ALL. And that's the important part of testing for input lag.
Also the cost isn't $50 if you already have the Online Subscription. It's pro-rated so I only paid $35 for the year. (It shows you at checkout what you will actually pay.)
The real question is for the second year. Will we be getting a few games like Tetris 99 or more DLC? That's where the service will get me to pay $50 or not...next year!

Re: Nintendo Switch Online's N64 Games Need Some Work

thinkhector

@Spiders Yeah, this "fog" issue is ridiculous. The games look much better without the fog, and it makes one tiny moment in Ocarina of Time not as atmospheric. What they don't mention is that Ocarina of Time looks 99.9% better without the fog for the rest of the game. Also the entire game is running at a higher resolution.
And there isn't an "input lag" problem either. Is there some input lag? Yes. Is it minimal to the point of the being non-existent? Also, yes. The point of measuring input lag is to figure out if it's effecting game play and it this case it does not. (Even original consoles with wired controllers had input lag. Only NOW have emulators been able to eliminate it.)

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price, Games And Features

thinkhector

@JHDK Mario Tennis was the main reason I wanted the expansion pack! Still a great game. All of the N64 games look fantastic with their higher resolution. And the Genesis games don't have any input lag like the Classic Collection. Now the real question will the service be getting any Tetris 99 type games in the future?

Re: Switch Is Getting A Brand New Peppa Pig Game This Autumn

thinkhector

@RupeeClock You must not peruse the the underlayers of the Nintendo eShop much. One of my most played games was only 9 cents: Ding Dong XL. I have other games that were free. NOT free to play, I mean outright free. There are about 3 publishers on Switch that make a good living offering super cheap games and just outright giving away game to customers as promotions. Baltaro and Quibic games are two standouts in the ultra cheap field. Surprisingly most of the games are actually pretty good. Drageous is another publisher like those just one step down in terms of quality and amount of content.

Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?

thinkhector

@ChromaticDracula Sonic 2 is also being released as part of another collection coming to Switch: Sonic Origins. Notably this will include Sonic 3 for the first time. As for “definitive version,” I think we need to look past that. Sonic 2 Ages and the Christian Whitehead version are both the way to go. The Whitehead version made a couple of mistakes: widescreen only mode. This is egregious because it’s for 4:3 on iPad! So it does exist! And should have been a toggle on-off feature. The second mistake is a very slow look-up, look-down feature. It happens instantly on the original and is a 2 second delay on the enhanced version making it almost unusable. Then why is it still must play? Whitehead added a whole new level and boss fight. Plus added new areas only accessible to Knuckles. (Whitehead also made the first boss fight boring by making the fight longer but that’s another issue. So yeah, I think from this point on games will have two definitive versions: The best original mode and the best enhanced mode. See Resident Evil series for good examples of these: hilarious dialog in originals but better graphics in enhanced. No definitive version.

Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?

thinkhector

@RandomDave Man I tried playing Game Pass on an Android tablet. The cloud versions are terrible! The input lag is the worst I have ever seen for a gaming service. The resolution drops constantly. Download play via Xbox is probably the only way to really play Game Pass. If you can download on PC, then that way too. The funny thing is that the cloud games on Switch played much better then this. Go figure?

Re: Poll: N64 And Sega Genesis Nintendo Switch Online Games Launch Today - Which Will You Play First?

thinkhector

@Bentendo1609 Yeah, I was going to mention the enhanced resolution for N64 games that no one else seems to be talking about. The Mario64 game included in the expansion pack is also different from the 3D All Stars version. The online version is the American version while the AllStars Mario64 copy was the Japanese rom. It’s unclear where the Genesis emulation comes from: Are these from the Classics Collection (bad emulation) or from Genesis-Mini (good emulation)?
