@steventonysmith Microsoft/Rare games are already on the service, so it's actually gone from unlikely to very likely that Golden Eye will be released. In fact, it's all but been confirmed that Microsoft has a finished remake of Golden Eye, meaning they have already re-aquired the license. The game has only been put on hold, like Advanced Wars, because of the real life conflict between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States which supplies them arms.
@mrjingles75 Okay, so from what I understand about aspect ratios, what Capcom is doing is a tradeoff. In order to make the games playable full screen, they need to be altered from their original aspect ratio. Meaning that the scan lines are merely decorative, and there is no way around this.
Here is some evidence to back up my claims. Arcade Archive game screen size csn be fully adjusted, the scan lines are artificial. Nintendo Switch Online presents games in full screen. The scan lines are artificial. Konami DOES NOT allow games to display in full screen on their retro collections. The games allow for real scan lines to be produced. I don't think there is any around this, but I do prefer being able to play the games full screen without scan lines. Watch, Konami will do the same thing with the Cowabunga Collection. No full screen option, but genuine scan lines options.
@HeadPirate If a Game is on Game Pass a month after release someone can purchase a game at a discount. It's part of the service. So why wouldn't you delay your purchase? You already have access to the game. This 1 million in sales is fo the first week of availability.
@Nalverus Because of all the great games that keep coming out? If you played a game on Game Pass and another game comes out that you really want but is not on Game Pass...well WHY not buy that game instead? Hmmm?
I don't have too many favorite screenshots. I have more affinity for some of the videos I've captured though. I have a video of me coming in first place in Mario 35 with just 1 second left on the clock. I also have another video that I watched 10 times from Mario Kart 8. I was in first place when I cross the finish line and I couldn't figure out why I was ranked second! Then I noticed a quick shadow passing near my racer. Someone had flown over me, but wasn't caught on camera.
I once overheated the Nintendo Switch. But it really isn't an issue, the system itself was aware of the problem and shut itself off automatically. So, there is some built safety features to deal with over heating.
I'm sure different reviewers take note of different things, but I have to call out something. TMNT Shreddar's Revenge is ALSO only about 2 hours long. Yet, that wasn't a negative attributed to that game. Maybe instead of game length being a negative or positive, you should just list it somewhere. Since it's a bit inconsistent in the reviews.
@Thaliard Yeah, but that takes time. Word of mouth takes time. This is just the first weeks sales ONLY. I mean subscription models are, everyone has a different version of it. So we shall see if it's just a fad, or the future, or just another part of the whole. I don't think more options is really an issue.
@jimmyvalentime Yesh, but l like I said: "THIS ISN'T A BUDGET TITLE!" That's the problem. The games should be full screen. Period. Stop. All of the NES games on Virtual Console Online are full screen. This is an issue that Knoami keeps getting away with. I overlooked it in their other collection because they regularly go on sale for $5. I'm not paying $40 for this. They need to fix it.
@HeadPirate Yeah, so people with Game Pass might one month from now buy the game at a discount. That has nothing to do with sales that happened this week. If you are purchasing games that are appearing on Game Pass the first week, you should just cancel your subscription.
@IronMan30 Why would someone who has Game Pass purchase the game? They obviously lost sales (not profit thought since they still get paid by Microsoft.)
I really wish Konami would figure out how to make their games full screen. That's pretty disappointing that even Turtles the Arcade game isn't full screen. Hamster with their Arcade Archives let's you adjust the screen size however you want. This should be standard. There asking $40 for this? I could overlook before because they were budget releases, but you have to do better at that price point.
Mario Kart DS was the best single player Mario Kart game ever because of Mission Mode. Some of those Missions were very challenging and gave a lot of life to the game.
@BTB20 It was #1 and now it's #4. My point being is that it's listed way above Mario Strikers on Nintendo's eShop, but it will never make a list like this. (Granted I am looking at the US list and Strikers is more likely popular in the UK.) But there are games that sell like crazy all the time and are digital only. Where is Among Us at???
I'm beginning to realize how unfair this lists are to some developers. TMNT Shedder's Revenge is actually the best selling game on the Switch right now and will never make a list like this, because it's only distributed digitally. I think Nintendo needs to rethink it's stance on keeping digital sales a secret. What's the point in the secrecy? It's not like Sony or Microsoft can't just call the developer and ask them how they sold on what console. Why the weird secrecy? If a game isn't selling well that a lot people thought was great, that might even really some people to champion it. This should change the law to require this information to be disclosed.
@Moistnado I would have agreed you probably just last year, but I admit I was wrong about both things: the button pad and the digital triggers. The digital triggers are more useful in more games than analog triggers. I have Mario Sunshine, and an original GameCube controller. I went right back to 5th JoyCon layout, which surprised me. I own Trials Rising by Ubisoft which allows you to race using the GameCube analog triggers. I went back to the JoyCon. Racing by using the analog sticks is actually better than analog triggers. (And no, analog triggers don't make racing games more realistic, because that's not how cars are controlled AT ALL.) The button D-pad has also been eye opening. Two games in particular highlight this: Tetris and Hatsune Miko. Both games don't play well with traditional D-pads. And I have never had any problem with D-Pads using them with 2D games. Now people do point out that the button pad is not good for fighting games. And that's true. But what do people leave out? The fighting games community also says that the Pro-Controller D-pad isn't good for fighting games! Look at the type of controllers they actually prefer! (Only the stock Sony controller seems to get a passable grade when it comes to fighting games.) So while people hate change usually,( that's usually the first reaction, and it's natural.) In reality, I couldn't find any issues with the JoyCon layout in day-to-day gaming sessions. I would love to come on here and bash it, because I wanted to hate it, but it's actually been just fine.
@YoshiAngemon I mean that's fair but did Capcom really put as much efforts into their collections as this?? People are complaining about the execution, but to also be fair to SEGA they did WAY more than any other company. New animated cutscenes for each game, making all the games native widescreen OR 4:3 (user choice!), a fun mission mode, added new moves to the game!, restored the SEGA CD intro, great save system that allows you to save per character, let's you play the games connected as one giant run!, new blue sphere stages!, premium songs in the museum (these are fully orchestraed songs from the series), added a way to quickly replay special Stages, fun islands front menu that has all the characters running around. Capcom is going to take the ROMS and throw them on a cartridge. And people will be happy with this. But let's not mistake the effort here over what Capcom will do.
@-wc- I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I prefer the control stick for shoot 'em ups. Mostly because I find D-pads tiring for those games. I actually like using the control stick a lot for D-Pad games. I will use D-Pad for tricky platformers and virtual console games though. If I was going to complain about anything on the Joy-Cons, it would actually be the LEFT-RIGHT shoulder buttons. They sometimes don't register if you don't push them in at the sweet spot.
@Moistnado I didn't buy the Switch the first year because I was upset about the D-Pad. Boy was I dumb. I didn't realize how great the button pad is for certain games. Specifically Tetris and Hatsune Miko. You DO NOT want to play those game with a traditional D-Pad. The button D-pad is just fine for all 2D games outside of fighting games. But then against I think they all prefer arcade sticks for fighting games. (I will say that Sony's D-Pad is probably close to perfection though.)
Nintendo definitely needs more work in their online department. I hope she pushes them into doing more microtransactions, NFT's, and season passes before EA dominates this space. Wouldn't it be great if Nintedo introduced MiiVerse where you could spend real money? Imagine purchasing virtual T-Shirts, based on your favorite bands, for $25 dollars for your Mii to wear?
@Freek Yeah, but I gotta feeling that when they do release Golden Eye, it will actually use both sticks. Since it's technically already programmed in using two controller, this should be easy enough. Unlikely that we will see Gyro controls, but one can only hope.
@Not_Soos I ALWAYS throw an item I am carrying as a cross the finish line in Mario Kart. Now you might think this is pointless, but sometimes in order to come in first, you have to make sure someone else finishes third or less. The order other racers finish is important in the final standings.
@HotGoomba No, no. Remember, No Gravity Games is just the publisher. There job is really to just port the game over to Switch. The games are made by all different people. So the quality varies. I would say Okinawa Rush is their best game, but isn't included in the free giveaways. However it's on sale, and I think there is a demo. Some games that are good and might be included include Creepy Tales and Connection Haunted.
@Ryu_Niiyama The quality of their games are all over the place. Creepy Tales, Golden Force, and Connection being on the good side. Their two most acclaimed games, Okinawa Rush and Tanooki Justice aren't included in these free game giveaways.
Arcade ports are an interesting idea, although the Sega CD would still have been unable to emulate arcade games at the time so they still would have had elements missing. For example, Final Fight CD didn't have as many onscreen enemies as the arcade. The problem with SEGA CD is actually the business model. Look at how Sony used the price of Playstation games, $40 often, to pummel Nintendo 64, $70 often. SEGA CD should have competed on price. I personally would have lowered the price of games, and also given developers a reason to makes games for the SEGA CD. For example, I would have gone to developers and said, if you make a cartridge game, and also release it on SEGA CD, we will lower the cut we take from 30% on cartridge games to 20% on SEGA CD. Even if it was the exact same game. You might have seen the entire Genesis library released on CD.
@jikflet I'm glad you brought up Tetris 99. Because you can purchase the game as a physical release for $30 dollars and play it offline without NSO. I'll give a different example of this. Let's say you buy a car and 6 months later the car company calls and says it is giving you 1 year of gas for free. Is the fact that you paid for the car not make the gas free? Even though you bought the car without any expectation that it would come with free gas? There is no expectation that NSO also included original games being added. The fact is that you can both purchase Tetris 99 and Mario Kart 8, and play offline, but need to pay extra to play online. I would say that sticking point here is the very narrow definition of a free game is that it can ONLY be the Free-2-Play business model. While I were to buy a box of cereal that had a free game inside that wouldn't count. When I reality players actually spend more money on Free-2-Play games then they do when free games are packaged in other ways.
@jikflet Your thinking is substituing current knowledge away from how actual events unfolded. The Nintendo Switch Online Service offered no promises of free games beyond NES and SNES games when launched. This is VERY different from Sony and Xbox which promised free games as part of their service. Under what obligation was Nintendo to give players free access to Tetris 99 as part of the service? There is none. Cost of the service did not go up, and there was no expectation for more games to be delivered. This is FAR different from Microsoft Game Pass in where games are EXPECTED as part of the service. Nintendo could remove it's games (AND IT HAS!) and this would have no impact on the way the service was marketed and sold.
Hmmm...I kinda disagree with everyone, even the person that wrote the article: Tetris 99 and Pac-Man 99 are indeed FREE games! People are like "Oh you have to subscribe to NSO to get them." Except the problem is that NSO never promised free games outside of NES and SNES games! Nintendo NEVER said that additional games were coming. People bought the service for Cloud saves and Online service. Who purchased NSO thinking they were getting Mario 35, or Pac-Man 99?? Those were just dropped on there entirely for free! Also when Mario 35 left the service, nobody unsubscribed to the service because they weren't subscribing to obtain games nobody knew was coming.
@DrDaisy I the ticket system is going to be the way they help ease those switching over from the old platform. "I have to buy the games again?" They might give players tickets or have you earn tickets in game. So you don't have to pay full price again for the same game. That's the idea anyways.
@mereel The problem is most games don't need a second screen. Asymmetrical multiplayer? This leaves out ALL single player games. The reason the Switch is successful is because it's selling point can be applied to ALL games. Even now, you can do asymmetrical multiplayer on trh Switch, there are over 7,000 games, and you can't go on one hand how many games use that feature.
@NolandC Well I hate to tell you this, but more people play games on mobile than PC or Console. Apple is the largest video game publisher by revenue. I'm not saying gaming on a phone is better, it's just that it's #1 right now. More people actually own a smartphone than own a PC.
I actually have quite a few of these. But I want to add to the discussion more. An obvious miss is probably Catherine Full Body, technically still a puzzle game. And now I want to mention a few games for people that like to go off the beaten path. I would say look at "Infini" if you like weirdness and stories intertwined with your puzzles. Also, look at mini-Trains, it's a little bare bones, but it's puzzles are interesting. Also, just for diversity, check out Pudding Monsters. It definitely feels like a mobile port, but it's a well done port. It also might be the ONLY game that is both touch screen only and tate mode only. It has a lot of personality (as opposed to mini-Trains), and some puzzles that are really stump you.
@Kiz3000 Okay! I was wondering why it was only $20 dollars then. This makes sense. At that price I won't hold that length against them. Seems fair. I wouldn't say that a mediocre game is better because it's 20 hours long, in fact, it would be a better game if it was shorter. So, at only two hours long, it's going to HAVE to be a really great experience from beginning to end. Any parts of the game that don't excel will really stick out because of the short length. Will have to see what the reviews are.
@ROBLOGNICK The only American exclusive game I can think of is Super Mario Bros. 2. But it's on the Japanese NSO service as Super Mario Bros. USA. Some of the biggest differences between the USA and Japan Edition of games is actually just the difficulty. For example, Ristar is easier in Japan. As our the Castlevania games, if you have the Castlevania Collection which has both version on there.
@Royalblues That's crazy that you mentioned AI: The Somnium Files, I just bought that game! It wasn't even on my radar, but I was looking at the games that were part of the BIG sale, and people kept mentioning that game. Luckily, it had a demo, so I was also able try it out before buying. Very cool game. Very dark in it's story. Normally I don't look for visual novels, but I like to try new things. I can't say for sure it has replay value, but there is definitely some content then can only been seen by making different choices. Might be minor things though. I'm surprised that the whole game was voice acted, I thought it was going to be reading most of it. They should really call it a visual-audio book.
@Royalblues That to me is the biggest issue with games-as-a-service. Xbox Games Pass games leaving the service, and now we see the same thing happening with Sony as PlayStation 3 games have been leaving the service. Eventually Nintendo will shut down the Expansion Pass and those games will leave. And games in trh Clouds will be shut down and those will disappear. Sony and Microsoft made a mistake this time with giving people both physical editions and digital only editions. Next time there won't be physical game consoles at all. It's just a matter of time.
@Royalblues With the Xbox in particular, I think it's a bit hypocritical to hear YouTubers bemoan and complain about some games not getting physical releases, and then they say they are going to play this release on XBox Game Pass, a digital only service. It is clear that the momentum behind Xbox over PS5 is about the service. But the irony of this crowd is not lost on me.
I like your console! Now I can play Switch Sports in local co-op against R.O.B. the robot! And DS games would be perfect on the Switch's screen because it Tate mode. However, I have to say, that the console that did the most traveling for me was the GameCube! I used to take the GameCube outside, into the backyard all summer long. I had small TV just to do this, and EVERYONE would come outside to hang out even if they didn't game. I have never done that with another console, and it was the most fun I had gaming. Was it the handle? Hard to say.
@SteamEngenius Yeah, I noticed that. If you die quickly, sometimes starting up a game is longer than the gameplay. Games like Tetris 99, Among Us, Killer Queen Black, Pokemon Unite are quick to get into and the playtime is usually longer. I thought Fall Guys was just okay. Definitely didn't live up to the hype.
Frogun looks like a cool edition to the Switch. I also like what this represents in a larger context. Way back when, the consensus was that early 3D games, from 1st generation consoles, would be discarded in the future because of the poor graphics. Now we are seeing our first glimpse into N64 style retro graphics. While the performance level will be higher, there is a certain aesthetic art form these early entries into a new dimension. For example, there is a whole sub-genre of modern horror games that emulate the odd look of Playstation 1 titles. They have that odd, muddy surreal look to characters faces that's eerie in atmosphere, but that you need for that genre. If N64 style graphics become acceptable, we could see indie developers finding some space in the 3D gaming world.
@X68000 I wouldn't even call the Sega CD a failure. The 32x was a failure. The Sega CD sold relatively well for peripheral that cost twice the price of the base system. The issue WAS the games. When it was released (full disclosure I owed one at release), the games being pushed were the FMV games. Those were utter garbage, even at the time. They were trying to of video on CD! Not a DVD, but a CD! The only interesting games at the time were when they would package 3 Genesis games on a disc, and sell it for the price of one. But you paid so much for the system...to play bargain cartridge based Genesis games? Okay, so it can't do video well, but it does music EXTREMELY well for the time. So they re-release some Genesis games with (arguably) better music. But then we winded up with a different problem. Take a game like Sol-Feace, the soundtrack is awesome!! But the game is average. There are 25 better shooters on cartridge for the Genesis. Take the game "Hook" like the movie. The music is incredible! It's literally music from the film! The game is mediocre at best though. Sega CD games should have been cheaper to make then cartridge games. Was Sega releasing Sega CD games at lower prices? NO!!! Anyways peripherals sell as well as peripherals sell, which is not that well. (That's Microsoft tried bundling Kinect with consoles.) Anyways, back to Final Fight. The reason Final Fight CD wasn't a big deal back then is because the SNES version and already been out WAY before. And it was a good version. In fact, it came out twice on SNES before it came to Sega CD, adding the missing main character from the game. But the other reason, nobody cared about Final Fight when it did come is another game: Streets of Rage 2. Everyone knew it was better than Final Fight. Sega SHOULD have released there BEST Genesis games on CD with better music. But not even the game that needed two cartridges to complete (Sonic 3) would be made on CD. "Hmmm...I could either spend $80 dollars on two Sonic 3 cartridges or $40 on Sonic 3 CD?" You see how dumb that decision was back then? And remember this, Sonic CD was the best selling Sega CD game! Not knowing how to play to the strengths of the CD medium is what did the add on the greatest disservice.

Re: No Gravity Games Is Giving Away 5 Nintendo Switch Games For Free - Starts Today (North America)
@Ryu_Niiyama The quality of their games are all over the place. Creepy Tales, Golden Force, and Connection being on the good side. Their two most acclaimed games, Okinawa Rush and Tanooki Justice aren't included in these free game giveaways.
Re: Four Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Have Been Added To Switch Online's Expansion Pack
Re: Gallery: Here's A Look At Custom Robo 1 & 2 For The Switch Online Expansion Pack
@Moistnado You don't need a separate NSO account. No matter what region you make your NSO account in, it's good for any other region.
Re: Best Free Switch Games - Download And Play Right Now
@jikflet I'm glad you brought up Tetris 99.
Re: Best Free Switch Games - Download And Play Right Now
@jikflet Your thinking is substituing current knowledge away from how actual events unfolded.
Re: Best Free Switch Games - Download And Play Right Now
Hmmm...I kinda disagree with everyone, even the person that wrote the article: Tetris 99 and Pac-Man 99 are indeed FREE games!
Re: Zen Studios Announces "Next-Gen" Pinball FX Game For Switch, Introduces New Battle Royale Mode
@DrDaisy I the ticket system is going to be the way they help ease those switching over from the old platform. "I have to buy the games again?" They might give players tickets or have you earn tickets in game. So you don't have to pay full price again for the same game. That's the idea anyways.
Re: Reggie Explains Why The Nintendo Wii U Didn't Utilise Dual GamePad Support
@mereel The problem is most games don't need a second screen. Asymmetrical multiplayer? This leaves out ALL single player games. The reason the Switch is successful is because it's selling point can be applied to ALL games. Even now, you can do asymmetrical multiplayer on trh Switch, there are over 7,000 games, and you can't go on one hand how many games use that feature.
Re: NPD Group Predicts Switch Will Sell Most Units In North America In 2022
@NolandC Well I hate to tell you this, but more people play games on mobile than PC
or Console. Apple is the largest video game publisher by revenue. I'm not saying gaming on a phone is better, it's just that it's #1 right now. More people actually own a smartphone than own a PC.
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Puzzle Games
Re: Best Nintendo Switch Puzzle Games
@Maulbert There are not too many puzzle games that are designed for versus co-op. Maybe it shines better when playing against someone else?
Re: Bright Memory: Infinite's Crysis-Like Action Stuns In Release Date Trailer
How the hell is this game on Switch? LOL
Re: Bright Memory: Infinite's Crysis-Like Action Stuns In Release Date Trailer
@Kiz3000 Okay! I was wondering why it was only $20 dollars then. This makes sense. At that price I won't hold that length against them. Seems fair. I wouldn't say that a mediocre game is better because it's 20 hours long, in fact, it would be a better game if it was shorter. So, at only two hours long, it's going to HAVE to be a really great experience from beginning to end. Any parts of the game that don't excel will really stick out because of the short length. Will have to see what the reviews are.
Re: Custom Robo And Its Sequel Join Japan's Switch Online Service Next Week
Most people are aware of Japanese exclusives in the eShop, but I never hear anything about European exclusives. Are there any?
Re: Custom Robo And Its Sequel Join Japan's Switch Online Service Next Week
@ROBLOGNICK The only American exclusive game I can think of is Super Mario Bros. 2. But it's on the Japanese NSO service as Super Mario Bros. USA. Some of the biggest differences between the USA and Japan Edition of games is actually just the difficulty. For example, Ristar is easier in Japan. As our the Castlevania games, if you have the Castlevania Collection which has both version on there.
Re: NPD Group Predicts Switch Will Sell Most Units In North America In 2022
@Royalblues That's crazy that you mentioned AI: The Somnium Files, I just bought that game!
Re: NPD Group Predicts Switch Will Sell Most Units In North America In 2022
@Royalblues That to me is the biggest issue with games-as-a-service.
Re: NPD Group Predicts Switch Will Sell Most Units In North America In 2022
@Royalblues With the Xbox in particular, I think it's a bit hypocritical to hear YouTubers bemoan and complain about some games not getting physical releases, and then they say they are going to play this release on XBox Game Pass, a digital only service. It is clear that the momentum behind Xbox over PS5 is about the service. But the irony of this crowd is not lost on me.
Re: Back Page: Making The Perfect Nintendo Frankenconsole
I like your console! Now I can play Switch Sports in local co-op against R.O.B. the robot!
And DS games would be perfect on the Switch's screen because it Tate mode.
However, I have to say, that the console that did the most traveling for me was the GameCube! I used to take the GameCube outside, into the backyard all summer long. I had small TV just to do this, and EVERYONE would come outside to hang out even if they didn't game. I have never done that with another console, and it was the most fun I had gaming. Was it the handle? Hard to say.
Re: Fall Guys Reaches 50 Million Players In Two Weeks Since Going Free-To-Play
@SteamEngenius Yeah, I noticed that. If you die quickly, sometimes starting up a game is longer than the gameplay. Games like Tetris 99, Among Us, Killer Queen Black, Pokemon Unite are quick to get into and the playtime is usually longer. I thought Fall Guys was just okay. Definitely didn't live up to the hype.

Re: Creator Of Philips CD-i Game 'Hotel Mario' Talks Getting Approval From Nintendo
@Pillowpants Didn't Phillips have some sort hardware/software deal with Nintendo? They made some hardware for Nintendo in exchange for some gaming IP?
Re: Nostalgic N64-Inspired Platformer 'Frogun' Leaps Onto Switch In August
Re: Four Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Have Been Added To Switch Online's Expansion Pack
(That's Microsoft tried bundling Kinect with consoles.)
Anyways, back to Final Fight.
