Re: Sonic Origins Contributor Shares Frustrations Over The State Of The Game

thinkhector

The bugs in Sonic 3 are obvious, but not major. When you die in Sonic 3, you respawn with the shield you had. (Obviously, you should lose your shield.) You can die in Sonic 3 if you out run the screen. That shouldn't happen. Sometimes you don't respawn in the correct place after a death. Some objects can now kill you from the sides, when they only use to kill you moving up or down. Sometimes it looks like you missed the spikes but they kill you anyways. Those are some of the issues.

Now, one complaint I have heard is about Tails in Sonic 2. People say that when Tails is off screen they can him hear him dashing, and flying, and trying to catch up to Sonic. THIS IS NOT A BUG. Why? In Sonic 2, originally, Tails was dead silent. He didn't have any sound effects to his actions. So turning them back on was obviously a design choice. (I kinda like it because it's funny personally.)

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@Lizuka Yeah. I am in the same boat. I have already played the Remasters of Sonic 1, 2 and CD. I have even played the Remasters in 4:3, which I kinda prefer. (Some areas of the game don't fit right in widescreen.) So unless something dramatic was added to Sonic 3...and so far all we knows is that they took away music for worse music.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@WaveBoy Sonic CD is so weird. It was originally suppose to be Sonic 2 by the ideas were scraped. The director still liked the idea, so they let him have at it on Sonic CD. I suggest simply ignoring the time travel gimmick your first time playing it. Also, you might notice a few familiar set pieces. Sonic Mania was liberal in borrowing for the old games.

Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"

thinkhector

@Tharsman The PS3 was over engineered with the Cell Processor not being really good for gaming (Xbox 360 was more powerful), and they built into an entire PS2 to make backwards compatible. With the Xbox One, Microsoft made the poor decision to force buyers into Kinect, wanted to make people go online to secure games, and forgot about the games. The Nintendo Wii U was a good idea, but they didn't understand why. Nintendo thought games would use the second screen, but the true killer feature was playing games off screen, but games that needed TWO screen couldn't be played this way. Plus the table was low res with old touch screen technology. Nintendo simply focused on the wrong use of the tablet.

Re: Feature: Nintendo eShop Selects - May 2022

thinkhector

@FishyS I was thinking about picking up Pac-Man Museum+ until I learned that there was no vertical, aka tate, mode for the arcade games. Namco had already made that option available in its other collections and Arcade Archives have released these titles seperately with the vertical mode intact, but they cost more than this compilation. Anyways, it m made me hold off.

Re: Switch Online Should Leverage GameCube, Wii And Deliver "More" N64 Content, Says Former NoA Boss

thinkhector

@GrailUK 32 million NSO subscribers × $50 is 1.6 billion dollars. You don't think Nintendo is interested in making money? Part of the reason Nintendo sees this as a better business model than mini-consoles is the chip shortage, cost to produce the hardware, and transportation costs. Nintendo knows that in order to sell old games, you have to package them in new ways.
That's why I do agree that HD releases for GameCube and Wii titles makes more sense. But the Gameboy doesn't need HD. So will that make the service?? We shall see June 29th.

Re: It's Time To Throw Hands: AAA Clock Is Getting Five New DLC Clocks

thinkhector

This does have one use. I get so annoyed everytime I wanna know the -date-, and not the time on the Switch. Why can't Nintendo add the freakin' date to the side bar? It's buried in the settings branches and that's the only way to get to it. It's so odd that it keeps track of the date, but doesn't display it in an obvious way. So yeah, AAA Calendar would probably be a better name/idea.

Re: Sega Shares An Extensive Overview Trailer For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@russell-marlow I have actually played both Christian Whitehead Remastered versions in both widescreen and 4:3. I actually prefer the 4:3 versions. These games were not designed for widescreen support and it shows. Don't be surprised, when like me, you were excited for widescreen, and then wind up preferring the 4:3 Remaster.

Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Strikers Is Pipped At The Post By Demon Slayer

thinkhector

Sony should just pull the "digital edition" of the PS5 from the shelves. They completely misread the market there. The digital only edition should have been priced exactly the same as the disc drive version. The difference should have been a much bigger hard drive in the digital version. People are already complaining that they can only store like 7 games on that built in drive.
Nintendo should seriously consider keeping the "Switch 2" at 1080p because hard drive requirements get ridiculous at 4K. Instead they should focus on 1080p at 120fps or at least 90fps.

Re: Atari Goes WarioWare In Microgame Collection 'Atari Mania' Out This Summer

thinkhector

That's a good price point for this! And that little note at the end that fully playable remastered versions of Atari classic games will be included is VERY interesting.
Atari has actually been steadily making more modern version of it's back catalog under the "Recharged" brand. They have also already have their classics on the Switch. It's curious to see how these will fit in, maybe somewhere in between? Some classic gameplay with updated visuals??

Re: Sega Shares An Extensive Overview Trailer For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@russell-marlow Yeah both this edition covers both play styles. For some people, this will be their first time playing Sonic, and with backlogs the way they are, they might not want to spend weeks and months 'gettin' good' to see the whole game.
You still have classic editions if you want to challenge yourself. So both play styles are included.

Re: The Switch Has Now Sold Over 25 Million Units In Japan

thinkhector

@Degenerate_Mii I have been saying the same thing!! Not only would a TV only Switch be much cheaper (no battery, no screen), but it could open a mild return to Wii U. What do I mean by this? The entire portable Switch could be used as a game controller with second screen options. For example, the Splatton maps being shown at all times. Or with a Pinball game the DMD being show on Switch portable. Just little extras for people that might own both versions.

Re: Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Brings 32 Classics To Nintendo Switch This July, Here's Your First Look

thinkhector

@sixrings Arcade Archives does a good job and Namco has released their acrade games individually and as part of collections. The issue is one of pricing: Arcade Archives in crazy expensive. Also most titles never go on sale. While the quality of Arcade Archives is excellent, you do have to be careful with some of these collections. For example, the Sega Genesis Collection and Pac-Man Museum + all have lag. The Capcom Stadium is on the great side.

Re: Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Brings 32 Classics To Nintendo Switch This July, Here's Your First Look

thinkhector

@Dan420 Yeah that makes sense. When the first Capcom Stadium came out, I waited until you could purchase individual titles and not just bundles. After picking up a couple titles, I wound up buying the entire thing because, like you said, a better deal than buying piecemeal. The best thing about that collection is the song though: "🎶 Arcade ... The Good Old Days ... Being In The Arcade All Night 🎶"

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Classic & Radical Physical Editions Revealed

thinkhector

@Magrane Yes I agree digital is here. When you look at the number of games available on the eShop versus retail, the vast majority of games are ONLY available digitally. I think this idea that if a game isn't physical it won't be available on the future. The PC side of things definitely disproves this. Games going back decade's are available on PC digitally. This is actually how most emulators work. You don't go out and find the physical copy, you actually want the digital copy. Look at M.A.M.E, it wouldn't even been physically possible to store every arcade game in your house. I think the fallacy is that physical is the best media for game preservation when in fact digital is actually the best means of game preservation. Flobby discs, CD-ROMS, Gameboy Cartridges...modern PC and mobile hardware doesn't even come with these physical drives. Physical media actually becomes obsolete quicker and harder to access over long period of time as opposed to digital, which doesn't care about the storage medium being used.

Re: Jun Senoue To Adapt Some Of Sonic 3's Music For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

Interestingly enough people always point out the PC release of Sonic 3. They never mention that Sonic 3 was also released on the Wii (classic music and all). It also has the lock-on technology for Sonic 1 (Bluespheres) and Sonic 2 (Knuckles). I actually look forward to the new music as Sonic 3 was my least favorite it terms of music and character design. It would be cool if you could use Sonic's sprite from Sonic 2 or in this. (Sonic's Sprite in Sonic Mania is the bee's knees though.)

Re: Jun Senoue To Adapt Some Of Sonic 3's Music For Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@Clyde_Radcliffe I'm with you. I am actually looking forward to the new music. People are gonna complain, but this could actually be an improvement. Now if course the best option would be to have new music, but also be able to switch back and forth, but I never thought the Sonic 3 soundtrack was all that great to begin with. Sonic 3 ALSO has another fault that it makes it the least played game, Sonic's character Sprite doesn't look good. I hope they allow a swap out of this. (I don't think it does, but they did change Sonic in Sonic CD (optional) so it's not of bounds.)

Re: Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Brings 32 Classics To Nintendo Switch This July, Here's Your First Look

thinkhector

@ReaperMelia The Street Fighter Collection has some extra games, but more importantly it has a feature missing from Capcom Stadium: It has online versus play. That could very important to soem. As for the the Fighting Collection, if you have Capcom Stadium 1 & 2, there is only one game on there that isn't included. So it's weird that Capcom is releasing it at all.

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch Sports Is Comfortably In Second Behind Horizon

thinkhector

@uptownsoul I'm not talking about the inflation that we have currently. I'm talking about the inflation that is still to come. We are facing year-over-year 8 to 9% inflation rates. (It's because politicians thought you could foolishly cut taxes and continue increasing spending---forever. They create an inflation bomb so to speak.) Anyways, gaming falls under a luxury good. And when bad economic times hit, gaming will be one of the things people can cut back on. It's not that people won't want it.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge Classic & Radical Physical Editions Revealed

thinkhector

@CANOEberry People really need to get over physical copies. Digital is the future. Take Mario Kart 8 as an example. You want all DLC included with physical release? Well you would then have to wait 6 years for the physical version of Mario Kart 8. Smash Bros. is another example of DLC being released over years. Plus MANY, MANY indie games don't get a physical release at all. Lastly, I want to point out the utter hypocrisy of many physical collectors, especially YouTubers who focus gaming, every single one of them also subscribe to Microsoft Game Pass—a digital only service.
The only good counter argument you could say is that the all digital PlayStation 5 console and Xbox console were rejected on the market. I think that has more to do with a product taking something away without giving you anything else. PS5 games files are HUGE. They should have made the all digital versions the same price BUT included larger hard drives. That would have made the difference. They should never have been marketed as a "budget" option in the first place.

Re: Video: Here's 45 Minutes Of Sonic Origins Gameplay Footage

thinkhector

@nocdaes The Sega Ages versions aren't completely irrelevant. Those are still the original roms. The "Classic" Sonic (4:3) versions in this compilation have also been remastered. There will always be a market for completely unaltered version of games. That's why I always say there is NO definitive version of a game: there is the best version of the original game and the best remake/remasters version. They actually co-exsist.

Re: Apple's iOS 16 Update Supports Switch Joy-Con And Pro Controllers

thinkhector

@Williamfuchs420 I got an Android like 4 months ago. Had an iPhone since the first day. Granted most of my iPhone games were older, but they had ZERO controller support. I still have iOS games because of AppleTV. This actually a good comparison because AppleTV games MUST include controller support. The difference in the games available for iPhone Game Pass versus AppleTV Iis wide for this reason alone. Android has had controller support much longer so it's older games have support.
Honestly, this question doesn't matter too much. Since the Switch has replaced mobile gaming for me. (Mostly because of controller support.)

Re: Review: PAC-MAN MUSEUM+ - A Gaming Legend's Best Collection Yet

thinkhector

@Joeynator3000 I'm not sure what you mean. Pac-Man 99 IS the modernized version of Pac-Man. This collection is all older games. And you have the other modern one in Championship Edition. Maybe there is a clone like game that fits the bill? I have a puzzle game that's kinda like Pac-Man. Cyber Protocol. No "ghosts" though, you just have to figure out the best way to escape the maze.

Re: Sega Has Considered Dreamcast & Saturn Mini But Is Worried About Extreme Costs

thinkhector

@Silly_G That's cool about the Jungle Book. I didn't know they had updated the collection. Good on them. That would be like Nintendo going back and adding Super Mario Galaxy 2 to Mario 3-D All-Stars.
I guess the big question is what you found wrong with Disney? (To a lesser extent, Nickelodeon.) Seems like they did a good thing. What it something else they did outside of games?
