Re: Gallery: Brand New Screenshots Of Sonic Origins, Out On Switch This June

thinkhector

@Dimey The Sega Ages versions are still relevant oddly enough. Those are the untouched, slightly enhanced, originals. The Classic mode in Sonic Origins are actually Remade as well. (They are based off the iPad versions which has a 4:3 screen.) I think the cost is okay actually 5.00 per game is (if you count Knuckles separately) $35.00. Plus another $10 for all the new animation. There is new cartoon scenes for EACH game. So that's a lot of work.

Re: Sonic Origins Arrives 23rd June, New Trailer And Website Are Live

@Abes3 You actually picked one of the reasons that make remake/remaster debate died out. What do you call the Resident Evil version on Nintendo 64? What the Dual Shock version released on the same Playstation? What about the Windows version? How about the version on GameCube?

Remake/Remaster at one point tried to mean something different, but it just became a blurry mess. It's easier and more accurate to say that Resident Evil 4 was an enhanced port.
It's more descriptive to say emulated...which means it changed nothing. Ported which means its close to the original, but on new hardware. Enhanced Port, which is a game that is ported but with might run with a better frame rate, widescreen, higher resolution, or higher quality music. And lastly, there is remake/remaster, which is a significant change to not just graphics, but to the layout and content of the game.
You see this confusion playing in real time. SEGA is calling the Sonic Origins collection a Remaster. When really it's an enhanced port. It still plays and looks a lot like the original. A true remaster would be Link's Awakening. Which looks nothing like it's original source.

Re: More Sonic Origins Details Discovered, Physical Edition Hinted

@Matty1988 I disagree since this basically is being made by members of the fandom, specifically Christian Whitehead. The team behind Sonic Mania. They actually added Hidden Palace Zone back into Sonic 2. (These remakes have been stuck on mobile for awhile now.) I wouldn't be surprised if they added the two new characters from Mania to be playable across the entire series.

Re: More Sonic Origins Details Discovered, Physical Edition Hinted

@Abes3 @Abes3 Remake and remaster means the same thing. That fact is that no one ever clearly defined the difference between the two terms, so they just blended together. So the the qualifiers we have are is this an emulation, an enhanced port, or a remake/remaster? It looks like all of the above. Looks like it comes with the unaltered original roms, and enhanced remasters featuring extra levels, playable characters, and move sets. I've always said there are TWO definitive versions of every game: the original and the best remaster. Looks like we get both in one package. So that's a win.

P.S. For example, Mario 64 for Switch Online would be the emulated version, Mario 64 in Mario 3D All-Stars would be the enhanced port. And Mario 64 on the DS would be the remake/remaster.

Re: P.3 Aims To Be A Vertical Shoot 'em Up 'With A Twist' On Switch

This instantly reminded me of Switch 'N Shoot which is already available on the console. You think this new game is simplistic? Switch 'N Shoot can be played with just one finger (sometimes I just use the touch screen.) Besides that, the games also share a similar art structure. I can recommend Switch N' Shoot even though it has a learning curve at the beginning to get anywhere. I wonder if this game has any relation to that one?

Re: Hands On: Nintendo Switch Sports Has Great Highs, But Disappointing Lows

@Muddy_4_Ever I'm actually impressed with the motion controls in Mario Kart 8. I have my Wii still hooked up and went back and forth with it. The Mario Kart 8 motion controls are actually REALLY good. The Wii? In racing? Meh.
Motion controls have revolutionized shooters. Gyro Aiming with button controls is better than using two sticks. (Microsoft is the only one still using inadequate controls. Who cares if the next Call of Duty looks like a movie when controls like a 20 year old game.) I don't think motion control are going anywhere it's just that the different control options, touch screen, buttons, and motion will work together and not replace each other.

Re: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection Pre-Orders Go Live, Box Art Also Revealed

@FishyS Man, you are telling me. I really needed those folders. I have nearly 250 games on Switch. And before you ask, it wasn't very expensive to do. I have about 40 games that were just FREE. I have a bunch of games I paid under $1 for. And I have a bunch under $8. Only twice did I pay $60 for a game. Animal Crossing because I knew it would never go on sale. (And it really hasn't.) And also Guardians of the Galaxy. I shouldn't have waited on Guardians because it got a huge price drop later on. But I wanted to see if cloud gaming was any good. (I thought the streaming on Microsoft Game Pass was terrible, unplayable. And Stadia was decent, but not good enough to play. The Switch has it's quirks, but this cloud game is totally playable.)

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@SwitchForce According to Nintendo, the controllers, Pro and Joy, can actually be updated wirelessly. I have the Pro, but not long, and I have never noticed it update. The stranger thing is that my Switch also says that I have a controller that cannot be updated. This must be my 8bit-Do Pro controller that I use on Switch occasionally.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@Yosher Oh wait! I do remember one of the c ok controller updates did indeed do something! It was the update that added Bluetooth audio to the Nintendo Switch. I started playing Super Mario Galaxy, in tabletop mode, using Bluetooth earbuds BEFORE updating the controllers and the audio sounded like a garbled mess. Apparently there was interference from the controllers themselves because the wireless audio sounded much better after I updated the Joy-Cons.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Game Ranked

thinkhector

@Linnybhoy That may be the case in hindsight, but during the console war that's a completely different story. The Sega Genesis was out 2 years before the SNES, so it had a big library before the SNES was even out. Also, the Genesis was knows as the "sports console." This was solidified when John Madden came out for Sega but not SNES. It didn't get Madden until the second on one released. Generally these sports don't hold up as much overtime. But if you wanted to play Madden, the best version of NBA Jam,and Mortal Kombat with blood, in those early days, SEGA was where you were at. Today the SNES has more classic games that people still want to play.

Re: Random: Phil Spencer Did A "Crash Course" In N64 And PlayStation When He Joined Microsoft's Xbox Team

thinkhector

@GrailUK And then they came out wity the Wiimote controller which required you to use the D-pad all the time. Then with the Joy-Con they removed the D-Pad all together. Nintendo is always trying something different. I wonder if they thought about releasing the opposite of the Switch Lite: A Switch home console without a screen. And then those with it can have an option to use a regular Switch as controller. With some bonus, ala Wii U, second screen action.

Re: Pinball FX3's New Indiana Jones DLC Is Now Available, But It's Kind Of Pricey

thinkhector

Just for some perspective. Buying a real pinball machine of this would cost about $9,000. Playing one in the wild, will cost you $1 per game. So for $15 dollars, you could play the game 15 times. I'm not saying that they should be charging more, but if some tables don't get published at all because of licensing costs then that's the REAL loss. If some tables cost less and others cost more...that's fine. As long as it means MORE tables become available for purchase in the future. $15 for a video game I will put 20 hours into??

Re: Microsoft 'Close' To Sacking Senior Dev Who Assaulted 7-Year-Old Son For Refusing To Stop Playing His Switch

thinkhector

@Rambler It's linked to gaming though. I think the success of the article is more dependent on how many people read it and how many people engage with it. Judging by the amount of comments, why should Nintendo Life stay away from stories like this? The user base is active on this. I'm sure you didn't even read of the more obvious gaming articles but you did read this one, right?

Re: Microsoft 'Close' To Sacking Senior Dev Who Assaulted 7-Year-Old Son For Refusing To Stop Playing His Switch

@Not_Soos You do understand that if this person doesn't work at Microsoft he is going to be working some place else? Is the solution he should never have a job anywhere? What's the difference if he works at Microsoft or some other company you never heard of? There is this knee jerk cancel culture that people should be fired from their job for doing something stupid or wrong. Guess what? Sometime in your life you are going to do something stupid and wrong. Because you are human being.
