We've seen developers and publishers race to the bottom in terms of Switch eShop prices, practically giving games away. Then we've seen promotions that have actually given games away for free, with No Gravity Games the latest to jump into that approach this festive season.
It's worth noting that all of this is only for North American accounts, it isn't happening on the European eShop.
First of all, it's encouraging people to sign up to its newsletter on this page, with 500,000 copies of Pirate: All Aboard! up for grabs; you sign up, you get emailed a code for the game.
Owning that then sets you up for an advent calendar-style giveaway starting on 1st December. Like with similar promotions we've seen other publishers run, being the owner of one game from that company will mean specific games will then display as 'free' for a short time on the eShop, in this case one per day. You can see all the details on this page, with the first three games being Creepy Tale, Star Horizon and Strike Force Kitty.
Interested users will apparently need to claim each one on their given day or lose the streak of free games.
You’ll need to be careful though. If you forget to redeem one of the free titles, you won’t be eligible for the rest. The next titles in the lineup for the event will be available for free for users who have the previous ones added to their accounts!
This giveaway will be taking place throughout America. Each title in the giveaway will also be greatly discounted. Remember, if you have missed out a day, you can always purchase the most current game in order to continue your streak of free titles.
As is often the case with this sort of promotion not every game will be a winner, though no doubt some will go all in to collect the whole lot.
Let us know in the comments if you're planning to take advantage of this giveaway.

Their games are terrible and not worth whatever spam you have to sign up for. Kind of depressing how desperate this is.
Only half a million copies!?
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
Is there ANY worthwhile game in their catalogue?
I don't know what to complain about...it is a bunch of free games and you can delist yourself from the newsletter right after claiming the free game (one that really is awfull though) to get started. And some of their games ain't half bad like Wallachia.
So what can ya lose.
Hmmm, I'm tempted to go for it with my US account, but I prefer having as many games as possible on ONE account, and it doesn't look like the publisher has anything unavailable on Russian eShop either. And owning Pirates: All Aboard on TWO accounts would be even more awkward. Oh well, guess I'll be picking these more gradually on sales, then.
@CovidBarbie not nearly as depressing as the umpteenth fanbark incapable of expressing a personal dislike without demeaning hyperbolic epithets. I have a few of their games (with a good few more on the wishlist), and they're all legit fun what they offer. If I had a dollar for every time a fan calls a game "terrible" for few to no relatable reasons, I could probably own half the eShop by now.
I thought Nintendo doesn't allow free games anymore?

@Lostdragon The last vestige of privacy? It will be the last luxury afforded to the wealth in years to come, mark my word. Every Tom, Dick and Harry will have signed their anonymity away for “free” samples or “a chance to win” stuff they- deep down- never wanted. Think of what’s at stake!
I signed up, I'll get my free games and unsign.
@CovidBarbie and you're allowed to share fanbrained opinions in public (of which you're undoubtedly proud as well - we fans often are), although your snarky response miiiight suggest a bit of discomfort when others start freely stating opinions about your opinion in return and expressing it in every bit the style. But then again, that's another day in a fan asylum, too.😏
As for "bad taste", humanity has yet to come up with repercussions for one's taste being labelled "bad" that would outweigh the gains from whatever fiction work evokes such assessments. Doesn't make the label any less idiotic to slap around from the objective angle.
@aznable Well it boils down to what you want in life. Privacy and dignity OR downloading a bunch of games for a mild entertained chuckle before throwing them out again and having an even more stuffed and convoluted switch library as a result.
I have sold my soul for less
@nhSnork I'll stand behind you and fight for your right to be incredibly unworldly! I'm sorry your scope is so small, maybe someday you'll play a real game. Have a blessed and SAFE day, troll.
@Tisteg80 I think they're still allowed but don't count toward the eShop charts. So I'm not quite sure what this company has to gain from this, I suppose maybe the publicity will get them a few extra sales.
@CovidBarbie I appreciate the well-wishing, but someone with my hundreds of hours across Xenoblade, Elder Scrolls and Rune Factory alone, someone unironically replaying junk like FFXIII, Dishonored and Bioshock after beating them once is beyond any hope of salvation from a real game.😥 But thanks anyway and a blessed day to you, too, fellow patient.👌
While it's nice to get some free games, my microSD had no room for shovelware so no thanks.
The eShop’s smorgasbord of demos (especially that of first party titles like Metroid Dread, Kirby Star Allies etc.) would be a far better use of one’s storage (and time) than whatever garbage this comically desperate publisher considers to be “full version” software.
Well I'm a game hoarder so I'll add them just to expand my collection.
@CovidBarbie let’s tone the sass down a bit. It’s starting to become a problem so please try to be nice.
@Pineapple_Mohawk Wallachia had pretty positive reviews. I almost grabbed it in October for spooky season, so I won't complain at a chance to get it for free

@XBontendo Ok then, I guess we are doing this then! Thanks for the info!
Never heard of these guys before, are they like the Switch version of Kemco or do they set a bit of a better standard?
Also I see CovidBarbie got banned. Lmao. Finally.
@Pineapple_Mohawk You bet. I looked their day 2 free game and that was positively received as well. Not all bad to be sure. Some are, but not all.
signed up... where is my code?
@CarlosEFML it'll show up once you confirm. Took a couple minutes for me
@XBontendo Found it! It was labeled as Promotion and wasn't showing up in my inbox. Thanks!
Every time I see this game I think of the collectible ship building game.
Oh, it's the publisher behind Nonograms Prophecy, a picross game so bad that some of the puzzles are completely impossible (they don't load properly).
Why do I feel like that'll be one of the 19...
Their highest-rated Switch title is a 74 on MetaCritic. I need an 80 to get interested.
I remember the Qubic Christmas offer, sure the games weren't the greatest games. But it was fun, like a digital advent calendar.
For the price of "free" you can give them a whirl and even if you get a bit of fun out of some of them it will have been worth it.
I understand that people have concerns over having to sign up for a newsletter, but it that is the case surely its easy enough to make one just for this occasion especially if you plan on making an American account to claim these.
I'm looking forward to counting down with the games and who knows I may even keep some on my SD card.
@Maximumbeans i'm going to miss her poor attempts at being snarky.
@nhSnork Congratulations, you just leveled up after slaying the troll by yourself!
Seriously though, nice responses. I don't know much about these devs but it's a shame that some people think that all games from small teams are shovelware. Some games from them like Wallachia look interesting.
@Vexx234 Me too :’( Nintendo Life ruined 5ever.
Thanks for the info, I registered and got my free code for pirates all aboard within half hour, looking forward to many free games ahead.
@XBontendo this is the more expensive one, hopefully it will be one of the free game.
@tka060681 Yeah, worst case scenario it isn't. Either way it doesn't cost me anything so I'm down
Why is everyone complaining? These games don't seem too bad, you can literally quit anytime and unsubscribe from the newsletter, and the games are FREE! The only thing you might lose is a couple of gigabytes.
@Pineapple_Mohawk Surprisingly, Yes! Tanuki Justice, Connection Haunted, Okinawa Rush. Plus some others I suspect are also good. You have to understand they don't make the games. No Gravity Games is a porting company.
Let what happened to covidbarby be a lesson. If someone with a gray or gold star tells you to stop being sassy then don’t try to argue with them. The ONLY thing that will get you is getting your account banned.
This is exciting! Just got my Pirates All Aboard code and ready for the daily dl
Thanks for the heads up!
Cheaper than the $0.99 "chocolate-like candy" advent calendars and just as much kitschy fun.
