I guess this just shows how many new people are still buying a Switch- apparently after not getting one on Christmas Day. MK8 is becoming the Switch's Wii Sports.
Good to see Mario Party Superstars back in top 10...it is fantastic fun!
I hope Nintendo releases a new mario kart soon. I bought a Wii u and I'm rewarded with 7+ years with no new mario kart (on consoles). Hopefully the long gap has given them time to make a really good mario kart, maybe even mariokart maker.
Cannot wait to see the Japanese sales from the last two weeks.
If there aren’t any major delays this could be a killer year not seen since 2017. The release schedule could be the strongest yet
@Supertiefighter I was wondering what they'd do next, as a new Switch Mario Kart would offer little improvement in visual fidelity over 8, but Mario Kart Maker could be the way forwards?
I wonder why pokemon pearl isn't as popular
@Divinebovine Usually one becomes the "default" version most people buy.
@Supertiefighter a SNES Super Mario Kart Maker would be great!
Man o man, wat was the release dat again for mariokart 8?
Its still one of my most favorite, family friendly game.
Switch software sales in general only saw a modest drop from Christmas week to New Year's week, suggesting strong sustained hardware sales.
@The-Chosen-one May 30th 2014
@PokemonDMG That's sort of what the developers of Mario Kart Tour did on mobile, chopping and changing bits of the old maps and recycling their newer ones. I'd be all for that on the Switch. ^^
Like the Mobius strip 8 in its name it just keeps going.
@Divinebovine A diamond is cooler than a pearl in the same way a sword is cooler than a shield. Just goes to show how much a good video game title can affect sales.
@Supertiefighter i doubt that Nintendo is gonna release another mainline Mario Kart game, considering Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling well, they don't want this game to canabilize it sales, expect the next Mario Kart on Switch sucessor.
@Skunkfish I think it would be good move and could even be a spin off whilst waiting for MK9.
No grand theft auto 5. I’m pleased
@Giancarlothomaz I can understand Nintendo not wanting to reduce sales of mk 8 deluxe, but if they made another game I think it would sell well enough to make up for it, especially if they do something new with the series.
Ha no more GTAV, guess the UK has had enough of Rockstar's bs.
Everybody I know who bought a Switch for their kids this Christmas also bought Mario Kart. It's a must have game for the consoles and so it makes sense it shows up on Dec/Jan sales.
Two sets of nieces and nephews in my family got Switches with Mario Kart after I babysat them and they played it on our Switch. So you're welcome Nintendo, lol.
Wouldn't Minecraft (Switch edition) also be a Switch exclusive?
Lol how in the world do we still not have a new mario kart game with these sales..?? I get it I guess like why release a new version when sales are still this strong but come on.. couldn't they just double their profits by selling a new entry to all the people who already bought mk8?
It seems like they should have some kind of policy where if a certain game sells so good, they release dlc for it. I'd rather see a new game, but, some new courses and cups to race in would be nice.
Also, I hope Mario Kart 9 turns into Nintendo Kart or/and Kart Maker. And I'd love to see a game like that with takedowns, like Burnout 3 or OnRush; grinding your opponent against a wall until they pop up in the air, or slamming someone from behind and their kart gets damaged until it explodes, or get on a ramp and crush them beneath you when you land. It could be a lot of fun.
This is why Nintendo is in no Rush for making a new legit Mario Kart for Switch. The masses are still treating it as if it wasn’t a 2014 era game, but as a brand new game.
@Supertiefighter What is Mario Kart Home Circuit chopped liver? It's technically a new Mario Kart game that must be played on the console.
@thinkhector It's more a toy than a game, which is why most people don't count it.
@thinkhector I didn't buy home circuit, but I heard from a friend that it doesn't work very well. It seems very gimmicky, and would probably be fun for a few hours but then would get boring. It's a cool idea, but you have to set up a track to play it and even then the actual gameplay isn't as good as a normal mariokart. Also, you need to buy another kart to play multiplayer.
