Re: Four Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Games Have Been Added To Switch Online's Expansion Pack

thinkhector

@X68000 I won't go thru your whole list but just to point out a few things:Lunar Blue and Lunar Silver are better on the PS1. Final Fight Arcade is superior and available on the Switch. Keiko's Flying Squadron, Slipheed make no one' list for best shoot 'em up on Genesis, to include them you have to ignore the Genesis library as a whole. Popful Mail is completely over rated. Snatcher is better on Playstation 1. Shining Force is just fine on regular Genesis. And Vay is actually the only real exclusive, so I might give you that one. So Sonic CD, and, even though there are better RPG's, Vay is good for what it is.

@TotalHenshin I started playing Comix Zone and feeling like it was TOO hard as well. But I kept playing. Within 30 minutes I was MUCH better at the game. A few tips, go into the options menu and turn of "blocking" and switch it for a more powerful kick attack. Then in the first page of the game, make SURE you collect the "rat" item. The rat is SUPER useful, even though he seems useless ar first. Also, this is a 6-button game so be aware. The items you collect are mapped to the shoulder buttons and "Y". Honesty, the game is fair, you just have to figure out some tricks to survive. (I won't tell you in what ways the rat is useful, I'll let you have fun figuring it out.)

@Andee Besides the funny meme, it is surprisingly a good game! The music track is killer. And you have a cool tracker beam where you can pull in enemy ships and use them as human shields! Also a nice touch is that color of your window on your ship will change, so you know what power up you have. "Uh, I can just shoot to see my power up?" I don't mean that, it changes so you know which power ups to collect during the game so because you can keep powering up the same weapon. (I've watched people stream the game, they keep collecting every single power up, which is the wrong way to play.)

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games And Accessories For July And August 2022

thinkhector

@Yas People who say that they collect physical to preserve games doesn't know anything about preservation. Physical hardware becomes obsolete, and difficult to repair over long periods of time. Digital IS the best preservation method. Look at M.A.M.E., the whole point is that the hardware is nearly impossible to find. So the games are preserved digitally--playable on any hardware. It's very possible that Nintendo drops physical games for their next system given the limited space in portable hardware.

Re: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Features Over 90 Titles, Including Jaguar And Lynx Games

thinkhector

@Atariboy I looked over the game trailer again, and there was Gravitar Arcade. Sure it's already on Atari Flashback, but does this mean arcade games will be included? That could be a game changer, because Atari only included there earliest arcade titles in Flashback. If they include their late 80s early 90s arcade games that would make this package much better. I'm also thinking that the games might not be that important here. It looks like they are going to do a complete Atari retrospective in this release. Is it possible that the history, interviews, and development artifacts make or break this collection? Especially if it's stuff not seen before? The price point will definitely matter seeing how much they already put into their other collection. (Really the problem is that Atari Flashback exists, and it's good.)

Re: Poll: What's Your Game Of The Year 2022 So Far?

thinkhector

@samuelvictor Strangely, Sonic Origins has me hooked too, flaws and all. (I'm looking at you TAILS!) Anyways, don't forget to try out the old cheat codes, especially for Sonic 1! That one is extra juicy: You change the settings to allow to collect 7 chaos emeralds instead of the normal 6. You can change the character selection to "00" allowing you to play as Sonic with Tails (Damn you TAILS!) And you can add Sonic 3 elemental shields to Sonic 1.

Re: Here's How Much Nintendo's Directors Made This Year

thinkhector

Remember when the Wii U didn't sell well and these Nintendo executives gave themselves a paycut? Over here you get a golden parachute, that is a huge pay day, when you don't perform well and get shown the door. It's how the term "failing upwards" is part of American culture. Obviously it's a system many people despise.

Re: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Features Over 90 Titles, Including Jaguar And Lynx Games

thinkhector

@joey302 Yeah,v that's kinda what I am getting at. Atari didn't make many games itself for those systems, so how are they going to bring any new games to the collection? Atari Flashback already has 130 titles from just the 2600 and 5200 ALONE. And this collection is only brining 90? There is going to be a ton of duplicates for the Atari 2600 and 5200, and then just a handful of games for Jaguar, Lynx, and ST and 7800 COMBINED! And those games are less desirable than the 2600 and 5200. This is going to be the Tempest 2000 and handful of reimagined games collection. You gotta hope at least a couple of those new games are interesting.

Re: Portal: Companion Collection Launches For Switch Today

thinkhector

Nintendo's eShop of "Best Sellers" is not making any sense. So Portal is #7 when looking at all games (this includes physical and digital.) When you look at digital only games, Portal isn't listed at all.
It gets weirder. When you look at Sonic Origins in "all games" it's ahead of CupHead and Amoung US. Switch to "digital only" games and then suddenly Cuphead and Amoung US are higher than Sonic Origins. Something is definitely fishy.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Sonic Origins

thinkhector

@Olliemar28 30FPS on a MENU is not disappointing. It'd entirely ridiculous to compare a console that is over 5 years old to one that just came out. Let alone comparing a home console to a portable one. You know what's disappointing? Playing Sonic with 30fps menu's on a break at work while your PS5 is under your TV at home not being used.

Re: Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration Features Over 90 Titles, Including Jaguar And Lynx Games

thinkhector

Now that I think about it, there isn't anything on the Jaguar or Lynx worth releasing besides Tempest 2000. There aren't any arcade games here because they are already a part of an Atari collection. That same collection already includes a TON of 2600 and 5200 games. Atari ST? Atari 7800? Anything on there? What the hell games are they gonna release? This collection might be all about the new games, but even there Atari is competing with itself. They already have remakes of some of their biggest hits available under the "Recharged" brand. They should just release Tempest 2000 separately.

Re: Feature: Spidersaurs Lands On Switch In July, WayForward Talks Saturday Cartoons And Contra

thinkhector

@NeonPizza Totally agree we need that Contra 4 port the most. I mean the Switch was made for tate (vertical) games, and that's one of the few ones that used both screens, on the DS.
As for DuckTales, I would like to see a mode where you can "switch" back and forth between the new graphics and the old ones, as a few other games have done. I believe he Disney already had the original DucksTales on the PS4/5 and XBOX as part of a collection. So Disney has no issues with releasing old games.

Re: Edia Crowdfunding Cosmic Fantasy Collection For Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@RushDawg That's because someone said that Knoami set the bar forl collections with the Cowabunga Collection. Which no one has ever even played 5o judge it. I was making the point that it was more fair to compare it to Origins, since it's out and people can play it. Origins has some bugs that take the experience down a little. (The bugs are mostly the annoying variety. Just enought minor ones to mar it a little.) But, overall, I haven't seen ANYONE attempt this much for a collection. Which is okay if you are going to be lower in price. So Klonoa doesn't have to do anything crazy, if it has a lower price.

Re: Sega Announces A USB Cyber Stick Controller For The Mega Drive Mini 2

thinkhector

@Wataru I was being sarcastic about it's size. I was just confused about this strategy. Why would a person interested in a mini-console ALSO be interested in a GIANT controller? Also, what connection does this controller have at all with SEGA, it was made by SHARP?? And this controller costs more than the system! Now people might be saying that this would be good for PC, but givien the price, there must be better options already on the market for flight sims.

Re: Review: Capcom Fighting Collection - An Essential Buy For One-On-One Fighting Fans

thinkhector

@PeteW Remember, you want to play these online against other people you need to get the Fighting Collection. Capcom Stadium is a local affair only. I think the opposite is the way to go: Buy the Fighting Collection, and then buy just the games you want from Capcom Stadium 2.
For me, I'm not that into fighting games, so I'll look at getting Capcom Stadium 2 at sometime in the future. (Still messing around with the first! Lot's of games of there I still need to play thru.)

Re: Edia Crowdfunding Cosmic Fantasy Collection For Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@daveMcFlave Did Konami remake all the games to be Widescreen? No. Did Konami commission new animations to connect a the games together? No. Did Konami update the play mechanics adding new characters and moves to previous titles? No. Is there an online leader board for speed runners? Nope. Does Konami have emulation issues in their Castlevania Collection and Contra Collections? YES. To a judge a collection superior before it's even out is putting the cart in front of the horse. In think the Cowabunga Collection will be good, but to say that Konami put more effort into is objectively not true.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

thinkhector

There seems to be a real growing change of opinion of Sonic Unleashed. (That's the one where you begging a WereHog.) Just like with Sonic CD, people are starting to place it at the top of the list. Often times, the simpler games are regarded higher, but overtime, the more complicated games become looked at thru a new lens.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

thinkhector

@samuelvictor I know SEGA is getting a lot of grief for some of the bugs in Origins. (But hey, Nintendo didn't actually hit it out of the park with it's N64 Switch emulator at first.) There is one area where SEGA kills Nintendo. SEGA is actually fine with fan made games as long as you don't attempt to sell them. Nintendo is striking down channels, modders, and even just people streaming their music left and right. SEGA literally hired "fans" to make Sonic Mania. I don't see Nintendo doing something like that.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

thinkhector

@smithpa01 Check out sonic-sms-remake, thats the website name. These are basically Origins/Mania remakes. New levels, widescreen support, additional levels. They have the first two games done. You can play them on the new Xbox, Windows, or Android. These are fan made, so they are released as free software.

Re: Best Sonic Games Of All Time

thinkhector

@BartoxTharglod Sonic CD is a game that is very off putting at first because the Time Travel Mechanic is obtuse. There should have been a level or tutorial teaching you how to use it. Worse, it's not even clear WHY you are time traveling, and when you do learn that you have to destroy something in the past, it's still not clean if you should time travel again. However, once you learn and understand the system, it's quite brilliant. It's the learning curve that sucks. (Game mechanics should be taught within the game, that's where Sonic CD fails.) Sonic CD is arguably the best Sonic game, even ahead of Mania.

Re: Review: Sonic Origins - A Fine Collection For New Fans, Less So For The Hardcore Sonic Crowd

thinkhector

@Dr_Corndog Yeah but the entire package overall is really great. Let's compare to a highly praised collection of games the Castlevania Collection. Did Konami make them all widescreen? Nope. Did they add cartoon featureretts to tie the games together? Nope. Did they create a Mission Mode? Nope. Did they have online leader boards for speed running? Nope. I mean let's give Sega some credit here for really trying. (Yeah, the games have some annoying bugs AND they should fix them.) Also, look at the music situation. Christian Whitehead didn't have the Japanese Songs for Sonic CD (just the music). Sega went and got the rights back and both missing songs with lyrics are back here. (Makes me think if they DID try and get through MJ tracks...hmmm.) Anyways, this collection has WAY more effort than any other I can think of. (Execution is another story, but hopefully we get some patches.)

Re: Review: Sonic Origins - A Fine Collection For New Fans, Less So For The Hardcore Sonic Crowd

thinkhector

@imgrowinglegs The save system is rather awesome. Each mode has it's own auto save and the games doesn't save just when you beat a level, it saves at every checkpoint reach. This allows you to jump in and out of games quickly. No let's say you have been playing as Sonic in one of the modes, but want to play as Knuckles? Each character within that mode gets his own save state.
The real issue with Sonic Origins is that the game has a lot of minor bugs during gameplay with Sonic 3 being the most problematic. Sonic 2 with Tails is also an issue. If no patches are ever issued that will be disappointing.

Re: Review: Sonic Origins - A Fine Collection For New Fans, Less So For The Hardcore Sonic Crowd

thinkhector

@samuelvictor Well to be fair, Sega was too busy to make the widescreen versions of Origins too. Christian Whitehead was so appalled by the iOS/Android versions of Sonic that they released (and they were bad), that Whitehead made his own version than pitched to Sega. Whitehead was a long history of fan made Sonic projects. It's crazy that they let him make Sonic Mania at all. (Apparently he is at work on an original 3D game at the moment.)

Re: Review: Sonic Origins - A Fine Collection For New Fans, Less So For The Hardcore Sonic Crowd

thinkhector

@Yosti Man, I just made this comment a minute ago! But I am going to say it again. I think you are right. The price point of this game doesn't make sense, UNLESS this was going to be the price of the physical release. Which would make sense since Nintendo forces developers to match their eShop price to their physical cartridge. Headcannon (makers of the iOS remasters) just said that they barely got this game out in time for Sonic's birthday. That means there was just NOW WAY there going to be able to manufacture cartridges in time too. Anyways, this will give them time to add patches and release a more bug free physical game.

Re: Review: Sonic Origins - A Fine Collection For New Fans, Less So For The Hardcore Sonic Crowd

thinkhector

@Pandy-the-Panda This may be conspiracy theory, but Sega might have had plans for a physical release all along. If you look at the eShop best sellers list it divides games into ones with Physical releases and ones that are download only. Sonic Origins Digital Deluxe is listed in the physical section, but plan old Origins is listed as download only. (It would make sense to only have Digital Deluxe at retail.) Also the price. Nintendo says that digital releases must have the same price as physical editions. I think $45 is a pretty high price, but it's not high if your intention was to release physically at that price point. My guess is there was just a time crunch, and they wouldn't have been able to manufacture the physical games in time for Sonic's birthday release. But they didn't want to hurt current sales for future sales, so they aren't talking about a physical release. That's my theory.
