Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Price?

thinkhector

@dustinprewitt I agree with this sentiment. It's unclear what Nintendo has planned for the service now that they are including software beyond the retro software. The appeal of the normal online software was Tetris 99, Mario 35, and Pac-Man 99 along with cloud saves. It seems if this expansion pass had been here earlier you might have received Smash Fighters in this fashion. I think as of right now Animal Crossing players will find a bargain here. (I suspect future Animal Crossing DLC beyond this.) But what about games like Splatoon 3, Metroid Prime 4, and Breath of the Wild 2? Will DLC for those games come via the expansion pass too?

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack Release Date And Pricing Revealed

thinkhector

Actually I am kind of excited about the expansion pass now. I was thinking it was just going to be N64 games and Genesis games. This will be a great deal for Animal Crossing players on day 1, but it makes me wonder what other non-virtual console games will get additional content. Will a game like Splatoon 3 get more maps for expansion pass subscriber's? Will you see new games added like Super Mario Galaxy 2? This might be Nintendo's version of a Microsoft game pass.

Re: Nintendo Recommends Some Games To Check Out On The Switch OLED Model

thinkhector

I can recommend two Switch games to new OLED users as well. One of the great things about OLED screens is how great the color black looks. So my two recommendations come from the same developer: Limbo and Inside. If you had to pick one go with Inside. In fact anyone with just a regular Switch should play Inside too. It's really a master class in game making. Very emotional game with constant surprises.

@Mynameishello Also you mentioned Trump. If you interested in how we got Trump and enjoy reading, I suggest the book “Evil Geniuses” by Kurt Anderson. I’ll spoil the book a little bit: the Republicans and Democrats are both to blame. Be open to idea of voting for a 3rd party like the People’s Party. It maybe the most important book you ever read. (The book isn’t an opinion piece, it lays it like a true crime drama.) You can take the red pill or you can take the blue pill. Either way the choice is yours.

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@Zyph I think I mentioned this in another post but the higher end codecs have additional hardware requirements. The AAC codec Apple uses also is CPU intensive, so not good for a gaming system. Now the OLED model could have done something different. I suspect the issue is one of royalties. As Nintendo would have to pay per device sold. It’s the same logic Nintendo used by not including a camera. They wanted to put everything into the core gaming hardware at a fairly cheap price.

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@Mynameishello This is a widely known issue to gamers. Voice calls require two way communication over the airwaves and Bluetooth cannot also process a third signal for music. This is why Microsoft and Sony also don’t use Bluetooth in their latest hardware. The Bluetooth standard is older than smartphones and started on flip phones. You will not find one wireless gaming set that uses Bluetooth exclusively. They come with a dongle and use their own wireless standard due to Bluetooth limitations. Nintendo is not blocking people from doing voice chat in games with AirPods. Bluetooth is incapable of doing it.

Re: PSA: Remember To Update Your Joy-Con, As Well As Your Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@kuuhaku I also tried it the new Bluetooth with Project Diva. That game is always problematic if you don’t have good latency. It was playable but I just wound up using the Fiio BTR3K plugged in. I think the Fiio is really the answer. It allows Bluetooth when latency isn’t high priority but you can “switch” to plugging it in directly to the USBC port. (Sounds even better than the headphone jack.)

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

@Paddle1 Sorry if my post was a bit confusing. I’ll be more specific: While making a call you cannot play Spotify music. If you are listening to Spotify it turns off when a call comes in. It does not give you the option to continue listening in the background of the call. Why is this you may be wondering? Bluetooth does not have enough bandwidth to handle both at the same time.

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

@thegametb Sounds like you have tried a lot of things. I just wanted to share my setup with you in case it helps. (I own 4 USB dongles.) Okay my solution: Creative W3 dongle and Fiio BTR3 DAC. The Fiio will make any wired headphone into wireless. Also it had a built in mic and be used without the Creative W3 if you don’t mind the wire. Works in docked, undocked, but not in table top mode. (I just prop it up on my carrying case or stand at home to get around the issue.)

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@EriXz I had the Genki for a bit. Not really a great device. If I had to recommend just 1 Bluetooth dongle today it would be the Creative W3. It’s the only dongle that exists today that supports BOTH AptX Low Latency and AptX HD. And actually has a button to quickly switch between them. (You will need an additional device like a Fiio BTR3 to complete the setup.)

Re: How To Use Bluetooth Headphones On Switch - Connect AirPods To Nintendo Switch

thinkhector

@Zyph Yeah, I have run into the issues you have mentioned. There is no “single” perfect solution, but I have found a pretty good setup. The Creative W3 Bluetooth USBC dongle AND the Fiio BTR3K DAC. It actually sounds better than what comes out of the headphone jack. You get both AptX Low Latency AND AptX HD. The Creative W3 is unique in that it has a button to switch between them. (You only really need Low Latency for the rhythm games.) It really only has one flaw: You can’t do table top mode without an optional stand. The Fiio has a built in a mic, but you still need to plug into the USBC directly to do voice and audio. And of course, this setup means using a pair of wired headphones. (The Fiio BTR will turn any pair of wired headphones into a wireless pair.)

Re: RedDeerGames Summer Sale Sees Ridiculous Savings On Switch, Prices As Low As $0.09

thinkhector

Nintendo hasn’t prevented games from being on sale for less than $1.99. What they have done is make them harder to find in the eShop. Before, games used to be priced and listed from lowest to highest so you could see games below $1.99 first. Now, any game below the $1.99 price point, for example $.09 cents will be treated like it’s listed for $1.99 and still be buried I the listings instead of “floating” straight to the top. It used to be a good way for software developers to get noticed in the eShop clutter by selling their game for cents on the dollar. That’s what Nintendo put a stop too.

@Heavyarms55 More post like this. If people don't realize that politics plays a role in the video game industry, they aren't getting the full picture. That fact that Apple, Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft each charge 30% show that competition doesn't matter. (Why isn't one of them charging 24% of 19% to lure developers?) Gamers are getting ripped off from all the greed thru higher prices, micro-transactions, and casino-fication.

Re: Review: The Longing - Tedious By Design, And Incredibly Successful At It

thinkhector

@Low_ink Oh you haven’t played The Longing! I actually own it, and it’s not as tedious as it seems on the surface. The only think really to do is decorate your room and explore the cavs. However, they have built some interesting mechanics into the game. For example, no matter how far you wander, you can just select GO HOME from the sub menu and you character will slowly walk home. Now that may sound tedious BUT you don’t actually have to be playing the game! You can exit the game and your character will keep walking without you even having to have the game on. Same with reading books in the game. (Reading books actually adages the time in the game faster for some reason.) However, you don’t have to stay in the game and watch this happen. Your character will auto read while your away from the game. Also, you have some REMEMBER save slots. You can just click on it and come back and your character will be at the location you wanted them to be in. It’s a game where you play for 15 to 30 minutes at a time really.

Re: Review: The Longing - Tedious By Design, And Incredibly Successful At It

thinkhector

@Low_ink Great follow up. I think your additional thoughts bring more clarity to the issue. It actually got me thinking of other non-game games. One of the earliest ones I can think of is ElectroPlankton on the DS. A more popular one would be NintenDogs. I’m sure there are other good examples. At the time, I remember people arguing weather FlappyBird was even technically a game. ShuffleHead on iOS/Android is not really a game either. These non-games actually function more like toys then games.

Re: Review: The Longing - Tedious By Design, And Incredibly Successful At It

@Low_ink Super Mario Sunshine is one of the most frustrating games ever created. (To me this is the reason it’s been polarizing to most players.) So no, not even mainstream games are always fun. Think about times you get stuck in game. Is that fun? I will say this about The Longing, it’s not frustrating just a relaxed experience. Definitely not for everyone to be sure, but then neither is Mario Sunshine.
