@Ogbert "Just Shapes and Beats" and "Fuser" are two games where you don't have to follow the beat. Also, Deku Deals list games by category. "Tetris Effect" is found under the MUSIC category.
@BinaryMessiah You can't fit the Switch Lite into normal pockets it's too long. A Switch without the JoyCons is SMALLER than a Switch Lite. Allowing you to place the JoyCons in a separate pocket. (You could put them in the SAME pocket it's just less comfortable.)
Two more games not easily categorized are Townscaper, not really a game, but a digital toy about making a town. And also, The Longing, a game about waiting around that doesn't even have to be played to win. Probably not as good as other games on this list, but definitely off-beat.
@Ogbert Tetris Effect also can fit neatly into the category of rhythm game. So it does define genre. And Pikmin is an RTS game, but doesn't fit neatly into that category. Some people call it and Action-RTS game, because RTS games are usually Versus or Tower Defense. Pikmin isn't any of those two.
@Freek Obviously you missed out some truly horrendous controllers: the Atari 5200 controller, the Vectrex Controller, OG Xbox Controller (black and white buttons), and the N64 Controller (designed for three hands), PlayStation 4 Controller (battery life!). The Joy-Cons are portable and have a different focus. I don't know if may people do this but you can detach the Joy-Cons and place them in one pocket and Switch screen in another pocket. It's actually more portable than the Switch Lite.
@chipia Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been fixed on the Switch. (Although in this case I was talking about Curse of the Moon since it has similar art style to this game.)
This game will not recieve even the tiniest percent of virtriol that Sonic Origins received even though, from the looks of it, had even more bugs to fix.
@somnambulance Is this game better than Bloodstained? I haven't played either yet, but I have Bloodstained on my wish list and never heard of this title before.
@chipia Konami doesn't make games anymore. I mean even Nintendo doesn't make all of their games in house. I wish Konami would just hire someone else to make the games for them.
@Scapetti Yeah, Sega is in love with their Digital Deluxe packages of games. I think this strategy hurts them because it changes their chart placement on the eShop. Each version of the game, the Digital Deluxe version and the regular version, are tracker seperately. If there was only one product, or SKU, Sonic Origins would have probably been charted at #1 at release.
@sanderev A lot of the games that help Tencent get it's start were licensed properties games like Call of Duty, Street Fighter, PUBG. It was really the rise of free-to-play games and smartphone gaming that changed the landscape. If Tencent didn't exist it would just be some other company. Eventually Chinese game companies will go from making copycat games, to licensed property games, to creating mediocre original works, to creating great original works. And that's the problem with outsourcing, you create your future competition.
@chipia Well to be fair to Konami they did make 6 follow ups to Castlevania Symphony of the Night: 3 games on Gameboy and 3 on the DS. They gave us the Gameboy Collection, hopefully, we get the DS trilogy as well.
@Nintendo4Sonic The issues are WAY over blown. I've played thru the entire game and it's fine. The biggest issue was Tails disappearing off screen and not returning right away. (Guess what? This happens in Mania sometimes!) S&K 3 also had a some extra bugs that would you die in some weird ways. But those are minor bugs. Tails is the only major bug.
@Grumblevolcano Yeah but Nintendo averages a first party every two months. That's a crazy amount of output. Spending time adding more content to older titles would take away time from people working on new games. So you have to balance that.
@d-slice You should see how the nre cars move though. OMG it's crazy! They spin around and go all over the place or they sometimes don't move at all. Really keeps you on your toes.
That's great that Nintendo really listened and added moving cars back to Coconut Mall. Those are some tricked up cars though! "They got the moves like Jagger!"
@Not_Soos Thanks for the info. I whole heartedly agree with you on the price point, and that's why I never picked up. I mean Kirby's Fighters 2 is only $20! And Kirby's Clash is free! And I'm betting Kirby's Dream Course will be $40 at launch. All Kirby games SHOULD be priced lower. Yes, even the new Kirby game should have launched at $50.
@Magician Read the article again...22% drop from last year. It's not going to hit that high again. The Switch succesor will release in late 2024/ early 2025.
I'm surprised it took Nintendo this long to invent the Switch. Look at that list! The NES outsold by it's handheld cousin by 50 million. The GameCube was outsold by the Gameboy Advance by 60 million. And the Wii U was outsold by the 3DS by 60 million. Nobody should have been surprised by the Switch succes when looking at that, but we all were. The Next Switch launch with over 8,000 games. How do I know this? Every handheld Nintendo has ever released was backwards compatible with the generation before it.
@Magician It's not going to pass up the DS. The DS was released before smartphones even existed. Sony and Nintendo aren't the largest video game companies by revenue. It's Apple.
Well it looked for awhile there that Animal Crossing would eventually dethrone Mario Kart 8. Unless Nintendo starts packing in Animal Crossing with a console during holidays, it doesn't look like it will happen. Also, this is the first time Zelda had best Mario! That's something. And Ring Fit Adventure? Wow! That's impressive! Looks like that price drop really helped that title.
@Not_Soos Really? It's got great reviews. And I played the Demo and thought it was really creative and inventive. Is your complaint that it's easy? Cause that's kinda Kirby's whole thing is being easy to play and win. I'm curious, what did you find off putting about it?
You know how Nintendo delayed Advanced Wars? I wonder if we were also suppose to get a Tetris Theme when it launched because that's usually how it went.
@Tandy255 Maybe. But the music from the Arceus theme is awesome! And the art work is fantastic, and the blocks themselves have cool designs on them. None of the is true for Mario All-Stars. The blocks are super plain and the music is reused from Mario 8-bit. And the art work is less iconic than Mario 8-bit. And here is the weird part. Nintendo was releasing themes to time with the launch of new games. Why did we even get Mario All-Stars??? It should have been, and I think everyone will agree, the theme SHOULD have been Mario 3D All-Stars! Imagine how cool that theme would have been!
@NinjaNicky Why don't you just time shift your entire system by 10 hours?? And if you still need a clock on your Switch with the correct time you can get AAA clock on the eShop? (Hey I finally discovered a reason to need a time app on Switch!)
@syrupdash They just covered this. Nintendo actually makes a profit on it's hardware. In fact, Nintendo made more profit in hardware every year except one since the Switch has been on the market.
@Not_Soos I went back and played the Mario All-Stars theme. You are going to very disappointed when you get it. It's by far the worse special theme. The problem is that it's too similar to the 8bit Mario. The theme is slightly remixed and the visuals are less interesting. I mean I hope they bring it back for completeionist sake, but for those who don't have it, you won't be using it much once you do.
Well I checked what themes I had, and it turns out I just happen to be missing 13, 14, and 15. (Miitopia, Mario Golf, Skyward Sword.) I didn't even know I was missing any, since I thought they had added all the theme as ticket unlocks. (Looks like Mario All-Stars is also one you can't get from tickets, which I just learned, but that's not one I am missing.)
@kurtasbestos Yeah that's true. I was shook when I first turned on Super Cyborg, (8-bit?) and the stereo started shaking the whole room. They really went all out for that soundtrack. (Game plays like Contra.) Another game is UltraCore. It was an unreleased Genesis game. Well they decided to pretend that they also released a Sega CD version. And you can pick between the two soundtracks. Square-Enix also re-released the Dragon Quests games. While the graphics got mixed reviews, they replaced the original chip tunes soundtrack with an orchestra. So, sometimes they do upgrade the music.
They went with Microsoft?? Their Game Pass streaming is terrible. The games are upplayble. Google Stadia has better streaming capabilities, but again, not good enough. Anybody strem PS3 games on PS4? I wonder if that's any good. Really the best cloud based streaming I have seen is on Nintendo Switch.
@FragRed All I know is that WWE on TV has cut out cursing and cleavage because to they lowered the rating to PG. They wanted to attract more kids? I don't know what was that thinking.
@fenlix It's good. Fans were kinda asking for this. What they REALLY want is Pac-Man World 2! (There is a third game, but nobody wants it.) People will buy this appetizer to get to the main course. (It's not a full priced game, so that helps.)
Are you kidding me? Saying that August doesn't look that great? People were addicted to Two Point Hospital. I know a couple people more excited about Blossom Tales than XenoBlade. FINALLY! A Shin-Chan game for the first time? That's a big deal! Pac-Man World Re-Pac?!? Even Namco admitted it only ported the game over because fans were pestering them to release. (See what happened with Force Unleashed.) Cult of the Lamb has a chance to be an indie game of the year contender. And yeah, you forgot the Cowabunga Collection. Konami's Collections always make the top 20 in sales, and that one is probably gonna hit #1 on the charts at launch, helped by people wanting more after Shredder's Revenge. It's a GREAT month.

@Mattock1987 I'm talking about the new games coming out. Sony and Microsoft are not releasing first party titles every month for the rest of the year. And Sony's service is expensive with disappearing games. And Microsoft's "steaming" for Game Pass is unusable. It's only good you have an Xbox to download the games. And games disappear from that service too. People complain about physical releases. You want a future where you can't even own digital copies??
