The month of June saw the console industry breathe a sigh of relief after the rather dismal performances all around during May. All major platforms saw improvements in sales, with PlayStation 5 growing by 2%, Xbox Series X/S by 31%, and the Nintendo Switch by 24%.
It's a healthy improvement, particularly given the ongoing supply constraints affecting all major platform holders. Keep in mind, however, that the console market overall is currently down by 39.1% so far this year.
Looking at software, 2.5 million digital and boxed games were sold during June (also keep in mind that Nintendo doesn't include digital sales in its own figures, so this total may be off slightly), which is certainly a respectable amount.
In terms of Switch games, Mario Strikers: Battle League Football was the only new entry for the console, since both Nintendo Switch Sports and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga both released in April. Mario Strikers came in at number 9, but again, this might have been higher if Nintendo would factor in their digital sales. Regardless, it's a decent result for the relatively niche title, though we doubt its initial success will be replicated going forwards.
Here are the top ten games for the month of June:
1 | F1 22 (EA) |
---|---|
2 | FIFA 22 (EA) |
3 | LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga (Warner Bros) |
4 | Grand Theft Auto 5 (Rockstar) |
5 | The Quarry (2K Games) |
6 | Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar) |
7 | Nintendo Switch Sports (Nintendo) |
8 | Horizon: Forbidden West (Sony) |
9 | Mario Strikers: Battle League Football (Nintendo) |
10 | Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (EA) |
Overall, it's been a good month for games; hopefully, with the upcoming launch of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 at the end of the month, we'll see some healthy figures for July, too.
What do you make of the sales results for June? We imagine there'll be plenty more Switch console sales too thanks to some cracking deals in the Amazon Prime day sale...

Question : What do you make of the sales results for June?
Me : Those are ten games that I will never want to play, including Switch Sports for lack of Boxing.
I would rather playing a bunch of obscure / niche games such as My Universe, Paw Patrol, Kitaria Fables, Epic Chef, Dodgeball Academia, Horse Club Adventures, etc than the popular games like on the list above.
@Anti-Matter,
It demonstrates how out of touch the core minorities are, when it comes to the buying habits of regular consumers.
@johnvboy
Well, because I'm different. 😕
Even in real life I don't like to get into mass popularity since I know what is suitable for me.
I pick the games what is fit for me, not what is popular currently. ACNH was coincidentally perfect choice for me since I like The Sims games and no punishment for not playing the game everyday, so I like that game.
And that's why I like to keep the distance from social life as I found a bunch of peoples in my society are peoples who will never compatible with me.
I'm beginning to realize how unfair this lists are to some developers. TMNT Shedder's Revenge is actually the best selling game on the Switch right now and will never make a list like this, because it's only distributed digitally. I think Nintendo needs to rethink it's stance on keeping digital sales a secret. What's the point in the secrecy? It's not like Sony or Microsoft can't just call the developer and ask them how they sold on what console. Why the weird secrecy? If a game isn't selling well that a lot people thought was great, that might even really some people to champion it. This should change the law to require this information to be disclosed.
@thinkhector This top 10 does include digital. Only Nintendo games don't include digital. TMNT was not the best selling Switch game in June, not even on the eshop alone. Idk where you got the idea that it's the best selling Switch game right now.

@BTB20 It was #1 and now it's #4. My point being is that it's listed way above Mario Strikers on Nintendo's eShop, but it will never make a list like this. (Granted I am looking at the US list and Strikers is more likely popular in the UK.) But there are games that sell like crazy all the time and are digital only. Where is Among Us at???
@Anti-Matter,
Life would be pretty dull if we were all the same, and different is O.K, but in reality we all tend to have similar fears, and have a lot more in common with each other that we realize.
@thinkhector On the UK eshop it is not #4, it's way lower.
