@Magonigal I have the 400gb and yea it does add up quickly. i have maybe 40 games with about 20 gigs free atm. 512gb is a good spot if you’re mostly digital
@TheDavyStar Cool, and goal is to have a more civil internet where people don’t yell at each other and call them names for disagreeing, where people can have an actual conversation without the children coming out to stop it. If your “idle thoughts“ run against that then I’m gonna call you out.
@TheDavyStar You tap your comment to see downvotes, they don’t show up by default. You currently have 5 downvotes with 9 upvotes, less than 50% of the cohort liked your comment. Given that it’s not your decision alone cannot decide anything your goal should be to get others on whatever side you’re on.
The argument (if you can even call it that) is not about sides but about creating a proper environment for discussion. Your comment adds zero value to the conversation and only pushes people away. If your goal is to convince others that climate change is worth concerning ones self about then a proper environment for said discussion is the goal. If you value comments based on the contents then please explain how your comment is at all valuable, as it can be removed and the entire conversation doesn’t change even the slightest.
@TheDavyStar what do you mean side? have i made it known what “side” i’m on or is there an assumption on your end. it simply isn’t that obvious, you said:
“ Ahaha same I was thinking Bring on the comments section”
which last i checked means you agree with the parent you replied to. also notice your downvotes? i’m not the only one that feels this way (and i didn’t even downvote you).
@Galenmereth firstly I’m not offended. What’s happening here is a group of people are literally yelling and being general scumbags towards others because they don’t believe the same thoughts. secondly there’s a huge difference between name calling and polite discourse. there is nothing wrong with voicing your opinion but if you want someone to actually listen then you should make the environment inviting, not hostile. failing that, those wanting climate change will never convince those who think it’s not a problem.
@TheDavyStar yea totally presumptuous. this is a text based medium, and none of us know you. how do we know it was a joke? someone from the other side reading it, how will they take it?
@Severian it’s great that you see the problem and are actively trying to minimize it, and I very much appreciate it. we all have work to do in this dept, myself included. the specific comment from you that caught my attention was this one:
“Can’t wait to see how many people commenting here who think climate change is a hoax...”
This statement at best doesn’t invite those thinking it’s a hoax to make comments here, at worst it’s going to add fuel to the fire and cause those thinking it’s a hoax to write a rage induced comment. Further it adds no value, other than making it known your position, setting the stage for others in the thread. You can delete this comment and the threads value remains the same, except it’s a bit more civil.
@Severian while you didn’t call anybody names specifically your statement is still considered a microaggression. key thing here being would it piss someone off from the other side while they read it, and if that promotes proper discourse (it doesn’t)
@-Juice- @Jayofmaya @TheDavyStar @Severian notice how you all set the tone here, essentially forcing people to agree. while this is a nintendo news site and one shouldn’t come here looking for professional level discourse your actions shut down all discourse on it. the last time a large group forced their opinions onto others it didn’t work out well (see catholicism). you all should welcome counter points and not shut down the conversation by preemptively calling people names. or keep your negative attitude and those who don’t believe never will.
@delhaj7 the xbone and ps4 have been on the market 4 years longer than switch, it absolutely it’s approaching market saturation if it’s not already there. that’s why the new consoles come out next year and people won’t buy an old console at this point unless it’s super cheap. my bet is you’ll see some unload on black friday from the super cheap sales and then the switch will continue to dominate until next year
@Bolt_Strike No one has been conditioned. Some people like standard 2D animation, some people don’t. There’s no conspiracy. I personally don’t like anime (I’ve tried multiple times, almost forcing myself and still don’t like it) and the only animation I watch are US shows (American Dad, Rick & Morty, South Park). Some people prefer realism because it’s more relatable to them.
cool, don’t care. they’re the reason blizzard is acting a fool atm. i will never touch anything made by them. not to mention privacy, tencent is a chinese company. they really couldn’t care less about their own citizens privacy, much less citizens of other countries. if people care about the gaming industry they’ll follow and stop tencent before it’s too late and they own a majority of the gaming companies
@KingBowser86 again, proper parenting. i specifically remember my parents telling me how bad it is to gamble, and to this day i don’t do it entirely because of their talks. if you are the type of parent that lets games and shows educate your children because you’re “too busy with work” then expect a messed up child
@KingBowser86 while i hate loot boxes (as it requires i spend more money or can’t unlock it via gameplay) this gambling argument is getting old. proper parenting can easily override anything a corp “teaches”. it’s only the parents that don’t have time to be parents (and shouldn’t have had kids in the first place) that this argument holds any weight
@Tao i think this was actually a poor way to handle this. when you’re a large profile (read, not some random peon) person on twitter you should expect a large amount of traffic. Some, probably most of it, will be duplicates. Still you should maintain your cool and kindly point them to some request form. Granted people shouldn’t spam but you also shouldn’t talk to customers this way.
@Manah yea i agree. this is a huge problem on the internet and it happens with more than just video games. it starts to get real scary when the subject is political
gameloft has done work with tencent before. i’m boycotting anything and everything tencent has had their hands in until the chinese gov releases control of the gaming industry.
@ALinkttPresent changing the color of the animation should be a color value if nintendo programmers are worth anything (they are) so i very much doubt its difficult to add new colors
@SSJ3Goku they’re not gonna run different software on the lite vs the regular. given that you can’t attach a joycon you’ll never know if the animation is there or not on the lite
@darkswabber i don’t even think you have to care about the gaming industry to not buy ea games. even still, they’re a publicly traded company. they have a legal requirement to the stockholders to maintain or increase profit. if it drops enough they’ll have to change to increase it. i think just those that care about the gaming industry will be enough to move the needle. either way people need to realize how much of a rip the yearly sports games are. updating the roster is cheap/free, if this info gets out more you may see more people starting to care. this article is a step in that direction.
why don’t people just stop buying EA games and constantly remind them why? if their sales tank they’ll 180 real quick. here’s the protocol, wait until game release, DONT PREORDER, play the game in store, if it’s garbage move on and send them an email, else buy.
@Friendly when the stock drops like this nobody physically goes to the company and retroactively applies it, there is not a pool of money at nintendo that changes as the price of the stock changes. What it affects is future sales. Any stock nintendo tries to sell now will be sold for less than before. So fluctuations like this are not immediately felt by nintendo, only when they try to sell stock to get more R&D money.
further, prior to launch, there was an expectation of increased profits. since a stocks price is a factor of profit (as well as other things) we see an increase in stock price. once reality sets in and we get actual numbers, investors will recalculate the correct stock price and only pay that much for each share. asking an investor to pay more than what a company is worth just wont work.
@SwitchForce I’m guessing you don’t know much about it either given removing the screen and battery would actually help cooling and make any heat solutions easier to design and implement. creating a pro isn’t hard, but if they added it what’s going to happen to the original switch? will it’s sales suffer? what about performance difference? will some games be pro only? these are the problems with a pro, nothing to do with R&Ding the physical implementation
@carlos82 that is not why dead zones exist. they exist because your average person can’t hold still enough for a stick without a dead zone to not fire.
How many of these poll votes are trolls? Not even a week old and people are already having severe drift? not buying it. now we can’t trust any of these polls and get accurate counts of anybody actually seeing this issue.
@NotTelevision i doubt it will be expensive, they already have an upper limit of $299 and all that’s involved is capturing the signal before it goes to the LCD, convert the signal and output it. I’ll be performing a mod on my original switch that removes the battery and screen and makes it more of a home console. lots of info will be gathered from this endeavor
@Scorchio same reason i just bought one. for travel the normal switch is a bit large. not to mention the locking mechanism on the joycons isn’t as robust as one would like.
@impurekind if we wanna say that holding a world record is important then we should treat it as such. in pro sports when a player is found to be cheating they generally don’t get any MVP nominations and won’t make it into the hall of fame, even if they weren’t cheating when they accomplished whatever it was to get them the potential nomination. He made (allegedly) a conscious decision to use an emulator for a run, knowing that it’s not allowed. pull the scores i say.
Give me motion controls (splatoon 2 style, not doom style) and ill go head to head with mouse and keyboard players. I can’t see myself buying this game if it doesn’t have good motion controls and cross play, I already own it on PC and XBOX
@Sabroni I remember. This is still happening today, so many people use Chrome that sites are now being developed specifically for it while webkit based browsers (safari mostly at this point) are left out. if you actually care about keeping the browser market competitive you’d uninstall chrome and instead use firefox or safari
@Wolfgabe sure, unity is a capable engine but you don’t need to know c++ to write unreal games, their visual programming (which is a joy to use even knowing c++) is full featured and translates to c++. so while c# is easier than c++, visual programming is even easier and suffers no real performance loss over c++
whats with all these people using unity? the fact that they charge to put the editor in dark mode, the harsh lighting unity is known for, plus that c# crap. why no unreal engine? especially since you’re never going to charge for this. if the purpose is to get a job then unreal engine is more in use in the pro world, unity is a joke
@Rayquaza2510 i disagree, the problem with most kids these days is they don’t get enough discipline. fear / pain is a great motivator (which is why we use it to break soldiers, eg boot camp). problems come when this technique is overused but the entire reason you see kids running around now acting a-fool is because of parents not slapping the sh*t outta their kids when they deserve it.
@Bunkerneath i can’t speak for the larger companies but being an indie game dev do you realize how much it costs to release on physical? for most indie devs it’s either release as digital or not at all
@Thorthegreat12 this is gonna sound kinda trollish but i definitely don’t intend it that way, i’m genuinely curious. why did you choose to spend $50 (AUD im assuming) instead of buying a new set for $100 AUD? granted the overall price is higher but the price per joy con is the same
@Heavyarms55 the actual lawsuit is linked below. look around page 10-11, you’ll see a bunch of questions which almost boil down to did nintendo know about this, and if so why did they not disclose the defect to warn future consumers and fix others already still under warranty. if nintendo did know about this and failed to disclose then that would be a violation of various laws. also something to note is they’re seeking 2 different classes. first is everyone in the US that bought a switch, failing that the second is all California citizens who bought a switch. California has much more stringent consumer protection laws than most other states in the US.
@nintendoknife I live in an apartment, with steel reinforced walls (verified the time my upstairs neighbor's sink started leaking and they had to tear out my drywall to replace due to mold).
Playing with an ethernet adapter is not unheard of. In fact of all my switch friends theres only a few that play in portable mode constantly. Most of us use docks connected to our gaming PC's monitor, and networking is already available due to the gaming PC so therefore why use shotty wifi when you're trying to game competitively. Wifi introduces all sorts of problems and the gaming community generally doesn't use it, even on consoles.
What are the specs of the "Chinese knockoff phone"? What times of the day did you run the test? Did you check for EM interference (yes it can affect only one device, and yes you can set your device on top of the router and still get no signal, which is again why you don't use wifi for gaming).
So I did further testing with the two switches I have ready access to, one being a launch day switch, the other being a year 1 switch. For reference my router transmit power is set to 100mW, well below max allowed by law here in the US. Both switches had max power until I left the apartment. No matter which room, distance between router, whatever they were both solid and full signal. To lose signal I had to walk down from the second floor and start crossing the street before I lost signal, and both switches cut out exactly at the same time.
The chip nintendo used for wifi is the Broadcom BCM4356. This is a widely used chipset and broadcom hasn't issued any statements about there being defects. So it's very unlikely it's the wifi chip. The antenna in the switch isn't the greatest, but still unlikely the issue. Most of the issues seem to be with people with cheap or questionable routers, with interesting NONSTANDARD mesh networks and powerline adapters, or in areas with high interference. So again, lose the wifi is still my recommendation. On my network there are exactly 4 wireless devices, 2 iPhones and 2 iPads. Every other thing is attached with an ethernet cable.
@nintendoknife i’ve had my switch in a variety of scenarios and still haven’t experienced. you keep throwing around the powerline and mesh wifi words, why don’t you realize you have a nonstandard network setup and get something more traditional? did you also know the switch can support usb network adapters? no wifi needed. also i looked up the wifi issues and the only articles are from 2 years ago. switch bands, remove powerline, get a non-crap router, quit using mesh networks. i bet your problems go away

Re: It’s Official: The Switch Online Service Has Surpassed 10 Million Subscribers
