Re: Nintendo's "Illegal" Pre-Order System Issue Has Been Passed On To German Authorities

@BlueOcean really? we can’t say cancer now? why don’t we just stop speaking all together, it’s easier than removing every word that offends some group. These restrictions on language have gone too far these days, apparently lots of people have forgotten the oppression caused by controlled speech and would rather instead not offend someone thin skinned by saying “cancer”. And yes both of my parents had cancer at one point.

Re: GameStop Reveals That Switch Sales Doubled In The Week After E3

@GKO900 in games like splatoon you’re going to be second to players with joycons, as it’s faster to move a single paddle for looking than moving the pro controller or using the stick. the pro controller is great for platformers or non-motion control games, the joycons are great for motion control games so i switch between them. if they are too small then buy silicon covers to thicken them up. having used both for some time now i actually prefer joycons even though i don’t like the sticks and think the buttons are a bit on the small size, however theyre lightweight and increase my accuracy substantially over the pro controller. imo you’re missing the main feature of the switch when you write off joycons in favor of traditional controllers. in short, it if weren’t for the joycons my switch would be doomed to the life my xbox lives, which hasn’t been even plugged in or powered on except for maybe 3 times in its life, it makes it too much like the other consoles just with different games.

Re: Exploring The Legalities Of Sony's Fortnite Restrictions On Nintendo Switch

tekknik

@Agramonte yea it only takes spending $200 once on a game, then having that game locked to a platform to piss off your customers, kinda like you’re seeing now. not to mention the ps4 is not innovative. you seem like you’ll be surprised by sony’s eventual position. this will not continue, mark my words. game devs already finding ways to bring this to court for monopolistic pratices.

Re: Exploring The Legalities Of Sony's Fortnite Restrictions On Nintendo Switch

tekknik

@DarthFoxMcCloud most of this legalese is just them saying “no you don’t own the models, textures, code etc of these assets, that’s not what we’re selling you, we’re in fact selling you only access to these items.” unfortunately game companies have to cover there arses in a lot of stupid ways these days to keep people from suing them

Re: Nintendo Takes A Swipe At Sony Over Fortnite's Cross-Platform Issues On Switch

tekknik

@greengecko007 again, who cares what they want? it’s a free market and we all get screwed by crap like this. i’m definitely not spending my money to give a company what they want, they should earn it. and since sony is the only one doing this, it’s hard to not point the finger and it’s also easy for them to stop the finger pointing. i have a ps4, xbox and switch. of the 3 the ps4 is definitely my least favorite, what is different about it over the ps3? a touchpad? wooo..... same with the xbox one. all either console manufacturer did was add more power. graphics don’t make the game more fun, this has always been true and always will.

Re: Nintendo Takes A Swipe At Sony Over Fortnite's Cross-Platform Issues On Switch

tekknik

@greengecko007 except there’s no technical reason for this, especially in the case of fortnite since unreal engine makes multi platform easy. so “it just doesn’t work this way” is some business puke saying “no”. and as consumers we don’t have to accept it if we don’t like it. sony should focus on making the console innovative so people want to buy it, not because they have to in order to stay socially relevant in the gaming communities.

Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Has No Online Multiplayer On Switch And It's Unreal Engine 4's Fault

tekknik

@GumbyX84 what mode needs to be created? I am an unreal engine dev, none of this makes sense. networking in unreal is called replication. you run the unreal server and connect a client to it, flag your variables and functions as replicated and call things correctly. that’s the extent of things on unreal’s side. if they’re complaining about having to run servers then welcome to game dev

Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Has No Online Multiplayer On Switch And It's Unreal Engine 4's Fault

tekknik

@roadrunner343 except their engine of choice does support network on the switch: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/launch-your-game-on-the-nintendo-switch-with-unreal-engine-4-16

“After launching early support for Nintendo Switch development in February’s Unreal Engine 4.15 release, Epic is proud to announce fully-featured native support for the popular platform in Unreal Engine 4.16.”

Re: All-Star Fruit Racing Has No Online Multiplayer On Switch And It's Unreal Engine 4's Fault

tekknik

something doesn’t make sense here. they don’t really give a reason why except “no switch ue4 titles use the net”. ue4 definitely has network support for the switch, it’s a full featured platform as per epic. also given their first blurb, about having to write in the multiplayer support after launch, this means they screwed up. you always always always start with multiplayer when writing an unreal game. if not, you end up in a situation where it’s “rewrite all the things” because now you have to make all your functions call the server instead of the local client. this sounds like their screw up and not epics. also if fortnite rumors are true then it has network support

Re: Ubisoft CEO Believes The Next Generation Of Consoles Will Be The Last

tekknik

@mateq coming from a small indie shop (2 peeps) we can’t afford to rent amazon gpu instances to run the game for users. will this get cheaper? maybe but i still doubt an indie shop will be able to charge a flat $15-$20 for a game, those gpu instances cost 10x this per month. i can see the large companies lining this, they can afford a data center to host their games and it will give them more control. instead of owning games you’ll now rent them on a monthly basis so they can control the supply better. refunds? no more. steam is also dead, why would i pay them 30% and still have to host my game? i see this being a win for big studios and a huge loss for everybody else

Re: Nintendo Share Drop Due To Concerns Over E3 And Switch Online Services, Claim Analysts

tekknik

@KingdomHeartsFan actually depending on where you get the readings from will depend on the number you get, and some most definitely say 15mil on the low side. i chose to give you the benefit of the doubt and post a more trusted source. but let’s not forget in both cases you were wrong. also i could really care less if you believe me, you’re obviously not an investor and those that are will do exactly what i said because it’s the standard.

Re: Nintendo Share Drop Due To Concerns Over E3 And Switch Online Services, Claim Analysts

tekknik

@KingdomHeartsFan The estimate on xbox one sales is 30 mil in the high side, so not 30-40 mil: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_game_consoles if the wiki is wrong update but that number stands as the current acceptable quantity sold. also if you don’t care about the switch being on pace to outsell the ps4 then you don’t know how stock analysis works, it’s very important to recognize potential sales when trying to predict the future price of an asset. if you want to chose to keep your little anti-nintendo attitude then by all means go for it.
