Re: Creator Of New Checkout Bot Targeting Online Switch Stock Discusses Backlash

tekknik

@SwitchForce the code for said bot is freely available on github, so if you’re capable it’s right there for you to grab and run yourself.

also please tell me of a way to stop paying for things like social security. i don’t believe in the program and by the time i retire it likely won’t be there anyway but as they’re taking my money you best believe i’m going to get every dime back that i can.

Re: Creator Of New Checkout Bot Targeting Online Switch Stock Discusses Backlash

tekknik

@DeathByLasagna i absolutely whole heart disagree that a programmer should even bat an eyelash at how someone uses their program. essentially what you’re saying is the creator or author should be responsible for others actions and that’s a very dangerous and slippery slope.

Also just as a note this bot isn’t even using any sort of API, it’s scraping sites what what I can tell.

Re: One Month Later, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Review-Bombing Is Only Getting Worse

tekknik

I’m not particularly enjoying the game. It’s not as bad as zero but in my book it’s not a 10 either for all the reasons people keep listing. One particularly frustrating issue is that Nintendo doesn’t allow me to play the same island on two switches, I’ve spent $500 on consoles Nintendo, please reward me by seamlessly transferring saves so I can just pick up one and go.

Re: Create Your Own Games On Switch With SmileBASIC 4, Available Next Week

tekknik

@mystman12 one of my first languages was QuickBASIC. it was definitely a good language to learn for someone who had no clue about computers but I had the same experience and had to unlearn quite a few things. I’m not saying BASIC dialects are bad first languages, I just feel that there are better. Python being a great candidate. After BASIC is from a time when there was no Python and it was the best solution for a simple programming language.

Re: Create Your Own Games On Switch With SmileBASIC 4, Available Next Week

tekknik

@nessisonett there’s a few production games using python. i know eve online is/was using stackless python at one point. don’t use it for gfx code but there’s nothing wrong with scripting game logic in it. BASIC is cool but you’ll never see it in the real world these days unless you happen to be the unlucky soul porting a VB app. my point was more around industry adoption, of which BASIC has none. A kid writing toy games in python can directly translate those skills into a job both in and out of the gaming industry. BASIC not so much.

Re: China Bans Sales Of Animal Crossing: New Horizons In Suspected Censorship Scuffle

tekknik

@Zuljaras it has nothing to do with china being wealthy (Id also like to know why you believe china runs the world economy, but unrelated). who’s ready for another world war? i’m sure not, and until we can get china to step down their communist gov peacefully war will be required. even if we get every country in the world to confront them they will require military intervention and force to change. and to be clear, this will be an extremely bloody war

Re: Switch Stock Shortage Is Pushing Buyers Towards PS4 and Xbox One, Claims Retailer

tekknik

@Shade_Koopa this outbreak has surfaced glaring problems with everything being made in china. you will most definitely see changes. There’s an article floating around about a US company that makes medical face masks and isn’t running production at 100% because as soon as the crisis is over they’ll run the risk of bankruptcy. Since they’re critical they’re asking for permanent contracts from the US gov since they can’t compete with china on price (due to human rights violations). I don’t look to see a switch made in the US anytime soon but I definitely see china being dethroned as the manufacturing superpower as a result of this and manufacturing to be more spread out in the future.

Re: New Kickstarter RPG Promises To Make Use Of Switch Joy-Con's IR Camera

tekknik

Isn’t the depth sensor currently used for motion? I know it’s supposed to do more but I thought this was the primary purpose of the depth sensor.

Now that we’re here, why didn’t the switch include a normal camera on the back? Exchanging friend codes is a PITA, with a camera we could at least scan a QR code. And if the depth sensor works like a normal camera then how come we can’t use it to scan a friend code?

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Has "A Ton Of Respect" For Nintendo, But Is Over Rumours About Select Titles Coming To Switch

tekknik

@sixrings a quick note, most of the best selling games of all time have been on PC. I’ve not heard of any console game making an indie dev a billionaire.

there are other considerations for why nintendo doesn’t have proper voice chat in game, the console is for kids. not a lot of parents want their kid talking to strangers on the internet. the rest of what xbox does is so basic there are companies that exist to do the same thing on pc. what about steam? an entire graphics library exists because of them. their matchmaking services exist for all devs to use as well. and the workshop? xbox still doesn’t have modding. really what you should be praising microsoft for is cross platform. that is, imo, all theyve done worth notice these days. let’s not even get into the numbers, there are still more PC gamers worldwide than console. if you’re focusing entirely on xbox thinking “gee they’re innovative” then you’ve missed a massive chunk of the industry doing more interesting things

Re: Xbox's Phil Spencer Has "A Ton Of Respect" For Nintendo, But Is Over Rumours About Select Titles Coming To Switch

tekknik

@sixrings i wouldn’t call games with gold or game pass innovative. the first being your typical supermarket savings program and the latter just being a sub for games. these are more business innovations than gaming as they steady the revenue stream out. i also don’t see how you can credit them with inventing chat, it was here long before xbox and team speak / ventrillo definitely beat them too it. the one thing you listed that is actually innovative is the adaptive controller but even this seems like a marketing stunt

Re: Ninjala Will Be Free-To-Play When It Launches Worldwide This May

tekknik

@Vepra conversely, prior to f2p these items would be unlockable, greatly extending gameplay. it wasn’t until f2p became more widely used that the argument that devs can’t make money without it. in theory it’s great, try the game out and only spend money if you want but in practice the psychological factor almost forces people to pay. i personally would personally rather drop $60, or even $80 and have no micro transactions with a bunch of unlockables.

I will be skipping this game myself, at least until i watch some streamers or videos and it looks interesting to me then. As it stands now, categorizing splatoon 2 and fortnite as the same type of game means they have missed what made splatoon great (not being yet another shooter). I’m not interesting in yet another BR or shooter, it’s time for innovation and cute isn’t innovative

Re: Nintendo Of America Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

tekknik

@Heavyarms55 I stopped reading before the end of the first paragraph. You have become ridiculous, now asserting that people cannot speak negatively about Japan without bringing up WW2. I could’ve seen this coming given then careless use of the racism word. Here’s someone that is Japanese saying exactly the same thing as me: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22605657

You want to talk about racist, when I was in the US military and visited Japan a good chunk of the stores in Sasebo area wouldn’t serve us because of the color of our skin. We were dehydrated from walking around in the sun all day an a gas station wouldn’t even sell us water. This is racism. Your country. Saying the Olympics should be canceled is not. Saying the Japanese are greedy like the rest of us is not.

Re: Nintendo Of America Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

tekknik

@Heavyarms55 People on the board are getting concerned it’s not canceled yet. People around the world are getting concerned it’s not canceled yet. You called me a racist then stated the exact thing, that it costs too much to just cancel. Then there’s the money made from it that will be lost. Do yourself a favor and stop throwing the racist card around when someone doesn’t agree with what your country does. It doesn’t matter who’s hosting it, it needs to be canceled (see how that’s not racism?!?!)

Re: Nintendo Of America Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

tekknik

@Heavyarms55 I think your definition of racism is incorrect, or any statement of how bad the US handle the situation is anti-US racism. Your pick. Either way how come it hasn’t been canceled yet or even postponed if they aren’t concerned with losing the money/bid? People are concerned it’s not canceled yet and Japan still pushes forward with it.

Re: Nintendo Of America Employee Tests Positive For COVID-19

tekknik

@Heavyarms55 where are you getting your info from? US has 3x the population of Japan. Confirmed cases are at 2400 and 600 respectively. That’s pretty close on per capita infections with the US. Further many believe Japan is attempting to downplay it because of that Olympics money.

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Outsold The Mighty PlayStation 3 In Japan

tekknik

@Crono1973 absolutely not. personal validation of the purchase comes from using and enjoying the device. not a single person here cares what others think of their purchase, if we did don’t you think we would’ve bailed out when game devs started with the “underpowered” crap?

it’s interesting that you think this though, it suggests that this is what you care about, and only purchase systems based on acceptance of the market. further the news of a nintendo product outselling a sony product upset you enough to speak out about it here, which suggests fanboyism since no rational person should react negatively to this kind of news unless they have some money at stake.

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Outsold The Mighty PlayStation 3 In Japan

tekknik

@Crono1973 because the Wii U sold like a stale canned fart and for Nintendo’s business continuity it needs to sell well, two failed “home” game consoles in a row would spell doom for them. So yes, it is a validation thing, market validation.

Not to mention all the game devs ignoring it because of it being “underpowered”. With it outselling “powerful” systems game devs can’t rationally ignore it
