Re: Round Up: All The Games From The Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase - September 2020

@dugan you’re right! They definitely led us to believe that Ori wasn’t coming for a long time if at all...so this was a big surprise! Especially since it came out on Xbox so recently.

I’m actually stoked for Fitness Boxing 2, to accompany my Ring Fitting. My massage therapist has been playing FB1 and said it’s such a good workout for body and brain bc it has you doing the same routine on both sides of your body...great for strength and for combatting Alzheimer’s even:)

Love SOR4 so much. I went back and played the ogs and after being used to 4, they just can’t touch it! Tho of course they’ll always have a place in my heart.

@WhiteTrashGuy I’m rooting for Golden Ax! Tho Shinobi would be amazing too.

@durr it seems like they made the last boss fights quite a bit tougher tho. You can always play on the hardest difficulties! I beat hard but not sure I’m ready for the next 2.

I was I intrigued after the Indie Direct, looked up a couple reviews of the PC version and found the same glowing praise— downloaded it immediately— just waiting to beat Paper Mario first. I’m so incredibly stoked to check it out. Seems right up my alley. I have a feeling I will agree with the 10/10. Thanks for such a well written/creative review.

@Kalmaro Alright I gave this guy a listen, and I appreciate the differing view - I like to stay open best I can!, but here's where I can't get into him (just basing off of this one video) - his high intensity hyperbole over things that aren't as big of a deal as he makes them seem. He said the liberals/dems are in a state of extreme paranoia, when he himself overreacts to the point of wanting to move away from NJ over the bill mandating that all residents have the option to vote by mail. He reads twice that everyone can still vote in person..why does he feel so attacked and infuriated - and why is Trump suing over this? Again, there really isn't much evidence of vote by mail fraud - https://news.yahoo.com/judge-asked-trumps-lawyers-prove-214605614.html Oregon has done it forever. Odd how Trump himself votes by mail, and is encouraging Florida to do so? https://apnews.com/19ade6dafb5b6f82f324e4be9b12a7a0
Even weirder - voters encouraged to do absentee votes with a picture of his face and a tweet on it? https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/16/politics/postal-service-trump-absentee-ballot-request-mail-usps/index.html

Taking away mail boxes really isn't going to save USPS much time, I mean they're on the carriers routes anyway. I think they provide an important service that has to be regulated by our govt which is good in my opinion, though I'm really not down with private companies taking over everything in general, and am pretty down on the capitalist directive as a whole - as it requires extreme imbalances of power/wealth, and assumes a concept of infinite growth inherently, which is impossible, and unnecessary - you know what I mean!? Like why is it that company's need to grow every year to be successful? I worked at Whole Foods before they sold, and they were still making year over year profit, but all the analysts and market said was they were doing poorly and had to sell.. just sucks that this is the way our country is run.
I really encourage you to look into this if you want to know why USPS is not 'profitable' - it's not due to ineptitude. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2018-04-04/congress-not-amazon-messed-up-the-u-s-postal-service the top two articles here are short and worth a read. And DeJoy is backing down now because people called him out.

And as for the military, yea it's like you said, just for certain people -private sectors, but in reality it's a huge (and mostly unnecessary expense on taxpayers) - check this out https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/05/28/us-deficit-military-spending-budget-bring-home-troops/ (not a liberal angle either).

Anyway I appreciate your openness and willingness. I usually don't get into political conversations online, (especially in our beloved Nintendolife), because people get so one sided and heated. It's really important to stay open and flexible as there is so much misinformation and opinion floating around. I'll definitely look forward to your further thoughts if you want to share more. peace!

Re: Soapbox: We've Reached The Point-Of-No-Return In This Nindie Love Affair

neogyo

I completely agree, and appreciate the positive article! There wasn’t one game in this showcase that bummed me out, and at least 4 I want to get. Really stoked for A Short Hike and Spiritfarer - which I think is fully worth the $30. I’ve seen some people bemoaning that price tag, but like you said, you spent $70 on way worse way shorter crap back in the day. Perhaps this leads to my one negative (positive?) thing I feel I gotta point out— we are spoiled with game prices these days! We really shouldn’t complain when a well made indie costs more than $15, something I see all too often. Supporting these teams is important, the work they put in is mega, and again- we used to pay way more for way shorter and crappier games!

Long live the Nindie support!

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Is Getting Its Own Direct In China Tomorrow

@Kalmaro indeed I hear ya

Though I will argue that voting by mail is really the best way to do it. It’s how Oregon has done it forever. It makes it so easy for everyone to participate, and there is actually very little room for error/fraud. Tho of course examples can be found. There are Just as many examples or more of voting machine tomfoolery.

I never like how policies are snuck into bills it always feels shady. That said, I Do support the idea of bailing out the USPS as it’s a public service that is important to maintain. The republican argument is that It’s not profitable, But that shouldn’t matter. Its not meant to be for profit, I mean is the military profitable? How much money do we throw there. Or how much do we spend to bail out banks who perpetrate crimes (looking at you Obama) Also they actually were profitable until Republicans passed a bill requiring them to put aside pay for future employees in 2006- check into that..

And yea it’s not Trump doing but it is the guy he appointed as head postmaster. Look into DeJoy, he’s fired top USPS employees along w these removals of sorting machines and boxes Happening in many places- really don’t see why they’d be replacing them. I know of some in my city that are missing so I’ll keep an eye out for the shiny new ones tho! DeJoy is heavily invested in other mail carrying companies... again it’s all money related. And Trump really doesn’t want everyone to have a fair shot at voting because he would most likely lose. So they’re a perfect partnership right now.

Anyways none of this is fun

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Is Getting Its Own Direct In China Tomorrow

@Kalmaro I hear ya, this stuff can be overlooked , but unfortunately I’m seeing a lot of it firsthand in Portland OR. We’ve got many white supremacist antagonizers that love coming into downtown and causing trouble - very much in the Neo fascism wing of thinking. As for voter suppression, it’s been happening for a long time especially targeting African American communities lots of data on this but here’s one place to look - https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theatlantic.com/amp/article/565355/
And currently the president is actively removing sorting machines and mail drop off boxes quite literally, just as one part of a multi pronged attack on the USPS - https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.oregonlive.com/news/2020/08/usps-removes-mailboxes-in-portland-and-eugene-cites-declining-mail-volume.html%3foutputType=amp

And constant corruption is all just part of the operation , Republican or Democrat. Nothing new about it, but our current leader is really overt with his tactics.. plenty of examples to look up especially in regards to corporate interests investments into shaping policies.

But I’m still optimistic!

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Is Getting Its Own Direct In China Tomorrow

neogyo

@Alztru definitely! Last time I played I checked and saw someone at World 80 or something so it definitely keeps going. Tho I will point out some negatives to be fair—

The story is whatever, same w all the NPCs tho I like the villain. Much of the scenery/courses repeat themselves. But that’s not why you’re playing the game so it doesn’t really matter to me:)

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Is Getting Its Own Direct In China Tomorrow

neogyo

@DoktorTotenKopf @kalmaro
Well yea pretty much all that stuff the Doktor said is true except the riots every day thing. All of the ugliness of this country is showing itself. But we’re not a desolate wasteland yet. For all the bad actors/idiots there are way more people with good hearts/intelligence. We have to keep believing in positive change and work for it too! (Agape)Love is an action

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Is Getting Its Own Direct In China Tomorrow

neogyo

@Alztru I can recommend whole heartedly. I’ve been loving it. I’ve played it about 22 days (taking some off here and there). So far there is a ton of content. I’m in world 8, but I’ve seen people up to world 50 something in the rankings So I still don’t know how many there are.. but the worlds are big, so estimating going at my rate it’d take about 130 days of playing to get to world 50!? Then there are all of the mini games which are fun and plenty. The rhythm game mode is pretty cool tho not huge. Also you can make your own custom workouts based on the exercise “skills” you’ve unlocked - which would give endless potential bc you’re just doing the workouts. Also there’s a mode where you can just work your arms out while doing whatever while the switch is in sleep mode which is just a lil bonus to earn extra items and exp (and muscles!).

I’m a skinny guy but I’ve had a lot of body pain as my supporting/smaller muscles haven’t been strong enough which leads to overusing big muscle groups. Ring fit has really given me a lot of muscle build up which is helping my posture and everything. Also my mood.

Plus the game is just fun and so upbeat! Not a perfect game by any means but as a workout experience it’s awesome. Hope that helps haha

Re: Surprise! Spiritfarer Launches On Nintendo Switch Today

neogyo

I just went thru a major death experience in my life. Lost my love after helping her fight thru sickness and debilitation. This game seems to be coming at a perfect time for me.

From what I can tell so far, I think the way they are exploring death in this game is healthy and important. I feel like we could all benefit from having healthy representations of passing on. And supporting each other to the other side. We are so comfortable with violence, yet so afraid to acknowledge the inevitable. The best we can do is love each moment we have together and truly bring meaning to our time that we have.

Re: Soapbox: After Paper Mario: The Origami King, I Want More Comedy On Switch, Please

neogyo

@Deltath I was wondering the same thing... second playthrough!? I also do think the battle system is super creative and constantly changing. Unlike many rpgs where you can just hit A over and over.

That said I dig this article and couldn’t agree more in that comedy is so important. I would love to see more games implementing it as a focus. A new Wario Ware is much needed right now...

Also I highly recommend Heave Ho! Especially for 3-4 player times. It’s had my friends and I legitimately rolling on the ground laughing!

Re: Nintendo Is "A Jewel" In The Industry And Has The Best First-Party Pedigree, Says Xbox Boss

neogyo

@Bret + @RPGamer sometimes you just say things as an absolute that can come off entitled or ignorant and that’s how that came off so there it is. All of this is personal opinion conjecture mind you, and feelings change.

That said, why I don’t like the idea of it coming to Switch is bc I personally don’t feel that Microsoft’s game library fits with Nintendo. I don’t like it. I don’t see how it makes sense. Though admittedly more and more these genres and types of games are being dropped on Switch with way less quality than Xbox first party titles, so there’s no avoiding the ultra violence, same ol same bs these days. That said , I also just think it’d be better all around for competition and such to have them keep doing their own thing. Anddd I’m resistant to subscription services. So there’s some of my personal reasons for not wanting game pass on switch. I’m not gonna stop anyone else from wanting it.

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says "It's A Necessity" To Change The Combat System In Every Entry

neogyo

I don’t have any problem with the battle system, I’m only about to beat world 2 but so far I’m not bored at all. I’m 36 and have played my fair share of RPGs and I gotta say, I was disappointed at first abt the lack of exp/traditional stuff , but when it’s come down to it I really appreciate that they are trying something new. Almost every battle feels different bc of how they switch up placements and enemies. And the boss battles are some of the most challenging I’ve found in any recent nintendo game.
