I missed the Xenoblade theme, so I'm definitely picking this one up! The themes so far have been so creative and cool! I hope they keep this up. I've completely fallen in love with the Splatoon 2 Theme.
Love these theme events. Though I wish they had been a little more creative with this one, since it's basically just the box art.
I'm smelling all sorts of attempts at distractions. We have some Lego, some random splatfest, and another Tetris event. Personally I'm waiting for a direct.
Most of these special themes have been pretty lame so far, but I have enjoyed a few of them.
So timely!!!! Will get this for sure!!!!
@sixrings I know, right? It's not like they'd plan this event to coincide with the release of a high-profile game in a long-running series, like they have with a bunch of other high-profile Switch releases.
@Reigestugatensho You can do daily challenges to unlock any locked theme.
I have 100% of all event themes, and only miss 4 x 15 point ones to have all theme's ever in Tetris 99.
Getting this Paper Mario one during event as it's far less grindy than doing 3-4 daily challenges for 10 days in a row.
@Ventilator It hasn't been updated with later ones, the most recent event theme purchasable with challenge tickets was the Super Kirby Clash one.
I hope they get around to doing a Metroid one.
I missed the Xenoblade one as my NSO subscription expired last May, just after I got the Animal Crossing NH. This one’s quite tempting.
I try to get each new theme; but honestly, I am usually only playing T99 when there is a new theme.
Still, awesome game!
@Ventilator You can get the theme in one match, if you're good.
Cool! Love the themes, looking forward to earning this one!
Don't get me wrong, I love these events and the themes are great, but part of me wishes they will go back to having the odd competition with the gold coin prizes.
@jsw-8 I'm guess it got too expensive, the prizes were basically £10 to spend in the eShop. I liked the competitions too, I won points in three of them!
@BulkSlash ah lucky you! I won one of the prizes on the 2nd or 3rd one but nothing since.
I get what you mean about the money. Especially for a free game.
Awesome! Can't get enough of this game.
@sanderev Yes. 1 match if you become #1. 100 points.
@Grumblevolcano They will be patched in probably sometime this year then.
The event ones i unlocked is Xenoblade, Ring Fit, Kirby, Luigi's Mansion 3, Gameboy 1990, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Splatoon 2. Thats 9 Event themes. 10th on friday.
Then there is Donkey Kong, Super Mario and Zelda.
Then 6 non game related themes, and 1 default theme.
I Missed quite a few events, so I was forced to grind everyday for around a month and unlocked every theme that I missed. But still lacking the Pokémon one. Hope Nintendo will make it unlockable soon, after all, I still have extra tickets to spare...
May go for this theme for the music alone.
Great, will be good to put a fews rounds in on this for the theme...
@Ventilator I will have to try that, thanks for the advice!
@Reigestugatensho No problem. Free version of Tetris 99 have 2 challenges. If you bought offline modes, you get a total of 4 challenges daily.
The offline challenges is very easy. Play one match vs CPU. Play 3 matches vs CPU. Reach top 20 on CPU battle. (Getting 1st place can be done "blindfolded" on easy. Then there is usually some easy Marathon challenges.
T-Spins is the only "hard" challenges.
If you are bored of Tetris 99 now and then. Doing number of CPU Battles. Just fast drop all bricks right away and lose. Challenge done.
New challenges is added daily at 00:00 in Central Europe.
Yes,,, I’ve been loving the Origami King. And I love Tetris 99. Keep the themes coming!
The LEGO nes went live 15 min ago on legos site if anyone cares.
i looooove the Animal Crossing theme. they should go to their back catalog and do other themes... not just the new releases
I got it in a hour yesterday to late nintendolife.
5 matches and done!
I think most of the themes feel pretty low effort tbh. But the classic GameBoy one is great.
Only here for the “NinTeNdO DIrEcT” comments ... and sure enough 🤦🏼♂️
@popey1980 Honestly, I just wish the intern who does these themes would also just give me the Switch logo on black as an option for my account picture. And make the dark theme really black while at it.
That would make me much more happy then anything else. And the effort is almost zero.
I'll be honest the only theme I bothered to unlock was the splatoon one. The game doesn't hold my interest enough to get themes. And now that I already missed a ton it won't feel complete and I have even less drive to play.
Punishing game. I'm happy with the Game boy tetris skin from way back. A lot of the latter skin events relate to games that don't appeal to me. Still love Tetris on the rare occasions.
Not a huge fan of most of the themes, since all they do is grab some simple artwork from X game and a music track. I kinda wish they made some special illustrations or something.
Thank you for the reminder!
@Yosher all the themes are unlockable with tickets (which you get by playing), so you can’t really “miss” any of them. 😉
Of course, participating in these events is actually the lazy easy way to unlock them, since buying them with tickets would take several days of doing daily tasks... Instead of playing 20 minutes one single day.
@Eel Huh. I really thought they were event exclusive. See knowing this, I might actually play this game again on occasion! Thanks very much for the info!
"Once you've done this, you'll unlock a one-of-a-kind in-game theme featuring art, music and Tetrimino designs inspired by Paper Mario: The Origami King."
Sorry, but I dont find those Tetriminios inspired by anything than tetris.
Speaking of The Origami King, will there be spirits based on this game in Ultimate?
