It is kind of a shame, that's true enough. But it's also kind of a shame I can't still buy a 3DS or 3DS games brand new, or for that matter an N64.
Things come, things go, get them whilst you can I guess is the message. I'm fortunate enough to have gotten the things I wanted from this, and whilst I shall miss Super Mario 35, I hope that it gives them the taste to do something else in a similar vein very soon.
I do wish that Nintendo would have SOME sort of quality control for the eShop, it would mean not having to wade through quagmires of rubbish like this to find anything decent.
"Throw those same games over to a full-sized screen with an arcade stick, and suddenly they are a great deal more manageable".
Good luck finding the 'R3' button (ie pushing down on the right stick) on any arcade stick for putting a coin in the slot. An almost unforgivable oversight. I'm pretty sure you can remap but GRRRR.
Having played it on PS3 years and years ago, I recently picked up Burnout Paradise for the pre-sale price - at £12.50 that's a total bargain and well worth it if you haven't played it for a while and can't/don't want to play on any other system.
I've never played Among Us. For less than £3 will give it a go.
Anyone got any recommendations from the current sale pile? The recommendations on this page are just the same as the ones on the eshop front page (shop on PC for the win instead of the horrible eshop on the Switch!)
@VR32X wow - that's a terrible design choice. Clicking the sticks in should be an absolute last resort anyway for a dev who has totally run out of input buttons - inexcusable here and really annoying for those who want to play with an arcade stick. Grr.
I've played through the whole game, which was diverting enough, but ultimately it felt a bit like another one of the Streetpass games (oh Streetpass, I genuinely miss you so), just a bit longer.
There are no end of 3DS games I'd rather see. But I'll never have time to play all the games I want to anyway, so I won't worry about it too much when things I released I'm not bothered about...
Got the posting confirmation from the Nintendo online shop this morning, so fingers crossed that this (and the plush Bowser I inexplicably ordered with it) arrives tomorrow
I remember people playing the original board game at school 30 years ago. It always looked such a pretty game, with its lovely big board, colourful endzone banners and all the figures, but the rules seemed positively Byzantine in their complexity.
@heavyarms55 a fair question. I would feel the same about classic ANYTHING if people had paid this sort of markup for it. I totally get why people want these things, but it just seems a little crude to dump SO much money on something like this - it feels a little bit 'just because I can'.
As I said - it's totally their choice what they do with it, they don't - and shouldn't - care what I think.
Everyone knows the best music from SMW is the ending theme. Check out this AMAZING video of a chap sightreading (as in hasn't seen the music before, or heard it) the music on the piano, absolutely amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9IkpUYlOx8
I've got makeup bags (that my wife doesn't use anymore) full of GB, GBA, DS and 3DS carts. I've still got wallets full of GC and Wii games. A total reaching well into triple figures. I ditched all the boxes because I don't have infinite space.
But do I actually use all of them? Not even remotely, even though I still have the kit for it. I've dumped all the ROMs and just run them off USBs or flashcarts or whatever (naughty me) on Wii or 3DS.
I don't see myself selling the games, but equally hardly see me needing the carts ever again. Hoarder!
It was so sad to see the fall of Molyneaeuaueuaux. Him and the Bullfrog team were at the absolute forefront of gaming in the 90s, totally knocking it out of the park with games like Populous, Syndicate, Theme Park and Hospital - even with Lionhead he produced some excellent stuff in Black and White and Fable (even if not totally delivering on ALL the promises). With 22 Cans and stuff the bottom just dropped out, it's sad to see how it went.
@rupeeclock Ordering through Nintendo UK I was also able to choose from some other random giveaway tat so I got the Paper Mario Origami set too for free.
I pre-ordered yesterday - and I've just been notified that my order has been upgraded to a steelbook edition (looks quite like game packaging so different design to this one).
Absolutely love the 3DS, one of my favourite consoles. I've only ever had XL versions having liked the original DS XL, and it makes reading the text easier for my aging eyes! Started off with a nice red 3DS XL (I remember taking a few 3D pics at the London Olympics with it!), got a blue New 3DS XL, left that on a plane, now I've got the SNES, Animal Crossing HHD and another blue New 3DS XL (in varying states of softmoddedness) and a bag full of brilliant games.
As tremendous as the Switch is, I'm sad to see the 3DS finally dying - hopefully mine won't for some time though!
Certainly a feature on the best arcade sticks to use on the Switch would be useful too? There are plenty of options and the new Hori Switch stick is coming out too. I use the Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro (a nice bit of kit in its own right, especially with Hylo hack on it) with Seimatsu parts swapped in and running through MAGIC-NS. Having a weighty, clicky joystick and solid buttons really improves the experience for some of these games.
Really appreciate articles like this to cut through all the dross. 74 pages of sale stuff on the eshop online (on PC, not via the Switch) - total headache! And why do they make it so hard to find your wishlist?!
Surely loses something for not being 2 player when so many good Capcom arcade games are 2 player - maybe there's a way a USB controller can go in there. Lineup is pretty rubbish though, odd decision!
For less than this price, you could get a Neo Geo Arcade Stick Pro, apply the hylohack (easily findable) and then you've got a fabulous games system. Get the MAGIC-NS adaptor and you've got a great arcade stick for other systems too!
If I hadn't already got the Neo Geo arcade stick pro with the MAGIC-NS adaptor to make it work on Switch, I'd be on this in an instant. I do love the feel of an arcade stick - though I don't think it makes me better at anything, simply because I'm not very good at fighting games or shooters!
Played through once on PC some time ago, but for this obscene price will be happy to play through on a big TV too - I recall some of the puzzles being slightly annoying but some of the big set pieces and creature encounters were wonderful.
Once I block out that I've just paid £50 for SMB, I'm totally loving this. It's almost a bit too small for my big hands and old eyes, but still think that this is a fine little piece of kit.
I totally love how the packaging has been arranged to change from SMB into Ball once you slip the plastic off too, really nicely thought out!
Hopefully they'll indicate it can be patched via the USB cable - which might then mean there's the capability for some clever people to work out how to play around and change the content on it.
I felt a bit ill watching the live feed on the videos, so it doesn't hugely surprise me that this causes motion sickness IRL too. Makes it an easy pass, but I'm glad that it's fun and achieves what it sets out to do.
If Nintendo is not seen to actively protect its IP, that very IP and trademarks etc starts to drift into the public domain and Nintendo could genuinely lose control of their trademarks and copyrights. Which is obviously bad for them. So they almost have to do it, regardless of how they actually feel about the content.
Excellent review, calling out EA for this utterly shoddy and contemptuous display for Switch owners. This game should be killed with fire. We can see what developers are capable of on the Switch when they put effort in - there are a LOT of good examples - I can't see a game like this putting too much strain on the system if they actually bothered to optimise it for the Switch!
Seriously, just give us a port of the Amiga version of Sensible Soccer (or SWOS).
It's a fun premise, but I think best in smaller doses. As the article says, Fire Flower is king here - as long as you can clear carpetfulls of enemies once you've been playing for a bit you'll be ok - I'm not a great SMB player but managed to win 1 match out of 5. In general I've died more due to poor jumping ability and falling into pits than being taken out by baddies!
I have a real soft spot for this game. It could be because it was the first Mario I played quite a bit, but I think it's a really enjoyable game.
It gets a lot of flak for having a slightly different control feel to SMB, and also for the 2-3/4-3 shooter levels - but I like that it really mixes things up a lot. There's a considerable variety in world design - you get this curious pattern of 2 levels and then the third level being a little different each time - and the music is highly enjoyable too. It's short, but in doing so, nothing outstays its welcome for long, and it means that if you want to hop into the New Game+ on your second time around you've probably still got time to complete that before the batteries die on you.
It's right at home on its original hardware (or any other handheld that's either natively running or emulating GB games), but it still looks very acceptable playing on a big screen too - which also shows up a fair bit of detail in the graphics that might otherwise be missed.
This is definitely in need of a mouse - or a large touch screen - to really enjoy to its fullest potential. The RCT games really are great but not sure the Switch is a good fit. As others have set, get yourself to the Epic Store this week to pick it up for free on PC.
I'd bet a whole £1 that this wasn't the actual reason of the name change. I expect that the Monster legal team, when they're not desperately trying to deal with their own guilt for working on a ridiculous caffeine drink, send the same letter to every single company that wants to use the word... but any decent court would throw that rubbish sort of case out, given the word predates the drink by a few thousand years and it's used in such a ubiquitous manner.
Rather, someone on the creative team just though that Gods & Monsters sounded like too generic a game title... which it does.
Really wish Nintendo would give us more Pro Controller options. In a way I'm slightly amazed they have never done an Animal Crossing version themselves, or will do something for Mario's 35th. Could do with another Pro controller, but probably just going to buy a black one and some different coloured grips and swap them out.
@Skeletor1979 Totally agree with what you're saying. Essentially, you reach a point with the downloadable stuff that once the servers are shut off, your only choice is to hack your console and download. If you're so inclined, WiiWare is a pretty easy thing to manage, DSiWare is a bit more of a pain.
@Skeletor1979 In 10 or 15 years time, when Nintendo have stopped supporting the Switch, I can't imagine it'll be too tricky to get hold of software you can no longer download for it and make it work - as with every other Nintendo console in the past.
@PewnyPL sadly, 1 player per Switch console: "Friends and family can also get together and enjoy multiplayer races for up to four players, so long as each player has their own Kart, Nintendo Switch console and a copy of the software."

Surprisingly bizarre choice.

I've never played this before, but having spent plenty of time with SM3DL on 3DS, and being a lifelong fan of the series, pretty excited for this.
And I'd still give Super Mario World a 10/10 on Switch too, despite it having a few things that annoy me. Great games deserve great scores.
