The solution is very simple. Team up with “big three” on linking MC accounts with platform accounts and show playtime next to review. Zero playtime, means you’re not allowed to give a score. This would not only eliminate trolls, but also fanboys.
@gamefreak77 What the heck are you talking about? Are you complaining about optional TV connection? Then throw away your dock ... problem solved, now you have dedicated handheld. And if you’re waiting for the successor to the 3DS, boy I have some bad news for you. Switch lite pretty much seals 3DS’ fate.
@Andigaming Thank you. That’s absolutely fantastic news, but still people find something to complain about. They really didn’t have to do it, and after reading those comments, they shouldn’t.
@NotTelevision It’ll be nothing more than minor revision, simply to phase out old hardware. No big performance boosts here, at least not significant enough to classify it as “pro”.
UK price includes VAT, which equates to around £195. Also, as far as I know, this is the launch price of the new 3DS XL, which was four years ago. Accounting for inflation, we’re talking £180. Value wise, it’s the same as original 3DS (2011) after the price cut.
That reminds me the 3DS XL situation where Nikkei wrote an article about upcoming revision (with larger screen) and Nintendo responded that the rumours were false and it’s nothing but speculations ... only to announce it few weeks later, during a Nintendo Direct.
Considering that the 3DS sold half of what they managed to achieve with the DS, I don’t see them going that route. Not to mention, that they would have to split their dev teams, again. Saying that, I see them releasing cheaper, dock less and joycon less Switch and market it as pure handheld device. But that’s not going to happen before we see more expensive revision of the Switch (XL maybe?).
RE7 weights around 20GB on the PS4. Considering that Switch version would have lower resolution textures, it could easily fit on the 16GB cart. It’s just a lazy port, if you ask me.
It’s not a remake. It’s being developed by the new studio. Also because it’s just been announced, it doesn’t mean that it has had short development time. In worst case scenario they could use the same engine.
@SethNintendo Nothing could boost Vita sales. Black ops declassified, despite being steaming pile of garbage, still managed to be second best selling game on Vita (first in US), outselling Sony's every 1st party game.
@Curlynob Exactly. COD is huge whether we like it or not, and it certainly would boost Switch sales. It’s always good to have variety of games on the system. Not everyone’s Smash or Pokémon fan.
Well, if it's 3rd party dev porting this game, it could be announced later on as it might not be ready by the 12th of October. If it's real, they're most likely, going to announce it at E3. That would explain why they declined to comment, instead of denying it on spot, like they normally do.
I always praised Nintendo for the amount of extra and free content they put in that game, but I wish they could focus on other, important changes. Since I already gave up on built in voice chat, here’s my personal “quick” wish list of changes. I wish we could have prebuilt, custom gear sets and could change that gear in the middle of the match to adjust to current situation. I wish the match making was more balanced, which is kind of ok up until level 20, where past that, all sorts of unexplained matching can happen. I don’t know how their algorithm works, but I guess I became an expert in predicting match results, by taking a quick look at the players and their weapons, before the game even begins. I know that level itself doesn’t tell the whole story, but if you’re level 20 and play against levels 90+, you essentially play with people who live and breathe Splatoon. And yes, if you look at the results table, it’s pretty clear that shifting one player around would make all the difference, at least mathematically, so it can be done. I wish, players who use classic controls had choice whether they want to play against other classics or mixed with gyro users, or at least have the courtesy to indicate who’s using what (like in MK8). It’s nothing major, but I wish there was a separate mode where people could vote for the map, instead of being forced to map rotation. And finally, for the love of God, give me an option to disable Marina and Pearl announcements. I’m pretty sure all of that annoying chat could be summarised in one splash screen.
Why would I watch Netflix on my Switch during some long journey if I need to tether it to my phone first? I might as well just watch it on my phone. YouTube in PIP mode would be super useful for walkthroughs, guides etc and of course Twitch.
@OorWullie exactly. It was impossible to get one last weekend, whether to be despatched or collected, at least in my area. I can see that today availability is much better, but they definitely under supplied.
I don't get it. There are around 2 million units shipped at this point. With those numbers in mind, how is that a collectable item? Not to mention that tens of thousands of these (if not more) will stay unpacked for the sake of future investment. I'm pretty sure in 20 years time there will be less unpacked WiiUs than these.
@Nassov No it isn't. These are completely too different things. Games are all about the gameplay. But if you think that it's piracy because some let's plays contain spoilers, what about YouTube movie reviewers, which go in depth with the whole movie? Personally I think Nintendo is shooting it self in the foot, especially now when the business isn't particularly great and the competition is huge. Not to mention they are by far the worst of big three in terms of advertisment (two years down the road and still Wii U ads are nowhere to be found) and whether you like it or not, gameplay footage is free advertisement.
@XFsWorld You're right (apart from COD1 & 2). You can love it or hate it, but not having another big (and this one's pretty huge) franchise on this platform is a massive loss. As form this point 3rd party support is very much gone. Yet another nail to the coffin.
We all know Nintendo's philosophy that software sells hardware. So at the end, new 3ds would be a nice touch, but it won't push that many units as people expect. New games will.
I remember playing original mario kart at friends of mine an I wasn't that impressed, mostly because of controls. So I lost interest in the series until MK Wii. And I was blown away by how much fun this game was. MK7 was good too but it wasn't the same, something was missing. MK8 though, I really hope it's gonna be at least on the same level of funness as it's home console predecessor. Fingers crossed.
All they need to do is pretty much Wii U portable, with two screens and backwards compatibility with 3DS/DS. The specs for the Wii U were known and established at least two years before the lunch. So technically we're talking about putting quite average, with low power consumption, 5-6 years old hardware into a handheld. Nothing impossible IMO. What's most important, it wouldn't take forever to develop new games for that platform as by that time the specs would be well known. Also the cost it self as virtually no changes into the infrastructure would be required (new servers, services, OS etc).
@SavantSupreme BO2, NSMBU, Nintendo Land, AC3, Pikmin 3, Injustice, Trine 2, Wii Party U, COD Ghosts, Rayman Legends, Sports Club (both) and bunch of VC games.
That reminds me the situation with 3DS. If in 2011 somebody told me that this struggling handheld in two years time, will be outselling PS3 and XB360 all together, I'd be laughing my donkey off. Please watch the profanity — TBD
@banacheck I know that this figure seems to be very optimistic, but Nintendo surprised me quite a lot of times in terms of sales so I wouldn't be shocked if they actually hit 8-9 million mark. Like I said previously, if SMB3D turn out to be a hit and if they release MK8 in late February / early March ... it could happen. Unless Nintendo got something big and they're not telling us about it.
They probably looked at the GTA 5 and realised that at the time, they have no chance competing against Rockstar's baby. Or it's just too many big AAA titles coming out this fall, not even mention about ACIV which would be a direct competitor to Ubisoft's new IP. One of these reasons or all of them, can't tell.
In Europe, Wii U is very poorly advertised. There's little to none ads, so how people supposed to know what the Wii U is ? Retailers are not stupid. If no one knows what it is, why should they bother to sell it. Even if some of these people came across the image, poster etc they think it's a new controller for Wii. Until Nintendo does something about it, don't expect Wii U to be even partially popular as Xbox or PS.
@Lithium NES never ment to be for hardcore audience. They built it with casuals in mind. But it was such a big hit that all sorts of games were coming on it. At the end of NES life span, hardcore audience was big enough so they came with SNES which was hardcore focused.
Since when Nintendo was ever "Hardcore gamers" company ? In fact, when they tried to address their systems to those gamers, it was a slippery slope for them. And as far as I remember SNES was the last super successful, hardcore Nintendo's system. So they've gone back to square one. Why NES was so successful ? Because it was aiming at people who had little to none interest of games. It created a whole new breed of gamers. Just as DS and Wii. And that's what they're really good at. So ... the Wii U. Is it gonna share the success of its predecessor ? I don't know ... and you don't know either. None of us (probably) is gaming industry business analyst. I know it's very tempting to play one, but we are only consumers. I find it very funny, when people saying about "success" of next PS and MS consoles and how PS4 gonna rule the world ... THEY'RE NOT EVEN OUT YET. And I find it hilarious, when I read "Wii U is doomed" etc. This console is only 10 months on the market and practically, there's NO GAMES for this system. The most importent 1st party titles are delayed for at least one year (unexpectedly or intentionally, don't know). So what did anyone expect. Does it mean that "this is it" for Nintendo ? Hell no. So how about, we just sit tight, enjoy the games we have (regardless the system) and watch what happens next year, because it's going to be very interesting.
Am I the only one who buy Nintendo consoles for their exclusives ? Yes, it'd be nice if Fallout came out on the Wii U, but it's not some kind of disaster or something. TBH who cares ? Even Nintendo doesn't give a $€¥#%, because they have really good reasons. For couple of years I hear the same rubbish from "hardcore" gamers, 3rd party devs and competition that this and that N system is underpowered, there's no support etc and who's gonna buy it. Nintendo does little to nothing to fix this and guess what ... it doesn't matter because they're outselling the competition on every level and make shed loads of money. They not gonna go to other devs and beg (pay) them to release more games, because they have the best first party line up in the world, so they don't have to. MS and Sony on the other hand, they don't have much choice, but to do so (no wonder that 3rd party devs love them so much). Nintendo rather spend that money on their games, making damn sure, they will be quality games (remember Nintendo seal of quality). So just read between the lines. What Fallout devs and EA are actually saying is "Nintendo, you didn't pay us (enough) to built games for you, so now we're gonna bash your system" (EA in particular).
@ICHIkatakuri For me it'd make sense. Nintendo doesn't have many games but shed loads of cash. So they can either spend even more money on developing new platforms and pushing them on the market, trying to prove to developers that their system is still worthy, or just ... but them I recon it's just a matter of time when Sega will be a Nintendo's 1st party developer.
@Bulby I don't think so. If those games being developed for other platforms, they'd delay them a bit to make Wii U / 3DS ports. But after that we wouldn't see many multiplats from Altus.
