@Moistnado why not? It's polite, it doesn't hurt anybody, it shows gratefulness, and it's a common thing for creators to say to anyone who's experienced their creations.
@disappointedMii surely it's more like calling Borderlands a single player game? I vaguely recall there's no single player mode in left 4 dead (so I never bought it)
The huge crawling baby enemies in the 2nd stage are freakingly unnerving. I quite like that only your main pistol type weapon has relatively unlimited ammo - which helps keep the gameplay away from being another 3rd person shooter (ammo for weapons is low so each shot needs to count)
@Glassneedles it dropped below £7 a couple of years back and was as low as £9 two months back- from Loaded (former CD Keys before they got sick of random Redditors lumping their name with CJS CD Keys when there were issues with keys) on both occasions
@WiltonRoots the fear is wild 😆. Those who are incredibly keen on keeping physical games for 40+ years are likely keeping them unplayed in display cases
@Hwatt 😅 in the UK, there's a service called Boomerang which offers multiplatform game rental with various packages. It's a very handy option for me to also try out different games
@Misima basically ignoring that Nintendo have never done it yet. Neither of those were related to Nintendo and they're not even pushing live service games so that example is a tad irrelevant
@topsekret I respect that there are a few who want to keep a game indefinitely - a bit like holding on to NES cartridges and the NES to play it on until now - and physical games are seemingly quite essential to achieving that scenario.
I think a great deal of nuance is lost in the use of GKCs considering it's also paired with a fear of a digital-only future. There are strengths and there are weaknesses. Digital first advocates (of which I'm not) will not care as much about the weaknesses. My personal position is I will generally buy physical over digital unless the price was too good (Like Civ VI) or I know I'll probably never plan on selling on (like Mario Kart and Oddysey) or if it's a retro/classic game (like Marvel v Capcom).
For what it's worth, I think you had an idea of having them be installation cards, which is an interesting suggestion and probably only fails due to the overall cost of producing cards compared to a disc. I imagine if the cost difference was much closer then the idea would be far more viable. Don't think we're there yet.
@topsekret it's been almost 20 years and it's still open for redownloading. It was their first proper internet connected console.
For the Switch 2 game key cards to useless, the following needs to happen first in this order and probably without exception.
Wii > Wii U > Switch 1 > Switch 2.
I'm sure it'll be over 30 years before we're in any possible danger of losing access to redownload Switch 2 games. The fear of Nintendo servers closing even for downloads is wildly and ridiculously overblown. It's NEVER happened yet and still ppl are talking as if it'll happen in the next 5 to 10 years. Internet and reddit-fuelled irrational fear based largely or solely on eshop closure for purchases. In another post someone else already recently made the mistake of confusing the two scenarios.
@Eririichi it's objectively worse not objectively or marginally better. The idea of GKCs becoming more e-waste than code in box releases is rooted in the belief that the eshop will be closed for even redownloading games in less than 20 years. That's never happened to a Nintendo console yet and you can still redownload Wii purchases.
@contractcooker Only for Yosher because - will never sell on / trade / giveaway / lend games. So, none of the benefits of GKCs over digital will apply.
@Serpenterror I personally don't think people who pirate need particular reasons to justify piracy. There'll always be a reason that makes perfect sense to the person pirating a game and those reasons are never-ending.
Complain enough about GKCs and you get code-in-a-box. Complain about code-in-a-box, you get a digital-only release. Complain more, get a Cloud-version or no release at all.
@EVIL-C and yet you can STILL redownload games you've already purchased on Nintendo consoles. To date, Nintendo has not stopped that service (and it's been almost 20 years since the Wii launched).
You're confusing eshop closure for new purchases with losing the ability to redownload games. My 30+ years comes from knowing that: 1. Wii redownloads are still possible nearly 20 years later.
2. Any closures for even redownloading games will follow this sequence without exception - Wii > Wii U > Switch > Switch 2.
3. Server technologies and management would have improved in the past 2 decades and so would have Nintendo's maintenance and support team and processes. Remember, the Wii was their first proper internet enabled console (even allowing for things like the DSi).
It could theoretically be faster than 30 years, but based on the above, that's highly unlikely
@KraftMicahCheese you're gonna have to come up with a more original trolling line since leaks affect every company whether they're worth more than a billion dollars or whether they're worth less
@KraftMicahCheese would've gotten pirated and leaked even if the previous release was just last year. Attempting to shift the blame away from those pirating and leaking the game is just, well, interesting behaviour.
@kmtrain83 yeah the charts are physical only. I imagine the RE PC sales were due to pent up demand from the physical version being out of stock close to launch but that's a really wild guess from me
@WiltonRoots all this fuss about game key cards make me think that Xbox and PS physical games are all playable directly from the disc. Learnt that they still needed to be installed before playing
@FishDude Hmmm I don't know the answer to that - good for those of us in the UK who often seem to have to pay more than the USD price for games.
I can't speak for the price in Japan other than reflecting that Bananza costs around £35 for the digital version from Amazon Japan after conversion and that price is quite a bit lower than the digital price in the UK
@Fulgor_Astral I assume that without game key cards, this game would never get released in a physical format for the Nintendo switch 2. We'd only get a digital or code in box release
This will probably be a game key card release but I'm happy that it means previous Cloud games can launch properly on the Switch 2.
I'm not looking forward to all the inevitable, unreasonable comments around pricing - "it was released free on Epic Games and Amazon Prime Gaming - so I'm not paying more than £5 (insert other low number here) for the Switch 2 version" - or "that's terrible pricing for an 5 year old game - it's on sale now for £8.24 so it should launch at £10" because people think ports are easy/free/copy pasta jobs
@StorminNorman not sure if others know too but a 64GB card never has that amount available. I think it can differ slightly by manufacturer but it's likely around 58 or 59GB of actual capacity.
@WiltonRoots I'm surprised people STILL evidently believe Nintendo sets 3rd party pricing. Or at least that's what I choose to think because the alternative is that they're deliberately trolling and should be dealt with as per the community rules

Re: UK Charts: Pragmata Shoves Tomodachi Life Off The Top Spot
@Yosher as far as I know, that sales chart isn't communicating lifetime sales split so there's a chance for improvement

Re: Xbox Is Reportedly Having "Very Big Discussions" About Exclusivity

@Haruki_NLI I'm reasonably sure what meta posted was in jest but kal replied earnestly
Re: Okay, So The Mario Galaxy Soundtracks Are Officially On Spotify Right Now
@AX-7 your post is solid proof that anything can be labelled as "corporate greed" just from how you position something.
Re: Poll: Do You Think Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Will Sail Onto Switch 2?
@kal_el_07241 That's right - kill all consoles and all games should be PC only from now onwards.
Re: Splatoon Raiders' Switch 2 Price And Box Art Have Been Revealed
@Alpha008 Nintendo has issued a statement clarifying that digital prices went down rather than physical prices went up.
(There's something off about my grammar here in terms of tenses but the gist of the message is there)
Re: Talking Point: So, What Are Your First Impressions Of Splatoon Raiders?
@disappointedMii surely it's more like calling Borderlands a single player game? I vaguely recall there's no single player mode in left 4 dead (so I never bought it)
Re: Splatoon Raiders' Switch 2 Price And Box Art Have Been Revealed
@Kilamanjaro rent? I mean if you're in the UK you can probably rent it and other games for like about £12-£15 a month
Re: Splatoon Raiders' Switch 2 Price And Box Art Have Been Revealed
@Diven You mean the UK was already charging £8 less for digital.
Re: Pragmata Has Already Shot Past Its First Major Sales Milestone
@Thorgaer so did I.
There may have been a squeak or two uttered when I first encountered them but there's no one else to confirm whether it did or did not happen. 😬

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Review Of Pragmata On Switch 2
@8bit-Man if it's more expensive than the PS5 version in your area it means the seller has estimated there's more demand than supply.
If visuals and performance matters that much to you then just play on PC.

@larryisaman Mortal Kombat 1

@Anachronism the license is for the medium it's on, not for the game across every medium you have access to. A video game is not an mp3.
Should also note that Nintendo has never intentionally bricked any of their consoles. A console ban =/= bricked

@MoldyPasta buying digital in protest is madness. Buying digital because you prefer it is a choice
