Re: Review: Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) - One Of The Most Enticing Pokémon Games Ever

@tkdboy1889 I swear the large majority who prefer digital over key cards are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. I kinda understand protesting by not purchasing at all or buying digital for the convenience but it's perplexing if it's a protest by buying digital instead of a game key card.

Meanwhile, I'm very thankful we have wider access to games on the Switch 2 largely thanks to game key cards in my opinion. We longer get saddled with cloud versions which are even worse than code in box releases.

Re: Nintendo Indie World Showcase Announced For Today, 3rd March 2026

@Mando44646 It's such a pity about the licensing problems with getting a Switch 2 port of BG3. It'll be one of the few ports where you'll get fewer online comments complaining about the launch price of a port since it's never been deeply discounted (unless you use a VPN and take advantage of currency differences but that's a whole different kettle of fish)

Re: Review: Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) - One Of The Most Enticing Pokémon Games Ever

@Res462 You've gone round in circles to try to prove your point. I sincerely don't understand why you're ignoring the statement so I'll use capitals to note the key words. "We currently have no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-DEVELOPED titles" - This title WASN'T DEVELOPED by Nintendo (think that's been pointed out to you earlier too).

About game discussions, long before game key cards, we used to have a world where gamers would discuss previews or reviews and whether it looked fun for them (or not) or talk about aspects of the game. A game doesn't have to be released for those discussions to happen.

Re: Review: Pokémon Pokopia (Switch 2) - One Of The Most Enticing Pokémon Games Ever

jsty3105

@Res462 Nowhere in that interview does it contradict "We currently have no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-developed titles" - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/05/nintendo-has-no-plans-to-use-game-key-cards-for-first-party-developed-titles - this post also said "Now yes, the answer does specifically use the wording "Nintendo-developed titles" there, so there's every chance that games published by the Big N might be subject to a key card release down the line. But your major entries in the core series will be complete on cart for the time being, it seems."

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers Its Tech Analysis Of Resident Evil Requiem On Switch 2 - "Capcom Deserves Kudos For This Port"

jsty3105

@Vyacheslav333 Digital Foundry: On paper, a 540p image blown up to 1080p on a modern flat panel display doesn't sound great. However, DLSS looks surprisingly competitive. Fine detail like wires and fences can actually appear more temporally stable on Switch 2, while PS5's spatial upscaling solution (likely FSR1 or similar) looks noisier and less refined in motion. PS5 still wins overall on clarity, aided by its higher internal resolution and 4K UI (Switch 2 uses a 1080p UI), but the gap is much narrower than raw pixel counts would suggest."

Re: Pokémon Winds & Waves Announced For Switch 2, Launching Next Year

jsty3105

@Anti-Matter I've read rumours about the setting being Indonesia. doesn't really look like Malaysia or Thailand (not even worth mentioning Singapore since that's already an island 😬). Only East Malaysia (Borneo to the Westerners here) possibly comes to mind, like Sipadan, but then they'd also need giant rainforests around 😏

Re: Video: We've Played Fallout 4 On Switch 2 - Here's 12 Minutes Of Gameplay

jsty3105

@The_Nintendo_Expat yeah - agree - some games get too much with the "bigger = better" viewpoint. Meanwhile I'm enjoying playing Pac Man again and my Switch library is actually quite retro-heavy with arcade-type releases and I'm waiting to get Montezuma's Revenge since I played the original as a kid. Maybe I should try the Ace Combat series starting with the earlier ones. I did really really enjoy battling Kilrathi in Wing Commander

Hopefully Fallout 5 (or whatever it ends up being called) doesn't become too bloated for it's own good.

Re: Video: We've Played Fallout 4 On Switch 2 - Here's 12 Minutes Of Gameplay

jsty3105

@The_Nintendo_Expat I'm keen on product development and have done a lot of work on internal digital product launches - no sarcasm Scope creep is an ever present danger, particularly when I'm also personally keen on making things even better as experiences so I have to regularly stop myself from being the cause of scope creep......

I'm afraid that for this anniversary edition of Fallout, the prices are the same across all the platforms at launch including Steam. Think there was an outcry over the pricing back in November too.

I'd prefer £20-£30 myself so will wait a few months for that inevitable sale.

Re: Video: We've Played Fallout 4 On Switch 2 - Here's 12 Minutes Of Gameplay

jsty3105

@WilliamRikerNC017 why would they price this so much less than the Xbox and PS release price of £50? Think they've priced it this way due to typical non Nintendo video game sales patterns, so, high priced to start with followed by steeper discounts later. This is already like half price on Xbox and PS after launching in November so I'd guess the pricing on the Switch 2 will follow a similar pattern.

I'm waiting for the sale as well so not part of the group that'll buy this at launch

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

jsty3105

@Cry_Zero I'll never understand why being realistic about things is considered defending one or more billion dollar companies. It's such a lazy, lazy critique of a viewpoint. What's abundantly clear is that pricing is a huge/ only factor for your claim about this games being put forward for sale at $20 bring an anti consumer choice.

Would $10 make it pro consumer then? Let's flip this conversation. What would be a pro consumer move? Offering it for free as part of the sub? Others have theorised here that there are specific reasons why it wasn't made available in the Nintendo Online offerings. Also, some would argue that locking it behind a sub is anti consumer. There's also an arguement that making it actually available for purchase instead of needing to resort to emulation or paying over the odds is a pro consumer move.

At this point - talking about Nintendo and suggesting that one or more things might be pro consumer choices would probably seem like madness to one or more here. Much of it is just how decisions are positioned, perceived and manipulated by rage baiting YouTubers and others. I don't see them as anti or pro. They're just business decisions with pros and cons just like most other business decisions. A business that tries to please everyone is a business that tends to go out of business fast.

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

jsty3105

@The_Nintendo_Expat thanks. Appreciate your viewpoints and the way you present them though we regularly sit in opposite sides for opinions!

I've never seen the points for code in the box releases though I can see how they cater to a small portion of the market who wants to receive/give a game in a physical shell - particularly since Steam normalised digital distribution for pc gamers.

I can live with game key cards since it means we don't get cloud only releases anymore.

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

jsty3105

@The_Nintendo_Expat I feel that only charities are not anti consumer. II also feel Nintendo have always been a profit chasing company that has centered it's identify on building toys. Now they've focused a lot of their games on creating digital playgrounds (Mario Odyssey is probably the best example). Every business is, to some extent anti consumer or has many parts of their offerings which are/seem anti consumer. My challenge back is there are many occasions of Nintendo making it easier for gamers which are ignored or forgotten in order to focus on the anti consumer part. Heck, people even vehemently claim console bans are anti consumer. Is it anti consumer if you get banned for hacking/ cheating?

Are Virtual game cards that make it easier to share games with family members and friends anti consumer? Is making the virtual boy exclusive to subscribers anti consumer or a way to add value for subscribers? People can easily position something as anti consumer. To me, the term has lost all it's meaning in gaming circles and is largely a big stick to complain about capitalism.

These companies are all out to generate profit for themselves and shareholders. But, just because I don't like something doesn't make it anti consumer behaviour.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Gets Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade, Out Now

jsty3105

@Samalik I find the 'no excuse' line highly implausible. Those who are video game developers (edit: For Nintendo) and those who actually know whether something is 'no excuse' are usually under tight NDAs and are also usually careful about such claims on social media anyway.

The type of claim you're making are usually from pc gamers who think they know about how games should be based on their experiences with pc gaming

Re: Nintendo Seemingly Rules Out Virtual Console Revival, Says It Remains Focused On Offering Classics Via Switch Online

jsty3105

@Harmonie it's way more complicated to move things from one platform to another than you might imagine. Even when you think of transferring things to a new system. Especially when the older system was relatively archaic.

Even relatively simple things like content tagging might (probably) need to be redone, content rewritten, fields remapped, purchase processes redrawn... The list goes on.

Not sure it's relevant to claim that all forms of media offer a streaming option or a purchase option because that's not true, particularly in the entertainment media industry. Edit: Actually, I don't know what you're trying to say there.

Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

jsty3105

@metaphysician I fear it's the race to the bottom pricing adopted by publishers not named Nintendo. I think game backlogs are a colossal waste of money that somehow enables gamers to boast about the games they got for rock bottom prices.

For me, games are meant to be played, not sitting in some digital library for years because someone bought it on sale. A Steam 'pile of shame' is somehow, perversely, also a humble-bragging tool.

Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

jsty3105

@Jokerwolf I've happily paid for games that are over 3 decades old though the rose tinted glasses also meant that those games are harder than I remembered... Appreciate the dialogue though we disagree entirely on the value of games after x time.

I also think it's sad that you and other game developers HAVE to accept a number of pirated copies.

Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

jsty3105

@Moistnado ah, that old argument that phones are more powerful. Which means you're only looking at the technology in isolation. Not worth going over that here.

Particularly when you mention OLED screens. How many examples can you name me which have minimum capabilities of 120hz VRR HDR?

Remember, even a £1700 handheld PC and the £1000 (or near it) top end Xbox Ally X don't have OLED screens

Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns

jsty3105

@Moistnado superior hardware? This is currently the most powerful handheld console launched at £400 that you can seamlessly switch between handheld and TV play in a second. No other handheld does that.

By that logic, every pc gamer with a top end system should happily emulate PS/Xbox games once that capability exists because -'superior hardware'.
