@shoeses Companies put games on sale to boost sales. Nintendo doesn't need to do that and, more importantly, EVERY sale conditions customers to value your game at that lower price. It's always easy to drop prices and always hard to raise them later. Nintendo is adamant against devaluing their games.
"we saw a lot of comments on the internet saying ‘we want to play an open-world Metroid'" is more of Nintendo listening to fan feedback and less of Nintendo following open world trends
@GoldenSunRM That's not actually true. Unless your particular country has specific laws mandating that. Stores generally don't have to sell you an item that's been mispriced. They can choose to honour it but that's very different from them being required to sell you an item at an unintentional loss to themselves.
@Moistnado not sure how it's not clear that Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2 includes the DLC at that price while the Steam version you reference doesn't.
@LightSpirit but lastfootnote got value out of it. You obviously didn't. How can he be wrong and you right? Especially if you haven't gotten the dlc yet?
@RumandCohibas Didn't Nintendo just discount some of their games last month? Xenoblade 3 was definitely on sale as well as Zelda Echoes of Wisdom. Discounts on games like Mario Odyssey tend to happen only about 2 times a year.
@Anti-Matter to a very large extent, Southeast Asia is PlayStation land. The purchasing power there has been so low for decades that piracy flourished for a very long time. I believe that drove PS1 and PS2 sales across the region and conditioned customers those days to expect 50 to 100 games with every console purchase. Nobody really wanted to sell or buy a GameCube or N64 and only buy 1 game for them...
@MamaSymphonia that's because it probably wasn't locked/developed to 30fps on ps5 or the PC.
If a PS4 game was developed to a locked 30fps and there was backwards compatibility for it on the PS5, there's no button for it to instantly play at 60fps. Ppl have to do some work and perhaps fix bugs created by the increased frame rate.
Case in point, lasers in Totk on the Switch 2 cause more damage compared to the Switch 1 just because of the increased frame rate.
And yeah, it does affect Nintendo's recent consoles more 🤷🏻♂️. Absolutely no arguement there. The benefit of gaming on a PC is that most things aren't locked to a specific target. I think there are some games where no amount of extra power will make a jot of difference but I can't yet think of any. Or perhaps I could be totally wrong about that
I'm just saying that even the mod will likely mean having a console design to fit a larger battery which in turn increases size and weight, not just the cost. You may have to deal with increased heat from the larger battery and design for that though, which may mean increased power consumption from fans etc which leads to less real battery life gains from the larger battery. Doubt the trade offs were worth it at launch. Looking forward to the revised model which improves battery life
@Filthy presenting objective reality is being seeing as trolling? There are costs and trade offs to everything, especially on a handheld. I'd prefer more battery life too but even the top end new Xbox ally x has similar battery life.
Battery technology hasn't improved that much in recent years and as far as I've read, has largely stagnated.
@Filthy Feels like you have unrealistic expectations for battery life and unrealistic ways to achieve better battery life.
The Switch 2's battery life is currently comparable with other performance-focused handhelds and is on par with the OG Switch. If there was a more efficient chipset during the planning and procurement phase that didn't cost more, there's no reason why they wouldn't use it.
I don't get the 'lazy developer' criticism. I feel that type of criticism is also an incredibly lazy one. You can't possibly know the prioritisation decisions that go into making a port. I certainly don't and won't even pretend to try.
@romando so again we're back to expecting a portable PS5-like console at less than $500. I'll eat humble pie if Sony releases a portable PS5 at under $500.
Even Microsoft's foray into a portable Xbox world costs more....
@Toastmaster "...and Switch 2 cost nearly the same as the powerful Rog Ally and Legion Go PC Handhelds. 680$." Didn't the Legion Go launch in Canada for around CAD$950? And didn't the Switch 2 launch for 629? I don't recall a price increase in Canada. Maybe you're thinking of the Mario Kart World bundle?
@ElRoberico on this, we'll have to agree to disagree. I don't feel the race to the bottom pricing is helping the game industry at all and is actually detrimental in the long term. I don't believe that games should be like cars and become effectively worthless after x time.
@ElRoberico they very strongly believe their games have value. Deep discounts destroy that value and conditions players to wait like how many now wait for Ubisoft discounts I guess 🤷🏻♂️
@Striker21 bold claim considering Sony has cancelled most of it's live service games plans. You didn't provide any source for the quotes - guessing it was from AI mode. I dug around to find out they came from a consulting firm's report.
Also, your base premise for all your suggestions is that "Nintendo's sales model heavily relies on nostalgia" - demonstrating you don't know their sales model or their business. The basis for your suggestions then is flawed and doesn't, in any way, support their current strategy or their strengths.
They also already have a subscription model that grants access to several classic games. Can that library be better? Sure. Should they go further and add more and charge more like your suggestion for 25 a month for day 1 releases? Nothing suggests that it would be a good idea and it sounds like a shareholder idea to try to chase the shrinking subscription money tree.
Your gamepass-like idea is also faster way to devalue their games than discounting them and Nintendo has been vocal about not devaluing them. It can be fun to discuss business approaches and ideas, but you're not even starting from the right place.
@Anti-Matter you've implied with this and your previous post that most current Switch 2 owners bought it out of blind loyalty and / or don't see the flaws. That's not particularly likely.
@JaxonH yeah and imagining personal experiences to be what the market is or wants is also one of the fastest ways to fail in business or product development
@Striker21 interesting that a reputable consulting firm would produce such reports. I can see why and how they've come to those conclusions but would personally challenge the basis on which they were created. Thankfully I don't work for them.
@Striker21 you're in denial that the market is actually moving away from live service games. It's bizarre that your claims are like the opposite of what's happening.
@ButterySmooth30FPS he's going to expect 1080p 60fps while playing on battery mode on the laptop. I'd also be impressed to see a sub £400 laptop that would play most games at 60fps.
@OldGamer999 can't say it wouldn't be interesting but can't see it being worth the R&d and effort to bring it to market. Maybe if the PS5 Pro became the biggest and fastest selling console 😁 Fun to dream perhaps! 😃
@OldGamer999 that would be one heck of a dock 😆. Basically would need to be an external graphic card with a another processor to take on the additional CPU loads. And possibly cost more than the switch 2 😬
@Vyacheslav333 laptops have never, ever been portable gaming devices. You'd get laughed out of most gaming circles saying that, including the enthusiast pc ones.
Plus, I'm not sure how anyone can ever play on a laptop while standing up without a table or something to put the laptop on. Physically impossible for pretty much every game not named pacman
@OldGamer999 I get that more frames tends to be nicer but come on. The new high end Rog Ally Xbox X handheld barely even reaches 30fps for cyberpunk and doesn't go above 40fps for Doom the dark ages. Expecting 60fps isn't realistic for every release.
@Solid_Python correct. They can't seem to grasp that it's a portable. Or that they're in the camp that wants Nintendo to sell a powerful home console once again (which isn't happening for a long long long time given the success of this strategy)
@MrStark it's been noted a couple of years back that prices of older electronics were going up. That plus tarrifs meant Nintendo would need to raise the price of the og switch to remain profitable

@cedarhyped gamers like to treat games as if they depreciate like cars and become worthless after x years
Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?
@SpecG081 think you've bought the wrong console. The only handheld that seems to achieve what you want is a £1000+ handheld gaming pc.
Hope you end up with better playing experiences either way. I suggest you sell off your Switch 2 and to fund that handheld gaming pc
