@tkdboy1889 I swear the large majority who prefer digital over key cards are cutting off their noses to spite their faces. I kinda understand protesting by not purchasing at all or buying digital for the convenience but it's perplexing if it's a protest by buying digital instead of a game key card.
Meanwhile, I'm very thankful we have wider access to games on the Switch 2 largely thanks to game key cards in my opinion. We longer get saddled with cloud versions which are even worse than code in box releases.
@Mando44646 It's such a pity about the licensing problems with getting a Switch 2 port of BG3. It'll be one of the few ports where you'll get fewer online comments complaining about the launch price of a port since it's never been deeply discounted (unless you use a VPN and take advantage of currency differences but that's a whole different kettle of fish)
@Res462 You've gone round in circles to try to prove your point. I sincerely don't understand why you're ignoring the statement so I'll use capitals to note the key words. "We currently have no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-DEVELOPED titles" - This title WASN'T DEVELOPED by Nintendo (think that's been pointed out to you earlier too).
About game discussions, long before game key cards, we used to have a world where gamers would discuss previews or reviews and whether it looked fun for them (or not) or talk about aspects of the game. A game doesn't have to be released for those discussions to happen.
@Res462 Nowhere in that interview does it contradict "We currently have no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-developed titles" - https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/05/nintendo-has-no-plans-to-use-game-key-cards-for-first-party-developed-titles - this post also said "Now yes, the answer does specifically use the wording "Nintendo-developed titles" there, so there's every chance that games published by the Big N might be subject to a key card release down the line. But your major entries in the core series will be complete on cart for the time being, it seems."
@BleakStuff I wonder if these issues are also present in the other anniversary edition releases on Steam, Xbox and PS or just unique to the Switch 2 version
@Vyacheslav333 Digital Foundry: On paper, a 540p image blown up to 1080p on a modern flat panel display doesn't sound great. However, DLSS looks surprisingly competitive. Fine detail like wires and fences can actually appear more temporally stable on Switch 2, while PS5's spatial upscaling solution (likely FSR1 or similar) looks noisier and less refined in motion. PS5 still wins overall on clarity, aided by its higher internal resolution and 4K UI (Switch 2 uses a 1080p UI), but the gap is much narrower than raw pixel counts would suggest."
@larryisaman I remember when Vyacheslav333 claimed that laptops were also gaming handhelds. Should just get the GPD Win 5 or Xbox Rog Ally X if so hung up over pixels or performance and still don't want to be locked to a desktop pc to play. Of course, there's a price to pay for that.
@MegaVel91 he probably thinks animated films are just for kids too. I have no time for those who claim something is too childish looking to play when there are a great many people who think that videogames are already a childish activity.
@Anti-Matter I've read rumours about the setting being Indonesia. doesn't really look like Malaysia or Thailand (not even worth mentioning Singapore since that's already an island 😬). Only East Malaysia (Borneo to the Westerners here) possibly comes to mind, like Sipadan, but then they'd also need giant rainforests around 😏
@JohnnyMind it's so weird that we're 2026 and there are people who genuinely expected the Switch 2 to perform equal to or better than the PS and Xbox because it released many years later and because some never use it as a handheld
@The_Nintendo_Expat yeah - agree - some games get too much with the "bigger = better" viewpoint. Meanwhile I'm enjoying playing Pac Man again and my Switch library is actually quite retro-heavy with arcade-type releases and I'm waiting to get Montezuma's Revenge since I played the original as a kid. Maybe I should try the Ace Combat series starting with the earlier ones. I did really really enjoy battling Kilrathi in Wing Commander
Hopefully Fallout 5 (or whatever it ends up being called) doesn't become too bloated for it's own good.
@ear_wig I'm certain Nintendo had nothing to do with this pricing Thought we established this is the same launch price as it was on Steam, PS and Xbox? This is all on Bethesda. Still agree that it's too much for the game so it's a pretty hard sell at this price but some are clearly buying it
@The_Nintendo_Expat I'm keen on product development and have done a lot of work on internal digital product launches - no sarcasm Scope creep is an ever present danger, particularly when I'm also personally keen on making things even better as experiences so I have to regularly stop myself from being the cause of scope creep......
I'm afraid that for this anniversary edition of Fallout, the prices are the same across all the platforms at launch including Steam. Think there was an outcry over the pricing back in November too.
I'd prefer £20-£30 myself so will wait a few months for that inevitable sale.
@Doomcrow This is the anniversary edition that also launched on Steam in November 2025. I agree that it is expensive (very) but it comes with all the DLC and I think there's 150 of something (edit: creation club items). You almost certainly didn't buy the GOTY game and all the DLC for $5 https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/377160/view/583905832606892982
@WilliamRikerNC017 why would they price this so much less than the Xbox and PS release price of £50? Think they've priced it this way due to typical non Nintendo video game sales patterns, so, high priced to start with followed by steeper discounts later. This is already like half price on Xbox and PS after launching in November so I'd guess the pricing on the Switch 2 will follow a similar pattern.
I'm waiting for the sale as well so not part of the group that'll buy this at launch
@The_Nintendo_Expat with upwards spiralling development costs I can imagine these relatively simpler releases are being done to partly help fund new games. Or at least that's what I'm hoping.
@RumandCohibas this edition is roughly 3 months old. It launched on Xbox and PS in November for the same price as this launch and I've seen it's currently on sale for about £27 there so maybe there'll be a big drop in 3 months time
@spider-kev - about £27 is pretty much the cheapest it's ever been. It's certainly never been £10
@Zuljaras I can"t remember the exact calculations but don't forget that storage media is never exactly the same space as the quoted capacity. You'll always get a bit less
@Cry_Zero I'll never understand why being realistic about things is considered defending one or more billion dollar companies. It's such a lazy, lazy critique of a viewpoint. What's abundantly clear is that pricing is a huge/ only factor for your claim about this games being put forward for sale at $20 bring an anti consumer choice.
Would $10 make it pro consumer then? Let's flip this conversation. What would be a pro consumer move? Offering it for free as part of the sub? Others have theorised here that there are specific reasons why it wasn't made available in the Nintendo Online offerings. Also, some would argue that locking it behind a sub is anti consumer. There's also an arguement that making it actually available for purchase instead of needing to resort to emulation or paying over the odds is a pro consumer move.
At this point - talking about Nintendo and suggesting that one or more things might be pro consumer choices would probably seem like madness to one or more here. Much of it is just how decisions are positioned, perceived and manipulated by rage baiting YouTubers and others. I don't see them as anti or pro. They're just business decisions with pros and cons just like most other business decisions. A business that tries to please everyone is a business that tends to go out of business fast.
It's not accurate to say there are no improvements, the switch has a larger screen than the GBA and more portable than the Wii U. To some extent I feel a slight arrogance if you will from anyone claiming it's stupid to buy this at 20. Sure it's not your purchase point but it's looking like it's a fair price for the market
@The_Nintendo_Expat thanks. Appreciate your viewpoints and the way you present them though we regularly sit in opposite sides for opinions!
I've never seen the points for code in the box releases though I can see how they cater to a small portion of the market who wants to receive/give a game in a physical shell - particularly since Steam normalised digital distribution for pc gamers.
I can live with game key cards since it means we don't get cloud only releases anymore.
@The_Nintendo_Expat I feel that only charities are not anti consumer. II also feel Nintendo have always been a profit chasing company that has centered it's identify on building toys. Now they've focused a lot of their games on creating digital playgrounds (Mario Odyssey is probably the best example). Every business is, to some extent anti consumer or has many parts of their offerings which are/seem anti consumer. My challenge back is there are many occasions of Nintendo making it easier for gamers which are ignored or forgotten in order to focus on the anti consumer part. Heck, people even vehemently claim console bans are anti consumer. Is it anti consumer if you get banned for hacking/ cheating?
Are Virtual game cards that make it easier to share games with family members and friends anti consumer? Is making the virtual boy exclusive to subscribers anti consumer or a way to add value for subscribers? People can easily position something as anti consumer. To me, the term has lost all it's meaning in gaming circles and is largely a big stick to complain about capitalism.
These companies are all out to generate profit for themselves and shareholders. But, just because I don't like something doesn't make it anti consumer behaviour.
@Samalik yeah, I believe I do understand what you're asking for and I'm sure you totally believe that what you're asking for should be normal and be done for free (particularly when there are others in the comments section who share similar views to you).
@Samalik I find the 'no excuse' line highly implausible. Those who are video game developers (edit: For Nintendo) and those who actually know whether something is 'no excuse' are usually under tight NDAs and are also usually careful about such claims on social media anyway.
The type of claim you're making are usually from pc gamers who think they know about how games should be based on their experiences with pc gaming
@Samalik those features were already priced in... Work was already done. No additional work needed. No code changes or tweaks needed. No testing phases needed. No further planning time needed.
Edit: Realised you also talked about pc gaming. That means you also think console games and pc games are identical. They aren't.
@SirLink there's so much humble bragging going on in both gaming media and amongst gamers about untouched gaming libraries. What a waste of money for a what's usually a digital library of games
@Cry_Zero anti consumer is code these days for saying the company needs to act like a charity. It's such a meaningless word and used by anyone who believes that any price higher than what they're prepared to pay is an anti consumer move
@Harmonie it's way more complicated to move things from one platform to another than you might imagine. Even when you think of transferring things to a new system. Especially when the older system was relatively archaic.
Even relatively simple things like content tagging might (probably) need to be redone, content rewritten, fields remapped, purchase processes redrawn... The list goes on.
Not sure it's relevant to claim that all forms of media offer a streaming option or a purchase option because that's not true, particularly in the entertainment media industry. Edit: Actually, I don't know what you're trying to say there.
@westmeadow Pretty much everything that costs money is a terrible deal if you already have a ROM of it. It's impossible to compete with something free that you can use on most devices of your choice
@WiltonRoots If he hasn't hit the limits of his games then he must have gotten the £1000+ one. Or already spent on the CPU to get similar frame rate increases. or spent thousands on his PC setup so there aren't any bottlenecks anywhere
@metaphysician I fear it's the race to the bottom pricing adopted by publishers not named Nintendo. I think game backlogs are a colossal waste of money that somehow enables gamers to boast about the games they got for rock bottom prices.
For me, games are meant to be played, not sitting in some digital library for years because someone bought it on sale. A Steam 'pile of shame' is somehow, perversely, also a humble-bragging tool.
@Jokerwolf I've happily paid for games that are over 3 decades old though the rose tinted glasses also meant that those games are harder than I remembered... Appreciate the dialogue though we disagree entirely on the value of games after x time.
I also think it's sad that you and other game developers HAVE to accept a number of pirated copies.
@GrowingWings there are no oled vrr screens on any gaming device under £800. The only device I know of at the moment that even has oled vrr screen is the Lenovo Legion Go 2 which hasn't exactly made waves in the handheld scene due to its price
@Jokerwolf I remain confused as to why some expect games to be worthless after x time. The whole premise of a site like GOG is that old games have value. If they don't have value then people shouldn't bother playing them in the first place
@Moistnado ah, that old argument that phones are more powerful. Which means you're only looking at the technology in isolation. Not worth going over that here.
Particularly when you mention OLED screens. How many examples can you name me which have minimum capabilities of 120hz VRR HDR?
Remember, even a £1700 handheld PC and the £1000 (or near it) top end Xbox Ally X don't have OLED screens
@Moistnado superior hardware? This is currently the most powerful handheld console launched at £400 that you can seamlessly switch between handheld and TV play in a second. No other handheld does that.
By that logic, every pc gamer with a top end system should happily emulate PS/Xbox games once that capability exists because -'superior hardware'.
@NPC411 too many expected a portable PS5 at the same £400 price and size and more battery life and an OLED screen (never mind the fact that there aren't any OLED screens with those minimum specs in the handheld gaming space on products under £900 - even a £1700 handheld didn't have OLED)
@BLK_4EVER I'm honestly not interested in verbally jousting with someone who talks like you. While I disagree with NintedoExpat on many points and we may never come to an agreement on them, it's still more preferable and engaging to do that with him than with you.

@Jokerwolf I remain confused as to why some expect games to be worthless after x time. The whole premise of a site like GOG is that old games have value. If they don't have value then people shouldn't bother playing them in the first place
Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns
@Moistnado ah, that old argument that phones are more powerful. Which means you're only looking at the technology in isolation. Not worth going over that here.
Particularly when you mention OLED screens. How many examples can you name me which have minimum capabilities of 120hz VRR HDR?
Remember, even a £1700 handheld PC and the £1000 (or near it) top end Xbox Ally X don't have OLED screens
Re: 13 Switch Emulators Hit By Latest Wave Of Nintendo Takedowns
@Moistnado superior hardware? This is currently the most powerful handheld console launched at £400 that you can seamlessly switch between handheld and TV play in a second. No other handheld does that.
By that logic, every pc gamer with a top end system should happily emulate PS/Xbox games once that capability exists because -'superior hardware'.
Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report
