Re: One Of The Best EarthBound-Inspired Indie RPGs Is Finally Confirmed For Switch

happydeathman

Hey, I've beaten this. I love Earthbound, of course, but the Earthbound comparisons here, though inevitable, are also pretty facile. However, I can confirm that it IS really good, with stuff that you absolutely won't expect (and yes, there are few parts that are really, really horrifying--but not, imo, in a cheap or gratuitous way). Recommended, on whatever platform.

Re: Danganronpa Creator Hasn't Ruled Out Returning To The Series

Not gonna lie: after V3 it would be VERY hard to make a new Danganronpa game that didn't feel like a complete betrayal. Or if you think "betrayal" is too harsh a word, let's just say that it would lack integrity. Prove very clearly that the ending of V3 meant NOTHING.

Still, the series has consistently confounded my expectations, so I dunno.

Re: Feature: How Stardew Valley Grew The Farm Sim While Harvest Moon Went To Seed

I played the original Harvest Moon when it first came out; I was drawn to the idea, but it was very limited in execution, and I was never able to get into any of the follow-ups. I found the anime art kind of ugly and the characters generally boring stereotypes.

On the other hand, I've played Stardew Valley for over three hundred hours over the course of two playthroughs. I'm not sure if it's my favorite game EVER, but definitely up there. But I can't play the Switch version. Why not? Because then I couldn't install Stardew Valley Expanded, which is an absolute must. Most mods that add new characters and whatnot feel very fanfic-ish and clash in unappealing ways with the base game, but SVE is the exception. It makes a great game greater; y'all should try it.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Mega Man X

Are we really just not differentiating between the North American and European covers? I like the art, but to me (an American, admittedly) the European one looks way too busy with that "pal version" and the unappealing clash of the black on the left and the greenish teal on the right (and also on the far left, for some reason). It's also kinda weird that it doesn't include the Capcom logo, though that doesn't bother me.

Re: Dragon Quest Treasures Lifts The Lid On Monster Recruitment And More

I've played and loved all the mainline Dragon Quest games (except for X, which of course I've never played, dangit), but I've had a pretty hit-or-miss record with these spin-offs: I enjoyed Torneko Mystery Dungeon and its sequel (even though I was never very good at them), and Rocket Slime on the DS was a lot of fun, but I gave up on the Dragon Quest Monsters games pretty quickly (not really into Pokemon-type stuff), and I tried to like both Builders games but ended up getting bored both times. So this one is a big ol' “maybe” for me.

Re: Eastward Is Getting A Physical Release, Pre-Orders Open Now

Probably worth playing, but it felt tonally very strange to me. There's one part near the beginning where the story gets incredibly dark, and then that's not even really acknowledged in any way. It sort of felt to me like it was written by aliens, I'm not gonna lie. And even beyond that, for my tastes it went on longer than it needed to. I was at what I'm almost sure was the last level, and I died on some sub-boss and thought, you know what? I just don't care enough to try that again. And that was that.
