UK chart data is now in for the week ending 10th August, revealing that Fire Emblem: Three Houses' streak at the top of the charts is over after two successful weeks.
The game has fallen from first to seventh place this week with a 60% drop in sales; interestingly, even the new leader Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled saw a 14% drop in sales from the previous week, indicating that this week saw quite a slump across the board.
The top twenty has a pleasing number of Switch games scattered amongst other heavy hitters, with nearly half of the top ten being Nintendo-published titles.

Should GTA V apply for some Guinness records at this point?
To be fair, I still think Fire Emblem did pretty well for itself all things considered. It is pretty great, currently in part 2 of the Blue Lions.
Now, the big question is how will Astral Chain fare?
"Three Mario games in top 20"
Four games, not three
I’m just as surprised by Nintendo’s recent dominance on the UK charts, as I was when I first found out that they weren’t huge in that territory.
@MS7000 Hopefully Astral Chain enters the chart quite highly. I have now pre-ordered it.. I can't see it staying in the charts long however, it is not a mainstream title.
@John_Deacon actually there's 5 Mario titles in the top 20. hmm, do people consider Smash to be a Mario game? (I did count it)
NL prob meant 3 in the top 10.
Go Mario Maker 2, what a great game!
If you want a comparison. Persona 5 dropped out of the Top 40 immediately after its first week at #1.
So two weeks at #1 and one week in top 10 is pretty good over there.
@jco83 I always thought Smash was a Fire Emblem game in disguise.
activation shot themselves in the foot with Crash
It seems that PS4 and Xbox games are being sold digitally, mostly.
I thought Crash would drop a little after the microtransactions debacle, but, for better or worse (?), it seems most people don't care or else games like FIFA wouldn't sell as much.
I don't have any nostalgia for Crash Team Racing so I probably will not get it and the way Activision handles their games makes me even less interested. But if the Crash Trilogy will be sold extremely cheaply one day, I might at least pick that one up.
@John_Deacon Looks like another one bit the dust?
My only complaint about FE:3H is people always misplaced their belongings. I found so many of their garbage and can't be bothered to return them.
@jswhitfield8 Cheers for the heads up - we're looking into it! 🙂
FE3H is special. Games like this don't come around often. Games that I pick up and play until my eyes hurt and I am confused why I am so hungry.
But that very pro is also a con. This is a MASSIVE game with 4 full routes to play through before even any DLC drops. Many people just aren't into that.
So you're telling me that a franchise with a much larger audience than fire emblem sold better than fire emblem? Wow, how surprising. (Not hating FE, I love FE, I'm just saying people shouldn't make a big deal over this stuff)
Not surprised to see the ashes in the charts, considering the series is now underway
For me FE3H is my game of the year by a long shot. With my short attention span any game that can have me glued to it until 3am and putting in 7-8 hour stints is very special in my book. Still getting used to the mechanics and I can see where I've made some errors in my character building but I'm loving it.
I'm most surprised that Forza Horizon 3 is back in the top 20, not 4. I always considered 3 the better game, but I didn't know if that was the general opinion.
Uk likes crash wayyyyyyy too much
I'm surprised at Mario Maker 2 being so popular in the UK.
Well, we tried people. The UK dream is dead. They cannot be improved upon, they're simply not there yet evolution-wise.
The research team is currently considering termination of the subspecies, as it is impossible to get them to understand that CoD, FIFA and other such things are terrible, and that Crash Team Racing is a bloody racing game that is one of a million. (It's a good game tho).
@Blizzia Hey whats this about termination... I'm from the UK and Astral Chain/Luigi's Mansion 3/Links Awakening and Doom Eternal are just around the corner.. I want to be around to play them 😂😂
@jswhitfield8
I had this problem recently, but I changed to a browser with adblock and it sorted it out.
@NintenDan_ Or it was one more that wanted to break free, so he spread his wings and flew away
@jco83 there are so many characters from Mario's universe in Smash that it's hard to deny the link
@dew12333 same here. It was the only way to solve the problem
@BANJO Unfortunately the UK has been found wanting in vital areas such as not having terrible taste in games. I will permit you to vacate the area, but after 24 hours we will have to quarantine and begin termination.
@MS7000 I love bayonetta and platinum will do us good with astral chain. Well I hope so cos it looks pretty cool. Gonna get it anyways, 👯♂️
I'm surprised it topped the charts in the UK at all, let alone for two weeks.
@Blizzia Plenty of time, I'll be off now to go and pack 😂 (Must make sure to pack my Switch and games)
@Ralizah It has performed very well. It's also down to many Xbox/PS4 titles being digitally purchased and both consoles now being a bit long in the tooth. Few Xbox One titles will perform well except for exclusive's going forwards.
The thing is with these charts they don’t really tell you very much. It’s such a slow time of year hitting the top of the charts isn’t that hard. It doesn’t necessarily denote a game is a huge success.
But still the overall impression for Nintendo here in the UK is that the Switch is hitting heights they haven’t for many years. You actually see it more clearly with the shelf space given over to Switch in Supermarkets (I suspect that most physical sales at this time of year are dominated by supermarkets so being on those shelves and good relations with the supermarkets is pretty crucial here. Even a niche game like Fire Emblem has a chance if Nintendo can leverage it onto those valuable shelves).
Nintendo burnt serious bridges there in the Wii U era but shops like Asda have come back on board.
@jswhitfield8 thanks, that should be fixed/improved now!
@John_Deacon I think we should stop with these puns and just play the game...
@Quarth The interesting thing is the Switch version doesn't seem to have gotten the microtransactions. Maybe with Nintendo's rules it's too problematic to add in microtransactions post-launch.
@Grumblevolcano One can hope so!
How...just how is GTA V still selling at all let alone placing top 10? This makes absolutely zero sense to me.
Still, 3 weeks top 10 for a J-SRPG on a Nintendo platform in the UK is revolutionary no matter how you look at it.
@John_Deacon still questionable whether it can be described as a Mario game per se though thinking on it more. If it had Mario in the title I'd say yes just for that reason. But as it isn't I'd say it's perhaps better described as a Nintendo Universe game ☺
Fire Emblem Three Houses has sold ~30,000 copies in the UK. Very impressive numbers for a SRPG.
@Zuljaras
Surely it has by now? I think it has sold close to 100 million across all its platforms. That is insane.
I think it's safe to say at this point that the UK likes Crash Bandicoot.
With the exception of Madden 20, I'd rather play any other game on that list than Crash Team Racing. Bought it to see what the hype was all about, played about 50% through it, realized I hadn't enjoyed even a moment of it. Haven't played it again since.
Wow, what a short time at the top, almost pathetic really. This makes me really think this is the final nail in the coffin of the Fire Emblem franchise, getting whacked like a silly little boy so easily has to be a complete embarrassment. This, coupled with them hiring a disgusting pervert voice act-individual, this failure is one of the biggest stories of the year --- not just in video games either, it's really the most newsworthy thing happening right now.
My only concern here is that this sinking Fire Emblem ship doesn't take Nintendo down with it.
CTR was discounted to £23 at Asda, Amazon and a couple of other places last week which explains the sudden return to No.1. I picked it up cheap but can’t get into it.
Fire Emblem has done really well for a Switch-exclusive SRPG in the U.K. Great to see.
6 Switch exclusives (or at least games that aren’t on PS4/XB1) along with 5 multiplats that are on Switch-including Number 1-really shows how well things are going for Nintendo in the U.K. It’s night and day compared to the Wii U era
@MS7000 I think it won't break a million. Nintendo hasn't been marketing it enough.
@Patron Trolling much?
@8bitforever I only played one or two of the original games on Playstation at a friend's way back, so I have no nostalgic attachment to the series, but I remember them being quite fun, though frustratingly difficult at times. What is bad about the remade trilogy?
@Patron Oh yes, because Nintendo were DEFINITELY counting on Fire Emblem to keep them afloat. Whatever will they do now that it has failed them so badly? And how will they weather the worldwide uproar about the voice actor who was hired to voice exactly five lines in the game, which is after all one of their absolute biggest franchises?
Nintendo is DOOMED, I tell you.
@Patron
Fastest-selling Fire Emblem game ever in the UK by a huge margin is going to "sink" Nintendo???
You must be trolling.
@westman98 Yeah, if you read the user's other posts, many of the latest ones are equally exaggerated. I don't understand what people gain from trolling, but it's pathetic behaviour. I guess the user is trying to sound like a stereotypical "social justice warrior" to get the other side heated.
@Quarth it almost reads as a spoof.
@Patron Go home troll.
I figured FE wouldn't last long at top spot, it is somewhat of a niche title after all.
@WiltonRoots Yeah, like a caricature of someone on the left side of the political scale.
@JayJ Considering this is the UK chart, two weeks at number one and still in the top 10 in the third week isn't that bad for a "niche title".
Is GTAV being bought as baby’s first game now? Housewarming present? Frisbee? How is it that they still have consumers at this point? You’d think even folks that don’t like gta would own a copy at this point...
The PS4 + XBO have sold ~150 million units worldwide.
The PS3 + XBO versions of GTAV have sold 40-50 million copies worldwide.
That means there are still 100+ million PS4 + XBO owners without GTAV.
That's why it still sells so much.
@nintendolie I guess it has something to do with everything, for the most part, being peaceful during that section of the game.
I don't see missing items anymore.
@Quarth Yeah it's not bad, the hype over a 1'st party Nintendo IP sure helped, but I doubt this will be one of their more successful games overall. It's audience is a lot more limited than that of Mario games for example.
@JayJ Yeah, it's no Mario or Zelda, but it will do fine.
