If you're craving more action inspired by old-school 3D shooters such as Duke Nukem, DOOM and Quake, then keep an eye out for Trigger Happy Interactive's upcoming release Turbo Overkill - a "brutal cyberpunk FPS" coming to the Nintendo Switch (and other platforms) in 2022.
This ultraviolent cyberpunk FPS is from the creator of the award-winning DOOM II conversion mod Total Chaos. 3D Realms co-founder Scott Miller - the pioneer behind Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein 3D and a number of other classics - will also offer creative support.
“As the guy who helped launch the shooter genre with Wolfenstein 3D, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nukem 3D, Max Payne, and Prey, I haven’t been this excited about an FPS since the golden era of Apogee/3D Realms"
As the player, you'll take control of a mercenary named Johnny Turbo who must clean up his crime-ridden hometown known as "Paradise".
"In this Blade Runner-meets-DOOM hellscape, Johnny finds the city’s entire population possessed by Syn, a rogue AI, and its army of augmented minions. Desperate for enough money to outrun his past mistakes, Johnny takes on the impossible job of destroying the greatest AI ever created. Rival bounty hunters want to claim the prize first… nothing is easy in paradise."
Turbo Overkill also has a number of unique features such as a "Hero Time" - described as a new form of slow-motion with a twist, and the protagonist has a chainsaw leg! Players will take advantage of all of this as they work their way through two dozen stages filled with secrets, bonus arena stages, action-packed combat and puzzles.

If there are news on Physical release please update
Absolute before day one purchase.
Cripes! This looks a bit good, doesn't it!
Definitely loving this, will look forward to it.
Looks great.
A CE physical with a Johnny Turbo figure please.
so Madworld, Doom, Blood Dragon, and several other games all in one. If it delivers, I'm very interested.
That video preview was NOT running on Switch hardware. Switch owners will be lucky to get 720p and 30fps. And MUCH lower resolution assets.
Okay, I'm potentially interested. Some of those weapons look insane. Hopefully it's as fun to play as it looks.
@xphyle you do realize there are several games on Switch of this graphical style that look and run like in this trailer right?
Probably will be 30 fps with high asset graphics and include a performance mode. The downgrade you suggest is ridiculous
@Flashlink99 keep dreaming. 30 fps will be the target. Much lower resolution. Watch.
Mad Doom World, I can dig it.
Removed - flaming/arguing
Looks cool, can’t wait to see the upgrade 3DS graphics. 😝
A chainsaw leg eh?
Bayonetta 2 Salamandra: "Am I joke to you?!"
@xphyle @Flashlink99 It is worth pointing out when trailers are used for higher-end systems to advertise for the Switch. Seems to happen a lot on multi-platform releases, and makes me take pause whenever I see a trailer. This game looks like it could be a fun time, but I too, highly doubt this thing is gonna look that smooth on Switch.
Doom actions are back....with gore...
@Flashlink99 I know it's fun to pretend the switch is a super powerful console. But here in reality it's not. Too many third party games have to make significant sacrifices to graphics just to maintain a stable fps.
@Frailbay30 never said it’s a powerhouse of a console, for power there is Steam Deck. I just saw Xphyle’s comment like a troll attempt as it made it sound like it will run and look like N64-level of sh*t. Miracles can be worked out with Switch’s limited hardware, hence stuff like Crysis, Doom Eternal, Alien Isolation and such. Is it wrong for me to try being a little more optimistic about the game’s potential on Switch?
Apogee's newest game, and that alone makes me interested. It's great to have them back as a publisher.
This...looks.....AWESOME! That visual style with retro and modern combined is killer. Love it.
Yes this is my type of game, just wishlisted on Steam and I can't wait for it to release. The last few years have been great for fans of classic FPS games with the likes of the Doom releases, Quake, soon to be Powerslave and this
@GrailUK it certainly does, the Switch is a handheld FPS beast and Prodeus is coming to it too
@carlos82 Oh nice! That looks rather meaty as well!
@carlos82 Don't forget Turok 1 & 2 and the Serious Sam Collection!
That's a day 1 buy for me. I almost didn't click the story, they really should have mentioned it was a new Apogee game in the title, it's kind of a big deal.
Actually, this looks pretty good. I may buy this game.
Pretty cool looking. Really liking most of these type of 90s 3D shooters are coming back on Switch, both in the form of pre-releases and in this case, a new game inspired by the classics.
Wow this looks so good.
I'm getting this on Switch or PC I don't care. I need this game in my life
