I really don't believe Nintendo will use as the last Smash Ultimate character ever a third party one. It will be a first party (that could be anything, a Gen8 Pokemon, a stand alone Pikmin, the Termina's moon, Sakurai itself...) or they will release a season pass 3 sometime

Sakurai itself should be cool, but after he complained about be a meme, i really doubt he will let it happen

Back in April, the GoldenEye trademark was renewed for use in video game software. Next week, the new James Bond film will be released in the UK and other territories. While I do think the chances are slim the final character is 007, I do think they’re better than zero and the timing would be just right to coincide with the release of the new film.

@ArcadeEighty If it is related with any working project (sometimes they only do this to hold the trademark), I bet in N64 online, virtual console or even a new remeke or wii remaster. And every character until now was born in a videogame (007 was born in books)

On the topic of smash fighter pass why does one and two cost 55$? I don’t want to pay a full price just for some DLC it should be like 30$ altogether

Hopefully they finally announce it and then Sakurai says he's really done with the game. It's such an annoyance that every direct devolves to "What's the next character?"

I for one am happy to see a game get continued support three years in. The pandemic has pushed everything back--and if it wasn't for that, we probably would've been done with the fighter passes in 2020.

I don’t really play smash anymore but do pick it up here and there, I’d love a 3rd pass but I think it’s pretty clear this is it. Whoever they choose to end it with I imagine it’s no one anyone will expect. It needs to be pretty special tho to be the end to the biggest smash we will probably ever see. I’d be happy with chief, crash, waluigi, or some ancient relic from Nintendo’s past like excitebike but my guess will be something to celebrate the anniversary for Zelda. I’d say a 3 in one character like Pokémon trainer. Classic versions of link, Zelda, and ganon representing bearers of the triforce.

Crash this year then Waluigi will kick off the start of a 4-fighter Fighter's Pass 3 running through 2022/2023.

Anyone hoping for a third pass is setting themselves up for disappointment seeing as how Sakurai very clearly said this is the last character for Ultimate. Anyway, my crazy, wild, never going to happen pick would be Gordon Freeman.

If the final Smash fighter was Rayman, all those crazy Battlefield theories will finally come true.

If the final Smash fighter was Sora, we finally get to say that Sora is featured in a game developed by Sora Ltd.

If the final Smash fighter was Master Chief, we'll be getting a masterful theme.

If the final Smash fighter was Doom Slayer, we'll finally get the crossover everyone has long been waiting for.

If the final Smash fighter was Waluigi, we'll finally get the memes in the form of a Fighter.

I'm surprised people are still saying Goku will be in even though Sakurai debunked him as he said he's not originally a video game character.

As far as the Direct goes, we don't know if tomorrow they'll announce a Smash character or not. I think there's usually a tweet going on beforehand to remind people to expect something. But I don't see it happening.

However if it does, I'm betting money on either Ryu Hayabusa or Crash Bandicoot.

Those are the only two logical choices I can come up with.

my two character hopes are crushed already. Smashed I would say even. Both Shantae and Alucard are in but one is non playable and the 2nd is the equivalent of non playable. They could add Willy Wonka and I wouldn’t care. Just please make the other parts of the direct good. Id love to see some Zelda and maybe that rumored castlevania advance 3 pack today. Also please put SOTN on switch too? Holy crap Konami take it from Sony its YOUR game.

@Hero-of-WiiU compared to other fighting games both passes are cheap for what you get.

The majority of fighting games season passes cost the same on average for each character (average 5 for each character) but smash Bros also gives you a stage for each fighter too while others may not give you a stage or they may give you 1 or 2.

Yeah, Waluigi ain't happening, and neither is Fighters Pass 3, lol.

First time commenting here, and I'm surprised that no one is mentioning one of the biggest franchises that are still unrepresented: Resident Evil.
I think that Leon Kennedy is perfect for Smash (RE4 was even a Gamecube exclusive for a while).
If Leon doesn't make it I would like Lara Croft, Rayman or Paper Mario.

1) It's not about talking to people, it's about not wanting to see chat go "when's smash?" Whenever something gets announced that isn't smash. I don't expect everyone to read my comments but it gets incredibly annoying to see chat flooded with smash fanboys, especially those that throw a tantrum when the direct doesn't announce anything smash related. It's almost as if to some people Nintendo is just Smash at this point.

2) Captain Falcon is crying right now man...

I'm sure it will be a first party character no one expected.
Thinking of Metroid Dread and its marketing campaign, it would make sense for Nintendo to bring another fighter from this franchise.

Sakurai has already said that Sora would not roll, as he is a character that Disney also has rights to. It's not simple. Goku is not a video game character, Smash only has EXCLUSIVE game characters.
I would venture to say it's Crash...

I really hope they don't waste much time on a Smash Bros. Fighter announcement. One extra feature in one game (even a game as big as Smash) is not worth the 5 - 10 mins they spend on it.

I would love the protagonist from Astral Chain, 9S/2B from NieR Automata, Aloy from HZD or Jesse from Control. All of these characters have some interesting and unique fighting/combo/powers that I think would fit in well with Smash.

Just...someone bright and colourful and not an anime human/humanoid please. Part of what makes Smash so much more than the clones of it, it the variety in characters it has. And that's visual variety as much as anything, the last 3 fighter pass characters don't feel as varied as I'd hoped, they're all anime people of realistic proportion. I know they have unique gimmicks, but I do also need to be able to distinguish between them on the battlefield.

Farewell, Smash Ultimate. Speculation has been fun.
My Final Speculations:
I feel nintendo will end off the biggest fighting game in history like they started it: FAN SERVICE.
In the beginning, We got Ridley, the Inklings, and K. Rool.
Now, we could get:
Waluigi
Master Chief
Rayman
Some unexpected character that we never knew we wanted, but sakurai did and he gave us because he's a LEGEND.

Think about it - as a protagonist from what is a megacrossover franchise in itself, she could even summon (and gameplay-wise, maybe even temporarily transform into) a range of other characters, providing room for all your waluigis and such. 😎 Granted, it sounds unlikely after DQ Hero and the Blade girls already boasted a similar gimmick, but since we're in the realm of relentless daydreaming here anyway...
