It didn't even cross my mind, but of course they'll charge sales tax on these themes. I feel like everything is twice the price it should be (99 cents plus tax for polka dots?), so for now I'm sticking with Free Blue.
I've always felt the Virtual Console prices have been a bit too high. I would be more inclined to spend more money on more games if they'd drop the prices.
Just adding myself as someone who already owns most of the games being offered for free. Why not just give out eShop credit? That makes a lot more sense.
I hope this game is so easy it pisses people off. It took me a long time to realize that I actually don't enjoy a lot of games. As a kid, I saw the box art and screenshots and wanted to dive into the worlds they were showing me. Once you start playing, though, it's this confined experience driven by conflict. I have enough conflict in real life. While it may be nice to have a challenge now and then, I find most times I just want to enjoy the digital worlds without all the hassle. I suppose that means I'm asking for a virtual reality experience, rather than an actual game with points and penalties. Points don't do anything for me. If I'm playing pinball, I couldn't care about the score. I just want to have a fun experience. The visuals and music are what I'm paying and playing for. Kirby's Epic Yarn, while still a pretty standard platformer, was a pleasant and relaxing experience. This new Yoshi game looks to be very similar, so I'm really looking forward to it.
I played the original Fossil Fighters and enjoyed it quite a bit. The sequel was a bit underwhelming for me, but Frontier looks to have a lot of fresh ideas. I'm looking forward to this.
This looks like it could be interesting, but it could also end up being like Crystal Chronicles. Most of the time when Final Fantasy and Nintendo get together, the results are pretty weak. I've always wanted a nice FF experience on a Nintendo system, though.... and action-RPG instead of RPG sounds good to me. All the FF content without the boring battle systems. At least, that would be nice. The whole class system sounds like it may be needlessly complex, which could ruin the experience. Whatever the case, I'll be keeping an eye on this.
@aaronsullivan I'd say it's both... which is why I pointed out both items. Based on your comments, it doesn't sound like you disagree with me... except on the boundary between inspiration and copying. Homage is fine, but I feel (in my opinion) that these elements are too close for comfort, and demonstrates a lack of creativity on Nintendo's part.
The reveal that Link was inspired by Peter Pan is actually a disappointment, and it also displays a lack of creativity at the time. I think it's ok to take a little of this and and little of that as inspiration (that's to be expected), but with a now high-profile franchise like The Legend of Zelda, I expect a little more care to be taken to keep things original. I don't mind if something familiar is mixed in, but this just feels too close for me. The elements are too recognizable.
Of course this is only a criticism of the video they've shown, and likely won't apply too much to the game itself on the whole... but I think it's worth pointing out... which is why I did.
I also feel like the wonder of huge open worlds is kind of an old thing now. I'm not saying I don't want that in a Zelda game, but I hope that's not their trump card. This mini-trailer also reminds me a lot of that opening action scene in Princess Mononoke. I know a lot of other movies, cartoons, etc have copied that scene, but I kind of expect more from Nintendo. I want to expect more, but more and more of their stuff is feeling like a rehash or a copy these days. I'm sure there's still room for this Zelda game to impress, but to be honest, I got bored about half way through Skyward Sword and never completed it... which for me was a big deal, because I've loved the Zelda series since the beginning.
That little bit of piano music for the action, along with the slow-mo footage, is a bit too similar to the church fight in Advent Children. http://youtu.be/FTwgHPE1rsc?t=1m10s
That's pretty funny, actually. I hadn't seen the Luigi thing yet. Just a small note to point out for some people, though. The clip was aired on the Fox 5 network, which is actually quite different from the Fox News network. It's pretty clear they're joking about it and it was just included as a little bit of fun.
I had just bought DKC: Tropical Freeze yesterday and was planning to play with a friend last night. I even made sure to download the software update ahead my guest's arrival. But when I booted it up to start playing, it was system update and gamepad update time (two separate updates?). Thankfully it went pretty quickly, but man... it seems like every time I buy a new game, I have to wait too long before I can start playing it. What is this, a Sony system??
I'm not sure this game was scored on its merits. It sounds like the reviewer is just suffering from old RPG burnout. If this was the first game available in the 3DS eShop when it launched, I expect the score would have been much higher. Maybe scoring is just too subjective in general.
Is it just me, or is it hard to see the characters in the screenshot with Fire Mario? It's just that the backgrounds are so detailed, and you have this skinny character in the front. It's kind of hard to tell what you're looking at.
That second video is interesting. At first I wasn't paying close attention and thought the figure was actually on his desk, though I did notice the laptop screen had an artificial image. Once Food Fight appeared on the desk, it was clear that we had a paste-up job going on. Clever, though.
Dreamcast was a very good system, as was the N64. I would actually enjoy one of these suckers. Since data was saved on the cartridges, you could start a game on the home console, put the cartridge in your portable, and continue the same game on the go.
Unless I'm totally wrong about it saving on the cartridge. The brain is tired.
I'm getting to the point where 3D graphics just aren't doing it for me. In a game like this, those little blasts of crisp 2D artwork are the most appealing part of the presentation. The 3D stuff just isn't doing it for me. I know it's the 3DS, but somehow it seems like we're stuck in PS1 land when it comes to the visuals.
What keeps me buying physical copies is... well... When it comes to 3DS, I'm a sucker for pack-ins like artbooks and soundtrack CDs. I like extras, and the download-only games don't come with that stuff. The Wii U games tend to not come with that stuff, but I'm just in the habit of buying a physical game. I don't want to buy an extra storage device just for downloads, and my 3DS SD card is always maxing out with my downloaded games. With more download-only titles like Senran Kagura Burst (in NA), though, it looks like the decision is being made for us.
Unfortunately, Arino's voice acting isn't as funny as his actual reactions in the show. I wish they'd use sound clips from the show to get lines with a funnier delivery. Maybe he's trying to sound like his kid self here. I don't know. It just doesn't quite work for me.
I remember being frustrated with the controls and disappointed by some of the graphics. Parts of the game were extremely hard for me, but overall I thought it was a good experience. I never did play the version of the game that featured a playable werewolf character, but I wouldn't mind giving it a try. An HD remake of this game would be pretty fantastic, I think.
I don't understand the TVii service. Is the image of the field supposed to display player locations? I'm not seeing anything, and the text is stuck on the first play of the game. The clock won't update either.
I'd like to see something very different from Nintendo, but not like this. My main beef with tablets and touch-screen phones is that they're vulnerable to damage in your pocket or handbag. I had a phone whose screen was damaged, and I still have no idea how it happened. It was simply in my pocket. What I do know is that the old flip-top phones never had that sort of issue. Those suckers were tough. I view a handheld game system the same way. I want it to be tough. Durable. Portable. I want it to fit in my pocket comfortably.
And, quite frankly, I would like it to be called GameBoy. That's one thing I like about this concept.
This is one of my top NES games. The soundtrack alone is amazing, but the level design and creature design is so cool. It's just a lot of fun. Though to be honest, I don't think I ever beat it without Game Genie. I'm such a cheater. But doing a quick Life Force Game Genie playthrough was always a ton of fun. Man, the box art is amazing, too. Such a great package. That's the biggest problem with these digital releases. You don't get the delicious Konami box art. You don't get the instruction manual with the hand-drawn character art on the inside. I love that stuff so much. The pack-ins were a big part of my enjoyment of a game back in the day.
Gotta have this in North America. I love the anime and manga. Can't get enough. The Flash game was really hard for me, but this battle system looks a bit easier to handle.
The whole "Free Digital Download" thing is a real mistake, in my opinion. I can't believe you can buy a new system "bundle" and then not have either a physical or digital copy of the game in-hand. You're buying a promise of a game, and right now people can't cash in on that promise. What a disaster. And then there's the eShop, etc... I want access, but I can't get on. shakes head Don't they plan ahead?
Actually, nothing is confirmed for 2015. I watched this broadcast last night on TV. The guy said 2015 is the earliest it could happen because that's when they'd receive the rules. He also said 2015 is "optimistic" and 4-5 years is probably likely... so that would be 2017-2018. Just gotta be careful when you say "confirmed."
I'd love to see the original style of Legend of Zelda, or the more stretched-out style of Adventure of Link to make an appearance in the next big home console Zelda release. Back when those games were released, you had to use your imagination, but the game manuals provided enough reference to really flesh out the game experience. The technology now exists to better translate those character and create designs into CG reality, so I think it would make sense to give that a go.

Gotta have it on the 3DS. I find NES Pinball to be extremely fun and relaxing. I have no need for it on the Wii U since my original copy and NES work fine. Having it on the go would be really nice, though. Make it happen, Nintendo!

Downloading the demo now. Nice treat from Club Nintendo.

Re: E3 2014: Hyrule Warriors Not Part of Zelda Timeline, More Like an Avengers Spin-Off
Avengers is actually a pretty bad example, considering the lengths Marvel has gone to to tie all the relevant films together with a single continuity.

Giant Robot looks like a lot of fun. Right up my alley. It's too bad we can't get a game version of Big O that plays like this.
