Virtual WarZone is great. The kind of game I always wanted on the VB and it doesn't disappoint. The fact that it's compatible with a link cable (which no official games were) and a rumble pack (not even contemplated back in the day) is extra awesome.
I fell in love with this game when a local-ish shop had an import N64 setup with it. So satisfying to battle the waves and put together a speedy lap, whilst maybe throwing in some fancy tricks to show off. I always have a great time when I go back to it.
But yeah, PAL version was rough. I encountered in on a demo unit in an Argos and was horrified. At least it's just a case of downloading it in a different app if we need to should it come to Switch.
Wow. I had a room dedicated to villager photos in New Leaf but I figured this wasn't a thing in New Horizons. There's plenty that I talk to lots (and they've never been annoyed at me) and help out/give pressies, but... nothing.
@Moroboshi876 Not a fighting game, but Magical Drop III had story/endings on the JPN version (where the English version did not) and a different version of one of the other modes. Off-hand, I can't think of anything else, although sometimes there are differences like one of the sports games which had cities or countries for teams depending on which version you were playing.
@Perryg92 According to the listing there's no region lock:
"The SuperCIC chip in SNES games allow the board to run in any region, but there will be some speed differences when played on a PAL console, since the PAL consoles have a different refresh rate than NTSC consoles."
Of course, if it's a standard US shell (as the images suggest) you'll need to remove the casing or find some other way to get the thing to fit.
The Virtual Boy community has come up with some decent stuff over the years and best of all gave us a working version of Bound High. The games (some complete, some demos) don't necessarily benefit from being on the VB, but then that was true of a lot of the official releases too.
Hyper Fighting is fantastic and Mario's Tennis recently got multiplayer. Other projects look promising too (a port of Snatcher). I look forward to seeing what else the community comes up with.
Good review. I backed this on Kickstarter (there's a chance I'm a puzzle solution when playing) and was very pleased with how it turned out. One of my favourite games this year and I'll probably grab it again on Switch.
@gcunit Don't think I've played it myself, but apparently you can punch and kick in Football Champ (Taito, 1990) as well as knock the ref over, so it might be that.
@EmirParkreiner Thanks for your comments. I felt it was worth mentioning why they weren't starting with an ACA version of the first game in this case.
In an earlier draft I brought up the Psikyo connection, but with that happening after the first game it became a lot of waffle. Still, I feel you're right and I could have made a brief mention of it.
Ignoring Ketchup v Ketchup matches, Team Ketchup seemed to be winning ~80% of the time (based on my own matches), so this took me by surprise. Oh well, congratulations Mayo people.
@readyletsgo previous models have had UK releases, so if you keep an eye out they should pop up at some point at the likes of funstock and Amazon. I think the last one was even available from Argos.
Even if there are other versions of the game that cut them, it definitely feels wrong leaving out the bonus stages. Anyway the Dreamcast port of Super Turbo included them (although they had to be turned on in a menu) and Turbo Revival on GBA had two of them, so it's not like they disappeared in 1994, never to be seen again.
Kinda expected this, what with the release date fast approaching and Nintendo having not mentioned anything about it.
I imagine people will be too busy with BotW at launch to notice, but hopefully it's not too far off. I did wonder if VC-wise the Switch would offer the same as the Wii U eShop offerings, but it's looking like a "buy them all again" job. Hopefully there'll be a transfer option and sensible pricing for new releases.
I've done this myself, but it's interesting to see someone else's take on it. It seems an obvious idea now but I'd never thought of a line of blocks in front of the flag pole to recreate the two exits.
@samuelvictor I think I've still get the 7" around somewhere.
@shani Well the d-pad's useful for adjustments on the speed/acceleration meter. Re: control stick : Any sections where you use just the drift buttons would of course be OK, but the rest of the time it's a lot different. There's a knock on effect too. If you take one corner different to how you used to, you end up approaching the next a different way, which messes up the one after... and so on.
@jswhitfield8 As well as the SGB (mentioned by @RuppeClock) the locking tab was missing from the GB Pocket and GB Light as well. So there were a few opportunities for people to stick them in the wrong Game Boy.
@Chunky_Droid No you've got it right. The black carts were indeed dual mode.
The lack of headphone jack on the SP is one of those things I always forget about until I go to plug some headphones in. I have the adaptor and even headphones with the EXT connector on (some of the GBA Video films bundled them in), but I've rarely used them.
@Chandlero Actually all PAL versions of this game were single language, so it's likely to be the English 50Hz version. Though why Nintendo have stuck that up instead of the German one I don't know.
@Nagi_Nagisa That's strange. I guess they've stuck the wrong version up by mistake as there should be German, French, Spanish and Italian versions available. Poor Professor Eich.
@samuelvictor The Mario 3 one was quite simple. IIRC you had to make your way round to Bowser whack him with your tail, then repeat. Good for a quick go now and then although the down button on mine broke quite quickly.
Good review. I remember wanting this after seeing it in an issue of Super Play. I finally picked it up a few years back... and couldn't find my mouse. I tried with the controller instead, but that wasn't ideal and in the end I didn't do much with it. I'll have to find my mouse and have another go with it.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Spider-Man Game On Nintendo Systems?
I''ve not played a lot of these, but I loved the one that was on N64 (although I played it on Playstation and later Dreamcast).

Right, that's it. I'm evicting the lot of them.
Re: Review: Smash Tennis - One Of The Best Sports Games Of The 16-Bit Era
@NipponGameQuest No only 2P. At least it's that way on the Japanese app which got the game when it launched (instead of Super Tennis).
Re: Feature: Forget Sonic, These Are the 10 Worst Video Game Movies Ever
Some real stinkers here, but DOA is great bonkers fun.

Re: Review: Arcade Archives Donkey Kong (Switch eShop)
@OorWullie Just checked and you're right (high score has it too). Awesome.
Re: Review: Arcade Archives Donkey Kong (Switch eShop)
@SmaggTheSmug By default diagonals are recognised, but you can disable that in the options if you want to keep it authentic.

@bezerker99 Cheers. That's good to know. I'll give it a go next time around.
Re: Review: Arcade Archives VS. Super Mario Bros. (Switch eShop)
@craigmoss19 There's a "create interrupt save data" option you can use, so if you exit you'll resume from that point next time you launch the game.

Re: Feature: 20 Games That Aren't On The SNES Classic Mini, But Really Should Be
Lots of great suggestions in this comments section (including a number that almost made it on to the list). Thanks for reading/commenting people.
@KingMike I hadn't realised that, but having just looked it up I see you are correct. Surprised they didn't bother with it.

The Switch's battery will last "up to 4 hours" - Depending on power saving settings
The right JoyCon will not be included with the Switch Basic package

If I recall correctly, the Games Animal popped up in a later episode that series due to the broadcast order differing from the production one.
Also: 20 years ago! Yikes!
Re: GAME In-Store Advertising Indicates March 2017 Release For Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
March for Wii U, a bit later for Switch perhaps?
Re: Review: F-Zero X (Wii U / N64)
@toxibunny Yes, that seems to be their chosen look for N64 on Wii U. You can see some sample screenshots in the Miiverse community.

Re: Review: F-Zero X (Wii U / N64)
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yes. If a fix happens we wouldn't want out of date information up on the site.
Re: Random: Game Boy Compatibility Warning Screens Are The Best
@jswhitfield8 As well as the SGB (mentioned by @RuppeClock) the locking tab was missing from the GB Pocket and GB Light as well. So there were a few opportunities for people to stick them in the wrong Game Boy.
@Chunky_Droid No you've got it right. The black carts were indeed dual mode.
Re: Review: Final Fight 3 (New 3DS / SNES)
@ThanosReXXX I suspect you're correct, but I couldn't resist.

Re: Random: Nintendo Acknowledges Virtual Boy After Decades of Passive Denial
The VB is awesome!
Re: Review: Pokémon Snap (Wii U eShop / N64)
@Chandlero Actually all PAL versions of this game were single language, so it's likely to be the English 50Hz version. Though why Nintendo have stuck that up instead of the German one I don't know.

Re: Review: Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (New 3DS / SNES)
@gaga64 Sounds like the DOS port as that had ten speed settings.

Re: Hardware Classics: Pokémon Mini
Not an essential purchase, but it passes the time. Pokémon Tetris is really good though, even with the unlit tiny screen.
Re: Monkey Island Creator, Ron Gilbert, Still Wants to Get the Rights to the Franchise

Re: Review: Choujikuu Yousai Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (SNES)
