Nihombashi Mitsukoshi's Annual Watch Fair offers a platform for the world's best timepiece makers to show off their most outlandish or eye-catching creations, and this year is no exception.
Now in its 19th year, the fair started yesterday and is host to seriously impressive examples of watchmaking, but for Nintendo fans Romain Jerome's Super Mario Bros. watch is likely to be of most interest. We covered it back in 2015, and it's now getting a fresh airing.
Crafted from Titanium and limited to just 85 pieces, this is quite possibly the ultimate watch for a serious Mario fan. The cost to you? Mitsukoshi has advertised the timepiece at $27,000, while the official site claims its just over $16,000. Either way, you're going to have to sell that spare kidney.
Don't forget, there are always more reasonably-priced alternatives.

OK, now that's pretty cool. Though I can't imagine ever spending that amount on a watch. I once bought 2 Rolex's for 1.2K & 3K respectively & thought I was being VERY flash (back when I had more money than sense & no wife/kids), but $27K is just silly!
[Edit] hmm, I'd consider selling a kidney for $27K though, where have you seen those kinds of prices!?
@samuelvictor Kidneys sell much more. In the US, a kidney is worth about $212,000 USD. This watch will only make the money shed its skin.
I can't get my head around people spending so much money on a watch. I felt bad buying a £30 one. I suppose if people want to waste their money on them, it's their choice.
It's a nice looking watch, but I'll never own one.
@Braok Holy crud really? Back in the late 90s as a wreckless teenager who assumed I would be dead by 30 anyway, I semi-seriously looked into it on the primitive internet back then, and could only find very dodgy sounding places with talks of "donating" the kidney for free (as selling them is illegal) and getting "expenses" of a couple grand. Of course, now I'm in my mid thirties & have wife & kids relying on me, I'm less eager to part with one!
@samuelvictor RIP
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend selling that second kidney. You don't need it... for now. If 1 kidney fails after selling 1, your mistake will hit you like Wario's side B.
My goodness, the insane price of that Watch...
@Humphries90 Back before mobile phones became commonplace, watches were more of an essential, and a high quality watch was considered a wise long-term investment & even possible family airloom. The more expensive/exclusive watches also have a crossover with jewelry as well of course. But basically anything over £500 and you are essentially just buying it as a status symbol or to make you feel like you have achieved/accomplished something in life. Of course, when I got older & wiser I realised how ridiculous such things can be, & also that even jewelers can't tell a real watch from a good fake, making them pretty much a complete waste of time... pun intended
@Braok Haha, yeah, that's the thought that stuck in my mind too!
@samuelvictor The Wario's side B part? :^)
If you buy that fugly thing for $27,000 you've let yourself be ripped off. Maybe if it actually looked like someone took more than five mins to slap together the Mario stuff on the face and that's about it.
These examples looks slicker and cooler, imo, and they're both an order of magnitude cheaper too:
@Braok Yes!
@Kirk Oooh that first one is cool! - is that a dedicated watch or an app for a generic Android watch?
I remember seeing these in the Argos catalogue s as a kid and thinking they looked so cool... no idea whether the actual game was any good or not!

The Tetris one was probably more playable, but I'm a sucker for SMB3 stuff...
@samuelvictor The Mario 3 one was quite simple. IIRC you had to make your way round to Bowser whack him with your tail, then repeat. Good for a quick go now and then although the down button on mine broke quite quickly.
Never understood people spending more than £50 on a watch. Too much narcissism
They can keep their expensive watch for that price!
Not really keen. It looks to me like the Mario elements were just thrown at the watch face without a proper design effort. Plus, it has no numbers or incremental units. A watch that sends the message that the wearer has pots of money, but can't tell the time - literally more money than sense.
Sup Ma Bro really is my favourite series.
for that price does it also clean the house?
Is this licensed by Nintendo?
Ha, I remember they have another watch for sale that has actual moon dust on its face. Crazy!
@Kirk those are pretty cool. If I was Nintendo I would make an app like that and sell it for the iWatch and other wearables.
Not a chance in hell
@samuelvictor I think it's just a skin or whatever for some Android watch, but it's def cool.
@Other_Dave Awesome, glad it wasn't utterly terrible. Many LCD games were unplayable back in the day!
@Kirk Ok cool, yeah really nice! I can imagine me using that if I ever get an Android watch.
@AlexOlney Haha good spot!
That's pretty cool, shame about the price tag!
