@Michael0916 I purchased the 3ds, wii u, and switch on day 1. Well, technically 3ds was probably within the first 2 weeks. I have no idea how you formulated anything about who I am. As an early adopter, I actually have some level of first hand experience to make my decision. What a strange, strange comment to make at me.
Likely to not be a wide-spread problem. With that said, it's not a terrible idea to wait a year or so before purchasing new hardware. If you want a new switch right now, and to play the handful of exclusives, yes buy one now. Due to how similar it is to a Switch 1, it also makes a heck of a lot of sense to wait. It's an expensive console and due to the leap in tech, I imagine launch systems will have some issues that will be ironed out in a revision. To me, one of the biggest reasons to wait is Mario Kart 8. For almost any other Nintendo console, releasing a Mario Kart at launch is a stroke of genius. But... with all the DLC that just recently concluded for Mario Kart 8, this was probably the one instance where leading with Mario Kart is not going to put as many butts in seats as it normally would. I blame 8 for being so good, which is not a bad problem to have.
Is Mario Kart World the only first party game available at launch? I haven't been keeping track of the launch as closely as past console launches from Nintendo. If it is the only first party game outside of this tech demo, then I understand the business reason it isn't a pack-in. It's a terrible reason, mind you, but they needed something else to sell us at launch. Besides the camera. And the $100 controllers. And the subscription service. And the... and the.
He's fine, it's just unfortunate that so much time and money is spent on adding fur to things that were fine without fur. This is why games take a billion years and a billion dollars, the focus on graphics has become a bit of a bloated joke, even for Nintendo.
Some easy stuff would be to prompt the user to recreate any item they just broke. Have a top ten of items made easily accessible to make crafting less of a slog. Blackjack too. Lots of blackjack.
@Haruki_NLI You are correct but the PS5 has more RAM. Therefore it is less of a sacrifice. This has been an ongoing balancing act, and one that I don’t think has panned out. The handheld play suffers from the need to be a full fledged console while the console play is hampered by the form factor of a handheld. I’m not a switch hater, it’s the only console I currently use (that and the 3ds) but I’m generally not a fan of how the switch(es) lack focus due to its module design.
@HeadPirate I find your comparison apt. What is even weirder is that the camera isn’t bundled with the system like the Kinect was. So, if for certain a good portion of the 3GB is for the video functionality, this is quite strange and unfortunate. I liked the Kinect, as strange as that sounds, while the camera add on for the switch 2 is just a watered down version that somehow takes up just as much resources.
@MrDocena Sounds like being confused as to why many don’t want chat. Scrapped? I imagine it was quite quick to implement so I see no reason to scrape this minor feature.
I find it a bit odd that some are wondering why many of the comments couldn’t care less about chat. An obvious answer is that Nintendo has a fan base that went so long without it that those that want it already have better options. For those that don’t want it, it’s because as a Nintendo gamer, they really never had a use for it. Plus, to use the camera feature you have to buy a peripheral. Nah, sounds kind of a tacked on feature to me.
Gamers can be awful, awful people. I’m happy that eventually my life drifted away from what was one of my more favorite hobbies. I found Polygon hyperbolic at times, but at least it was a place where actual humans with opinions that appeared to be genuine at times created articles and think pieces. To those to my right, I find it laughable you continue to hate Kotaku. Again, not my favorite cup of tea but I often enjoyed many a writer and article there. Have you to my right been there recently? It’s a hollowed out log with no soul left. I believe there might still be a left bent to their coverage, but I find it hard to believe people are actually writing for them, it stinks of press releases fed into a left adjacent AI. Don’t cheer for the death of the internet. Though I fear many in this world relate more to thoughtless AI then their fellow humans.
@Zufolobelisk That’s correct. At least that’s the plan. 3 years isn’t that long and I have plenty of games to enjoy in the meantime. I’m just trying to be frugal for once, and anything I “miss” will still be available in 3 years.
@N00BiSH Not that I care much either way, but that’s not a great reason. They have various designs of link and Mario, and just came out with the remaster for Returns. It would be weird to erase the donkey Kong country ape from the options of avatars.
On one hand, I really want Nintendo to make more games smaller in scope (like the 3ds eshop games pushmo and Dillion’s rolling western). On the other hand, why is this not a pack in game? I fear that the bean counters will use this games likely low sales to justify the production of nothing but $70+ dollar games.
I would agree. The big difference between past iterations is that Nintendo only does one system in a generation. They used to have a handheld and a home console. As has been my issue with the original switch, the problem is that it isn’t the best handheld nor the best home console. I’m sure it will sell billions, probably, but this will be 10+ years working with the exact same hardware design. I know there is no going back, but I’m starved for a handheld from Nintendo, one that actually has handheld games developed by Nintendo. Nintendo only makes console games now, and that makes me sad.
64 GB cards likely have a heavy cost so I appreciate any company that uses them. I do think Nintendo should eat some of the cost though to help publishers make use of the larger cards.
I’m probably getting to old but this is the first time I really couldn’t care about the next system from Nintendo. My switch battery is just terrible right now, but maybe I’ll just buy an extra charger to offset this (unplugging from dock would be a pain). Especially with all the new tracks for Mario kart 8, I don’t think leading with a new Mario kart was the best idea. Eh, I’ll get this thing in a couple years, unless my president continues to make us all poorer as he exploits any and every avenue to sucker this country out of every last cent he can.
The new levels for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. What a wonderful game. It’s a shame I won’t be able to play them for a while because there is no way in hell I’m buying a switch 2 anytime soon. I’m so dissatisfied with what I’ve seen so far.
I like the concept of the two mice, but I do have a hard time picturing it being used often or to great effect. It’s also the only new thing the switch 2 does that the switch cannot. The camera too, I guess, but I also picture that going into the dust bin soon enough. The issue with Nintendo and their various gimmicks as of late is the lack of follow through. Instead of just having the one game showcase what is possible, there needs to be at least three substantial games at or close to launch to really sell the idea.
As someone that loved the controls of Kid Icarus Uprising (I know I’m crazy but also proof that I do enjoy some off the wall ideas), I have no faith this new control scheme will be properly supported.
I would love to see him make a new Kid Icarus game, but I fully trust him to make a great regardless. Even smash, a game I’m not much a fan of, is obviously a well made and well thought out game. Just like just about anything Sakaurai directs.
@N64-ROX lol this made me laugh. A bit mean, but also fair. This thing I never used before is slightly better. I do hope the rumble is better and more importantly actually used in many games.
These jerks just couldn’t splurge on a TB of internal storage. It’s the stupidest place to cut corners. I wish I had the data but I’m certain that people download less as their card or internal storage starts to reach its limit. Hell, give us 2 TB of storage, again, the money is in the downloads. As a parent, let me also complain about the lack of storage on leapfrog products. Same thing, stupid place to skimp. And I’m sure you all wanted to know my opinion on the limited storage on leapfrog products.
I need a new roof, so I’m out. The system seems fine, but I was hoping for something of a fun gimmick. The mouse controllers, but not enough. The camera? The most boring silly peripheral yet from Nintendo. I do hope to get a switch 2 in about 2 years. For now, my OG switch from 2017 with one hour battery life at this point will have to do.
@Ryu_Niiyama These cards are cheap to make, and can potentially make 10x the investment in production. I know you tend to be pro-just about anything, but to spin card shortages from a company as large as Pokemon is just being too much of a sycophant. The rarity is what propels these sales to such heights, but it does appear that Pokemon has made their cards a touch too rare to even benefit their own bottom line.
@Spider-Kev What an absurd take on Chris Pratt. He is in no way a “PC” actor, though anyone who thinks in such a way wont be convinced otherwise. He’s a terrible actor, sure, but certainly not PC.

@Jayenkai Hopefully, this one leans more into new songs and characters. Megamix is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but that was more of an homage to the entire series. Which as you point out, does make it hard to top.
One of my favorite game series. I should have known we would see a game on the tail end of the Switch's lifecycle. That's how Rhythm Heaven operates, it closes a system with a real banger. I sure hope it ain't $60, as these games tend to be a bit more on a budget side of things (though someone correct me if I am wrong, as I thought the Wii game was $30-40, and the 3ds game was $30).
So, nothing was confirmed, besides that the letter C does exist and it does appear on this button. I do not think we were wondering what letter, if any, was going to appear on the button. Like most buttons, I believe we are curious at what it does.
Candy. The button makes candy, or buys me candy, or I buy it candy. Something with candy.
Is this anything like Animal Crossing? I've tried Animal Crossing three times and it seems those games just aren't for me. I just don't want to get burned again as I assume this will be $60 bucks. I do like that this game exists even if it might not be for me.
@TheColorRed I am not worried about it, I just wanted to opine on the reaction to the direct. I was just expecting a bunch of $60 dollar remasters, back to back to back to back, until the screen faded to black. I think for some reason most would have preferred that, which just blows my mind. Plus, I must admit that Rhythm Heaven is always a welcome way to end any console generation. They did it with the Wii, the 3ds, and I think its proper to the same with the Switch. What a fun game series from what seems to be a mostly bygone era for Nintendo.
People are crazy. I mean, you people are crazy. If this direct was "too good", then the Switch 2 would seem pointless. For a console on its way out, I think this highlighted that hey, there are at least 4 first party games coming to the Switch 1 that aren't just overly expensive remasters. Compared to the sendoff to the 3ds, which I think did stink (as a sendoff, not the system as I think it's my favorite system ever), it was a good direct. Again, you people are crazy and impossible to please. I have been a bit negative on Nintendo throughout the entire Switch generation, as I just don't think their lineup is as creative as it was when they needed to support two unique systems. But... this is a solid sendoff to the system that killed the era of two interesting systems during a generation. Now I am rambling, and I don't care.
Cool guy, I appreciate his existence in the gaming world. I wish I didn’t have to sell my soul to the company I work for, but I’m not very creative. Video games aren’t my forte anymore, but I still like keeping up with the going’s on.
With the staggered release schedule of Nintendo consoles these days, it puts them in a good spot. Probably another 3 years before the next PlayStation so the lack of power is less noticeable. I just hope the dock does something interesting this go around.
Eh, I don’t mean to be a hater but I preferred both the ds/wii era and 3ds/wii u era considerably more. It probably doesn’t help that as I’ve gotten older, I just have less time to spend playing video games. I think the switch has compromised handheld gaming. I know it’s a handheld, but it lacks games designed for handheld play. Plus, the gimmick this go around hasn’t led to any fun things. I still remember playing No More Heroes and getting phone calls on my wiimote. I know, I know many think of these sort of things as gimmicks. I think differently, that’s all.
This is a bit silly. Of course, ideally, we could buy these games before they are delisted. Rights to games is a nightmare and the deal Nintendo or anyone else for that matter likely stipulated that the game has to go. This is why subscription services often suck. It’s the new normal though. I don’t like it, but I won’t pretend there is an easy answer.
Yeah I can see it lasting over 100 years. My back of the envelope calculations say there will be almost 100000 Pokemon by then. Or hats. Lots of hats for pikachu.
I really wish this game did poorly. DK Wii is great, but to release after tropical freeze, and at $60? This was a Nintendo select game. As a cranky adult, I really hate how Nintendo no longer does dynamic pricing. I suppose there is the occasional $50 game. To further rant, I wish Nintendo still made games designed around handheld play.

Re: Pokémon Company's CEO Reckons Series Can Reach Its 100th Anniversary
Yeah I can see it lasting over 100 years. My back of the envelope calculations say there will be almost 100000 Pokemon by then. Or hats. Lots of hats for pikachu.
Re: Final Minecraft Movie Trailer Still Hasn't Convinced Us On The Big-Screen Adaptation
Minecraft animated show, sure. Movie with Jack Black? Horrible.
Re: Japanese Charts: Donkey Kong Can't Keep Up With Like A Dragon's Ship-Shape Debut
