@earthinheritor Well, I think there is a difference between a game that has sexual themes and games that sex is the central theme. I don’t care, mind you, but there would be a difference. Also, many cultures deem sex as more abhorrent than violence. Not that I agree, but it’s not a mystery. Inconsistent in way, but pretty standard that it’s the sex and curse words that get things mature ratings. I could make a game where you are a spaceman who crashes on a planet filled with creatures you command. They are killed while you kill things. I think I’m going to call it Pikeman. Yep. Pikeman.
@victordamazio It’s censorship. In One Piece. And in this boobs game. It’s censorship, as censorship can occur at the private or public level. Is that your point? Of course not. Your point is to point our hypocrisy, which is usually done by people with a bone to pick with something entirely unrelated.
@victordamazio Just because someone else is wrong, as I agree that the person you just replied to is off their rocker, that doesn’t mean that you are correct. Society has a line, and that line is manipulated by all sorts of consortiums.
@victordamazio Uh huh. Deep stuff. Religion bad but no longer the enemy. Progressives are the new bad. Yawn. You must be a libertarian. And male. Though I repeat myself.
Not that this matters, but people seem to confuse 1st amendment protections and censorship. The first amendment only guarantees its protections from government entities. Private citizens and companies are not required to follow this amendment in how they conduct business. It’s more complicated and I’m not using enough words to describe this, but I’m on my phone so there.
Censorship does not only occur on a governmental level. I can censor my playboys at home, if I wish. Censorship can be good or bad, and usually that distinction is in the eye of the beholder.
@HefHughner I don’t know why games have to be different than other forms of media. You stream your movies and music, but games are special? It sucks and I would hate to only have the option for cloud gaming, but when used correctly, cloud gaming can and will offer something that your local machine just can’t offer. That was supposed to be the point of cloud gaming at least for the consumer. I would agree that I don’t trust any company to use cloud for wholly consumer benefiting purposes.
I’m not opposed to cloud gaming but the switch just does a terrible job at connecting to the internet. It’s always going to have slower download and upload speeds than practically any other device in your house. If I’m not mistaken, it seems to have a worse WiFi receiver than my 3ds. Cloud is fine, if a device couldn’t play a game natively. So for example Hitman is fine and a good thing. Kingdom hearts isn’t since that is cloud gaming out of laziness and greed. This game? Well, it’s a marvel game and I am so tired of all this superhero crap so it’s not for me. It’s a shame it runs like garbage. To those wondering why this game stinks on cloud but others work well? That should be obvious. The machines this game is actually running on plus the infrastructure used to broadcast the signal back to your system must blow. Please remember that just because something is on the cloud, that doesn’t mean all cloud based applications are created equally.
@BloodNinja The brand name for Activision and Blizzard are at all time lows. They assumed they would not be fully absorbed under new management. I’m not sure how long you’ve worked but any shake up like this gets people worried.
Dang. This stinks. Not unexpected, mind you, with the announcement that they would be a support studio. In hindsight, this should have been seen as inevitable.
With that in mind, the timing is moronic. As if we needed more proof that not only is Activision Blizzard run by scum bags, they are run by very dumb scumbags. They should have waited until next year for this announcement. I suppose I can understand the “in for a penny, in for a pound” philosophy of this decision, but seems to be very poor timing. Though part of this could be Activision looking to downsize and get people to leave voluntarily so they don’t have to provide any severance pay. All in all, Activision is now the worst company in video games. By a long shot.
This stinks and I think the price for admission is too high. With that said, people are complaining about a lack of fog? That’s silly. Fog was used due to a lack of draw distance. This was likely intentionally removed because who wants mysterious fog blocking the screen?
The switch was a needed hit but I truly miss the ds/wii and 3ds/wii u eras. The 3ds is my favorite system ever but it seems the switch does a little bit of everything but nothing exceptionally. I also miss the smaller game releases from Nintendo. With everything HD now, even combining the handheld and console divisions has resulted in far fewer games a year.
@Lordplops It’s a game that uses old boards. This was not anyone’s baby. It’s a cash grab. Nothing wrong with a cash grab, but this game isn’t going to be something that people talk about for years to come.
@sixrings They we’re bulwark against these practices. They aren’t anymore. It’s the industry as a whole, we have been conditioned to accept this. It made no sense for Nintendo to be against something that gamers seemingly have allowed and accepted.
@Travisemo007 It’s weird to me because it seems the game caters more to casual than competitive as a whole. Eh, I guess we all see what we want to see as the problem when we are dissatisfied with something. Me included.
@BeautyandtheBeer The banning I can understand but the logic used their can be iffy at best. What I dislike the most is bans on certain methods of battle. Like baton pass for example. I think it’s built into the game and since stealth rocks seems fine, and every team runs them, if baton pass was valid it would make more people run haze and whirlwind which makes for a more interesting game.
@Ludovsky Which is strange because playing against your friends is more tedious than any gen since WiFi became available. I have no idea what the hell happened with gen 8. So many stupid decisions on top of a lackluster effort equaled the worst generation by far. In my book, of course. It’s the worst due to the potential for a great Pokémon game taking in all the best ideas over the years. Sure, possibly on a technical level, with all the changes and what not it’s better than gen 3 let’s say. Well, of course it is, the special physical split already occurred, abilities are more fleshed out etc. Gen 8 added very little and actually made quite a few things worse.
@Ludovsky The story, from what I can remember, was just a worst retelling of what happened in gen 7, which happened to have a great story. I doubt they will ever make a worse main game than sword and shield, but we will see I suppose.
@BeautyandtheBeer I don’t like hackers which is why playing smogon is really the only sensible route. It evens the playing ground so the guy that hacked or kept a Pokémon from gen 3 with an event move can be used by everyone on smogon.
@Chocobo_Shepherd Those are different beasts. The difference between the best kart character and worst aren’t huge and more importantly, trade offs for speed are made. Pokemon also tasks you with making 6 selections and require that your 6 selections compliment each other. It’s a turn based game, skill will only get you so far if you don’t use the meta defining Pokémon. If legendaries are allowed in the format you play, you leave yourself at a disadvantage if you don’t use legendary Pokémon. With the Pacharisu example, I believe that was only used because certain Pokémon or move combinations weren’t currently available in that tournament. It was also a single example, on a team that used some commonly used Pokémon.
@Tulio517 Possibly they mean that all the challenge comes from the competitive side of things. Each game has become easier, but that’s a problem that started all the way back with gold and silver.
@roy130390 Intimidate or guts? As cool of a design, luxray is a bit disappointing. Based on its design, I think bulky or fast would have worked but it’s a bit in between which makes it hard to justify over another electric type. It looks like something that could learn truck room so if it was slower and more bulky, guts could have had a cool niche.
@JustMonika BOTW is not meant to be played on a handheld. It exists but the game was certainly developed to be played on a television. Same with Splatoon 2. 3rd party games sure, they play better elsewhere but 1st party? There is no dedicated home console anymore, so of course many games were designed with the tv in mind.
@johnvboy If Nintendo themselves found this to be a good value, they wouldn’t have had a separate announcement for the price. They purposely split the announcement of the new service and the price. I have money, I love Nintendo, and I think this is a ripoff for anyone not shackled to animal crossing. It’s so weird to tie a retro service and dlc to the most popular game from last year. I can sort of see the strategy but I think it mostly doesn’t make sense.
@WiltonRoots The price just seems too high. Using Nintendo’s former pricing structure, SNES games are worth 8 bucks and N64 games are worth $10. Since SNES were added with no additional cost, charging $30 more seems to be weird number. I have money, I just think this price is almost arbitrary so I won’t bite. It’s fine if others find value, as this really seems aimed at a small subset of users who play animal crossing and enjoy N64 games.
@LordVal Interesting, as I love Splatoon but never liked the single player much. I’ve been thinking of getting the octo expansion. Do you use motion? For me, any game I like using motion on is a no go on handheld. Donkey Kong country on handheld is a real treat though, it looks bad on a big screen so handheld all the way.
Mostly handheld. With that said, I cannot play Splatoon in handheld mode as I tend to do poorly. It works well in table top though. Of course, fitness games like boxing and ring fit are on the big screen as well. BOTW is playable in handheld but that’s another that I much prefer on the TV. I miss the days is dedicated handhelds and consoles from Nintendo but I do admit that the switch does a decent job consolidating the two.
@Specter_of-the_OLED I see what you mean and good point about these games being locally stored. With that said, the value proposition is not equal to that of a common streaming service. Most services would collapse quickly if they only offered such a small initial offering, such as NSO.
@nessisonett It could be that they don’t like visual novels. Perhaps novels in general, which would be strange to me. It’s weird when people hate games that aren’t their taste. @somnambulance In general, a movie costs about 3 times less to own than a video game. A show with 6 or more seasons would cost about the price of a video game.
Would anyone subscribe to Netflix if it only had 10 shows and 30 or so movies? No, not at all. It’s not a good price to stream 20 games for $30 a year, games that based on VC pricing would cost about 180 dollars to own.
Problem with a rumor like this is that it won’t ever be verified. I too might start staying things that cannot be debunked. You know, for the fame. Or whatever.
I do find the “if it’s too much for you, don’t buy it” comments a bit silly. There’s a poll on this article and we are being asked to share our thoughts. Share away everyone! Don’t get caught up gauging others on what they believe is fair. That’s what the poll is for. I think the price stinks for anyone who isn’t interested in animal crossing. That’s not an insane stance to have.
@faint They aren’t worthless, not in my book. With that said, Sega is kind of to blame for depreciating the value of their games over the years though low priced collections. The games on offer so far would have been a $20 buck collection once upon a time.
@Burning_Spear Exactly, it’s an absurd price. the $20 subscription is not just nes and snes. It’s online play, plus Tetris and pac man. It’s weird to shackle the animal crossing dlc to the price, regardless of its high sales, it still only accounts for about a 1/3 of the player base.
@HungryHungryHomer Well, that’s a strong choice of words. Anyone who buys is a willing participant. The price stinks, I agree, but sensational language is just silly.
