Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

alpacatears

I'm a purely digital consumer. The only physical switch games I own are BOTW, which came with the console and Witcher 3, which was a present. With that said, I don't think Nintendo are ready for that kind of switchover to digital only.
The E-shop is absolutely woeful and moving games over to other Switches is an absolute pain in the butt. The internal storage on their devices is also abysmal.
I just can't imagine consumers being too happy with Nintendo until they fix so many of their issues such as the NSO offerings and the likes too. They just haven't invested enough in my eyes to match the likes of what Sony and Microsoft have put into their platforms

Re: Poll: Is It Cool To Time Travel In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

alpacatears

Meh, people can play games however they like. I don't do it but each to their own.
This same argument used to be had about people using guides for games. Some would argue that it destroys all the fun of the game whereas others say the experience of being stuck would ruin a game for them.
If time travelling helps someone to stay engaged and happy, then go right ahead. If time travel would ruin your experience, then by all means don't do it. Games are supposed to be fun so whatever way makes you happiest, is the correct option.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: How To Upgrade Nook's Cranny

alpacatears

I was trying to unlock mine for a good while as I was fed up with the tiny selection. I fulfilled all the requirements but still nada. I then realized that I didn't have a full roster of residents living on my island. As soon as the last plot was assigned for a villager to move in, I was notified that Nook's cranny would be upgrading.
I mentioned this to a few friends and it worked for them too

Re: Video: What Island Life Is Like In Animal Crossing: New Horizons One Month Later

Now that I've unlocked the Terraforming, I feel like I'm finally getting the island to the way I want it to be. I've started shuffling houses around and made a lovely heart shaped pond for my garden 😊. It's such a charming little game. My only gripe other than the egg spawns is that I'm still waiting on a Nook's cranny upgrade. Their current furniture selection daily is quite poor so I'm visiting friends all the time to check out what they have.

Re: Guide: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Turnip Exchange - Make Millions Of Bells The Easy Way

alpacatears

I don't really view the Stalk market as a gambling mechanic with the way that I've been playing it. I have a group of Twitter pals who do it too and we just collaborate with what our turnip prices are on each of our islands. Kinda like the Turnip exchange thing in the post above but much smaller scale.
I also like checking it in the morning before work and then after midday when I take a break. This game is great at giving you small pockets of things to jump in and out of

@gcunit I can definitely see where you're coming in terms of some of the characters feeling a bit shallow. I suppose with Stardew, the relationships lead you down very set narrative paths whereas AC didn't so they didn't have the same depth.
Interestingly enough, none of the previews for the game so far have touched upon the interactions with your fellow villagers. I'm hoping that we will be pleasantly surprised with it but it remains to be seen just yet

Re: Random: Brie Larson Seems As Excited For Animal Crossing: New Horizons As We Are

alpacatears

It's nice to see more people getting excited for Animal Crossing. Her tweeting it is good publicity for Nintendo too based on her following. I wonder would such a type of endorsement help more casual gamers to make the jump to buying a switch. It's the perfect game to capture such a demographic so it'll be great to hear how Nintendo are doing in sales in the weeks after it's release .

Re: Six New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Screenshots Spotted In Walmart Ad

I really can't wait to sink my teeth into this game. While the delay was killing me, I'm happy that they took the time to give this game the love and attention that it deserves. These games are always built to last the lifetime of the console or longer so the last thing we'd need is for it to be rushed at all.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in the fact that I've watched any and every YouTube video related to this game. I'm so freaking hyped

Re: Animal Crossing Direct Announced for 20th February

alpacatears

I'm really excited for this. The fact that they delayed development to really focus on the game and then them keeping the cards close to their hands makes me think that there's gonna be some great surprises in this game.

It'll also be lovely to be able to discuss the game further without the rampant angry speculation that's been clogging any and every piece of AC news for the past few months. You know all the ranting is bad when the Youtube comments section is the nicest space to engage in discussions for something.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Might Contain In-Game Purchases

alpacatears

Animal Crossing is a big game with many moving parts. You can easily sink hundreds of hours into it. I think the idea of a DLC or an expansion down the line to liven up your Island getaway experience would be really great.
This is a game that would suit incredibly well with optional extra content over time to expand it's lifetime. I'm very interested to see what it might end up being. The very nature of the new AC premise is exciting and sounds like a breath of fresh air for the series.

No point flipping tables and disavowing the game based on silly assumptions minus any real details yet.

Re: Soapbox: Confounded By The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Cloud Save Situation? You're Not Alone

alpacatears

I think it's still too early to tar and feather the game over this. I don't foresee them not having an announcement before the game is released, so I'd like to think that these concerns could be addressed then. There's still a lot of details about the game that we don't know yet so it seems a bit too early to jump the gun.

With that said, I can understand this fueling hesitancy around pre-ordering the game so hopefully this gets fully addressed before they make it available as a download on the E-shop

Re: Nintendo Switch's Online Activity Leads To Break In Murder Case Mystery

alpacatears

@HobbitGamer Valid point about the trial not being started yet but Nintendolife, however, is UK based and we have much stricter laws and guidelines around these in Europe, so just the fact that they were charged would constitute a moratorium on comments being opened on such matters. The US is much more lax than other countries in this regard.
Overall, people are making jokes in the comments above, which is highly inappropriate considering that someone was killed and legality aside, that should be enough to close the comments. I wouldn't want to be a family member or student of the deceased seeing people acting so Glib about it online.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo's Game Design Prowess Solve Discoverability Problems On Switch eShop?

alpacatears

I'd love to be able to rate the games that I buy and have a separate feed that shows similar games to my most liked titles.

It would also be pretty interesting to have a section that shows the games that your connected Nintendo friends have and are playing.
I've definitely experienced finding a new game to play by seeing a Title flash up that one of my friends was currently playing. I've also had people say "Oh, I saw you were playing X, would you recommend it?".
I feel Nintendo has always fostered a more community driven approach and it would be brilliant for them to build something that utilizes this in the Eshop
