Over the past few days, we've heard several stories of the new coronavirus impacting the production of games and consoles, including the newly-announced Animal Crossing Switch bundle. Pre-orders for the upcoming console have been delayed in Japan following the outbreak, causing Nintendo to apologise to fans.
Now, clearing up any confusion this may have caused, Nintendo has released a statement regarding future production across Europe and North America. It says that it "does not anticipate a significant impact on our broader global supply chain", noting that pre-orders in those regions are safe at present.
Here's the full statement shared by a Nintendo of America spokesperson to Kotaku:
We can confirm that the manufacturing of some Nintendo products for the Japanese market has been delayed due to the impact of 2019-nCoV coronavirus outbreak. Nintendo does not anticipate a significant impact on our broader global supply chain for systems and accessories at this time, and product sales in North America and Europe, including preorders, are not affected. We would like to express our concern and support for all those affected by the coronavirus during this challenging time.
If you're still looking to get your hands on the new Animal Crossing Switch, you'll find the best options here.

Interesting. I, a resident in Europe, had my order delayed because of the corona virus.
Not affected... Hmm.
@Blizzia what retailer? I have mine preordered with the Nintendo store in the UK and haven't heard of any delay whilst Amazon and Game both have preorders available for launch
@Blizzia I'm in Ireland and my pre-order was unaffected. One of my pals ordered theirs from a different shop too with no issues. Maybe it's the specific place you are getting it from? Have you checked with any other retailers to see if the same is occurring with them?
The news article yesterday inspired me to bother to go down and preorder mine today just to be on the safe side. Usually a bit of a delay wouldn't be a big deal but considering islands aren't transferable between systems, I want to make sure I upgrade my Switch before starting the game.
@carlos82 Coolshop. I've also got it pre-ordered at another retailer that doesn't have the delay warning yet.
@alpacatears Yeah I just checked a few minutes ago, only that retailer seems to be affected (at least for now, or well, openly.)
Got another pre-order in at a retailer that seems to be unaffected.
@BenAV I felt the exact same. I was gonna buy the game on my OG switch if there was a delay and transfer my save but that idea is now up in the air haha. I'm so hyped to get my hands on both the game and the lovely new Switch
@Blizzia I wonder if they just reacted to the news, well at least you have another anyway
Nintendo should sell the components separately so people can buy them and assemble the Switch themselves, just like LABO.
@carlos82 Possibly :3 and yeah, I hope I'm set no matter what hah.
The next Nintendo Direct seems to be...
@NoTinderLife They do that. There was an article on how you could buy the stuff separate.
@Grandiajet I believe there may be more in the next direct than we think😉😉😉.
this AC Switch is impossible to even pre-order. Sold out before I even knew it was a real thing.
@msvt depends on your region. They're surprisingly plentiful in canada
If the outbreak is that bad in China then Nintendo should start thinking about moving productions to Southeast Asia or Mexico (like they did with past consoles) just to be on the safe side.
@peanutbuttercup
preoders sold out in the USA as far as I can tell. Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target. I think for a pre-order this is disappointing and annoying. After all, a pre-order lets them know how many to make ahead of time.
:/
Does Canada and US have the same region for Switch?
@msvt the switch is region free
Nintendo and all companies should take their factories out of china asap
FYI Walmart Canada just opened pre-orders for the AC Switch today!
Does Nintendo have manufacturing set up in other countries, or are they primarily centered in China (for Switch production)?
Maybe its time Nintendo pulls all manufacturing out of China, that would make me happy.
Of course not, it's all a fabrication.
Just a heads up its Coron-O-virus. Coronavirus would have come from the beer Corona. People keep saying it wrong, and even Corona had to make jokes about it.
