After many months of not hearing a single thing about Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo is now bombarding us with new information about this highly anticipated release on a daily basis. In today's update, we get a closer look at the character customisation menu.
As shown in the second video, you'll be able to change your character's look in the comfort of your own home. In other words, you no longer have to visit Shampoodle to get a new hairdo. Yay!
There are also plenty of other options to customise your eye, hair and skin colour, and you can swap out the existing facial features with new ones. To top it off, why not add some rosy cheeks and make some adjustments to your character's jawline while you're at it.
The Animal Crossing fan Twitter account @ac_atsumare has also shared the following infographic, which gives us a much better look at all of the customisation options on offer (thanks @ACPocketNews for the heads up):

Did you spot anything else in the above videos? What do you think of the customisation options? Tell us in the comments below.

I did hear that we'll get additional Hairstyles and colors so that would open up a lot of possibilities.
Maybe we can do some things ourselves, but more are unlocked by visiting the salon later in the game? Looking at this screenshot it looks like there are only 8 hairstyles?
Hell yeah! Boofy curls from the get-go!
That's amazing. So much content on this game, it's gonna be amazing.
Enough hype. Leave a few things for discovery.
PS. I hope Shampoodle still has a job!
I may be in the minority here but I’ll never understand people’s obsession with animal crossing.
@Tandy255 Indeed I hope major news sites would stop spoiling every little detail of the game until it's release.
@Maschinenmensch : It took me a bit of time to get into it. My first foray into the series was via Wild World, and I was hoping that there would be objectives and whatnot, and I was unaware of what the game entailed until I kept coming back to it. It's a relaxed play-at-your-own-pace sort of experience.
For skeptics (as I was), I'd say that it's an acquired taste. I would certainly consider myself a fan now, though I can't see myself pouring in thousands of hours like the more obsessed among the fanbase.
Fantastic news
Hoping to get more crossovers in this game. I'm pretty sure BOTW Link (and maybe Zelda too) full costume is gonna be present. Crossing my fingers for other titles as well such as Splatoon 2 and even Pokemon.
I’m bald. No alternative for me?
This is awesome! But I am also on the boat that I hope there is a salon to do more crazier hairsyles (maybe with the salon, it'll let us get facial hair? Beauty marks? Colorful hair, maybe even dyed hair and two tone color hair!?).
I love the customization! Can't wait to finally play the game in less than a month to see all this game has to offer!
@Maschinenmensch
Yet here you are engaging in the discussions... Maybe the fun is rubbing off on you?
@Maschinenmensch I did not either but then I remembered how much I loved Tamagochis when I was a kid. Now I am looking to buy Animal Crossing for that feel again
And from what I heard AND watched it has so much customization and possibilities.
Cool !
I can make a goofy character with chipmunk teeth. 🤓
And yeah...!
No more silly questions before playing the game.
I'm assuming these are the starting styles, and the Nook Miles options shown in the Direct unlock more hair options gonna be great!
@Heavyarms55 We know from the Direct that more hairstyles are unlocked through Nook Miles rewards.
As for where Shampoodle figures into this (or does not) we really do not know.
@Ttimer5 I am sure there was a character with pink hair in one of the vids somewhere so I hope so.
Too much hype... the amount of work that has gone into this game is amazing.
Can't wait to make my character and start building my dream island. I also love the fact that I can invite villagers to stay rather than them plonking themselves into my village. It used to drive me mad when a Sporty or Gym bro character moved in and I had to shun them till they left haha.
@Silly_G I spent something like six months popping into Wild World more less daily, even if just for 10 minutes a time. I was mildly hooked for a bit, filling up the museum, doing favours for the villagers, but after a while it just got too same-y and without a long-term goal felt a little pointless, and the island started to feel really small. Nice and relaxing and I can see why people like it, but I felt like there were more productive ways to spend my time.
I tried Pocket Camp too, but got bored of that even quicker.
What really gets me about all the hype though is that as far as I can tell, almost nothing changes between games. Maybe some superficial stuff like the haircuts mentioned here, and obviously the resolution’s better, but it still looks like exactly the same experience as the original N64 game, right down to the character models.
I will say the new ability to change the landscape does open up whole worlds of creativity, but it’s not exactly Minecraft...
Maybe I’m just needlessly cynical, but I keep hoping for some of revolutionary news drop that will actually excite me, and it keeps not happening - yet everyone else seems to react as if changing your avatar’s jawline is the second coming.
Stuff in directs and other videos aside, the girl on the game's cover has a hairstyle that's not on the chart It also wouldn't make any sense to not even port all the existing ones over.
Loving the darker skin color selections! Finally.
(Still missing some shades though)
Any word on Mii's?
Yes I still have my Mii avatar on my Switch, though I've gotten so old since creating it when the Wii launched it now looks more like my kid than it looks like me. But I use it when I can and being able to use it as my character in ACNH would be an incentive for me to buy it as I'm still on the fence.
2006 Mii vs 2020 Mii

Yay for square eyes without eyelashes! I'm so excited that we can change our gave whenever we want.
So we now have direct control over the look of our character? No more rolling the dice with responses to vague questions?
@gaga64 My first Animal Crossing was Wild World, and like you, I found it rather monotonous after about six-months, and I gave up on it. New Leaf, on the other hand, offers far more variety, and it kept me hooked for several years becoming my most played 3DS game with over 500-hours. New Horizons looks like it's taking things to the next level, so I have little doubt I'll be sinking lots of time into it as well.
@Mountain_Man and we can finally change our skin tone too, a well requested feature.
Just gotta say, curly hair making a debut in Animal Crossing is wild!
@Silly_G that’s cool but it still doesn’t sound appealing to me; good to see people like you enjoy these type of games, though.
@zitpig nope. Not at all. 😂
@Zuljaras Oh man- I remember Tamagotchis! Those were adorable and I would flip out if it died of starvation in the middle of the night due to my being a sound sleeper. Lol. Good times.
@rjejr,
Yes the 2006 Mii looks miles better.
@johnvboy Well that's b/c there's a lot more miles on the 2020 Mii.
My wife had our kids in 2002 and 2005. My hair started changing from black to gray soon after that. I'm not quite as gray as that Mii yet but the Mii editor isn't a big fan of salt & pepper.
@rjejr,
Joking apart the Mii's on the Wii U look tonnes better than the original's.
@johnvboy And Miis are still on Switch, but they get as much respect as themes and My Nintendo Switch rewards. Sometimes I think 90% of the company is asleep at the wheel.
@rjejr,
I have given up on themes fella.
@Yorumi,
Without a doubt, this game has been worth the wait, all the attention to detail is amazing, this will be one of the best looking games on the Switch.
@johnvboy Well we have 2 themes, black and white, so I'm still holding out hope for gray.
@rjejr,
Now you are just being greedy.
"Fisher Price - The game"
Unfortunately, the art style and character model remains the same. When using a Mii is your solution to making a character model look less boring, you've messed up.
And if Mii support isn't in this game, they've messed up.
Definitely seeing the Splatoon influence here. (The devs of that worked on this)
