Miitomo has been out for a little over a month now, and has been quite a success as Nintendo's first smart device app. While it isn't strictly considered a "game", the social aspects of it are quirky and engaging, but there's always been one glaring flaw: adding friends. The app has been strangely strict on this front, with the only ways to add each other being either via social media or in person. Fortunately, Miitomo is an ongoing project and an upcoming update will soon rectify the issue.
Nintendo recently sent out a notice hyping up the impending update, saying that you will now be able to add friends by email and "other methods". Whatever that means is still unknown, but at least there's going to be some expanded options for adding friends soon. Additionally, you'll now be able to answer the same questions as others when viewing their responses under "All answers", you can edit a Miifoto before posting it as a comment, and there will also be some speed optimizations.
What do you think? What else would you like to see Nintendo change in future updates? How have you been liking Miitomo? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

How about adding more content so people don't quit using the app after the first few plays?
Seems cool.
@AVahne I agree, I lost interest after a couple weeks of light interaction.
My biggest problem with Miitomo is that it's a harsh reminder that I have no friends. None. Zero. Zip. Zilch.
I'm pretty sure almost no one is still using this app. Nintendo wasted a lot of time to make a non-game that people didn't play very long.

Those coins keep me Interested. It's only about 10 minutes a day and I've had some good interactions with it. Listen to 10 comments and answer 3 questions is all the app asks. Anything else is buying clothing or trying to win it.
Miitomo is the epitome of why Nintendo is in a distant third. Nobody I know even remotely knows of this app.
Email is a good start.
My son had to delete his, taking up too much space on his tablet, and I'm thinking about deleting it b/c it seems a major drain on the battery even when I'm not using it, and I'm sick of that little - not enough storage space - icon always on my screen.
But I feel like some day they will make it better. Like why give us a full move able camera in a room if they aren't going to let us decorate it. Maybe put in some arcade cabinets so we can play the original Donkey Kong? Too much space just wastec, it has to be meant for something in the future.
Hopefully they will let us search by Nintendo ID or Miitomo user name.
Good. I'm starting to lose interest in the game and haven't played it in a few days so I'm hoping this update can spike my interest in the game again.
I hope more questions are added. The app seems to have run out of things to ask me, which is a shame because I find it addicting to just sit there answering them.
@XCWarrior
I don't think it took all that much to make this app. It's just a bunch of Miis (that the user creates) and questions, with basic outfits. I imagine they probably had a 2-3 man team develop Miitamo.
I kinda lost interest, but, I do use it every day- who can resist 30 coins a day (on 2 accounts at that) for 5 minutes on the app...
That Fire Emblem app... Now that's got me excited (and Animal Crossing to an extent)
@rjejr
You can manage your space in settings. Delete some old songs and stuff. I just keep the one or two songs on each album I'll actually listen to. Also deleted some other apps I wasn't using. Also, old pics and then delete from the "recently deleted" album.
Frees up plenty space if needed.
This is great, because my biggest issue was not being able to add friends. Maybe I can pick the game up again.
I have 3 friends on it. Not a lot of fun when you have no feiends? Maybe add recomended friends??
Connectivity is the component holding this social app back, which is already a rough statement in itself. Looking forward to the update!
Why does no one mention you can add friends of friends on Miitomo? I've made a few new friends that way!
I'd like to gift unwanted prizes I got in Miitomo Drop...
Still not available here in North Europe...
I second what allav866 said.
Wonder if the "other methods" involve our Wii U and 3DS friends lists.
Nintendo could send the gifts to their places instead of a box in the menu. It's too much work to go there, redeem the gifts and then be able to use... it's not like there's other things to do with then, so why all that work?
How about make the app available worldwide?
E-mail ?!?!? Are you kidding me???? 1999 called!
How about:
Adding friends from your phone's contacts? OMG Novel concept!!!
Adding friends from your existing friends NNIDs? No way.......
Adding friends using location settings ? Wayyy too 'future'?
Notifications when your friends answer new questions? OMG so hard to do?
Gifting friends new outfits? Too friendly?
More plays on the miitomo drop (miitomo flop)
Come on Nintendo, do something right for once, not everything needs to be some 'experiment'. I'm losing patience
Now if you could sell candy so for coins or tickets....that or give us more coins and tickets!
@Hordak He-Man and She-Ra didn't want to add you as a friend? Strange...
Lets hope they update it so people can globally use it instead of just certain countries. Regional locking is idiotic.
Miitomo is really fun if you have friends and you don't come to it expecting it to be Mario Galaxy 3.
None of my real world friends are using this so it's a waste of time for me. Maybe if it added from Miiverse I could find more use for it.
The one friend I had deleted it as they thought it was terrible. I just log in every day for my 10 platinum coins - the most you can get with no friends. The questions are tedious and I can't believe people actually using the app give real answers to all the questions.
Sounds great!
I did enjoy it for a few days, but now I play for the Platinum Coins. Problem is, there's nothing to spend Platinum Coins on now, so I'm likely to stop playing altogether.
Oh, and I wonder if these new methods of adding friends also comes with new My Nintendo 100 Coin Missions?
Miitomo has the potential to metamorphose into some sort of kick @ss beautiful butterfly with proper and substantial updates but right now it's a rather hideous and boring looking caterpillar. If it weren't for the bonuses I wouldn't be logging in at all. I gave up answering the questions weeks ago.
Cool, I don't use it as I'm not on social media. Just what I'm looking for in an update.
Hopefully they will let us add people via usernames too. I wouldn't think many people would be happy to give there email address out on forums, spam an all that. But still, it's a start.
In my opinion I think miitomo is the most useless app I have on my phone. What is the utility of this stupid thing anyway? It's some guy or gal who walks around in a room all alone and asks you stupid and mundane questions, and then gives you a meaningless lackluster response. On top of that, the voice this character has is extremely creepy, no matter what adjustments get applied. And I still don't know anything about the 3 or 4 currencies in the app. I never paid any real money for my xbox avatar clothes and I'm sure not doing it for this one either. Miitomo may very well be the absolute worst waste of time and money that exists as a phone app. I have real games to play with my limited and budgeted entertainment time..both on my Wii U and on my phone.
People still call this a game? It is not.
It is a social app like Twitter or Facebook with a little minigame added into it to make money.
I already got 2 free games out of it and that is why iw ill continue to get my 35 plat coins a day for 10 mins of my time.
All I really want in terms of options to add friends is the ability to add from my existing friend lists on Wii U/3DS... figured this would have been in the initial release, because these are the people that are most likely to still be using the app. It does still need to be much faster though, and the rort that is miitomo drop needs to be fixed.
It's okay, it just needs this easier way to add friends to expand a bit.
I use it every day, multiple times a day. Editing a miifoto before posting as a comment will be good, I posted one yesterday & really wanted to tweak it before I did so. You guys must not get it or haven't bothered, it's hilarious!
I already feel like Miitomo is starting to get pretty monotonous, so I hope they release some sort of update that gives us more variety about what we can do in the game. I have only.been logging onto the game to get the free rewards each and and the ten million users celebration. It's getting pretty boring, pretty quick. Even if it is a app I play for only five or ten minutes.
Finally! A friend of mine wants to play it, but she has no Facebook or Twitter and I don't see her that often. Adding friends via e-mail would be great!
I hope you can add friends via Friend Codes. That would be nice.
I should really join the bandwagon and talk about myself.
@Spoony_Tech Don't forget to change you clothes everyday for an easy 5 platinum coins!
@JaxonH Oh I delete plenty of stuff, but there is something wrong with my tablet. I have 8GB but it says 61GB is used, that's 8x more than I have. And I use Dolphin browser and tunnybrowser keeps filling up. I may switch browsers and go back to Chrome, which I use on my desktop but didn't like on Android.
8GB is so tiny, I don't know how Nitnedo ever thought it was a good idea for a home console.
I love Miitomo so far but, dare I say, they need new ways to customize yourself. It feels like using all those coins on clothing alone is wasted potential, so I'd love to see some room-swatches Tomodachi style.
How about making it work on Android devices properly.
Still just crashes when i try to open it.
How else would you want to add friends? Seems fine to me the way it is now. I kind of don't care about friends, however I do use it every day though to get 10 platinum coins by switching outfits and answering 3 questions.
Being able to play on a tablet would be nice.
My 11 yr daughter, my 13 yr old son and myself 45 yr old man all agree Miitomo SUCKS and we deleted it from our devices after a week.
It is very tedious and just not fun at all.
@Mbrogz3000 There is one small use you can get out of it even if you don't like it: you can get 10 platinum coins (or more) once a day by just switching outfits and answering at least 3 questions... nice if you want money off Nintendo games on the eshop/free dlc/etc
@chiefeagle02 Playing on a tablet didn't help it.
Miitomo is region locked, and still unavailable.
@rjejr I ran into the space issue on my tablet, too, and had to uninstall it. Nintendo needs to have an option to move the data files to an SD card otherwise I'm never installing this app again
@AVahne I hope so. Be cool to add different types of minigames for things.
I still use it everyday, simply for the few platinum coins you can get. 5 minutes and I'm done.
total rubbish...
One glaring flaw? How about the fact that it runs so slow? Seriously, by the time that thing starts up on my phone, entire star systems have been born and died.
I play it every day.
@Captain_Gonru Off topic, but funny so worth it.
I was in the eShop on the Wii U and my wife saw that guy from Ntinedo Minute and said he looked just like Captain Rip Hunter. And he did, and it all made sense. Then we watched last weeks episode and he's still bad.
And that's why we probably wont be watching next season. Unless he dies and Snart and Savages daughter take over the ship. Could happen, Babylon 5 got a new captain in season 2 and the show got better. Well until season 5 but we just pretend that never happened.
@XCWarrior I have at least 15 friends who use it on a consistent basis (and I see them using it in person even when I don't exactly see new answers and posts from them).
@freaksloan It's more my tablet (running Android 5.0) is incompatible with Miitomo.
Thank the maker and his water! I was not trying to go back on facebook to goof off in miitomo. Now if they can work on the loading and app size...
@AlternateButtons @JaxonH @ohaiderepally I go off my Twitter feed. The first week, tons of photos from the Miitomo app. The next two weeks, the number dwindled. I don't think I've seen a single Miitomo photo in my feed this week, and I'm a Twitter junkie.
So if you guys are using it great, but I think between how much it sucks the life of a smart phone and its lack of depth, Nintendo isn't getting a lot of money generated off the app, especially if you guys are saying its a 5-10 minute time waster.
Being able to add friends with other methods was something I missed from the very start.
I find Miitomo fun for a few moments, but with literally zero app friends it is rather limited.
Great more nosey questions the mini games are rubbish and it takes up all the tickets to win what you want no wonder people are getting ps4's like hotcakes.
Excellent Nintendo . Now, please make it available in Latin America -.-
Hopefully more pictures being taken while I'm changing clothes. Gotta show 'em all off!
@XCWarrior I'm still using it daily, along with most of my 20+ friends that use Miitomo.
NNID friend requests is the obvious update needed.Heres hoping!
