When Nintendo tells a studio capable of creating something like Wave Race Blue Storm to make amiibo mini games just because this studio has not the same ideas as Nintendo Japan then you don't know what you're doing. Just like when Nintendo refused to buy Rare and let somebody else buy it instead, they don't really have a clue. But if all Nintendo wants to do is make amiibos and light games yeah, anyone can do that, they don't need any talented studios, just the copyright of the franchises they want to keep milking without any consideration other than making money.
@DarkKirby Yep, Eurogamer speculates with Tegra X1 (old) and X2 (new) chips but ultimately admits that X1 is more likely so we're talking about a 2 years old technology here. Eurogamer says that that technology would be fine if Nintendo chooses a 720p resolution, which looks good on a handheld screen, but not on a TV.
I read the Eurogamer articles. Basically, the chip is designed for mobile devices, it won't be able to compete with Xbox One/Scorpio and PS4/Neo and it would make impossible backwards compatibility via hardware. If what has been said is true, NX will be the successor of Nintendo 3DS, not only because it will be a portable device with the only particularity that it can be linked to the TV, but also regarding power specifications. If you consider the mobile phone apps that Nintendo is preparing, the final conclusion is that Nintendo is going 100% mobile this time. I would prefer that Nintendo focused on home consoles instead, though.
@samuelvictor Yes, the Game Gear versions don't even exist to me. The Master System versions have better sound, visuals, resolution, field of view, controls... Too bad that they have not been released on the eShop (only on Virtual Console of Wii).
@SeaSalty I was hyped back in the day but honestly Sonic Colours has not stood the test of time. I replayed it recently and the level design is far from great. I really enjoyed The Secret Rings when it launched but, again, it doesn't feel great any more. Now I don't have a favourite 3D Sonic but I love the Mega Drive ones (Sonic 1 and 2 for Master System are not bad either). Hopefully the two new games are great because I have some addiction to Sonic like the rest of forgiving Sonic fans out there.
Because NX has not a public official name it's obvious that Sega is not saying "Coming to X" at the end of the trailer. Common sense. The atypical thing is when Ubisoft revealed the name of Wii U when announcing Rayman Legends.
The 2D Sonic is looking great but we don't know anything about the 3D game and the trailer doesn't tell much, so it's too early to know if it's going to be right or not.
At this point, it's pretty obvious that NX will have less third party support than Wii had, about the same than Wii U, or probably less (without a decent launch support). Wii was killed by Nintendo in its sixth year, because it was under-powered so Nintendo released a Wii HD which turned out to be Wii U, which was also under-powered and was killed by Nintendo in its fourth year, when games stopped coming and Zelda was switch to a dual release with the optimal version being for another new console, which is also under-powered according to what Nintendo and Ubisoft have revealed. It sounds like a joke but it's the reality. Nintendo said that technical specifications are not important when asked about NX and Ubisoft announced Just Dance NX and thinks that NX will bring some casual players back, something I have serious doubts about with all the casual gaming devices currently available and that did not exist when DS and Wii became a gaming craze.
You have to be blind (or work for Nintendo or make money of defending Nintendo) to think Nintendo is doing great or considering their fans (like myself) in recent years but, not only that, they are not doing great in the market except for a few random hits (and Pokemon Go is not a Nintendo game for a Nintendo device, Nintendo just owns one third of The Pokemon Company). Most importantly, Nintendo's reputation is going nose-dive. So what are they doing next? Are they going to focus on excellent software for new dedicated consoles that are already a success like PS4 or Xbox One? Are they going to release a powerful dedicated gaming system that could bring old fans and traditional players back? No to both possibilities, they are focusing on mobile phone software and yet another exclusive under-powered dedicated gaming console called NX that arguably will have little third party support and will be replaced by another crazy ideas in a few years. This is the Nintendo of today that some people insist on promote.
For all the people that said that the fact that only Just Dance was announced for NX at E3 regarding third parties did not mean we had to worry (including staffers like gcunit).
@MetalKingShield And not only that but Wii U will be the first Nintendo home console to not get at least one dedicated Zelda game. NES had 2, SNES 1, N64 2, GameCube 1 (The Wind Waker), Wii 1 (Skyward Sword), Wii U none.
When I read the titular elsewhere I was hoping for something great, but it is what it is: amiibo and card support. I could not care less. Let's be honest, Nintendo. Instead of developing (or updating) Animal Crossing you pick up an old one and you just add an update JUST TO sell cards and amiibos, because Amiibo Festival did not work like you expected. Basically, you want to sell more cards and amiibo using decent software that was released four years ago. You never stop surprising me, Nintendo. Why don't you fix Mario Kart 8's battle mode which is far more requested?
@Uncensored Wii U has some great platformers: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Woolly World, Rayman Legends... Even New Super Mario Bros. U is a good choice, at the very least is better than the other "New Mario" games. There are few interesting action/adventure games though.
@PaperMario64 Comments section are to express how you feel about things, it does not matter if the things that I am talking about are obvious or not. If they are obvious sometimes it's even worse. This is why comments section exists, in case you don't know.
@gspro15198 That's sad. I have lived in big cities and in the country side and I prefer the country side. On the plus side, you can enjoy the real nature that the "real" Pokemon games try so hard to recreate.
@Kirk Good point. Sand box games are not necessarily big world games, probably the huge world in Breath of the Wild is what is worrying people since it looks so dull and empty. And yet people at Nintendo Life's E3 chat room were like OHHHH WOW OOHHHH I'VE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT! BREATH OF THE "WIND"!
It depends on the game and your personal preferences. For example, even if you like Xenoblade Chronicles, you have to admit that the side quests are the most boring side quests ever. The game becomes boring and tiresome because of that and the repetitive gameplay, even though the story is good and I enjoyed that. I don't care if the game is huge if the game is boring. Metal Gear Solid V is also sand box but I really enjoy it because the gameplay is great. I hope that this new Zelda game is fun to play and touching, otherwise Twilight Princess will be still my favourite Zelda. I have my doubts about Breath of the Wild after the E3 show, but I hope there's more to see so let's hope that the final game is great. I understand the concerns, though.
@ollietaro I wasn't asking for it, I'm just saying that the dialogues are long and boring in that game (even though I like the game) and I usually enjoy more dubbed games, except for the games that particularly don't need that, like Mario games, etc. You should play Banjo-Kazooie! If you like 3D platformers, of course.
@Kirk I don't know if you have watched them, but there are 3D videos of Virtual Boy games that you can play on Nintendo 3DS and the games look perfectly fine, the 3D effect is awesome (Wario Land, at least). There's no technical limitation for these games to play and look great on 3DS but, as you said, we are talking about Nintendo, so logic and common sense is not necessarily part of the equation.
@Uncensored Yep, I think SNES, N64 and GameCube are the best Nintendo consoles: best hardware (at the time), best games library, SNES is the best 2D controller and GameCube is a nice 3D controller. Wii and Wii U are both a mixed bag, but they have some great exclusive games.
@aaronsullivan I think NX could be that platform. Perhaps you think it is not because third parties won't develop new games for PowerPC architecture but, to be honest, they don't seem to be interested in NX whatever architecture it uses. If NX is PowerPC, it could read (or download) GC, Wii and Wii U games and still could be better than Wii U for the upcoming Nintendo games. I think one PowerPC NX is the way to go. Nintendo can't afford to have many gaming devices any more. The other logical alternative would be becoming third party, thus saving hardware costs and focusing on software for the popular gaming platforms, something that is happening at the moment with the mobile apps, although those are not the games and platforms I want to play.
@GrailUK #169 That is a good idea, probably it would require an adaptor though because having 2 to 4 NES, SNES and GC ports might be a little too much.
@Uncensored More Mini downgraded consoles that we don't know what have inside? Is this just cheap software emulation? For once, I prefer @Anti-Matter 's idea of a NX console which is backwards compatible with GameCube, Wii and Wii U. It could easily be done since the three of them share the same architecture. And they could use emulation for NES, SNES and N64, just like Wii and Wii U do. If it had an optical drive, and I hope so, it would read GC, Wii and Wii U discs, but you could also access the new eShop for buying the games.
@GrumpyGoomba I have heard rumours that Nintendo cancelled NX after Neo and Scorpio's announcements and that they are releasing Mini NES instead to compete with those two.
@Tempestryke Then they should recreate NES hardware and cartridges/chips instead of releasing the same VC ROMs in different form (as I suspect this is software-emulation). This way the original experience would be preserved. The VC ROMs are already available on Wii and Wii U and they look washed out.
@Parkour_LMan With no reason? There was a Nintendo Life article about it. So many permissions for an app that only uses GPS and camera. Allow me to have doubts and criticise, you are free to play and I don't tell you what to do and what to post.
@Azooooz The fact that it asks for full access to your Google account is suspicious but yep Nintendo die-hard fans will always tell you that it's totally normal.
@dronesplitter I got the SNES Wii controller, I think it's the best Club Nintendo reward ever but also SNES is one of the best consoles ever, and the SNES controller still is GREAT. It's much better than the GamePad or the Wii U pro controller (for 2D games, obviously).
