Re: Review: Monster Hunter Generations (3DS)

VanillaLake

I love this franchise and I think the games are top-quality, but after 4 Ultimate I can't stop reminding how better it looks and plays on Wii and Wii U (I haven't played the PSP games). I'm sure next will be multi-platform, though. The 3DS screens are just not sharp enough.

Re: Playtonic On Yooka-Laylee's Non-Linear Structure And Retaining That Trademark Rare Humour

VanillaLake

@Martendo For your information, Rare didn't develop any of their games with Nintendo holding their hands. They live in UK and Nintendo in Japan and that was a time when companies were not online 24/7, plus Rare was quite independent. Rare developed their games on their own to the point that they made Conker's Bad Fur Day and Nintendo did not want to publish it. Nintendo was just 49% owner of the company.

As for Rare not making good games in the last 20 years, they made some good Xbox 360 games until Microsoft asked them to write Kinect code for other developers to use and also make Kinect games. Now they are making Sea of Thieves which is designed by original Rare member Gregg Mayles and is looking awesome so far. Also, some of Playtonic's staff like Steve Mayles had important roles in the original Rare. And who is Nintendo now to save the day, anyway?

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@Trinexx Good. By simple I mean the gameplay and the progression, the story is simple in the three games. I believe the third entry is a very good place to start.

EDIT: Or the fourth, whatever you choose. Surprisingly, the quality has not been lowered in this Nintendo franchise (fingers crossed).

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@-Red- #82 Hopefully. The only amiibo I got are the three small Yarn Yoshis (the green in the game bundle) and Wolf Link (game bundle). I think amiibo are, in general, a cheap way of locking content. But I'm also against overpriced DLC (like Smash Bros. and Hyrule Warriors). If it's like Mario Kart 8 then it's perfect.

@Grumblevolcano #83 Yeah who knows

@HappyMaskedGuy Yeah, anything is possible at this point.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@Grumblevolcano That's a good idea. I think most people prefer remasters of great games and new AAA games instead of rushed and mediocre spin-offs. Only problem is that Microsoft and Sony bundle these games or release them for a cheaper price while Nintendo's remasters are always sold separately at a premium price as if they were all-new releases, which is kind of stingy and disappointing.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@Grumblevolcano. Sure it does have at least one Wii U port as Breath of the Wild is a Wii U game that is getting a NX port and Wii U delayed release. If NX is not backwards compatible it could get some more Wii U ports but I'm not sure about how would they perform commercially. If it's backwards compatible then we have the tablet controller / handheld link debate. It's interesting your opinion as usually, I also think One S is going to give Nintendo a hard time, as it is small, cheap, backwards compatible with One and 360 and it's also a 4K BD player. Heaven, if I didn't have an Xbox One I'd surely pick one up before a PS4/Neo. Also. Scorpio is still a bit far (holiday 2016) and could be expensive, as you pointed out.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@Trinexx I think the best Pikmin formula is Pikmin 1. Pikmin 2 is the most challenging. I love Pikmin 3, it's the most beautiful and have the winged pikmin, but I would change it a bit and make it more challenging (more similar to Pikmin 1). Pikmin 1 is very re-playable as you try to complete the story faster each time. Pikmin 2 can be a bit frustrating and Pikmin 3 is too simple but has great features.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Provides Assurances on Pikmin 4 Development

VanillaLake

@Grumblevolcano Yep, it's not a NX launch title and according to what he said about Mario, there's no Mario game at launch either. So NX launch software will be Breath of the Wild, Just Dance and whatever remains hidden. After 3DS and Wii U's disappointing launch software options, I don't trust that this time will be any different, and the competitors now are fiercer than ever (One-Scorpio, PS4-Neo and mobile devices). Unless they have faith in their mobile apps...

Re: Someone At Nintendo Expected The Wii U To Shift 100 Million Units

VanillaLake

@Yellowkoopa True. Nintendo abandoned Wii two years before its death even though it was successful (probably because they knew it was a fluke after all) and abandoned Wii U in its fourth year of life. And still they insist on making new hardware and expect it to be the most successful ever, regardless of their actions and history. The thing that Nintendo does not see is that people are interested in software over hardware, it doesn't matter if the Nintendo brand is stamped on it or not. What really puzzles me is the fact that Nintendo repeats the same mistakes over and over again, and refuses to see the fluke that the Wii phenomena was.

Fans are leaving. Nintendo doesn't have a clue about the reasons. Fans tell Nintendo the reasons and Nintendo doesn't listen.

Re: Someone At Nintendo Expected The Wii U To Shift 100 Million Units

VanillaLake

@LUIGITORNADO It's difficult for employees to disagree with bosses (Iwata) at Nintendo. I know this because I used to read all Iwata asks and one could easily read between the lines. Every employee that tried to disagree about something with Iwata had to smile and say that Iwata is right in the end. That's one of the reasons why Nintendo is stuck in the past.

Re: Nintendo Producer Highlights How Paper Mario: Color Splash Improves on Sticker Star

VanillaLake

This article ignores the most important part of the interview. You are just picking the sweet side. Nintendo also said that they are following the Sticker Star "light RPG" style because they believe there's RPG in Mario & Luigi already. Basically, they are saying Paper Mario is going to be an action adventure from now on, with cards instead of a team and with a deeper story than Sticker Star's story which was ridiculous anyway.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Thinks You Should Give Star Fox Zero Another Try

VanillaLake

@HappyMaskedGuy More: mediocre soundtrack with mediocre remixes, boring dialogues, lifeless environments, poor replay value, no real multiplayer mode, no online mode, tiresome boss battles, really poor story and connection between characters, cumbersome tracking system, horrible sound design with lack of options, horrible visual design... And I haven't mentioned the controls.
