@ThanosReXXX Now you know how it feels when I get attacked by a bunch of unreasoning brainwashed Nintendo fans that no longer know what is right or wrong.
However, I was not attacking anybody (I never do).
@ThanosReXXX Oh please don't tell me that a Wii-like hardware with NES ROMs becomes a great deal because it has an HDMI port. Then I'm better off with Wii U's VC. Because Nintendo is the manufacturer of this thing, I really expected it to be NES hardware with RGB and HDMI (the important thing here being original hardware upgraded to RGB), thus my first impressions were positive. Nintendo disappointing intelligent users, nothing new.
In short, if it was a NES hardware with RGB and HDMI, it would be awesome. If it is a Wii-like hardware with Virtual Console ROMs, as I suspect, then it is a letdown.
@dronesplitter Then Mini NES does not make much sense and it is not necessary for people that already has a Wii or Wii U. It would be a great piece of technology if it was a NES HDMI even though I don't care much about NES. SNES is one of my favourite consoles so a real SNES with RGB and HDMI would be a day-one purchase for me, but if they released a Wii-like hardware with SNES roms then I already have Wii and Wii U for that (with better hardware and emulation, probably).
@SLIGEACH_EIRE #472 Agreed. How many times does Nintendo want to sell the NES roms to the same customers? Wii, Wii U, 3DS, Mini NES... Always the same roms without any enhancement at all, sometimes even worse (they look terrible on Wii U, particularly).
I think this is just another way of selling the same old stuff to those that think Nintendo should charge four times for the same old roms.
About people insisting on the 5x30=€150 formula like it being something fair and normal, it was very expensive when the Wii launched, not to mention how expensive is these days to charge €5 for each NES rom. And Nintendo does it multiple times. It is very stingy and can't be justified.
@Wolfgabe I believe you. I think the best way to play Mega Drive games is the first Mega Drive system and the second best way is to have well emulated software like Sonic Mega Collection (60Hz in Europe) and the sound is great. Anyway, Sega releases lots of classic compilations for dedicated hardware and also cheap systems so you have lots of options to play the games in one way or other. Even Sonic the Hedgehog 3D is awesome and better than any Nintendo's effort.
@sleepinglion I know that NES HDMI sounds pretty cool, but we are not sure if this is NES hardware with HDMI or Wii hardware with HDMI running VC roms (software emulation). The fact that it does not play cartridges is suspicious. It would be great if it was real NES hardware with RGB and HDMI.
@Wolfgabe OK man, but we have to wait to see how good or bad Mini NES is compared to those Mega Drive micro systems. Even Mega Drive II was worse than Mega Drive I (sound chip), and GameCube I was better than II (the first version had a "digital" port), Nintendo 64 I was better than II (the first PAL N64 is RGB-ready) so we have to check what Mini NES is to properly compare it to the newer Mega Drive systems, don't you think? Heaven knows what's inside Mini NES...
@HappyMaskedGuy I have to disagree, some Sega games are better than many Nintendo games but, anyway, it's just a subjective matter although I don't think it's fair to consider Sega games to be rubbish. 16-bit Sonic games are much better than most Mario games (and I love Mario).
@ironside1911 True. How can people say that this thing should cost 30x5= €150 LOL Nintendo is so out of touch and so are the die-hard fans that try to justify anything that Nintendo does.
Also, the Mega Drive is official even though it is not made by Sega. @Wolfgabe You say "China", where do you think this Mini NES is made? Let's see if Mini NES is not the Wii Mini motherboard with the VC versions of the games instead or real NES hardware. And why should cartridge support mean that Mini NES should be more expensive when these Mega Drive systems have cartridge support and are cheaper?
@Kirk That Mega Drive includes 80 16-bit games, two controllers and accepts cartridges, while Mini NES includes 30 8-bit games, one controller, does not accept cartridges and is more expensive.
@MoonKnight7 After Miyamoto saying it will take 2-3 years to have something interesting related to Mario, Reggie saying that they don't care about technical specifications (I'm sure Reggie does) and Ubisoft announcing Just Dance for NX, it could easily be Wii U 2 (or worse). :S
@PlywoodStick Thank you much for your answer! Also, we know that battery cycles are limited, so not only you need two chargers but also a few spare batteries, too.
The first thing I check when I am thinking of getting a new phone is its battery life.
@ironside1911 I have seen Mega Drive controllers with the games built in (great idea). The problem I see with Mini NES is that it doesn't play NES cartridges and it's not a cheap controller with the games built in, it's somewhere in between...
If it included all main NES games it would be alright though, but only 30...
@earthboundlink If they released a new SNES or Nintendo 64 it should read cartridges so we can play all those titles that can't be re-published due to licensing issues.
@ThanosReXXX I am not sure because right now I have Wii in the closet and Wii U in the living room, but I would swear that NES games look much worse on Wii U than on Wii, but probably they look as bad and I just can't compare.
@Kirk You are right about the colours whatever people say. I can't wait to see Digital Foundry analysing these roms. I was quite disappointed by how dull and desaturated NES games look on Wii U and I hope this doesn't happen again.
@MoonKnight7 That's true, it's just to have something on the shelves this Christmas as no more Wii U games and 3DS games are released and people know that Nintendo is killing those systems already.
@Kirk Considering that it doesn't play NES cartridges it should include at least all main NES games so you wouldn't miss anything, specially since the NES games are so old and out-of-date.
I think it's a nice idea but it probably is half-baked.
30 titles seem to be not enough and it might be disappointing that it doesn't play original cartridges (I won't deny that) but, anyway, I have to praise this idea. I never expected Nintendo to do something like this, they have done many dumb decisions this generation but this idea is something that Nintendo and their fans can be proud of. Something that Sega has done many times with Mega Drive, by the way. If Nintendo released a SNES I would buy it in a heartbeat. I even bought a French RGB Nintendo 64 to play Diddy Kong Racing and Goldeneye 007 legally in RGB. About NES, I never had it so I don't feel any nostalgia about it.
Nintendo, you are finally doing something right after many years of silliness and disappointments! Thumbs up! You just won a piece of my heart back. Keep it up!
@Kirk #1 I totally agree. Surprisingly, it is more popular than Candy Crush in US. Apps like Pokemon Go represent the easiest way to make money for Nintendo, and I'm not sure that is what I want for the same reasons you have explained.
@JaxonH Yeah, I had to do it because Fatal Frame 4 was released in Japan only and I wanted to play it on my European Wii with English subtitles. I could have not played the (original) game without soft-modifying Wii and you all know how much I love that franchise (I bought the Wii U Limited Edition of Maiden of Black Water).
Turbografx now? And where are Mega Drive, Master System, Arcade...? Wii U's Virtual Console is a shame compared to Wii's. I don't know why Nintendo has done things so badly this generation. On a side note, I'm starting to believe that the NX architecture is the same as the Wii U architecture. It will make the Wii/Wii U Virtual Console work on NX, plus all Wii U games, if Nintendo wants to make the most of the underappreciated Wii U games library. So yeah, most probably NX will be a Power PC, which is good for Nintendo's legacy and bad for third parties, but third parties aren't going to invest in NX development after Wii U's failure anyway. In the end, it would be better for Nintendo and users if NX was a newer GameCube/Wii/Wii U.
@ThanosReXXX It's not that my CDs had any dirt. They were always inside their cases and I took good care of them. At home, the most expensive Sony CD players used to show failures very soon and nobody knew why.
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, I remember that most CD readers used to fail in one year or two. DVD readers were a bit better though. So many CD players stopped reading CDs after a while and they were expensive.
@ollietaro It has some pointless dialogue (wish I did not have to talk with the missions girl at all) and the fact that the letters are tiny and blurry and there's no dub make things worse.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's NES Classic Edition is Just One Way to Revolutionise the Virtual Console
@PlywoodStick Is that a Chozo with a sceptre? I've always wondered because I don't have a clue... and it's weird.
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's NES Classic Edition is Just One Way to Revolutionise the Virtual Console
@PlywoodStick I thought the article was a joke... but nope.
Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games
@dronesplitter Pray they don't look washed out like on Wii U. Red is brown there. Even worse on the whitish GamePad screen.

I expressed my opinion on the somehow duplicated article here:

@AVahne Could it be the Wii Mini motherboard with the VC versions of the games in a NES disguise? That would be shabby!

@Kirk Me too, I have a bad feeling about NX after hearing what Miyamoto, Reggie and Ubisoft have said about it. My hype about NX is zero.
Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games
@ThanosReXXX Sega and M2 did an excellent job as opposed to Nintendo.
Re: Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition Coming This November, Ships With 30 Games
@Kirk I skipped school to buy a Nintendo 64! I can't even believe it as it was the only time I did that and I don't know how could I escape school!
But today, I'm not excited about NX at all, even though I still like games and I have Wii U, New 3DS, Xbox One and PS4.

@luigifan624 In Europe is more expensive (and Wii is region-locked). Also, I don't usually have my Wii in the living room.

@ikki5 My opinion is that if it is such a battery-sucker that's a deal-breaker. No need to argue about it.

@khaosklub It sounds like Google Ads so I guess they contact the The Pokemon Company and pay for being in the map or something like that.

@XCWarrior Only thing this is not a Nintendo idea or a Nintendo device, it's The Pokemon Company and Niantic's software for mobile phones.

@ThanosReXXX Hm, OK. I never had a Saturn but I knew it did not have a USB port. This article does not properly explains this, so thanks.
The only thing I have done is to soft-modify my Wii in order to play my (original) Japanese copy of Project Zero 4 (Fatal Frame 4).
