Re: Hands On: Creating a Quest in RPG Maker Fes

@NintendoHistory You make your own story. Essentially the software is just a bunch of assists that you need to put together. There are some pre-made maps and skills and such, but all and all you have to create the game.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lacks A Web Browser Because It's A "Dedicated Video Game Platform"

Uzuki

1) The only reason it should have an browser is because of portability. Hotels, cafes, libraries, and restaurants require you to confirm entry by using the browser. If this was just an home console it would be an non issue, but seeing as it's portable too, this will be an issue in the future for online games.

2) As stated in the interview the app will be unavailable at LAUNCH. Meaning that we will see it later, hopefully before ARMS and Splatoon come out.

Re: Persona 5 Will Not Be Coming to the Switch

Uzuki

I think people are forgetting that technically this game has it's own engine that was made with the PS3 and was in development for 4 years. Heck they had to push it back a year so they could work on a PS4 version. I HIGHLY doubt Atlus would have had access to a Switch dev kit in time to make a Switch version even if they wanted to. Why are you surprised by this?

Re: Nickelodeon Allegedly Creating Animated Film For A Nintendo Series

Uzuki

@Anti-Matter @Whopper744 Disney is infamous in the corporate world as being VERY conservative when it comes to collating with other big companies. It's basically their way or the highway. Whenever they license their characters out they are VERY strict on how they are depicted and how much screen time they get.

Wonder why the Kingdom Hearts games aren't available digitally? They're scared that it would be easier to pirate. It's only been in the last 3-4 years that they've loosened upped, but they still want complete control on how products with their IPs are handled.

Nintendo is also pretty bad with trusting other companies with their IPs, so it would make sense that if there is any talk between the two for anything it probably falls apart when the discussion for control and distribution comes up. If Mickey and Mario are in a single product together it'll make a butt-ton of money and you best believe they'll both fight on who takes control and thus who makes the most money from the deal.

Re: Video: Check Out the Open World Flash Game That Never Was

Uzuki

@SaKo thing is is that I only got 6 hours in, said I would go back to it, 5 years later never picked it backed up. I believed I stopped after the Ice power mission. I'll have to take your word and hope it was good

@Captain_Gonru I'll be completely honest: From a gameplay perspective, I enjoyed JLH over MUA. Although MUA was bursting to the brim with fanservice, the pacing was much better story wise in JLH and the characters felt better and had more unique animations for each character. It's a shame that there wasn't one based off the Unlimited tv show run. It would have been amazing to play as some of the B and C-list heroes like Huntress, Captain Atom, and The Question.

Re: Video: Check Out the Open World Flash Game That Never Was

Uzuki

The closet we've ever had to a speedster with an open open world was Infamous: Second Son and it's DLC. Renove the laser beam and increase the speed and the Neon power was pretty much the flash. It's a shame that no one has come remotely close. Well maybe that JL game on the ps2, that was pretty good showcasing all the charcters and their powers and abilities. Man that game was awesome.

Re: Feature: Xenoblade Chronicles X - One Year Later

Uzuki

Is no one else going to mention the Guran Lagann reference with Kamina's glasses? I busted a gut when Tetsu turned around and said these were his dad's glasses. The entire sidequest was worth it just for that scene. Combine that with conversations that his dad was chosen to be that year's Heropon to slay a God, all I can see now is Riki piloting a giant skell and yelling "Just who in the hell do you think I am!"

I felt the writing/localization was on point. Outside of the more dramatic scenes, everyone talks like they would do today. One of my favorite exchanges was when trying to explain love to a Ma-non. You could either give him some dry cut info that we humans use to describe it or explain to him you don't understand love either because you're dead on the inside. I thought that was freaking hilarious and I love how it gives some semblance of a character even if it's just for the player's sake. It's way better then just making a yes/no or confirm/deny option and calling it day. The writers took that extra time to make responses interesting and unique and they get crapped on because some of the older folks playing lack modern day humor and would prefer it to be taken more seriously then it is.

As for the characters I can see why people have an issue with the playable ones. Outside of 7 of the playable cast, none of the other characters don't have any interactions with the main plot so unless you're spending the time to take up their affinity quests they'll come off as bland as cardboard. When you take the time to do these quests the characters are well developed and have personalities, flaws, and goals that they achieve to aspire to. They're not meant to be spotlights that try to outshine each other with super in depth backstories or unique abilities. As the writer thoughtfully wrote, they're normal human beings just like you and they're trying a new world habitable for their species.

The only thing I can really harp on is the sound mixing. Jesus Christ the sound mixing in this game is bad. It's not the tracks that are bad, it's that they drown out the dialogue every time! Like last night I was doing Hope's affinity quest and the character was explaining why they were doing what they were doing while this super loud dramatic rock song is drowning out their monologue. Then the other night it was the commander talking to the crew in his office. Everyone is using quiet inside voices while the singer is yelling at the top of her lungs about the hope and destiny of human kind.

Outside of that the game is fantastic.

Re: Nintendo Drops The Ban Hammer on Pokémon Sun and Moon Pirates

Uzuki

Lol it's hard to feel sorry for them, even if they were just "trying it out". There's a demo that covers the basics and gives you an idea on what the full game and several playthroughs of the first couple hours that you can judge from. You stole an illegal code and got caught. Sucks to be you.

Re: Rumour: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Won't Be Ready by March

Uzuki

@DragonEleven I don't know if you've done QA testing for software before, but it's not as simple as just doing a speed run for a game. You have to do everything that the game has to offer and break it to the best of your ability. That means doing tedious task such as pressing buttons rapidly during animations, running into walls for hours on end, activating every switch, flag, and variable in the game to make sure events and animations play properly, etc. Once the testers list all the bugs they found they send it back to the devs, who then fix the bugs, and they send it back again to be tested. For an open world game this is half of the development time and even then they still come out with bugs and glitches because instead of 3-4 people testing you have hundreds of thousands of people who do random things the devs didn't think to do and end up breaking stuff.

People need to get off their high horses and learn that making video games isn't as easy, cool, or glamorous as some indie devs make it out to be. It's mind numbing work with mediocre pay and the only ones making real money are the producers, publishers and,, to a certain degree, directors.

Re: Nintendo Switch to Reportedly Include 4GB of RAM

Uzuki

@BiasedSonyFan So because it's more story focus it looses its right to be called an interactive media? So in that case any game in the RPG Genre, like pokemon, isn't a video game either, because they have a narrative. I can assure that if pokemon didn't have it's story setup or the characters that give that world life, Pokemon wouldn't be as big as it is today. It's one of the reasons that Digimon, more specifically the games, didn't stick as well in the West.

Any game that comes out now is going to run the risk of being just like any other game, because there's only so many ideas that can be applied to a video game before you start making abstract nonsense. A narrative helps a game stand out among the tens of thousands of games that are on the market. The reason TLoU earned it's praised is it worked a very good narrative with solid gameplay and although both elements could stand on their own merits, they work together to enhance and strengthen each other and create an experience that isn't common in the video game market.

Look I get it, your a "don't let the peas and mashed potatoes mix" type of guy. Everything has it's place and they shouldn't mix or else it corrupts whatever it mixes, but don't you think that's a bit close minded? Video games are one of the few medians that can shape and change to fit whatever it's creator wants to and we should celebrate that. To say that the evolution of adding a cohesive narrative destroys what makes a video game an video game is the kind of thinking that will stagnate the media and keep it into "Children/Manchild hobby" that the mainstream populace sees it as now.

Re: Nintendo Switch to Reportedly Include 4GB of RAM

Uzuki

@BiasedSonyFan I would argue against TLoU's story ruining the gameplay. If you were just dropped into the world with little to no explanation about the setting, characters, or situations, the game would just be you stabbing and shooting thugs and monsters to get to the next arena. The story gives context to why the world is what it is, shows who Joel and Ellie are and what their connection to each other is, and why they are traveling half way across the country through destroyed cities , cannibal ridden areas, and infected hordes of mushroom people.

Without the story, then the game would be just another stealth shooter, just with tighter gameplay. The story, characters, and setting, help set it apart from the other games on the market and makes the game all the more better. Why is that such a bad thing that it focuses a bit more on its story?

Re: Nintendo Switch to Reportedly Include 4GB of RAM

Uzuki

@khaosklub @JaxonH @BiasedSonyFan

From what I've read from all of your posts is opinions being stated as facts. From one side we have the "Active Narratives drag a game down" argument and from the other side we have the "Story instantly makes a game better" approach. The problem is that both sides are correct and wrong. Sometimes an active narrative can ruin a game, like constantly triggering cutscenes and dialogue boxes in the middle of a jumping segment in a platform game (Several Megaman games), and sometimes an narrative compliments or even enhances the gameplay by giving context to the gameplay and pushing the player to complete the game and see how the story ends(COD, Spec Ops, Almost every RPG ever made). It's mostly an person to person thing and what might work for one guy, won't work for another. It's not ok to say a game isn't a "real game" because it has an more active narrative and if a game chooses to focus on gameplay rather then the narrative it doesn't mean it's inferior to a story driven game. There's more then enough room and resources for both to exist and at the end of the day it's about balance and finding what works best for you.

Re: DeNA Closes US Subsidiary as Focus Shifts to Nintendo Partnership

Uzuki

Makes sense. Although the West is a good place for mobile business, Asia is where it's at now. With Japan basically living off the mobile market and places like China are earning more of a disposable income and blowing it on dumb stuff like mobile gaming, you'd have to be an idiot not to jump in on that market.

Re: Google Engineer Reflects on the Technical Side of Pokémon GO's Launch

Uzuki

I already knew this when the straining issues came up. What I was more surprised at was the people complaining about it when Niantic told people the issues. Although I'm quite shock to learn it was fifty times bigger then expected. As guess all that side loading was bigger then anyone could see. As the article says, it's like trying to change an airplane's engine in midflight.

Re: Random: Nintendo Censors Canadian Interview For Daring To Mention NX

Uzuki

If you think this is bad, you should follow Sony and it's fanboys. There was a reporter that had bought the PS slim a few weeks before it's reveal and reviewed it. Sony kept denying that it existed and threatened to sent lawsuits to sites and blacklisted anyone that mentioned it. And the fanboys? They said she 3D printed the device until Sony officially revealed.

@Piersen Oh me and my mom loved watching these back then. She was a devout Christian, but knew that wackadoos like this guy were way to serious and had a stick up their butt. She thought it was funny because of the way I would rage and bring up counters to a pre-recorded show. I wish I could go back in time and hand him a copy of Nocturne or Devil Survivor. His rage boner would pierce the havens.

Re: AM2R Developer Encourages Players to Support Metroid II On the eShop and to Avoid 'Hate' Against Nintendo

Uzuki

@VanillaLake Which it is fine, but it's kind of futile to complain with such bitter wording (Not you specifically, just certain other users) on a blogging website about shop pricing or legality issues with IPs when there isn't anyone that matters would read it and Nintendo hasn't shown yet that they're going to just keep increasing the price. I personally think $5 is fair enough to legally play an NES/GB game because Nintendo is a corporation first and goodwill towards the consumer doesn't pay the light bill and the people who made these games are still in the industry in some form or fashion and deserve their fair share of money for their creation too.

Re: AM2R Developer Encourages Players to Support Metroid II On the eShop and to Avoid 'Hate' Against Nintendo

Uzuki

@Kirk @Kirk @VanillaLake @nab1 I totally get the whole double pricing thing, that's why when I buy these games I make sure to think which system I'm going to play it more on. It's one of the biggest flaws of the eshop. My thing is why do so many feel like they NEED it for both systems? If the pricing is too much wouldn't it make sense to buy it on the system you play the most?

@Kirk No one here is being a Nintendo lawyer apologist. Although I can see where both sides are coming from, Nintendo is more in the right then the fans are. A lot of companies, more specifically their legal departments, are willing to look the other way with fan products as long as they aren't using assists from their commercial products and it doesn't overshadow their IP.

AM2R not only used assist from Zero Mission, but also became too popular to just leave alone. You bring up Mother 4 which is probably the best way to make an fangame. Outside of some name drops and the aesthetics, which is something that cannot be copyrighted, the game is it's own thing, but you can still see the homage in the product.

Re: AM2R Developer Encourages Players to Support Metroid II On the eShop and to Avoid 'Hate' Against Nintendo

Uzuki

We can all agree that the shop pricing is weird, but do people really think that paying five bucks is too much? Was paying $30 outrageous for a Game boy game back in 1993? I'm looking at the comments and some said they should only cost a dollar! That wouldn't even cover the cost of the server hosting the data. Look I know we aren't all rich and still want things, but if your complaining about 20 quid for a last gen game then it's more of an issue with your spending habits then with Nintendo's pricing.

Re: Video: New Metroid Prime: Federation Force Trailer Arrives, and It's Still Fighting Dislikes

Uzuki

Maybe it's just time to let Metriod go. The games don't sell, no one at Nintendo wants to work on or with the IP, and even when they try to do something different with the IP the Hardcore fan base gets upset because it's not what THEY want. I'm sure if the day they announced the NX and the trailer showed the words "Metriod: Prime 4", there would be more outrage then rejoice.

Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Uzuki

@KTT Its a big deal when a series or franchise is still as big and active after 20 years so it's a cause to celebrate. So yeah the Kanto region is going to get some special attention this gen because it deserves it. I doubt there will be any other alolan versions of other gens, mostly because in game it seems Kanto and Alola are very close or have special relationship, but in the next generation I can see them continue with other region pokemon. As for boosting them, most of the 1st got tweaked in the 6th gen to be on par with the other gens. The reason they might not be seen as often in competitive play is because of lack of duel typing for most of them, lack of special abilities, and there being 600+ other pokemon to chose from that either do the same thing with a better design or are more flexible.

Re: Nintendo Issues Takedown Notices for Impressive Fan-Made Metroid II Remake, AM2R

Uzuki

@Bolt_Strike But it's not as simple as yelling "This guy made a great game! Hire him!". If getting into the corporate life was that easy then the movie, book, and music industry would be flooding with fan products and everyone could get their shot. There are many problems that then present themselves: Which fan project do we pick? Where do these products come from? Who's making them? Is this something/someone we want associated with our brand? Is the product up to our quality? Does it fit in to our established lore of the IP? How much money would this person ask? Who's going to pay him? Who's going to cover the cost for Q&A, Marketing, and Licensing? Combine that with it they just published fan project after fan project then the market becomes flooded, even if all the products are of a high quality, and the brand can lose it's power.

Re: New Pokémon and Antagonists, Team Skull, Revealed for Pokémon Sun and Moon

Uzuki

@KTT You have to remember that this is the 20th anniversary for the Pokemon franchise so of course the 1st generation is gonna get a lot of love to celebrate that. They popularized the series so not showing them any love at this time would be blasphemous. As stated in the video the Alolan versions are exclusive to the Alola region. As for the megas they obviously play a lesser role here then they did in X/Y and OR/AS. I highly doubt they're just going to drop it after four games hyping it up. Well probably get more info on them in next month's video.

Re: Nintendo Issues Takedown Notices for Impressive Fan-Made Metroid II Remake, AM2R

Uzuki

@Bolt_Strike That a few thousand people like the old Metriod games? That's great and all but we have to honest with ourselves and look at it from a business standpoint. Metriod doesn't sell. Even in Nintendo's hayday with the NES and SNES, Metriod sold ok at best, barely covering the cost of development at worst. Heck the producers, devs, and music composer have only recently found out in the last couple of years that their games have such a following. I love Metriod and I would for Nintendo to jump back into the saddle with it, but if they don't feel like making another one or don't trust renting the IP out again, who are we to call them idiots for not wanting to invest in something that wouldn't cover it's own cost to make?

Re: Nintendo Issues Takedown Notices for Impressive Fan-Made Metroid II Remake, AM2R

Uzuki

@-DEMISE- @doomgc @ThanosReXXX @MarcelRguez Nintendo can't stop something that tangibly doesn't exist yet. Yes, these guys have been working on it and talking about it publicly for years, but unless they were talking about making any form of money off it, Nintendo or any other company wouldn't, and to a certain extent can't, touch them. Even with what the dev has shown it falls in the category of framework and as long as he kept it to himself and a small group of friends he could get away with it. But of course the devs didn't do that and released it to the public where the law could get to them. It doesn't help that the game is a remake of an already commercial product Nintendo is still selling (yes even if this version has some changes and it adds stuff it's still essentially following the narrative and gameplay of the orginal) and using assist from other metriod games like ZM, which in copyright infringement court is akin to stealing, doesn't help their case. Combine all that with how popular it became, Nintendo had to nip this in the butt or else lose their IP to the public. We were lucky to get a full 48 hours before they took action.

Re: Pokémon GO Global Rollout Delayed While Niantic Fixes Server Woes

Uzuki

@Kirk Then instead of going to a fan site, why not contact Niantic directly and complain? Going on a Nintendo fan site complaining about something that no one working at Nintendo is going to see and even if they do see the problems there's nothing they can do about it. Again Nintendo has no part of this outside of advertising it and The Pokemon Company is just loaning the IP out to the developers, the people you want to actually talk with because they made the game. The only big issue that there is with it are the server issues and that's mainly because they didn't buy enough servers and the ones they did buy are being used by people who aren't suppose to be playing the game yet.

Re: Pokémon GO Global Rollout Delayed While Niantic Fixes Server Woes

Uzuki

@Kirk Not really. Buying server space isn't as easy as going to the corner store and buying a six pack, especially when you have to take into account you have to buy enough to support tens of millions of people. They bought a certain amount for the countries that would be the most likely to spend money for the in app purchases. With everyone else getting impatient, of course it's going to slow it down and introduce bugs. The NA servers were bought to handle NA not NA, Europe, and most of South America. Also Nintendo has very little to do with this. If you have an issue with bugs and whatnot then take it to the developers, Niantic.

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Secures Top 20 Place in UK Charts

Uzuki

@RandomBlue So having people eaten when the midnight hour comes around isn't dark? Or how a young man killed a woman because he couldn't control his powers? What about when the elementary school child of that woman is plotting murder for revenge? Or how the characters are conflicted if what they're doing is the right thing and several of the characters plus the main character sacrifices his life to not only save their friends, but also the entire world? What aabout the murder of several towns people scattered all over buildings and telephones? Or when a 5 year child is dying in the hospital, because of the ravings and actions of a psychopath? How is that not dark? Because there isn't blood on the screen at all times? Or does there need to be swearing after every other word? Just because a game is more subtle with it's darker elements doesn't mean it has to be written off or taken less seriously. Majora's Mask barely has any blood or graphic pictures, but it's one of the darkest games ever made because of the subject matter it's handling and how it approaches it.

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Secures Top 20 Place in UK Charts

Uzuki

@RandomBlue Also you have to be more clear when saying Persona games are upbeat jazzy. For one P1, P2, and P2.5 play like an generic SMT game except Demon powers are directly tied to the demon you've assigned to an character. And all 4 persona games get just as dark as a "normal" SMT game. The vast difference is that instead of the story being driven by the world and the events in it, the story is driven by the characters and their reactions to the events that happen. In that Persona and TMS share a common theme, outside of that it has the core of any other SMT, but with an Idol Music dressing. That doesn't make it any weaker then the other spin-offs in the franchise.

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Secures Top 20 Place in UK Charts

Uzuki

@RandomBlue The battle plays more like Digital Devil Saga rather then Persona 3/4. The only thing that could can be seen taken from P3/4 are the Session attacks, but 1. they don't work like Persona 3/4 in that you have to hit all of the enemy's weaknesses to activate it and 2. A lot of JRPGs use joint attacks now so to say it's exactly like Persona is wrong.

Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Switched Development Direction After Six Months

Uzuki

@JaxonH I wholly agree with that. I really don't see how people were "promised" something that was clearly being shown to say they have something planned with these franchises. Now if it was something like the first 30 seconds of the Fe Fates trailer then I could totally understand, but all we got was generic stock image of various main protagonists.
