We've got to that point in the year (again) where Nintendo of America is currently advertising internships on its careers website.
At the time of writing, there are 16 positions listed, and all of them are located at Nintendo of America's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. They'll run from June through to August next year.
These internships cover all sorts of areas from IT, social media, retail and marketing, public relations, and more. To encourage applicants, Nintendo is once again rolling with the motto "get serious about fun":
"Get Serious About Fun - As a Nintendo of America Intern, you will actively contribute to meaningful projects, and gain valuable hands-on work experience with a leading company in the entertainment industry. During the program from June through August, your work experience will be enhanced with mentoring, networking opportunities and exposure to industry leaders from across the company! Whether you are in a technical or non-technical role, you will be a part of a team committed to putting smiles on faces of millions around the world."
These positions require a graduate-level foundation in your chosen field, and you'll need to be legally authorised to work in the United States. You can see the full list of positions on NOA's career page.

Who needs a coffee? 'Cause I'm doing a run
I'm writing down the orders now for everyone
The coffee is free, just like me
I'm an unpaid intern
Sorting papers, runnin' around (runnin' around)
Sitting in the meeting room, not making a sound (not a sound)
Barely people, somehow legal
Unpaid intern
An unpaid intern is equally as bad as someone working for anywhere less than 10$ an hour.
Both jobs you have someone else supporting you while you are a worse than a slave to that company.
Writing less than 10$ is even not fair. The amount IS higher, but I'll keep it at that. I graduate in May and there is NO WAY I could or should want to do that unless I take out thousands in loans or already have a second o.k. / livable wage paying (16~hr) job in the area.
Great to see that they are offering internships. Hopefully it helps people step into greater roles. I interned for 3 years as a martial arts instructor, then taught full-time for 15 years. The internship helped immensely, so if you can pull it off, go for it.
NINJA APPROVED
I like to think this is just so they can get fodder for Sakurai to beat up in Smash when he's balancing characters. You just sit down with the man for twelve hours a day, six days a week and try not to get three-stocked every time. If you manage to actually beat him, you legally own Nintendo.
@SwitchVogel "Hey, welcome, you must be one of the new Class-D Personnel."
"..."
"...I mean interns."
"What did you just cal-"
"Hey, look, it's Bowser!"
If it wasn’t in Washington it may be worth it. As it is your better off trying to go to work as a paid intern at Bethesda at one of their many US locations.
@Zag_Man Yep. When the average person can easily get loans for college now, they have to do something else to weed out the poors. Unpaid long-term internships it is!
"Rule #1: money is everything.
And you're not getting any."
Despite having a love for Nintendo software, I'd HATE working at Nintendo of America. NOA has very little autonomy vs. NOJ, and is VERY much a second-tier branch (based on local networking). Nintendo makes too many stupid business decisions to make me think that they seriously favor a data-driven / logical approach to business / products vs. the general whims of the central Japanese brass.
FYI - these are most certainly PAID internships based on the requested qualifications
Yeah looked at their career website and policies. These people are globalists and it's sickening. All successful and large corporations are like this now. Join if you're okay with losing your rights and freewill. The chances will be good if you're of a different race/culture, or if you're homo/trans. Sounds more like they're looking to oppress and lock you up to be chained under their values. They're basically saying they will shape you to be a better individual as they see fit. The world is spiraling down, "they" want a serf class, if we continue down thus path it will be that and worse. This isn't me dissing Nintendo, it's me fed up with these wicked people forcing their beliefs onto large industries through nefarious means.
You must have a bachelors degree and you must not get paid.
Hash tag dystopia
@BloodNinja call me a suck up if you want, everyone. I. I’ll think this is the dream
I seriously wouldn't bother. Probably treat employees like rubbish and dehumanise you. We all know how low Nintendo can go. If you have an opinion, probably get fired. Freedom won't be a thing either, I would imagine.
@CactusMan I don't think I did, but ok
@Torn Isn’t an multinational (that is to say ‘global’) video games company ‘globalist’ by definition?
I struggle to imagine how Nintendo of America would exist if Nintendo weren’t in some way ‘globalist’. There would only be Nintendo of Japan, and the only way the rest of the world get Nintendo games would be via import.
With that in mind, the idea of a ‘non-globalist’ Nintendo doesn’t seem very attractive.
I'm 100% certain that working at Nintendo in any capacity would shatter my love for the brand. The Glassdoor reviews are not positive.
@Gwynbleidd I trust Nintendo . Coroperations may not be friends but I have deep respect for them
Not all internships are unpaid. This does not specify.
This is a pretty solid opportunity for those that want to further whatever career they are going for in a similar field. I wouldn't have much use for this though. I have never used an internship to get where I am today, but the possibility of working for Nintendo for a short while is pretty cool to think about. I think that even if I lived in the area, I would be too nervous to apply!
"graduate-level foundation"
Don't know what that means - you graduated with an AA/AS or you are an upperclassmen in college or you have a BA/BS and are in grad school working on an MA/MS.
Whatever the meaning, these internships should be paid w/any if those requirements. Not saying they are, but they should be.
My son is a sophomore in college and he is REQUIRED to have 2 "co-ops" the next 2 summers in order to graduate and I know all of those are supposed to be paid.
@InkIdols I mean, interning for Nintendo of all companies, must be a dream for someone! Internships are great, because they give the intern an opportunity to distinguish themselves. Being able to intern when I was learning how to teach martial arts was an invaluable experience, and it carried into many other things I did. It was tough, because I had to work a separate job to make it work, but it was worth it! Obviously, if the work environment is toxic then you will get toxic results, but I highly doubt Nintendo falls into that category.
@BloodNinja Yeah! for all the flak we sometimes give them, they genuinly seem like one of the best video game companies to work at!
@InkIdols If I were a games developer, working at Nintendo would be great.
@rjejr An internship represents a great risk for the employer, since they are usually putting new people in such positions. Not every intern wants to apply themselves, keep that in mind! Especially when they are fresh out of high school/still in high school.
@BloodNinja It's 3 months of someone following someone around asking them questions, probably very low pay with zero fringe benefits, there is basically like no risk to the company at all. 🤷
"During the program from June through August"
@Maximumbeans "now please look at this picture of this person when we leave the room."
Friendly reminder that back in the 3DS days the higher ups cut their own salary when the profits were getting low. And if you’re a game dev they’ll delay their games so they don’t get rushed. I bet working at Nintendo would be a dream come true!
