@HeroOfCybertron I don't really understand comments like this. If software has bugs, they should be fixed. You'd rather have a bunch of insecure software running on your device? This guy is being pretty open about his findings, and game developers shouldn't be upset about this. It happens, exploits are found in everything, even Google code. In every other industry, the developers usually apologize and issue a fix as quickly as they can. However, everyone here is getting all pissy and blaming Smealum for ruining things. Besides, the Youtube app needs to be fixed. I've known for a long time about how to get out of the youtube sandbox and use the app as a regular web browser. After getting that far, plenty of things cause the app to crash, which is likely how he sneaks his code in. The fact that it got this far is a fault of the developers, they should have fixed this long ago.
I've never understood why people are so against hacking. Yes, Nintendo made the console, but you bought it, you paid for the device, why aren't you allowed to tinker with it and run your own code? I get that most of you probably only play games, and don't really look at things from the perspective of a developer or hacker, but once you've coded a bit in your life, you'd understand why people like Smealum exist. Also, hacking is not a bad thing. So many people use the media definition of hacking, but hacking does not equal criminal activity. It's just playing around with things and making them work differently than designed. Quit making this guy out to be some terrible person when he just wants to have fun with his (not Nintendo's) 3DS.
When 60% of the stuff on there is crap (personal assumption based on my risk taking and buying a lot of eshop games), it's not worth taking risks. Unless you research the game before you buy it, there's a solid chance it's gonna suck. Demos would be useful, but it would also be useful to just have better quality control. Has that game destroying bug in Grinsia ever been fixed? That's what Nintendo should be focusing on, not begging their fans to take risks and waste money. This is just pathetic.
Really? Facebook buys Oculus and Reggie honestly thinks it's not going to be social? Yeah, it's only tech right now, but that's not a bad thing, it's an opportunity. Nintendo needs to be jumping on this as well, but it sounds like they're going to take the same approach as they did with high definition and wait too long.
I'm kind of thinking that their game Titan Attacks! on the 3DS will be added to the humble bundle next week. Both it and OlliOlli, which is already in the bundle got version updates yesterday.
For anybody who bought it first couple hours it came out, did you get the full Moon Chronicles, or just episode 1? I don't remember seeing that "Episode 1" below it when I first looked. It's about the only thing I want in the bundle, but for the current price, it's really not worth it.
@Zombie_Barioth I think the simulation is referring more to the farming than the actual life. But with our current technology, it's not really feasible to make any sort of life sim without scripted events
I saw a commercial for it in Canada already. Not gonna lie, it was godawful. The music was terrible and it barely even explained what the game was. I really hope it didn't take Mariokart levels of funding to make it
Considering they mention targeting wider generations of people as well, I'm really hoping their approach to female gamers isn't just making everything pink and girly. I hope it's more like the "games but not really games" genre of things like Art Academy and Brain Age that made the DS and Wii so damn popular.
@kamifox1 Yeah, both the GBC and the 3DS have infrared. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the yet to be launched amiibo pad is the very first thing to ever use that infrared on the 3DS.
@kamifox1 I'm in engineering at college, meaning I've taken a few classes on circuitry, and have even made my own infrared transmission circuit before. I pulled out my GBA Wireless Adapter to check, couldn't find any infrared LEDs or anything. I couldn't tell for sure what it was, so I looked up it's FCC ID, which is something that every product has to have if it's sending out wireless signals.
It operates in the range of 2426.248 - 2456.576 MHz, meaning it's definitely 2.4 GHz radio frequency, not infrared. It makes sense, cause you can use this device to find nearby players, it doesn't need line of sight to connect with someone else.
@kamifox1 I know the gba transmitter wasn't bluetooth, but are you sure it was infrared? I could have sworn it was using radio frequencies or something.
Only one person so far has likened this to Steam? I was expecting more people to make connections there. That would be awesome if Nintendo was moving in that direction though, because their current account system needs a huge revamp.
Wow, that's really nice on their part. So many devs nowadays would just say "Hey, you want that miiverse integration? Come buy our sequel!", but it's good to see them actually updating the old one.
I would like this game, but I've already got Colors! 3D and barely even use that.
@Poketendo I don't know about other people here, but I bought Pokemon Trozei last summer, and I've put maybe 3 hours at most into it. I've put over 18 hours into Pokemon Shuffle. I don't know about other people, but I personally prefer the lack of time limit in Shuffle, and that's the sole reason I play it more.
Bought both of the Mighty Switch Forces for $1.50 each, and I'm considering Aeternoblade, which is on sale for $6.00 right now. Think it's worth it? I already have Code of Princess and Senran Kagura, not sure I need another side scrolling beat em up.
I don't get why people are so against this. Have you really never done anything just to see if you can?
Also, an arduino costs like 5 bucks on ebay. It's an entirely open source project, so you aren't forced to buy a genuine Arduino made in Italy to do this. Some people already own them, like myself. I've got 3 of them already because some people enjoy making things themselves.
@Inkling
The entire poster is pretty unclear. Usually in cases like this, they'd be explicit and say something along the lines of "Game and figure sold separately", which they haven't. I doubt they actually are bundling it, since Nintendo loves to get as much money out of people as they can, but who knows? The poster doesn't really indicate for a fact that they're being sold separately.
@RCMADIAX @Jamester0722 Actually, it does say "Gold Amiibo Edition", which would imply it's a special edition version of the game. It might be bundled.
I mean, I'll download it when it comes to North America, but I already own Trozei, and I've spent a grand total of maybe 3 dollars in games, so I have zero intention of ever paying for jewels.
>Before, there was a very limited difference between the 3DS and 3DS XL: other than size Am I wrong in thinking that XL refers to the size of the product, and nothing more? This is a really stupid comment.
Well, if they keep this up, I'll just buy a European New 3DS and then they won't get any game money from me either cause of the region locking. Good on you Nintendo, you're pissing off a lot of faithful customers here.
Wow, I must have gotten lucky earlier, sounds like the site's crashing pretty hard now.
Just a heads up for when you do get in, make sure to go into the settings and turn on the advanced features. It adds a lot more stuff, including layers, which are a must for anything serious
So, how long until Nintendo sues them for ripping off the Gameboy design?
I'd like to build one of these myself though. Been playing with the Raspberry Pi since it first released, and it's a really nifty little device. With the release of the Raspberry Pi 2, I think it's time for me to take advantage of the 3D printers at my college and make a custom handheld.
It actually kind of sickens me how entitled these lets players are becoming. Illegally posting someone else's intellectual property and monetising on it is bad enough, but to try and tell the company that they're in the wrong because they want to curb some of this illegal activity is nothing more than childish entitlement. PewDiePie is already making something like a million bucks a year from playing video games and screaming like a stupid idiot. He's a plague on the industry and the only thing he does is make bad games more popular than they deserve to be.
Anybody think the reason for giving out codes like this rather than just giving it out to everyone is a preventative measure to try and keep their eshop from crashing every time a big demo comes out and everyone flocks to get it at the same time? I remember when I got my 2DS for christmas, I couldn't get onto the eshop for like 3 days because Nintendo's servers couldn't handle the new rush of people.
@Heiki Thanks man! Got the second code. By the way, copying and pasting these codes into https://eshop.nintendo.net/redeem/ is far faster than typing it manually into your 3DS
After more or less beating Fantasy Life recently, I decided to pick up a new RPG game last night. I was really considering this game, but went with Rune Factory 4 instead. I knew this wasn't a legit Harvest Moon, but I thought it could still be fun. Sounds like I made the right choice though.
@GamerJunkie I assume you're talking about the humble bundle, and that's the old Shantae, the DSi version. It's not really fair to compare bundles of games to a single game for purchase, and if you check steam, Risky's Revenge is selling for $10.99, only a dollar cheaper than on the eshop, which really isn't a big difference. I agree that Nintendo overprices a lot of things, and rarely drops things down in price permanently, but this isn't really a good example of that.
@jariw What I mean is, anything above 30 fps in videos still just feels weird to me. I can't really explain it. Even though I play games in 60 fps, and that feels normal, watching a video of it in 60 fps just feels different somehow. I'm sure I'll get used to it once it becomes more common.
60 FPS works perfectly fine in Nightly Firefox as well. Not sure about regular Firefox though. 60 FPS videos still seem kinda weird to me. I guess since we're all so used to 24 FPS for movies, it just seems unnaturally smooth.
@Specter_Twilight Fantasy Life has been selling incredibly well, and it's already got a puzzle for Streetpass, so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we got a theme or two out of it. If they do make a Fantasy Life theme, I'll be buying it even quicker than I got the Animal Crossing one.

The 3DS XL still has the incredibly tiny 400x240 pixel screen that looks terrible even at the size of the regular 3DS. Not everyone's bothered about this, but compared to my 1080p laptop, or my 840x480 phone (low resolution, but for the size it's still eons better than the 3DS), the 3DS screen just looks awful. Not saying big screens are bad, but when you take the same resolution and blow it up way bigger, you're not gaining anything from it.
@DualWielding If you look at how this thing is made, it's hardwired to simulate the actual button presses on the 3DS. This doesn't add any extra buttons or features, just a different method of pressing down the physical 3DS buttons.
@gusmento01 I totally understand that, but they require that the user of the software credits them, and if they make any changes to the code, like they did, they have to freely publish those changes, which they didn't.
Wow, it amazes me how many people here don't understand licensing in the slightest. When almost any software is released, it's released under a license (You know, those things you agree to without reading every time you install a program on your computer?). If software is released under an Open Source license like the GPLv3, it doesn't mean that anybody can take that code and use it however they want without giving credit. It means that people are allowed to look at the source code and if they want to, they can change it to fit their needs. In the GPLv3's case, like mentioned above, it's actually a legal requirement of the license that you have to give away any changes you made to the code.
There are licenses that allow you to do whatever you damn well please with the code, such as the Creative Commons license, and the Public Domain, but that's not what's being used here. Open Source licenses can be held up in a court of law, so for people like @minotaurgamer , you might want to recheck your facts. The creators of these emulators are completely in the right here. Hyperkin really screwed up by stealing this code.
For all you Europeans who already have the game, I've got a question. In Art Academy 3DS, when you're painting, the paint tends to lag slightly behind the stylus. It's not too hard to get used to, but it can cause some issues when you're trying to quickly cover a large area. Is there any problems with paint lag in this one? I know it's not a flaw in the hardware, since I have First Semester as well, and it works perfectly.
