The world of PR stunts is rather peculiar, often involving tenuous links to major events in order to gain attention. The latest effort from Nintendo of America made quite a few of us raise an eyebrow, and in a bout of irony and counter-productiveness we're sharing it with you. Because it's a bit silly.
It's Oscars weekend, in which movie stars will have a nice night out, tell a gaggle of red carpet press 'who they're wearing' and no doubt enjoy some fancy snacks before and after the ceremony. Oh, and some of the year's best films get recognised.
Nintendo's pitched in, then, with it's own Film Awards - some raise a smile, while others are a tad crazy.
You can see them below - Oscar worthy or deserving of a Razzie?

I still can't believe Best Barrel Roll award didn't went to"Interstellar". It's all a sham!
LOL
Kinda disappointed the Honorary Bird Award didn't go to "Birdemic" — one of those "so bad it's good" movies.
Meh, all of these are overrated movies. :/
Wow that's hilarious! 😄
Birdo amiibo incoming
@BlatantlyHeroic Agree with some, disagree with some.
I hope to win the Honorary Birdo award one day.
I think Captain America:TWS probably had better fight scenes than Dawn.
Okay, who wrote these? /
Where was this posted at?
What a salty article.
Good fun from Nintendo, which probably took an intern 5 minutes to make.
Honorary Birdo Award lol
@EmiMacthePC
I bet Audrey did.
Anybody else thinking the quality of these is like, worse than some kid on DeviantArt? Doesn't look like something Nintendo would make
Way more interested in this - than the 'real' oscars.
I fully, unabashedly support this dumb thing
Haha
Nintendo are pretty cool/weird.
Two things I love gaming and movies! To me this was awesome =L
This is so funny but also weird! I love some of these movies but these are some strange oscars.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes won an award? All those monkeys and they didn't even Hoo-Hah. 2/10.
Nintendo is allowed to do this?
LOL. I like it!
Jijiji, XD, This is very funny, well, There are more awards?
@outburst; Great Image! XD
I like this!
These are a lot of fun actually.
And I know these aren't real awards, but really. Best fight scene in a movie goes to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Did they forget Godzilla came out this year. That was a great movie. It had a few problems, but the final fight scene was definitely not one of them.
Welp, my life goal is now to win an Honorary Birdo award. Without it, life is meaningless.
@Shiryu I think that one was more like a Spin Attack or whatever is called in Fzero.
its cute, and harmless, approved!
And the Most Fun-loving Company Award goes to Nintendo, yet again!
I think a music award named after Ocarina of Time (or Koji Kondo) ought to be a real thing.
Well, at least it looks more interesting than the real Oscars!
Birdman was... Different..
The coveted Birdo award...
I got the email from Nintendo about this. I didn't think it was legitimately from Ninty at first but I guess this news article confirms its authenticity.
This is hilarious IMO. Obviously they're just joking.
Yeah, this is pretty much actually funnier than the bland and inoffensive humor the Academy usually tries to feed people to convince them that "We're totally not snobs, honestly!"
I'm glad they are acknowledging samus at least!
Stupid as it is, I love it
LOL, so funny
Heh, there needs to be a Fire Emblem themed award in here somewhere...maybe "The Fire Emblem Award for Tipping the Scales." (or in this case, the box office) XD
Or maybe "The Fire Emblem Award for Best Cast"?
Whoever cropped Link's sword in the "best fight scene" image did a really bad job of it.
Actually this is funny.
A general gaming award show would give Captain America 2 the Overhyped Watch_Dogs award. It has to be a general gaming one because I couldn't think of a Nintendo game that was overhyped and fell flat.
@MadAdam81 "I didn't like this movie, CLEARLY it's overrated!"
@outburst And now I'm going to go replay W101 because it is that good. Team! Unite up!
This is awesome, just cuz nintendo actually made it.
