Re: R-Type Dimensions III Blasts Its Way Onto Switch Consoles Next May

The_Nintendo_Expat

@PJOReilly

thanks for the writeup! this is incredible news, i never thought id see my favorie game in the series given any attention, at this point.

"R-Type Dimensions III sees players return to the franchise's signature side-scrolling bullet hell warfare"

Rtype 3 has no "bullet hell warfare" whatsoever, and pre-exists that subgenre by years, afaik. id add also that rtype games in general have fewer "bullets" per sé than even contemporary shmups. ✌️

additionally, no mention was made in the article (and only extremely vaguely in the quoted PR) that this is a remake of Rtype 3. newcomers would read this article and think that "Rtype Dimensions 3" is a new entry in the series. ✌️👍

"Would you expect the average Tom, Dick, or Harry to be able to make any sense of it if Nintendo were to release exhaustively detailed notes on every little update that they make? I'm sure their work is tedious enough without also having to write up a press release that is of little interest (or relevance) to the public."'

it's not for everyone, it's for those interested, and it's very normal stuff outside of Nintendoland. even small studios and one person operations manage it. ✌️

why shouldn't paying customers know what they are getting? (seemingly important stuff has happened, like BC for more games or ppls ethernet ports "magically" working again. how is this not relevant information to the "average" user?)

incidentally, my work can be "tedious." perhaps I should just be paid for not doing it. 👍 thank you.

@KayFiOS

FWIW and you may know this and/or disagree, but this game is a poor imitation of mode 7 F Zero. If you havent played OG F Zero in a while you might think its close but if you go straight between them it's very obvious ✌️

btw ive been playing X and GX, this time on my steam deck (relax, everyone 🚨 i own both physically, and more than once) and WOW 😲

suffice to say, if i produced these games I would be SO proud of them!

The_Nintendo_Expat

@Tayrailbridge

"both boxes literally show the same amount of the table. JP just has brighter lights + metroid, which honestly makes it too busy."

you used the word "literally" incorrectly (i think the word you are searching for is "actually," or, just leave the word out completely,) and you are wrong about the amount of table shown on each, look again.

but you used punctuation correctly. 7/10. 👍

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Metroid Prime Pinball

The_Nintendo_Expat

both horrible. what a mess, and with samus statically looming over it all like a ghoul. (and on the wrong side of the table 😂)

both covers look like someone's first rough idea, on a monday morning so to speak. the only difference is one is under baked, the other, over.

i voted JP for the extra effort and im using that term lightly. NEXT!

"Their diehards will just complain about the extra step that they didn't take. Offer no manual, "make a manual." Make a manual, "translate it." Etc."

manuals? in the language the buyer speaks? 🫨

next they'll want the labels on the games to be self adhesive so they dont have to glue them on themselves!

do those die hard fans want Nintendo to go out of business?

perhaps as a cost saving measure, Nintendo could print the covers in color-by-number, and the fans can provide their own crayons. let the "diehards" find some way to complain about that!

Re: Metacritic Shares Updated List Of "Every Metroid Game, Ranked"

The_Nintendo_Expat

Itcs all relative, people!

8/10 isn't a bad score! it's a terrible score for a trans-generational Nintendo first party game in a console launch window, 8+ years in the making.

but it's not an objectively bad score. everyone should try to enjoy the game on their own terms, regardless, but dont act like "just above average" is just fine for this game, at this time.

at one point long ago, i realized that small legal pad sheets fit perfectly into gamecube/ps2 style cases, in front of the manual, so i put one sheet in all my favorite games and when i occasionally play one, ill write a little note about it and/or read notes ive written in the past. some of the notes are from over 15 years ago now!

anyway your idea made me think of that, and fwiw i encourage you to do it! 😊✌️

i forget that not everybody emulates 🥴 and fair enough! its tough being an honest gamer with limited resources.

(though i wonder about the mobile port that ive only just now learned of... 🤔 i dont normally play mobile games but if it was my only way to play this game...)

i hope you get access to this game soon one way or another because its as good as we/they say 😊👍

@mikegamer

ill take the sound quality. 👍 its all about the OST for me, as i remember a surprising number of the tunes but almost none of the dialogue.

("wake up crono something something millennial fair" thats about what I've got 😆)

BTW is the script all that different? I'm a little surprised to hear they bothered given the SNES game's stellar reputation, and the fact that re-translations arent generally unit movers (unless the game was already tremendously popular, but with a notoriously bad localization i guess? i cant think of an instance personally. ✌️)

Re: Digital Foundry Delivers A Tech Analysis Of Assassin's Creed Shadows On Switch 2

The_Nintendo_Expat

this hobby is looking more and more like a spectator sport.

i cant imagine caring how a game runs specifically in comparison to another port unless i owned both platforms, i didnt care about portability at all, i had no preferences about the controller or other differences between them, and i only had money to buy one version or the other.

EDIT - i suppose if id just purchased some expensive new hardware, and I was feeling uncertain id made a good choice, i guess id care.

i tell you hwhat: when i got my dreamcast, i didnt need to see comparison shots with the psx version of THPS2 to know it was officially "the future" lol 😂✌️

"Since it's a game I never played I would love to see it get remade, same goes for a lot of other old jrpgs"

these games are the last games sin the entire world that need remakes, imo.

i highly recommend just playing Chrono Trigger as is, however you can. it's perfect, "updating" it would be an act of pure hubris.

go ahead and play Arc the Lad while you are at it! i just got started with it and i cant BELIEVE it has taken me this long! 🤩😍🥳✌️

@HammerGalladeBro

"without Akira Toriyama, the original Dream Team won't be together again for another go."

sadly true!

my dream has been for a long (long) time (before "remakes" became very common) that they would start remaking these classic JRPGS as close to the source material as possible.

For example, FF6 or FF7 fully in Yoshitaka Amano's illustration style, or Chrono Trigger in Akira Toriyama's.

Obv. with the FF7 remake they went in a different direction (kind of a reinterpretation of the original reinterpretation kf the style) and now that Toriyama is gone, i just want them to leave Chrono Trigger alone!

anyway, i wonder what the steam version is like? maybe it has some of the features of the different ports blended together, as you say. ✌️

Re: Drag x Drive Devs Tried Wheelchair Basketball In Prep For Game

The_Nintendo_Expat

I'm still kinda hung up on the first thought i had regarding this game:

they're robots in wheelchairs?

why do they have legs? do they work? do they have other functions in "life" besides playing basketball?

seems like a great opportunity to feature disabled humans in a game, in a positive light. are robots just easier to draw? 😮‍💨 i think that's it actually.

is it weird that i like the look of the low poly prototype over the gray on gray nothing they eventually settled on?

"Nintendo yet again revolutionized the standards of what games can be, this time the fps genre."

oh please, you haven't even played the game yet and I've seen no one that has played it say anything close to this.

i know you have your agenda or whatever it is but you could at least seem like a real person with genuine opinions. 👍 it would be more effective.

"For every Galaxy or Breath of the Wild or Mario 64 there's been an Other M or Sushi Striker or Pilotwings."

this is obv the most subjective thing in the entire world but Pilotwings is a masterpiece and one of my favorite games of all time ✌️ and the Soyo Oka soundtrack is among her finest work and that's really saying something in my opinion!

Re: Random: "Splendid Game" - Shigeru Miyamoto Was A Fan Of Banjo-Tooie

The_Nintendo_Expat

@ROMhaiku

thanks for that! im looking around, too.. and i do see where people have the opinion you say, finding the game big and hard to get around.

I believe this to be a reappraisal, as i am confident in my memory that the game was incredibly well received at the time, and that the big levels were definitely en vogue and appreciated too. it was one of those late 64 games that still looked impressive even though Dreamcast had come out. I'm sure that it was considered an all around upgrade to Kazooie on release.

Granted, that was then, this is now. i get that. but from any perspective, it's the second best received Banjo game by a country mile, and it's not even close. it is indeed the only sequel considered by anyone ive ever heard from as in the league of the first, if not an outright improvement on the formula.

anyway thanks for chiming in! i may have been a little hot with my take, alas. ✌️

Re: Random: "Splendid Game" - Shigeru Miyamoto Was A Fan Of Banjo-Tooie

The_Nintendo_Expat

"Banjo-Tooie isn't the most beloved adventure in the bear and bird's series, but it has its fair share of fans."

what an odd take for a series with two games generally known as equally excellent and then a few sequels that are not remembered fondly at all.

did you just write this for "engagement?"

honestly, i understand the concept, but to the people already "engaged" this kind of trolling along with the clickbait headlines and editorializing in news articles is getting tiring, and more frequent over time.

thanks for your consideration ✌️
