@Haxxor interesting. What then makes you use the dismissive phrase "SJW"? Surely MeToo is a social justice issue. Surely anyone who uses the phrase SJW hates the idea of justice and just wants the world to never get better?
Nintendo e-shop gatekeeper: A build-your-own platformer, eh? Do we really want to allow this to be released so close to... (plays game) Ah, ho ho, never mind.
I saw the credits and was very happy to do so. I destroyed my thumbs in the process, can't get past a single screen of the B-sides (let alone C-sides!?) and I'm shocked that devs like this one and the Hollow Knight dev seem to be so compulsively generous that they want to keep adding free content to games which already released with more than most dedicated gamers will ever even see.
Thanks guys. I should shut up about V-Rally but I found with that game, slowing down doesn't make turning any better at all. You just coast slowly towards the wall, it's maddening, especially if you've ever played a serious game like Dirt Rally where it's all about the braking and only a maniac would abuse the handbrake.
@Microjak @JayJ would you mind commenting on the handling please? I've heard the track is great, the speed is great. But when you push the control stick, does it turn instantly? Does it turn enough? Or do you find yourself blowing out into every corner?
NL said that Saints Row was smooth as butter so I can't really trust them all the time for this stuff...
@GrailUK I'd happily take some good Xbox 360 racers on the Switch.
At the moment we have cartoon racers, mobile phone racers, AA racers (I haven't been game to try those janky looking motocross games), and a couple of struggle-to-keep-up AAA attempts. I'll take a slick last-gen AAA racer for sure.
After sinking hours into V-Rally mainly because its all the Switch has insofar as proper AAA racing, I am so close to biting on this one but there are some important questions first: 1. Are the bikes responsive and do they feel good to handle? This is the main problem with V-Rally: every corner is a total pain, for most of them you require a handbrake to even start turning (braking does nothing, nothing!) and playing docked gives you gamebreaking input delay. 2. Do the shadows paint in onto the track 5 metres in front of you? This is a ridiculous distraction which still hasn't been patched out - seriously, there is no ignoring it, it looks atrocious. Devs please just remove the shadows if the system isn't powerful enough to render them properly.
If I hear good things on these points from the community, I'll gladly buy TT Isle Of Man at full price.
I love Deponia. And I'm very used to the Switch tax. But when I saw that this one game costs $60 AUD on the e-shop, I honestly couldn't believe it. $60!! Even when new, the individual games were never more than $20 on Steam. And these days they are usually about $2 on GOG.
This pricing is absolutely shocking, and it definitely should dominate any conversation about this release. Hats off to Nintendo Life here for breaking their own "prices change so we review games based on their merits" rule.
Back when I was a pup (let's say 8 - 13, prime Disney demographic) I played games on the SNES / Mega Drive such as Aladdin, Quackshot, Mickey & Donald's World of Illusion... I have to say, those games piqued my imagination like no other, and stay fondly in my memory more than the likes of Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Alex Kidd etc from that generation. Whether developing or just licensing to other developers, Disney absolutely has to stay in games. I won't play Disney games anymore, but you bet your ass the next generation will.
This switch bricking issue is a perfect candidate for a proper article / guide from NintendoLife. Without hyperbole, when it came out in 2018 that third-party docks were bricking Switches, the messaging from everyone - especially the gaming press - was that the Switch will never be safe again to plug into any dock other than the official Nintendo one. But companies keep making them, and these days NL is happy to run articles on new funky docks as though they are just another accessory like any other, as opposed to the death sentence we've been led to believe. Has the situation changed or something? Of course Nintendo themselves will always advise to use their official products. We need publications like NintendoLife to be our guiding light here. Which docks are safe? Which docks are unsafe? As someone who would love to try one of these products, I find it frustrating that the same publication which told us that all docks are poison is happy to recommend new docks. What exactly is the cause of the problem, if it's not just "a firmware update caused the Switch to now brick if you plug it into a third party dock"?
This doesn't make a lick of sense to me. What would be the purpose of putting a Discord app on Switch? As we've seen with YouTube, the Switch can only do one thing at a time. So you could play a game, or you could quit it to use Discord. Which is surely pointless!
I've only played it handheld so far but the driving is so, so bad. Was it always this bad? Or is the frame rate just low? It feels like a two-second delay between moving the control stick and actually steering.
Sky Rogue is great. That game spent 6 months at the top of my most frequently played list. I'd just pick it up for 10 - 20 minutes of swooshy dogfighting in a clear blue sky, anytime I glanced at my Switch. It's like the game was made for the machine.
@Racthet916 on the contrary, the people who care enough to complain about sonic's look are definitely the ones who will be wanting to spend their money on a sonic movie they consider "good"
Yeah, I too am not super enthusiastic about hitting up sketchy torrent sites for roms. Good thing I did plenty of that in the mid 00's, and saved all the roms!
Is anyone else suspicious that this happened at the same time that the Labo VR is launching, and someone gets this mysterious unlabelled cartridge with no top so when they put it in their switch and switch it on they will get sucked into a world of virtual reality where they have to fight the neon lasers to escape but perhaps it's the real world??
i.e. The Switch if it were possible to run emulators on it without destroying it for normal use. i.e. What I was hoping I'd be getting eventually back in March 2017. Yeah I'm entitled. So be it!
I love the look on the player's face when he first started running around at the beginning of Mario 64...IN THREE DEE! I honestly remember that feeling. What a time to be alive.
@Tim_Vreeland I too tried this out on the Genesis / MegaDrive collection. I really don't think a general audience will enjoy Gain Ground. It's not visually appealing, it's hard to comprehend, your first encounter with it is to walk 3 steps and die. Definitely one for the hardcore retro enthusiasts I'd say.
Yes I would absolutely love to see this game on the Switch. In fact, all great indies should be on the Switch. I know we have it pretty good already, but as a great man once said: 90% is not 100%. No game left behind!
GTA San Andreas pool still stands as the best for me. Oh, you walked into this random bar in a game where you could be having jetpack uzi fights or driving trucks across country? Have a fully featured pool game, on the house.
Playing Landstalker right now on the classics collection in Switch. Man if only I knew sega had games like that back then. It definitely belongs on this little machine.
For people saying there's better dating sims out there and better hentai out there... Well that may be true but don't underestimate the X factor of slick, 3D, well animated graphics, actual control of the girls and the camera, and cute activities to really get your head in the game so to speak.
@Drac_Mazoku I have to admit I've only tried 2 of them, on mobile because I was craving a JRPG. Couldn't get past 30 mins because it felt so hollow to me compared to real SNES classics. But thanks for explaining more about their good points - clearly someone is buying these things.
@Drac_Mazoku you must have infinite free time and be absolutely insatiable for JRPGs! Seriously, we have sega classics, NES classics, final fantasies, retro throwback indies by the truckload, late-season ports like tales of symphonia and atelier series, new fresh stuff coming through from japan, Xenoblade, Ys, Zelda... And you're playing all of Kemco's 50-odd lazy, depressing, soulless, factory-churned-out garbage apps?
@Roam85 Wayne Gretzky's 3D hockey was the absolute bomb. I was such a ninja at that game it was scary. Turbo powercheck steal, onetimer to flaming shot that sends the goalie flying into the net. And then manual instant replay! The best part was when the periods ended - the score would come up and the announcer would read it out, but you could still control the players so it was just a frantic melee to try to smash each other as much as possible. That, and the fact that every powercheck triggered a one-second ambulance sound effect... True gold.
