Ouch

One of the welcome (and rather odd) additions to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was that of shield surfing, wherein you can ride any shield in your inventory down any slope for some radical boarding action. It's admittedly an easily forgotten feature with the breadth of things to do in the game, but it can be fun every once in a while to climb a particularly high mountain and just see how far you can make it down on a shield.

Amusingly enough, a YouTuber named Helix Snake was trying to do this earlier on a pot lid—one of the worst shields in the game—and got a bit more than they bargained for. After the shield breaks quickly, Link is sent on a painful tumble down the mountain for about a full thirty seconds—as his otherwise fatal wounds are repeatedly healed automatically by fairies in his inventory—before meeting a watery death at the very bottom. It's a fascinating watch to be sure, and stands as a reminder of how amusingly unforgiving the game can occasionally be.

What do you think? Have you mastered the art of shield surfing? What's the most ridiculous death you've suffered in Hyrule? Drop us a comment in the section below.
