I personally have a hard time justifying the price when I bought it on WiiU under the selects label for $20 . I played it recently again with my wife and we had a couple hours of fun with it before moving into to different things again. Now Yoshis Crafted World, there’s a family friendly 2D platformer I highly recommend (have about 45 hours on that)
SMW is for me, the best game of all time. Every so often , I fire it up just to play a level or 2 - and every time , I end up getting hooked and completing the game over a week or so including all the secret areas.
I’ve tried to get into Zelda a couple times now over the years but I never get further than a few hours in before losing interest. It just isn’t a genre I played growing up.
Metroid - got halfway through this on the SNES Mini before getting distracted by something else. It’s just such a well represented genre that I’m a bit burned out on atm so it may be some time before I go back to it.
Ahh that’s a shame. Looked interesting and it’s an actual Konami game! But yeah, removing this from the wishlist, in this genre it has to be something pretty special to get a buy from me now
Both the Handsome and Bioshock collections are in the US e-shop charts and seem to be selling just fine.
AC was finally knocked from top spot here but surprisingly it was Minecraft Dungeons, not Xenoblade that took #1
The moaning around here because of this review is really getting tiresome. I’ve seen other reviews as well that really enjoyed the Switch version of the game despite the technical limitations. At the end of the day, it’s still just 1 person and their opinion. Most will check a couple different resources before making a purchase decision.
The borderlands Handsome collection devoured my remaining SD Card space so just ordered a new 512 GB card. Will circle back to Bioshock at a later date when I’m in the market for another FPS and I should have the space available to even download it all lol.
Been really trying to refrain from buying new games to give myself some time to work through the backlog a bit - Well I caved in last night lol.
Only took 2 minutes of playing the Clubhouse games demo with my wife to realize this game is multiplayer gold. Grabbed the full release and having a blast with that.
Also picked up Borderlands handsome collection. I’ve actually never played BL before at all and have been in the mood for a FPS - this seemed the pick of the bunch of such games recently released.
Talk about poor timing lol. Still playing SoR4 , almost done with Hardest mode now. Next brawler I’m buying when I’m in the mood is River City Girls. Don’t see any space for this game any time soon but I’ll keep it in mind if it goes on a sale.
I don’t know if I would use cheap to describe the look of the game lol, but I think it’s fair to say the high standard for 2D games is Cuphead, Monsterboy, SoR4 and this falls a bit short of those games. For a $30 release , I do think expectations can be a bit higher now.
10 hr playtime is fine but I like to see at least 1 hr of gameplay for every $2 spent. For these reasons I think WF is a bit high in their pricing here and will wait for a sale
Look forward to picking this up later this year but will wait for a price drop to $20 and need a bit of a break from the genre right now. Glad they ditched the sterile 2.5 d look here, though it looks a notch or 2 below Monsterboy
Quite a few things this week I’m interested in, but I’ll probably hold off buying anything for now. I’m 3 weeks into AC:NH and anything I buy now would just be tossed in the “to be played at a later date” bucket that’s already starting to overflow.
Also some games where the price is right but the HDD requirements are a bit much. I can see myself double dipping on Bioshock 3 at that price but it needs 20GB??
Anyways , on my wishlist are going:
Shantea (normally would be all over this but just got done with Monsterboy)
Xeno - just don’t have the 70+ hours now but I’m coming back for this one later when I do
Borderlands/bioshock - want to see some reviews on well the ports hold up technically.
Meh. Played DQ11 for 100 hours in handheld mode which could get quite blurry at times and loved every moment of it. I just prefer laying on the couch playing handheld , only use TV for local multiplayer. Will happily take that convenience over graphics fidelity.
Yes to some SoR4 DLC - ideally more playable characters, new stages and unlockable alternative looks.
I’ve said it before but new entries for Shinobi and Golden Axe would be fantastic and my top pics.
I’m also a huge fan of Castle of Illusion - don’t know if something like that is feasible , they did that 2.5d remake a few years back , but would like to see this team take a crack at it. Or one of the other Sega/Disney games really, I’m not too picky.
Always loved the JP/US artwork, remember it being used for ads in magazines and it just really tells a cool story that gets you interested. NA art work just shades it for me.
I love robots. I own many of them. Probotector just doesn’t do anything for me and I much prefer the ridiculously over the top 80s Commando type hero’s.
Would have been a good moment to release the original Pac-Man CE on Switch, really got quite addicted to setting new high scores on that 1. I played 2 only a little bit but it didn’t click with me that same way.
Never played Galaxy 1 or 2 so hoping both get released on Switch in HD. It will take something special to top 3D world as my favorite 3D Mario game though!
Minecraft dungeons looks interesting so look forward to reading the review on that. Not planning on buying anything though, stillworking my way through what I already have and picking up Xeno for sure
Bought Team Sonic Racing last holiday season on sale. It’s... ok, decent value at $20 , but it didn’t keep my attention for too long. It’s just difficult to go from MK8 to any other cart racer, MK 8 is just on a whole different level.
Thanks for the review! Booting this off the wish list ( it’s ridiculously bloated as is anyway) and sticking to Horizon for a bit of retro arcade racing for now then.
Turrican 2 on the Amiga is still one of my all time favorite games so I’m biased towards that artwork Both Turrican games on the SNES are decent as well, would love to see these added to the Nintendo online roster of games or even have someone do a Sega Ages style individual release
The more I think about it, the more I just want Nintendo to re-release some of their games under a budget label really. I totally get keeping big sellers like MK, Zelda, Odessey at full price since they’re still some of the best games you can buy and sell accordingly . But there are also quite a few Nintendo games that aren’t shifting anywhere near those numbers and have been around for years in some cases. Permanently pricing these down to $30 would be a step in the right direction I think.
I got my sub with the Tetris 99 package and thought it was good value for money. For $30 I received Tetris (duh) which is a fantastic game . And I’ve also spent a good 10+ hours each with the NES and SNES games so far. And I played Arms for a couple hours. Don’t know yet if I will resub but I’m content with the year I had for sure.
The NES and SNES games are nice but I have other ways to play those games and some of my favorite games from that era are of course not part of what’s offered. I did really like getting to play Arms for free for a few days and would like to see more of that type of incentive.
Think it’s only a matter of time before Nintendo starts adding Full games (something like Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze). It doesn’t appear like they’re interested in doing a budget Selects style range but you can’t keep charging full price for games that are over half a decade old forever either. Bulk it up some more with n64, GC and GBA emulated games and I think there’s enough there to get more people to buy into the service
1. Animal Crossing - bought this last weekend and hooked ever since. 2. Monsterboy - 25 hours in and still not finished! Just collected the gold sword , surely it won’t be much longer now. 3. SoR 4 - made it stage 12 on Hard and unlocked SoR 2 Axl who is a lot of fun to play 4. Tetris 99 - sure I’ll check out the event 5. Picross 3 - damn this addictive game. Must. Complete. Puzzles
So ehh very late to the party here but I really have to wonder about this statement:
“playing through this adventure for the 12-15 hours it’ll take you to beat it”
Now either I’m really bad at this game (a definite possibility) or this is really underselling the length of the game. I’m currenty well over 25 hours in and still have to collect all the gold equipment fragments to clear the game. I think the $40 asking price is a lot more reasonable when you take into consideration the size of this adventure.
The platforming can be challenging but fair. The puzzles are tough at times though, find myself going to YouTube often to figure out what to do next. Really great game though and would highly recommend it especially now that it’s been going on sale recently.
So FF7R being outsold by Ring Fit (which has been in the market forever) is meeting SE expectations? As has been mentioned here already, it’s not selling terribly, but for one of the biggest releases of the year, that’s not exactly great either.
Absolute domination from Nintendo in Japan, great to see. With XB , 51 games and Paper Mario right around the corner , I think there’s enough there to keep the momentum going. Really pleased to see a risk such as Ring Fit still being rewarded with such strong and consistent sales as well.
I might double dip if the price is fair but if this is getting a $60 release then no thanks. Bought this for $20 on the WiiU. I get the feeling Nintendo is building their library of older games on the Switch so they can add them to the online subscription package.
One of these days I’ll pick up Ni No Kuni ... same with the Rebel Collection that’s always on sale, I want them but I don’t just want to buy them so they can sit around gathering dust. Too many other games already ahead in the queue.
That’s really disappointing, this would have been an insta-buy for me. Surprising too as the Crash & Spyro stuff seems to be selling well on Switch. I find that many PS One era games haven’t aged well, but THPS 1&2 are both still a blast to play even today. Hopefully we will still see a Switch version released at a later date
Bought this (digitally) myself yesterday one of those games you don’t even realize how many hours you’re playing - pretty sure this wil top DQ11 for my most played game when I’m finally done with it.
I bought the WiiU a few years back specifically for that game as I was craving a 2D Mario again (SNES Mario World May be my favorite game of all time) - Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy NSMB very much. Have tried a couple times now to get into it but I just find it a frustrating game that lacks the ingenuity of other Nintendo platformers and isn’t that much fun to play. Hope you get more enjoyment out of it than I did, but I’m still waiting for a new 2D Mario game that can compete with the best the genre has to offer. A bit disappointed that with all the Mario rumors for releases this year, there hasn’t been a mention of a new 2D game.
Still haven’t wrapped up Monsterboy, which is taking me a lot longer than anticipated (currently over 20 hours in ) but should be on the home stretch now. Looking to progress further on SoR4 (hard mode) and Trine 4 as well.
My wife and I recently dusted off the WiiU to play some SMBU and DK Tropical Freeze together. Still just can’t get on with this Mario, but we’re having a good time with DK so will be playing some more of that.
Im also planning on finally joining the rest of the world in buying Animal Crossing this weekend. After a series of smaller E-shop purchases, it feels like the right time to go with something a bit larger in scope.
I own 45 games on Switch now of which there are some I haven’t played at all and others i’ld like to revisit. I have about 50 games on my wish list which includes plenty of 1st party stuff. Honestly, I’m set for quite some time, but I’m sure I’ll atill end up buying plenty of new games throughout 2020, be it Nintendo or 3rd party
Well the more choice, the better I guess. Struggling to think of anything EA has I would really want to play on Switch though. Find most of their stuff pretty stale at this point. Sims 4 would probably be the game that makes the most sense on this platform.
I do own Unravel Two ( great game and often available for $5 in sales) and FIFA 19. I know most people dislike the Switch FIFA games but I’ve had 45 hours of fun with it to date and also picked it up in a sale so no regrets here. I only get the urge to buy a FIFA game once every 8 years since the 90s though so no desire for any more for a while longer
I’m a bit overflowing in games atm due to some recent sales but I may need to make some more space for this one. Looks like it will be a lot of fun to play through (bit of a Duke Nukem vibe) will wait for reviews

HIGHLY recommend DQ11 to anybody - I’m not even a fan of the genre and loved every minute of my 100 hours with that game
