Yesterday, we shared a list of the top 15 most-downloaded Switch games in Europe for the month of May, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons had finally been knocked off top spot. But how are things looking in Nintendo's home country of Japan?
Below, you'll find a list of the 20 best-selling games on the Japanese eShop last month. Only paid downloads are included - so no free games will make the list - and information on any price drops is recorded where applicable (thanks, Perfectly Nintendo).

There is no way NBA 2K20 got to 2 without a price drop even though it isn't detailed here. I assume it saw a similar 95% sale price as the UK.
2K20 was 95% off in Japan too. 7700YEN → 385YEN (95%)
I didn't know Minecraft Dungeons was so popular in Japan
I wasn't expecting Undertale to still be on the charts.
Kinda crazy that the one region where NBA 2K hasn't gotten that crazy 95% off sale is the Americss, where the game is a massive juggernaut year-after-year (only COD and Rockstar games sell more) rather than just another typical niche title like it is everywhere else in the world.
The fact that Xenoblade is so high up despite only being available in May for a few days is solid proof that the game did super great digitally. I wouldn't be surprised if (when combining digital and physical sales) it had the best opening in series' history.
@westman98
Isn't that exactly why America hasn't got the discount?
Great to see Splatoon 2 so high up, which is even more impressive being 3 years old now. Wow, time flies...
Yay Fitness Boxing. Such an amazing game.
@TheFullAndy
I think NBA 2K19 got the 95% discount last year worldwide, so 2K20 not getting it in the Amarcas is a strange.
does anyone know when will Moon rpg come to the West....
@westman98
I guess it is still selling well enough to not require the discount.
It was a fantastic discount here in the UK but even at that proce I had no interest, just not my type of game.
Not gonna lie, I didn't read the title carefully enough, and thought this was last week's best sellers, and I was concerned that clubhouse wasn't up there
Did Streets of Rage 4 not release in Japan?
I'm glad Xenoblade is high on the list, but I wonder, do these list count pre-orders too?
There's a lot of variety here. Definitely not a bad thing! Animal Crossing: New Horizons is still a juggernaut. I was surprised at NBA 2K20 charting that high until I read the comments about it also put on sale in Japan.
