Isn’t the plot of Legends to complete the first Pokedex? So like… I can just use my living dex in Home to nearly finish that task (except for the new additions) right off the bat?
@RupeeClock I backed Monster Crown! The beta has been really solid and I look forward to getting my Switch copy in October!
For further elaboration to people interested:
The main draws of the game are breeding and fusion. Monsters have “DNA” and breeding or fusing two monsters results in a sort of cross breeds, with the new monster taking some attributes from each parent (like species, color, stats, and even typing and growth rate). The main differences are breeding keeps the parents but starts the child off at level 4 once it hatches, while fusing results in a monster with a level comparable to the original two monsters - additionally, certain fusions create entirely new monsters!
The battle system otherwise is like a simplified (though not necessarily easier) Pokemon battle system. There’s also a lot of lore, legendary monsters, and customization, but the star of the show is really the breeding and fusion. This allows you to create truly unique teams - the drawback being in multiplayer you’ll have no idea of the stats of the monster you’re facing, since everything is fully customizable once you understand how breeding works.
Oh I don’t see the “and more”, fingers crossed for a more fleshed out roadmap for Unite. It’d be nice to know what sort of events they have planned and who’s coming after Blissey (besides Blastoise).
@shinesprites thank you, I just think complaining about everything that comes out isn’t productive. We need to praise games that are done right. whether or not you like Snap, you gotta admit this game had a lot of love and attention to detail!
Who is claiming the Switch is a console first and a handheld second?? I’d definitely say it’s more of a handheld than a console - despite how much I play docked, in terms of specs this is clearly a handheld that doubles as a console (rather than the opposite).
But no, I absolutely do NOT want a pure handheld from Nintendo ever again. I prefer not having their resources split between two platforms and I prefer only having to buy games for one. It’s freed up my limited budget for other things and I can’t imagine going back to how it used to be. A hybrid console is simply my ideal, it allows me to continue my games both on the go and at home. Like I would go so far to say I’ll be upset if they go back to having their handheld and console separate. It was hard for me to financially manage that in later years and by the Wii U I was grateful that their console was getting so few titles so I could focus on 3DS - juggling both was too much for me.
I still think this conversation is silly though. The Switch is a handheld. I play it a lot in docked but more in handheld.
I hope this is the first of many updates, I don’t even care if some end up being paid. Seriously, there’s now 234 Pokemon in this game compared to the first one’s 63. We’re 18 short of having quadruple the content! This is honestly one of the highest quality Pokemon titles in years (thanks Namco), I’d happily shell out money to keep it going. Heck, I already mentally planned updates and expected to have to pay for anything we get, this is a decent amount for free in an already complete game.
@KingMike I haven’t seen many cars in the Pokemon universe. They might be insanely expensive there, so expensive that most people don’t even set eyes on them.
@Paej13 to be fair they already simplified and watered down the genre heavily. I’m not sure how they would simplify it any more while keeping it a MOBA.
@Sunsy @River3636 Claymates is actually by the same dev as Clayfight, it’s their lesser known platformer and a childhood favorite of mine. I’m super hyped to see it actually come to the service, I was certain it was dead and gone for good!
@ModdedInkling if it helps your decision, Age of Calamity is the least Musou-like spin-off out there. Expect mainline games to be further in the direction of OG Hyrule Warriors than AoC.
If the only one you liked was AoC, chances are you won’t like actual Musou games.
@tntswitchfan68 except it’s not for nothing. Even ignoring the fact that anything uploaded is forever available online (any games “taken down” can still be found now, you just have to dig for them), most creators do this stuff for the process. By the time they release this, they probably already got what they wanted from it. They probably didn’t want the limitations of Game Builder Garage, and if they cared about people playing their finished product then they would’ve used actual coding instead. But it’s not for nothing if your only goal was to make it.
I did always feel the “rewards” for clear time were a bit contradictory to the games, especially since the first game made such an effort to surprise the player by revealing the lead was a woman only at the end. Even the instructions kept up the ruse. It was the perfect opportunity to show that male players can enjoy playing as a female character just as much, and that female characters can kick just as much butt without being fan service… and then they turn fan service into a reward. It’s a minor thing, but it’s always bugged me a bit.
Just a heads up, in all official media the plural of Chao is still Chao, likely so it doesn’t get confused with Chaos. 😛 thought the author should know that at least.
That being said, man I miss the Chao Garden. I’ve resigned myself to it never returning but it was literally my favorite thing in any Sonic game…
@Oswinner I agree, I think most reviews were by people who already didn’t like games like Banjo Kazooie. It was far from perfect but I’d give the original a solid 8/10. Impossible Lair might be a 10/10, it was an amazing DKC inspired game!
@Seacliff I see that now, but I think it’s a bit ambiguous. I’m not sure whether that means 6 courses total, or if there’s 6 unlockable courses in addition to whatever courses are available off the bat.
@DekuNut @Yorumi @Seacliff @tntswitchfan68 I don’t know why people are assuming this is the entire course list. The website says, verbatim, “Here are some of the lavish locations you’ll be playing at.” “Some” implies there’s other courses, and I would assume that these are just the early courses in the game. Otherwise their wording is intentionally misleading.
I’ve only beat Salazar legit once. Every other time, I use the rocket launcher, because you get one for free in that area and it takes up so much space!
Salazar is a pain to fight anyways so I never feel bad.
@RiasGremory I… uh… are you a troll? I can’t comprehend how you know what G rank is without knowing it ALWAYS costs more, but in case you somehow are serious…
Every single MH game has required a purchase for G rank. Every single one. Traditionally this was done by rereleasing the game a second time, a year or so later, with G rank added in. Meaning you would have to purchase the game twice to get G rank, or skip the initial release altogether. These expanded versions literally had G in the title, or Ultimate in the western releases. The reason our version of the fourth game had G rank is because we didn’t even get the original release, they just waited and released the Ultimate versions. Monster Hunter World allowed G rank to be purchased as an upgrade because it finally was on a console capable of adding large digital upgrades, and that’s very likely what they’ll do here. They’ve never released G rank for free and they never will.
@Dualmask pre-Iceborne was disappointing, IMO. This is a bit better in terms of content but I think Generations and even 4 spoiled me. I hope they add some sort of endgame stuff, sort of like MHW’s investigations.
@Dualmask don’t expect any big updates after this until the eventual G rank expansion. We might get a few more monsters here and there, but it’s heavily rumored that this update and the last were originally planned to be in the base game (and, given the “ending” it released with, that seems very likely).
@NTDO89 apologies, I did not mean to imply that I interpreted it that way, I was more just giving my two cents. They are seeming to write the humans out and I’m okay with that. hopefully they hold this to the same quality as the first film though, if not higher.
I just hope there’s a way to browse uploaded games without requiring specific codes. I think that’s the most important thing in terms of whether this will succeed. Trying to scout the internet for codes is way less convenient than in-game searching (even if it makes quality control harder).
@NTDO89 won’t complain tbh. The first movie was good but I would rather have the focus be on the Sonic characters. Adding Tails, Knuckles, and the Master Emerald adds a bit more plot material - it was understandable why they needed the humans when it was just Sonic and Eggman.
@Shiiva yeah, I expect them to do the same thing they did with Tennis this gen and have new characters trickle out over time. But I’m sure this isn’t the whole roster, they wouldn’t reveal the unlockable characters over a month before release.
@Giygas_95 that’s fair to not like it but that doesn’t mean only the last Nintendo published game you care about counts. Since Age of Calamity we’ve had at least 4 Nintendo published games, and even if you count 3D World as a port, that still leaves Fitness Boxing 2, Bravely Default 2, and New Pokemon Snap.
@Giygas_95 I’m not sure what you mean by “Nintendo released” but if you mean published, then we literally got New Pokemon Snap less than two weeks ago. And if you mean developed, then Age of Calamity definitely doesn’t count. 🤔
@dux apologies for replying twice, but additionally I believe they’ve shown that feature returns in this too, allowing you to save pictures you like personally so you can edit and upload them to social media.
@dux you definitely could, I replay it every few years so I’m fairly familiar with it. You’re the second person I’ve seen who didn’t realize that though, so it might just be people don’t remember the feature?
Either way, that’s how I got a lot of the stickers I printed out at Blockbuster from my N64 memory card. Because my coolest pictures often weren’t the highest scoring ones.

@nessisonett I’ve never cheesed a Souls boss, but I also barely played the series, I spent some time trying to get the feel of the controls and didn’t like them much. 😅

This holds true in competitive games. It’s not like hacking, where the player is giving themselves an advantage that others can’t achieve within the confines of the game. If something is unintended, it’s up to the developer to fix it, not the player to pretend it’s not there. And sometimes the cheese can become meta and ruin the game, but once again, players shouldn’t have the responsibility of ignoring strategies that actually work.
