Samurai Warriors 5 will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch later this month, and ahead of its release Koei Tecmo has announced a special demo.
It will be made available on the Switch eShop on 20th July and allows players to experience two stages and try out multiple different characters. Your progress will also carry over to the full game when it arrives on 27th July.
Samurai Warriors 5 was officially revealed earlier this year for the Switch during Nintendo's Direct. This new entry will contain 27 playable characters all up - including new and old warriors. More characters will also be added to the game at a later date. New Musou actions have been included and there'll be two different special editions, too.

Will you be trying out Samurai Warriors 5 when it arrives on 27th July? Leave a comment down below.

I'm debating whether I should get into this or not. Age of Calamity really brought me into the hsck 'n slash genre, but other Musou games really failed to do that, including the first Hyrule Warriors. Thankfully, there's the demo to try out.
I will try the demo. I really hope this runs well on switch. If it does, I will get it.
Judging from Japan’s sales of this game for switch, I am guessing it does run fairly well on switch
I love these kind of demos where you can transfer progress to the actual game and I'm glad they are doing this more and more now. Future of demos should be like this from now on.
@Ghost_of_Hasashi there needs to be more demos in games in general
I'll try the demo but not gonna bite until next year when the legends or empires or whatever the call it comes out.
I have seen framerate tests on YouTube on this game. It seems most of the time it stays around 30 FPS. Mostly stable. Some slight dips when there are multiple enemies but this is a musou game so I guess that is kind of expected.
Has anyone tried the demo on switch by using the Japanese version. I would like to know how it runs in docked and handheld
This is one of the only good practices to come out of game companies in recent years and hopefully it becomes standard.
@ModdedInkling if it helps your decision, Age of Calamity is the least Musou-like spin-off out there. Expect mainline games to be further in the direction of OG Hyrule Warriors than AoC.
If the only one you liked was AoC, chances are you won’t like actual Musou games.
@ModdedInkling
I don't reckon it'll be too long before either another Zelda iteration or another Nintendo franchise gets the Warriors treatment.
I'm digging the cell shaded anime-esque aestethic, it looks gorgeous!
@ModdedInkling A lot of game companies started to tie their main series to Musou games which is a smart attempt to sell you something mediocre so they don't have to give you their own filler title while waiting for the main ones. Persona 5: Scrambles and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are two good examples, both games are tie to their main series in story and contents but in theory both are just mediocre Musou games which are made to fill you in until Persona 6 or Breath of the Skyward Sword 2 came out.
Nice to see the female wearing fishnet stocking, really fits with the time period the game is set.
I didn't knew the game was multiplatform. I'll try the demo.
Might be worth getting if it runs better than Age of Calamity.
@Mountain_Man look at framerate tests on YouTube from the Japanese version of the game on Switch.
I have seen it. It is stable most of the time. Runs at a almost smooth 30 FPS from what I have seen. Slight dips when enemies are too much on the screen but it’s a Musou game so kind of expected. But it definitely imo runs better than Aoc
@dew12333 which female character?
@anoyonmus Sorry I don't know there names but you get a cheeky little flash about the 1.05 mark. If you buy the game you get to see more!
