Didn't realise you guys still don't have Wii Party U on the eShop. Australia's had it up since launch. Bad news is that it's full price over here ($80!) Big rip off but yeah it's obviously for the Mario Kart 8 promotion.
Geez have some people been living in a cave? We knew about the GamePad's lack of features months ago. By this point I've gotten over it. Game will be amazing regardless. Also, a simple racing game is never going to score perfect 10s, just because it's not up everyone's alley.
puts tinfoil hat on Maybe Nintendo is secretly conspiring to abandon the Wii U without aggravating their fan base by paying Phillips to sue them and ban Wii U sales!
I could complain about advertising, but since I barely watch any TV shows with ads I wouldn't exactly notice Nintendo's efforts. Plus no game company ever really advertises their products in Australia. In fact, the only game ads I've seen on TV this year is for Yoshi's New Island (also popped up as a Youtube ad.) I don't really see TV ads as a big magical thing that will cause millions of people to buy a Wii U.
I just found it funny that we had 2 articles within an hour that both used the Pikachu image, except one was the happy Pikachu and one was the sad Pikachu! Perhaps NL is adopting a new picture system, where good news is depicted by a happy Pikachu and bad news is depicted by a sad Pikachu? There will certainly be a lot of sad Pikachu's when it comes to Wii U articles.
Brace yourselves, the figurines are coming to steal your wallets! I like that there's multiple uses for them, and that Nintendo has actually been working on improving the Wii U. At least the money they spent on NFC hasn't gone to waste.
I'm surprised that Nintendo doesn't expect Mario Kart or Smash Bros to push many units. Really, an extra 1 million than what they sold in 2013? It's gotta be higher than that.
What do people want anyway? Nintendo to announce at E3 that they're abandoning Wii U and making a new console to rival the PS4/XB1 in specs (and price) which will go through even longer game droughts? All the while shunning the few million people who supported Wii U. That will be an even bigger failure than the Wii U's situation now. There's nothing Nintendo can do but ride out the rest of the generation and starting fresh (perhaps a little earlier, say 2016.)
I agree with everything brought up. Lower priced digital only games (at least in Australia. $60 is not cool for a handheld game) with a proper account system, cross buy and all would be perfect. It's time for a HD handheld too, 240p doesn't cut it anymore. I would also add a second analog stick and much more power! N64 and possibly GameCube games should be downloadable from the eShop. Regarding the 3D, I don't mind if they keep it, but I'd like it to work better. And if they insist on a camera it needs a lot more than 0.3MP or it's a waste of money. Social media integration is overrated (isn't that what Miiverse is for?) Only Youtube sharing would be useful like in Mario Kart 8. The Web browser should be as good as the Wii U browser too. I'd like to keep the dual screen and clamshell design too.
I still think the earliest Nintendo would reveal it is next years E3 (if 3DS tanks this year) with a release in 2016.
Amazing promotion! Decisions, decisions... Mario & Sonic, W101, or finally replacing my boxed Nintendo Land with a digital copy? Own the others already (except Wii Party, but I don't want it.) Plus when you combine that with the Super Mario Kart promotion, I get $10 off MK8 and a free game!
I think people are still living in the past. We're never gonna see excitement along the lines of the Twilight Princess reveal at an E3 conference again. The press doesn't act like that any more. Most of the show is filled with useless dribble, awkward introductions and slow translators. And since Nintendo is not announcing a new console, why do they need a stage show?
I understand that Gamestop owns the EB Games brand in Australia too (though I don't think there's ever been an actual Gamestop in Australia) and there is definitely no issue with overcrowded store locations for me. Until last year the nearest EB Games was 1 hour away (now its 30 minutes away.) New release games are always full price, but there's always some good finds in the sales or used games. They carry a fair amount of gaming merch too. It's also the store Nintendo lets have all the exclusive pre-order bonuses. Staff appear to be nice and friendly too, although they never appear to be busy, so I don't imagine they hire too many people... I even heard one guy hating his Xbox One and wanting to sell it, so he can't be that evil.
I certainly don't need another Wii remote (I forget how many I've got now. 5? 6?) but damn I need that Yoshi remote! Would have preferred it if it wasn't white, but I understand that they don't want it to be too similar to the Luigi remote (which I have already.)
I don't really see what the big deal is with this bundle, it's just a Wii U that comes with Mario Kart, saving you from making one extra purchase. If it was like the WWHD bundle, then yes I would see the interest in it.
@3DSLUIGI Welcome to Australia, the land of overpriced everything. Unlike other regions, Nintendo never dropped the Wii U price here, so that $430 is what I paid in 2012, only with Nintendo Land instead.
@wario007 Now THAT'S a nice bundle. Has the MK8 GamePad protector finally been localised for a western release? Must buy!
lol, now people are spamming #Save Miiverse everywhere. /facepalm
Oh, and people are actually angry that they removed people's Yeah counters? It's finally stopped those stupid "thanks for 10 yeahs" posts.
I've been converting my earlier 3DS retail games into digital copies lately, so I'd be kinda annoyed if price cuts came to Australia just after I bought them!
Wait, people actually use the winter solstice as the date winter begins when it comes to these types of things? lol no they obviously mean December 1st.
Will be buying both versions, but it does suck that I have to wait so long for the Wii U version, since the 3DS version looks meh in comparison.
I haven't been this hyped for a game since Mario Kart Wii! With N64 Yoshi Valley now being 99% confirmed my love for this game's courses (N64 in particular) just grows even more. I do wonder what they're gonna do for future Mario Karts, since most of the retro courses have now been remade at some point. I guess re-remakes are an option.
All aboard the N64 Rainbow Road hype train! I'll be watching the youtube replay however since the new Nintendo Direct times absolutely suck. No, I'm not willingly getting up at 5am.
I'm getting super excited now! Looks absolutely amazing. Loving the selection of N64 courses so far. That lack of 5 player/having someone playing separately on the GamePad really sucks though. It seemed like a no brainer, especially when 3rd party titles like Sonic Racing did it.
Didn't really make much of a difference, and since I never got into SS, I would be very annoyed to see Nintendo remake it instead of Majora's Mask, which actually needs the remake. I don't really need HD Wii games at this point in time. And if you're wondering what Mario Kart Wii HD looks like, perhaps try Mario Kart 8?
Been playing this for the last few days and I still just can't get a grip on this game. The controls are just too slippery for me to handle when I'm so used to later entries in the series. The AI is also horribly cheap sometimes. I play as Yoshi and always have Koopa, DK Jr and Peach in 2nd, 3rd and 4th unless I knock one back. It's only through the Wii U's save states that I unlocked the 100cc Special Cup and it's so brutal to me!
Hoping Mario Kart 64 makes it sometime soon, as that is where I fell in love with Mario Kart, and remains my favourite version to this day!
Glad Mario and Luigi is coming next week, as that's the only one I want to buy since I have most of them on 3DS. Hopefully N64 gets reintroduced soon, with plenty of releases!
Ooh, so if I upgrade Super Mario Kart for $1.95 I can get $10.40 off Mario Kart 8? Awesome since I was always going to download it! And I get another $7 from the Premium Wii U promo too.
Nice updates, but unfortunately I don't really like Miiverse anymore. I only look at my activity feed every day to see Sakurai's posts and the comment section always makes me facepalm and hate the casual audience Nintendo attracts.
Was this the big maintenance that started the Nintendo Direct rumours? Could've sworn when I checked the eShop last night that it said there'd be 6 hours of maintenance on the 17th/18th.
@Brickbuild101 You mean meanwhile in North America, 2012 platinum reward says hello!
@CaPPa That would be impossible since Europe/Australia has no platinum rewards system. Not sure about Japan (but since when does anyone get any of their cool stuff?)
@Jakeman Yeah, when I remembered the double stars bonus I got excited again because I only need to buy Yoshi (guess that's the tipping point for me buying it) and 2 other games to make it back to 2000 stars. I've been wanting to convert the early 3DS carts I bought into digital copies for a while too so this is an incentive to actually do it.
Nice! A simultaneous Europe/Australia Club Nintendo release! Unfortunately for me, I've recently gone broke on stars after a certain Mario Hat, Hanafuda Cards and Luigi's Mansion diorama hit. And with the software drought, there's not much of a chance for me to hit 2000 stars before these inevitably disappear.
Not a bad week actually. Will be downloading Yoshi's New Island, and those discounts on Bit Trip and Dr Luigi are just what I've been waiting for to take the plunge! And they even managed to release 2 Wii U VC games, despite me not caring about them, which is something I guess. Was wishing a Nintendo Direct would reveal N64 games.
Man, that must suck having to purchase the game you've worked on for months. Should at least get a free copy!
In all seriousness, it's sad how badly Most Wanted U performed. I downloaded it even at the EA premium price tag and it really is a wonderful game. There are clearly many factors out of his control which caused this mess, but I don't see most of the fault lying with Nintendo, and now being an indie developer, he shouldn't be holding grudges. It's not like Nintendo is known for marketing their own games, let alone a 5 months late 3rd party port which the original publisher failed to market.
Once again I'm getting a bit jealous of the physical bonuses! Although if it's anything like Wind Waker HD's limited edition, Nintendo will decide for me by not offering it here. Oddly enough, I have the exact same Bullet Bill T-Shirt Nintendo is offering! EB Games sells lots of Nintendo gear here in Australia, and I recently scored one for $8 in an online sale.
