Seriously though, it would be cool to see Sonic in Mario Kart, as long as it doesn't turn into a half Sonic-half Mario roster. Having him in SSBB was cool, but not every Sonic character needs to appear. He'll certainly fit in a lot better than the Miis ever did!
Despite my all digital policy, I'll be grabbing both, because I can't pass up a limited edition box! Looking forward to playing it in a month, unlike everyone else waiting an extra 1-2 months.
This is the first Nintendo Direct to disappoint me in while. They should be at least 30 minutes long or it feels like a wasted opportunity. Still, looking forward to Sonic and NSLU and of course the main course at E3 is just a few weeks away!
I'm buying it again, mainly because the Wii version was too hard, so I shall be welcoming easy mode. 3D, lack of waggle and new levels are just a bonus.
Nintendo does always seem to manage pulling off some amazing amounts of hype with these broadcasts (just look at how amazing the last Direct was) so I'm fairly confident they won't disappoint this time. However, I'm not too sure what they will actually announce. There's not too many games awaiting release dates and I don't see too many new announcements incoming with E3 a month away. I guess they will just have to surprise me (again!)
Interesting, never seen the "buy a game and get another game discounted" type promotions on a Nintendo console before. Would like to see some more of this, though it does seem to further kick people like me who've bought the Wii VC versions of these games and having to pay an upgrade fee when newcomers can buy the cheaper version of SMW and then benefit from a discounted SMB2. Perhaps they could offer free upgrades when they do this type of promotion.
I'll be downloading Super Metroid just because it's 30c and the RE Demo just because it's free (even though I hated the 3DS demo.) Other than that, there's nothing to interest me. SMB2 I have on Wii VC, but I won't be upgrading it. Try SMB3 and you've got a deal Nintendo. Good to see some more retail reductions, hopefully first party downloads will be cheaper in the future. Still not happy with Wii U VC though. 2 regular priced games a week is pathetically slow and we need some high profile releases other than SMW and (debatedly) SMB2. As for Runner 2, release it in Australia and I might look into it.
The drip-feeding of 2 re-releases a week is what annoys the hell out of me. After waiting 6 years for titles to never arrive on Wii VC, am I expected to wait another 6 years in the hope these titles might get released? If there were 2 quality releases each week from the SNES/N64, it would be a much better situation than re-releasing NES titles seen recently on the 3DS and much less popular titles like Solomon's Key. Honestly, I'm glad to see other systems from the Wii VC haven't been announced as it means more SNES/N64 games can be released in a shorter space of time, without endless years of re-releasing the same garbagey titles that I've never heard of. As for GameCube titles, I'd love to see it happen, but IF it ever does, I'm not expecting it for a few years. In fact, I'd have preferred Nintendo to delay the VC further and launch it with a proper set of titles and proper support each week, rather than a situation even worse than the Wii.
If it wasn't for Mario and DK, I'd be getting nothing this week. Another week of appallingly slow re-releases I don't want for the Wii U VC, wake me up when some N64 games hit the service.
I've lost all interest in this title due to the lengthy delays and broken promises. The fact it still doesn't have a release date means I'm not holding my breath for it to arrive soon. They should at the very least give us a decent sale on the game.
Not interested in any of these I'm afraid. It's going to be a long while until they re-release any games I actually want (Super Mario World is the only one I've re-purchased), especially with only 2 releases a week. And even longer before a NEW VC game comes out.
Why do people need to argue about retail vs downloads? Good for you for still buying retail carts. But do you need to attack downloads because they don't suit you? I'm fairly certain Nintendo once said they were planning to implement an account system in the future. Do you really think they will abandon all their customers buying retail downloads just because their console broke? The Wii proved that Nintendo can transfer over your VC games to a new system and they even let you transfer them over to Wii U. As for the article, I'll be downloading DKCR. Though I may need to look at upgrading my 16GB SD Card soon. Think I've got about 50000 blocks left.
I bought the London tour, as I've been there before and it was cool to see it all again (especially the night scenes) The quality wasn't too bad (its not even that noticeable on the GamePad) although it was hard to hear the tour guide clearly. I doubt I will buy the others, perhaps the birds one but its only 5 min long? The London tour was nearly 10 minutes.
I hope this is the first Wii U game to introduce 6 player multiplayer by bundling a second GamePad with the game (or at least selling them at retail.) How amazing would that be? Even if you only had 3 players, each person could have their own screen! I don't think it's being rushed, I'm sure the 2 years between MK7 and MKU is plenty of time to make it good. I'm certainly excited to be playing more Mario Kart by the years end.
This had better work in Australia! I've got LM2, and am getting AC:NL and DKCR so the only problem I'll have is picking a freebie. (not too interested in the rest)
Rayman of course for me. Might also pick up Bit.Trip, have never seen that around (I didn't even know it got a PAL release!) Not sure what they're doing with the VC so I don't know if I'll be getting anything.
I thought people had gotten over the pricing in the 4 months this has been known for. It annoyed me at first but I got over it. I'm certainly not rebuying every VC game I bought, just the good ones that deserve it. I realised that Nintendo has to reprogram each game individually to work with Wii U so it was never going to be free. The only valid point I see is that newcomers can get the games cheaper than us, which shouldn't be the case. Then again, we were willing to pay for the games 6 years ago without these features, so it shouldn't really be expected to get these features now.
I just want Nintendo to finish what they started and release some more N64 games: Mario Party 1, Mario Party 3, DK64, Banjo Tooie, Banjo Kazooie to name a few. Then they can think about releasing GCN and GBA games.
@LDXD I'm sorry, does my opinion not fit with you so you have to resort to making childish statements degrading other people?
@evanescent_hero Sure, releasing a new Zelda before Majora's Mask would be fine except that I wanted to see a 3D Zelda. The 3DS would be awesome for it, as already seen by OOT3D. MM3D is probably years away now if they ever decide to do it.
Not too impressed by this. I'm pretty sad now that Majora's Mask 3D is practically impossible as I've been hoping for a remake for years. But it's not just that, I don't like 2D Zelda's so making an ALTTP sequel is the worst decision Nintendo could have made for me. Not too sure if I'll end up buying it or not. If it was an open world 3D Zelda I would be perfectly happy.
I would've loved to see Mario Party 10 as a deluxe version containing multiple boards and loads of minigames from each entry in the series with every character playable. Plus new boards and all that and some sort of online mode. Would've also been a great time to end the series on a high note. As it is, this one looks too similar to Mario Party 9 which lacked the feel of a Mario Party game, so it will likely disappoint me (but I will still collect it!) They've never been able to match the classic fun of the N64 titles, long live Mario Party 3! (maybe they can finally release it on Wii U VC?)
You forgot the bit where you can turn the Wii U off and still download games. (something that is greatly appreciated for large sized retail games) I'm hoping it doesn't take forever for the VC to rollout all of the Wii's titles. If Nintendo won't give me Majora's Mask 3D, then I want it on the GamePad! The launch day list doesnt look too promising though. And of course I'm looking forward to faster loading times!
I checked my account and can confirm this includes Australia. The problem is, only 3 eShop games have appeared on my CN account: Little Inferno, Tank Tank Tank and Trine 2. Where's the rest of my Wii U eShop downloads? Or ANY 3DS downloads?
Don't Need for Speed games usually release in November? If so it's probably that. I'm certainly excited for another Criterion game, I loved NFS:MWU! But my Wii U is being overrun by racing games, with Sonic Racing, Most Wanted, a new racer and Mario Kart all games I'll (hopefully) have by the end of the year.
@ToxieDogg I'm not from the UK so no that wouldn't have happened. Online deliveries take at least a week to arrive for me (and thats just from the other side of Australia)
I remember starting out with VC reviews after I got a Wii in 2007 and also followed WiiWare World when that came into existence (though not as much as VC Reviews.) I still remember that day the sites merged and thought it was all a big joke (seriously who picks April 1st for a major site makeover?) It was cool one year when you changed the site back to the old design for the day. I hardly remember what it was like now. It's weird to think I've been coming here for 6 years but that just shows how awesome you guys are! I obsessively check here multiple times a day.
Thankfully it's a 6 day weekend for me so I have the opportunity to tackle my 4 newest games: Need for Speed, Moster Hunter, Luigi's Mansion and Lego City. Phew I sure am busy with all of these!
eShop downloads for the win! They were up for me last night so I can play them over Easter instead of waiting over a week for delivery. Already downloaded LM2, but I'm a bit put off by the size of LCU, it will take forever to download!
I've already been experiencing winter this week in Australia as I now appear to be entering the 7 month winter period. From my perspective, everyone else has their seasons wrong as I couldn't possibly imagine summer in July! I haven't actually heard of PAX Australia, but like most events, it's based in Melbourne (or Sydney) and I won't be travelling to the other side of the country to go.
The Nintendo Network Premium is weird in Australia, the higher costs of games gets you 519 points for NSMBU, which is enough to get you a $7 code. So basically you buy a full RRP game and instantly get $7 back on it!
I decided for Wii U to go fully digital from day 1 (other than the Nintendo Land pack-in) as I much prefer the convenience of having games instantly accessible. Trying to carry all my games to friends' houses is impossible and I'm much too lazy to switch discs out all the time. The 3DS is another story. I've been having trouble letting go of physical games. Introducing downloadable retail titles over a year into the console's life wasn't a great move to me. Plus the last 2 3DS games I got were presents so it's kinda hard to avoid physical! I've decided to download 3DS games from here on though. Another bonus is that due to my timezone, eShop downloads go up 3 hours before release day, whereas if I bought a physical copy I'd be waiting a week for delivery.
Great review, would give it the same score myself. I've spent more time just roaming around Fairhaven than doing actual races! Love every part of the game really, free roam, racing, online. It did give me my first ever Wii U freeze though when pressing the Home button. (which is a bit glitchy when pressed anyway)
I'm another one who falls into the "put off by the demo" category. Hadn't played Monster Hunter before and don't really see what all the fuss is about.
