Capcom has shared brand new gameplay footage from the upcoming Monster Hunter Rise, giving us another look at the Great Sword in action.
The footage comes from a new Capcom TV livestream, and has been reshared to YouTube by friend of Nintendo Life, Arekkz Gaming. While we've already seen some Great Sword gameplay in the new title before, this new clip shows off a different area of the map and a new hunt – which should come in especially handy if you happen to main the Great Sword for the majority of your Monster Hunter game time.
Just in case it had somehow slipped your mind, Monster Hunter Rise is due to launch on 26th March 2021 on Switch. The game and the new amiibo planned to release alongside it are already available to pre-order at select stores.
Are you excited for Monster Hunter Rise? Is it on your 2021 gaming wishlist? Tell us below.

That was more dull than I anticipated, watching it in action actually tempered my excitement. Hm.
Yes! Can’t wait. Although I am pretty sure this will be a launch game for the Switch Pro. Reckon it will work wilrth current Switch but optimised for the Pro. This and BOW 2 would make perfect sense.
Cant wait for this. Defo a day one for me.
The wirebug looks like it's about to add a crap ton of mobility to combat and scaling all the different areas within the overworld
It looks like a blend of World with some of the mentality in design from the PSP days of the series
These graphics are definitely running on the current switch.
@TG16_IS_BAE Great Sword is the slowest weapon in the game keep that in mind lol.
I said it last time and I'll say it again. I really NEED to get working on the backlog before this come out.
This looks beautiful, can't wait!
@TG16_IS_BAE I mean... It's a Monster Hunter game. I wouldn't expect any substantial changes to the formula.
@Jokerwolf I wasn't commenting on speed, I was commenting on boredom. It's another huge, open world game with gigantic, EMPTY scenery.
@Wilforce The first few MH games I played were never that empty, as the video is showing. Probably due to hardware compromises, on the system of compromises, the Switch.
@TG16_IS_BAE I mean World had lots of clutter but in no means was it stuff that mattered to the gameplay itself. I get what you are saying though and it could be a result of making areas too large in general.
This is going to be amazing
Looks like a fun weapon that trades speed for power. Definitely one I'll experiment with - Rise will be my first major MonHun game - but I'll likely settle on a faster weapon.
So many gems coming to switch! Nice!
I'd like to see some gameplay of my choice weapons...show me the cool stuff with Insect Glaive, Heavy Bowgun, and my main, the good ol' Charge Blade. If they function the way they do in World, everything will be fine...be nice if they bring back Crouching Fire/Siege Mode for HBG though.
Anyway, nothing's going to change my mind about getting it anyway. I bought and played just about every MH game that came to the US and I'm not going to stop now.
Got my game and amiibo pre-ordered 😎 While greatsword is my go-to, I feel like this game deserves special treatment. Perhaps I'll finally learn Hunting Horn!
....Wished they would show us some more new stuff already...new map, new monster...
Like...show us that new spider monster that we saw 2 seconds of in the trailers. lol
So for the longest time, I've been hating Capcom for their lack of effort, giving us old over priced ports of last gen games, I always wondered what happened to the support they gave the 3DS.
But it seems they finally came through and are (hopefully) about to live up to expectations with this game.
I'm quite hyped for this.
@Razer I agree mate. Finally a Switch exclusive, non-3DS title. I'm excited about the new direction it is taking.
This looks awesome. It seems fluid and I like the almost laid-back nature of the fight. Just you and this big bird. Oh, and your dogs. And that huge sword, too. Great sound effects.
They really need to show a new map soon..
I assume this runs on current Switch. Then we get AI 4k upscaling on The NEW Switch.
@Tyranexx and this case then I recommend the gunlance it slow but it has amazing defensive capabilities and with the new wire bug is should give it the mobility it needs.
Hmmm its going to be hard playing this for me after World I think. World being probably my favourite game of the XboxOne/PS4 gen. The environment feels so bland and empty. I'm sure the gameplay will be solid but its visually so washed out and dull. I'll probably still get it, become hopelessly addicted again and rinse it anyway.
I'm really trying not to watch much more footage so that I can go in as blind as possible in the age of 2020+
I jumped in Super Mario Odyssey late, and it was a special experience thanks to going in mostly blind other than the first couple areas. Discovering each new Kingdom as I played reminded me why playing as a kid felt so magical! These days we voluntarily spoil everything beforehand with let's plays, gameplay videos and leaks.
I don't want to get even an idea of what the other maps in MHRise will be like, or the monsters; I just want to go in totally surprised by everything else the game has to offer!
@TG16_IS_BAE Did you see last weeks gameplay with GS? that one is waaay better than this one
@Shiro28 I'll have to check it out, thanks for the tip
@edgedino I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the heads up!
You can tell this was built from the ground up for Switch. Looks beautiful.
@TG16_IS_BAE You’re joking, right? You clearly haven’t played many games in this series if you think big empty spaces aren’t common in it, or if you think this game is more empty than any of the previous ones, World being like the only exception.
@Ulysses I totally hear you! But probably don’t click on any more articles about this game if you want to go into it blind lol.
@BAN The one I played on 3DS was teeming with creatures, maybe I got spoiled on that.
Game looks so insanely good.
Not only is the great sword mobility with the wirebug even better than in World, I love how the map is designed with larger, arena based areas again. World was too cluttered in a lot of maps.
Also got higher quality footage of the character customization

@BAN A very good point! I saw some of the video on Twitter, and thankfully it was more TGS content, but definitely moving forward I'll have to avoid these articles entirely ;_;
@TG16_IS_BAE No problem fellow hunter, let me know if that changed your mind
@TG16_IS_BAE Weird, I felt like this series saw some of its emptiest spaces on the 3DS. Maybe not in terms of monsters specifically, but in terms of everything else that would make a game visually interesting to run around in.
@BAN Yeah, I’m talking about things to fight. This new game looks like a large, empty thing with sparse battles, not something I’m looking for.
@TG16_IS_BAE I mean, this is Capcom showing us a very specific/limited slice of their unreleased game so we can get a general idea of the gameplay, so I don't think we can really assess the whole game based on this. I'll reserve judgment until the thing comes out.
@TG16_IS_BAE
Always so negative.
