Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Raptor78

@JaxonH The wiiU has actually been my favourite console... Before that it had been the Dreamcast to be honest but once again that had some amazing exclusive titles (at the time) before Sega threw in the towel. Despite Nintendo announcing this will be their final game I am in no hurry to upgrade. I've got a solid library of games and it suits my needs. I was really looking forward to Switch reveal but over the last week I've considered everything and mabey because I'm getting old now and had consoles since my old Grandstand and pretty much kept up with the console race I'm not ready to move on yet.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Raptor78

It was 18 months after wiiU launch that the Wii servers went down and that was due to some mobile company buying them. It wasn't just Wii and DS affected. By that time Nintendo had stopped pushing system updates out and people who were still wanting to play Mario Kart and Smash Bros. online were able to softmod their systems easy enough to continue to play on alternative servers #cough# or so I've heard 😜

Re: 1-2-Switch Looks Set To Include At Least 20 Minigames

Raptor78

@Dangerous25 Oh I don't doubt that this would be better because it would have that bit of Nintendo magic about it. I just don't think it is a full price retail game. If it was a really cheap retail title or even cheaper eshop title people would buy it out of curiosity. Full price I think it would be a tough sell.

Re: Reggie on How the Switch Will Maintain Third Party Support

Raptor78

@dimi This is the problem I see. I think the tech is great, I understand it's easy to port to but without a decent install base third parties will do the bare minimum to support the system. If Nintendo shave a bit off the starting price, even selling at a loss to start with if necessary, then they will get a decent user base and third parties will support it fully.

Re: Reggie on How the Switch Will Maintain Third Party Support

Raptor78

It felt like to me at least, the wiiU had a much bigger vocal third party support at launch. Yeah mostly ports, but at the start of wiiU's life that were good ports. I know third parties have been praising the Switch but it does look and feel like a we will wait and see. Possibly just doing a bare minimum to get something out on the system without having to invest too much into it. I was expecting on the day of the official switch reveal a big show of support from 3rd party with a massive line up and to be honest I think Nintendo did too. WiiU get third parties complained that they couldn't compete in sales with the first party games so I think Nintendo have such a small amount and in most cases "remastered" wiiU ports to give third party a chance. So come on Ubi, EA and Activision pull your weight and make the switch a must buy.

Re: Talking Point: Considering the Paid Online Service for the Nintendo Switch

Raptor78

A paid service is OK as long as you get some benefit from it. So far the communication app you use on your phone and the one game monthly rental doesn't grab me. Online multiplayer would be OK if there wasn't alternatives currently on the wiiU. Mabey if they provide some decent F2P games that require online like mabey get Bandai to remaster their Tank, tank tank!!! And the Lost Reavers titles to switch and get some other F2P games like World of Tanks then you can see in the short term some reason to pay online at least until we get a decent selection of online must haves.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

@psycho_punch Nintendo used to have a crapload of official flash games you could access via the Nintendo club around the time of the GBA and Pre-Wii so you could demo their games but through a PC using its browser. Games like Kirby, yoshi's island, advanced wars etc. But I didn't see that as third party even though I was using a PC to play them. I also know what you mean too, I suppose to me it was a case of thinking if the mobile games replaced the experience of the console games then I would have thought Nintendo had thrown the towel in whereas I saw the mobile thing (so far) as them trying to support their games on mobile instead. Who knows as time goes on if they start knocking out their console games on mobile fully then I would concede that all hope is gone.
To be honest we have yet to see what Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing will be like on a mobile. If it supports the game or just acts as a gateway into the console experience then I'm happy with that. Anything more and it makes you wonder why you need your handheld anymore.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

I'm not sure about Nintendo being the next Sega. Don't get me wrong I had my doubts sometimes with the wiiu. BUT... When they released the NES mini, I thought of how they would probably survive without selling their soul to Microsoft/Sony. Then would release dedicated hardware to games. They could easily release a Mario kart box, have its own dedicated shop for dlc within the game and charge ridiculous prices for additional controllers. This could apply to any of their major IPs. People wonder if a game is strong enough to sell a system... What if that game was the system.
Yeah there was a time I worried for Nintendo turning into a third party game developer especially when they started looking at mobile phone games, but now I think they would take things in another direction.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

@arnoldlayne83 I hope they do a 3DS on the system, I've been stung by that before... Although I did appreciate the (free) ambassador games. Lol.
To be honest, if the launch window games had blown me away I would have probably paid the RRP on the system even though it was about £30 - £80 more than I wanted to pay. I'm thinking mabey pick one up this Christmas.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

@nhSnork I also think Nintendo are fighters and will fight tooth and nail to not become a third party games company like Sega. I also think their 1st party games will thrive on whatever system they make, look at Mario Kart 8 on the wiiu, its attachment rate was ridiculous almost every owner bought that game and even non wiiu owners were wondering if they should buy it for that game alone.
Nintendo may lose 3rd parties again, the switch realistically won't shift as many consoles as the Wii but hopefully more than the wiiu but in all honesty I'm not worried for Nintendo as a company. Not yet anyway.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

@JaxonH The Zelda title is indeed impressive, but for people who supported Nintendo with the wiiU it doesn't justify the upgrade. Nintendo hasn't lost my sale, I like the tech in the switch. But presently I could easily hold off at least a year and instead upgrade my launch 3DS to a New3DS which I had been putting off for the switch reveal. I can still enjoy my wiiu for a bit longer and even play the latest Zelda... As well as the other wiiu Zelda games... And even the Wii Zelda games until the switch becomes more appealing.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

@JaxonH The wiiU may not have had those titles within the first nine months but the thing is they have them now and at the launch of the wiiu owners could still play the previous generations versions of those games thanks to the 100% backwards comparability of the system. I know I will happily be playing my breath of wild, my Mario kart 8 , Splatoon and many more of those games on my wiiu while Switch owners are twiddling their thumbs waiting for the deluxe versions of those games to come out on their systems.

Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

Raptor78

I do think, in the UK at least, if the price had been more competative with Microsoft and Sony's current consoles then it would have been better received. But when you think of the Wii, wiiU and 3DS. Each of those systems had been 100% backward compatible with the previous systems so no matter how many titles had been availabile within the launch window, you had a whole generation of games to fill in the waiting time. The switch (I understand the different architecture) doesn't have this luxury and some people may be willing to wait a year or so till the library fills up, third parties may not stick around though. Lower the price, increase the install base through impulse buys and that would give the third parties more reason to hang in there otherwise they will just move onto what Sony and Microsoft decide to pull out in the next few years.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Briefly Addresses Topic Of Carrying Over Online Purchases To Switch

Raptor78

Indie guys have been doing some decent cross platform deals with the 3DS and wiiU so I expect they will probably do something like that off their own back. VC games however I think Nintendo will stick some kind of upgrade price like they did with the Wii to wiiU VC. Which is such a shame because there is only so many times you want to pay out for titles you already own. I didn't mind buying the GBA VC games that I had on my 3DS for my wiiU because they had given me them as an Ambassador reward but buying for Wii, upgrading to the wiiU AND then having to upgrade again to the Switch seems too much (unless they double the discount)

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass

Raptor78

I love StreetPass, I've always purchased the new games on there day one and try to score as many hits whenever I can. I hope with the 3DS having still a long life ahead of it StreetPass will continue to stay strong. Mabey as a compromise they could release a mobile app.

Re: Nintendo Introduces 1-2-Switch, A Party Game Which Asks You To Ignore The Screen

Raptor78

@Anti-Matter If your curious about what its like playing a game like this check out the Bumpies Party videos. Its weird the first time you start playing video games with using a visual interface but it can work really well. I imagine the similarities between that game and this and Nintendo quality would work really well. You listen for audio ques, feel for vibrations and it uses motion control and even the camera to make them work as games. Really fun at parties just like the old Warioware games.
I don't think many people will go out and buy this title, but mabey if they release it as a budget eshop title like Warioware Snapped on the DSi it could do OK.

Re: Nintendo Introduces 1-2-Switch, A Party Game Which Asks You To Ignore The Screen

Raptor78

I've had a lot of fun playing "Bumpies Party" a game that's already been out for 3 years on the wiiU. I really don't see anything fresh here from Nintendo. In fact bumpy manages to cover over twenty something games for up to eight players. 1,2,3 switch looks more like a demo compared to that game.

...Nintendo land deserves all the love it gets, as shallow as the games are they are really fun and there are some great 5 player local games in there.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Cost £279.99 In The UK

Raptor78

@Hikingguy I could understand the storage issue if they hadn't had those problems with the wiiU. At the end of the day I had a spare external hard drive kicking around but I pretty much burned through 32gig in no time. Nintendo seemed to acknowledge the storage issue by discontinuing the white wiiU and obviously they weren't going to throw money away by releasing a larger storage wiiU... But the Switch is a new console... 32 gig is pretty much full on my 3DS, I'm just surprised that they didn't even start from 64gig to at least be twice that of the wiiU.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Cost £279.99 In The UK

Raptor78

I think Nintendo should have gone low even if it meant that they would have sold at a loss to start with because if they dont shift enough in those early days, third party support will start to disapear no matter how easy it would be to port to etc. Look at Warner Bros and Ubisoft with the wiiU. They were the ones who really tried to give it some love in those early days but when it wasnt selling as many systems even they threw the towel in. I love my wiiU and despite having other current gen and last gen systems in the house it is my go to consoe. If it had better third party I wouldn't even have to touch any other system. I digress, If Nintendo had pushed a low £200 basic and a £250 premium package then they would have flown off the shelves and given third parties a large potential customer base. Nintendo would have taken a short term hit but with long term gain and then throw in a reasonable subscription package they could have made up for any shortfall.

Re: Here's Your First Look At The Nintendo Switch User Interface

Raptor78

I would be surprised if miiverse was removed because although it isnt a massively used thing it does make a great thing if specific games like Splatoon especially when Splafests were on and also Xenoblade when you are playing on the multiplayer servers so you get updates ingame about group objectives. I wonder if the browser, wiiu and 3DS service will remain the same and Switch games may have it within the games themselves to allow developers more creativity with it. Eg, Splatfest posts are viewed and created in game in a unique way but could also be viewed as standard posts on browser version of miiverse like they do now.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Raptor78

@Anti-Matter I have lots of games on disc and cart. And you can buy digital codes online cheaper than the price on eShop and you still get your gold coins for the original value. If your wanting a library of JRpgs and suchlike retailers seem to sell them as a premium or you have to wait ages for them to arrive. I love my KoiTecmo and Atlus games and the eShop is a great and more often cheaper way to do it. Even if you have to buy your digital codes off of trusted online retailers rather than Nintendo themselves. Even physical shops like game sell digital codes cheaper than their physical games and that includes second hand (which is how it should be). Some games I went digital out of simple convenience but the retail copies didn't go to waste as me and my daughter both have a wiiU and the whole household has some kind of 3DS.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Raptor78

@MarcelRguez I don't want you to feel like I'm attacking you in any way. I kind of went digital because stores started letting me down and now I wouldn't look back having a lot of my collection on hard drives and SD cards. I understand it isn't an issue for lots of users like yourself. But it is an issue for others like myself.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Raptor78

@MarcelRguez Digital sales and cross purchasing make it better to get through eShop first hand. That and the humble bundle codes and the fact you can go online and buy cheap digital codes to purchase games on eShop pretty much make digital cheaper than getting all but the most popular games from online retailers.

Re: Video: Ladies And Gentlemen, We Might Have Found The Worst Game On Wii U

Raptor78

@Cypronia Well I want to thank you for sticking to your word. I was one of the many people who bought Cube Life before your offer of a free game. And you did it, just like you made the cube life update like you said you would. With so many developers out there not bothering to fix and update their games or just pulling out of development when things are looking tough it would have been easy for you to "forget" the promises you made and you didn't. Thank you. I know the game is bad but I also know it's a parody game. If this game had been a free flash game on the net or an android game people would have got the joke and loved it, just because it's on the eShop everyone is like, "where is Nintendo's quality control"

Re: Video: Ladies And Gentlemen, We Might Have Found The Worst Game On Wii U

Raptor78

As a free game I don't see what the problem is. After all when Cube Life came out and did so well in the charts he offered to give us all who purchased it a free game. He didn't have to do that, after all this was offered to people AFTER they had bought the game so it wasn't like it had been an incentive to purchase Cube Life.
Is it a good game, not really. Would I have bought it, probably not. But as I see it, it is a case of a man fulfilling his word to people who invested money in his games to start with and as we have seen since the NX has been announced, a lot of people have started backing out on their commitment to the wiiU. For this reason I applaud the developer for keeping his word when to most companies their word is next to worthless.

Re: The Next Penelope Cancelled On Wii U, But Nintendo Switch Version Could Happen

Raptor78

@spizzamarozzi I completely agree, I was so excited to hear about the NX before it was announced as the switch and then because I am a wiiU owner I really feel I'm being screwed over. First because I pretty much already own the games that are going to be ported over to the switch and secondly because of all the games that were currently in development for the wiiU being "switched" over to the new console. The more news I hear the more I hate the new console.

Re: Review: Ice Station Z (3DS eShop)

Raptor78

@Moon ahhh! Your one of the many Negans online are you. Lol. Usually that would kill my online experience, but with this game it kind of adds to the zombie apocalypse. I wait for the ...was killed by a player on the message screen and then I load up on guns and keep looking over my shoulder.

Re: Review: Ice Station Z (3DS eShop)

Raptor78

I bought it and thought with my initial play that it seemed dull and uninteresting, however when you get into one of the many in fact almost always full multiplayer servers it really changes the game. The almost non existent presence of food and water mean that this game with other players does become a kill or be killed PvP experience. Finding groups that you can trust online is hard but also part of the fun. You are lucky if you manage to form a small team out there and secure a base against teams of Negan type players who lay bear traps around vital supplies and position snipers around just to give you a bit of hope and then smash it out of you. This game through its lack of goals and quests seems purely driven by its online community where you end up making your own personal goals instead. As glitchy as it is and taking its low price into account I would recommend this to anybody and give it a 7 out of 10.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

Raptor78

I love the second screen aspect of the DS and 3DS and was excited that the wiiU had brought it to the home console experience. I for one love my wiiU and the more that is coming out about the switch the less it interests me. I already use a tablet for gaming that I can connect to my pair of Bluetooth analog controllers which I can connect to my TV when I'm at home and take it with me and play on the go. Sure there is alttlr excitement left but it seems that the experience that they are offering can already be had to quite a substantial degree.

Re: BBC iPlayer App to End Service on Wii U in Early 2017

Raptor78

I dont know what they did differently on the WiiU version as opposed to the ones on my smart TVs and my digital box, but sometimes they can be glitch but the wiiU has always run quickly and without issue, it's a sad day for those who prefer to use it over the other versions

Re: Microsoft Blocks NESBox Emulator On Xbox One

Raptor78

its such a shame because my experience with Nesbox had been great, unlike a lot of emulators out there Nesbox had a supporting app called the Nesbox Console for making retro style games and threre are some wonderful homebrew retro games out there. Yes I understand that it would have been used to play roms and such but that is down to the person downloading it and misusing it. It is very easy to run emulators on pretty much anything these days, the real issue is the availability of the roms that companies should deal with. If Rare can clamp down on roms going back to their early Ultimate days then surely it should be a piece of cake for Nintendo to do the same.

Re: Poll: How Much Do Early Access and Free Downloads Affect Your Purchasing Choices?

Raptor78

I really enjoy early access trials because it not only gives you a chance to try something out before it comes out, it also gives developers a chance to tweek and listen to feedback about it. That's why I really enjoyed the Nindies early access demos on the wiiu last year. I and other people made comments about the games we played and developers responded to our comments and hopefully that affected the final program. Runbow was a great example of this. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy demos of games but its good to know that your feedback can make a game better. I remember the good old days when you sent a company like Team 17 a blank floppy disk and a SAE and you got a free rough copy of one of their games in return for your honest feedback. Now its even easier with small companies offering people the chance to sign up for early access downloads on the internet and I hope Nintendo do more of this especially with their online multiplayer games like Splatoon and Blast Ball.

Re: Nintendo NX Has A Core Idea Which Doesn't Just "Follow Advancements In Technology", Claims Miyamoto

Raptor78

I don't know why but I just can't shake the feeling that NX is going to be some kind of gaming client like steam that could be not only put on its own dedicated hardware but could also but put onto other devices too using a unified account system. This would mean Nintendo could throw in hardware revisions whenever they need to and your library will be able to carry over. If it is similar to the windows 10 thing this would allow for some games to work on a mobile, PC and a console or at least some part of the game.

Re: Rumour: Details Emerge on Disney Infinity's Canned Future Plans and Cancellation

Raptor78

I have to say I took the plunge with 3.0 although my son had the first 2 on his Xbox, and I really enjoyed it. However it is just a great big toy box really and can be quite shallow. Once I had the figures I really wanted (and the ToyBox Takeover add-on) I really lost interest. I still play it, but don't feel I need to buy anymore stuff, which if other people feel that way is like death to a Toys to Life game like this.

Re: Wii U "Disappointing To Everybody" But We're Excited About Nintendo NX, Says GameStop CEO

Raptor78

I've been very fortunate to have grown up along side every generation of console and had the opportunity to play most of them and I have to honestly say that along side the Dreamcast, the wiiU is one of my favourite consoles of all time. It may have disappointed with its sales and such like, but it is far from a dissapointment to me. I only hope that I can transfer my digital library to its successor and that people who didn't get the chance to play wiiu this gen, get the chance to play the gamers on Nintendos next console.
